bart now reporting a major delay system wide, we are still getting more detail on that. the latest i can tell it's possibly due reopening and first service through that transbay tube. we're getting more issues on that. a build just starting for the tri-valley. breaking news now, shattered glass and shell casings, a san francisco bus stop the scene of an overnight shooting in the city that sent two people to the hospital. >> that was one of just two overnight shootings in san francisco. it happened at the bus stop on the corner of 24th and mission streets. hours earlier someone was shot near the corner of fulsome and cesar chavez. >> "today in the bay" stephanie chuang live in san francisco this morning. do we know if there is a connection between the two shootings? >> reporter: nothing solid. police are working on that. we do know they were close in time and place. a few blocks and three hours apart from one another. the most recent run happened around midnight, right by the 24th street bart station, police

say they're looking for two people responsible for shooting two men waiting at a bus stop on that corner. investigators say the intended target was a man in his 20s, shot in his groin area, while an older man in his 50s shot in the chest was likely shot by accident. san francisco police canvassed the area marking the evidence and examining two cars that were also struck by bullets. what is critical here in the investigation is the security camera footage. there are at least three cameras in the area that belong to muni, bart, as well as the city and investigators are hoping they will show what unfolded and who is behind that shooting. the first shooting had happened just around 9:00 last night, a few blocks away in front of a home. that victim was sent to san francisco general hospital. the good news in awful this is all three victims in both shootings are expected to survive. live in our san francisco newsroom, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." now to a developing story n just a few hours the coast guard

will head back out to look for wouter van lier. he has not been seen in more than 24 hours. >> investigators say that he was camping with his wife on angel island near tiburon and then disappeared. chuck coppola live in tiburon. >> reporter: not exactly dressed for the elements, boxers and a t-shirt. the missing man, wouter van lier is the founder of can deed consultancy in san francisco. he is 42 years old, he is 6 feet tall, weighs 190 pounds, has brown hair and blue eyes. he, his wife and two friends were camping, reportedly on a leased boat docked on angel island. he was last seen headed toward a restroom on the docks around 1:00 a.m. sunday morning. >> he was last seen at about 1:00 in the morning on his boat where he was spending the night with his wife and two friends. did he a limited underwater search with his boat a parked at

the dock and no trace of him so far. >> reporter: search dogs were brought in and will resume searching this morning along with search teams from marin, couldn't costa and san mateo counties as well as the coast guard. reporting live in tiburon, i'm chuck coppola, "today in the bay." it is 5:04. it will likely be a rough start to the school year for students at paens la skoochlt their counsellor was killed in a weekend boating accident. michael harris just started a new job at menlo school as a counselor. he was with his girlfriend and three other people when their small boat was hit by another boat on the water near catalina island sunday. their father, peter harris, is well known in the bay area, he is a former 49ers ceo and was a fixture at member low school. michael harris' brother david said michael wanted to give back to the community. >> i think he understood that his calling was in helping people who he could identify with growing into stronger leaders and stronger people. >> michael and both of his

brothers attended menlo school. three south bay correctional deputies charged with the death of an inmate are going to face a judge for the first time later today. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us in the studio. kris, any chance we will hear from them today? >> reporter: today is the day that they would have the first chance to say how they plead to the charges against them. they include murder, conspiracy and assault under the color of law enforcement. now, usually lawyers and judges do most of the talking at an arraignment, but we also get our first look at the charging documents which often include some of the details of the alleged crime. the three correctional deputies, matthew farris, jereh lubrin and rafael rodriguez have been behind bars since their arrest on thursday. they are accused of beating a 31-year-old inmate to death in his cell on the sixth floor of the main santa clara county jail. michael tyree had already served his sentence and was in protective custody there while waiting for a spot to open up in a mental health facility. now, while sheriff laurie smith

professed sorrow, disappointment and disgust one of the correctional deputies on the right-hand side of your screen, rafael rodriguez, professed his innocence from behind bars. he spoke with a mercury news reporter from the santa rita jail in dublin saying he never touched michael tyree and that he was only in tyree's cell for saerch. now, a day after the arrest people rallied outside the jail where tyree died and where the three deputies worked to demand that the district attorney prosecute the trio to the fullest extent of the law. today at the arraignment is also the time when the judge could set up terms of release. the three men have been behind bars since their arrest. outside the santa clara county where they worked for their own protection. we have filed paperwork to have cameras inside that courtroom for that hearing. we will learn later today whether that will be allowed. sam and laura. >> thank you very much. a bay area woman is reportedly set to receive almost a half million dollars in a wrongful arrest lawsuit. service police pulled her over at gunpoint back in 2009 when a

license plate reader misidentified her car. they treated her as a high risk felony suspect. the city examiner is suing -- excuse me, the examiner cite city documents indicating a $495,000 settlement still in the works in that case. the woman who ditched police, jumped off the bay bridge then hitched a ride home is now under arrest. erlynn sanchez-edwards was arrested in oakland. police say she crashed a stolen car on the bridge last month. officers say she tried to get away by jumping off the bridge, sanchez-edwards then swam to shore, went back to the bridge and apparently hitched a ride home. police believe she was i intoxicated at the time. she is facing several charges. a look at your weather. we kind of know what's in store, it's going to be sweltering. >> another hot day across the bay. as you head out the door now it is comfortable, in the lower 60s

the south bay. a heat advisory is in effect. that will be effective from 11:00 until 7:00 this afternoon and during the hottest times of the day you want to make sure you drink lots of water. heat-related illnesses will be possible. you want to drink plenty of fluids and try to take air conditioned breaks if you can, especially if you work outside. not much of a wind today to help us out, either, and it is going to be blowing offshore for most of the day and then later on this evening it will allow us to cool down once again as it turns on shore. this hot weather lasts through the rest of the week but then some changes this weekend. we will see the on-shore flow return, a sea breeze, cooling temperatures and clouds, but unfortunately the humidity may be going up. we see the temperatures dropping, but not by much. especially after having a week with highs over 100 degrees, 98 degrees really isn't that much cooler especially in the tri-valley, 93 degrees on sunday.

in san francisco comes back down into the mid 70s by the end of the weekend. now mike is tracking some commute problems. we had some earlier delays through the dublin interchange but now it seems things are moving smoother near. 580 westbound. as we look at your map there is a slower drive for pleasanton down in toward livermore. we're spreading things out now towards 680. there may have been a crew or something going on, but everything seems to be sort tgself out, back to a typical tuesday build which should start kick nothing over at the bay bridge in the next few minutes. so far nothing unusual there. as we look at the rest of the area toward 880 and the coliseum a smooth drive, but at the coliseum station folks might be waiting a little extra for the bart. quick look at fremont, we will show you that volume of traffic starting to ease up a tad bit r bit southbound. no time to wait no time to spare. bay area firefighters ditch their broken down rig when they

near bond err licks drive and tuggle avenue. it's not too mar from mini eye school. the gunman took off. the gunman still has not been find. police are trying to figure out what led to a late night stabbing near the santa cruz beach boardwalk. two people were stabbed but we're told both should be okay. the stabbing happened on beach street yesterday. police closed off part of the boardwalk for the investigation. all this happened during one of the busiest days of the year at the boardwalk. labor day. so far no one has been arrested. now to a tense ending for the labor day holiday. wouter van lier vanished more than 24 hours ago. investigators say he was camping with his wife on angel island when he just disappeared. bay area from santa cruz. that fire started just after 10:00 last night off highway 17 right near summit road. the northbound lanes were temporarily shut down so fire trucks could get to awful those flames. after an hour crews managed to put it out. that fire burned half an acre. traffic is slowly smoothly. three south bay correctional deputies accused in the death of a mentally ill inmate will hear the charges against them today. >> a lot of attention and the reactions and ex weres. have cameras in there so you can see them for yourself in their first court appearance. we will know later today whether the cameras will be allowed. either way, we will be there. laura. >> and also today the santa clara county bort of supervisors will hold a special meeting to discuss the legal ramification of michael tyree's death. that leegt will take place behind closed doors. it is likely the county will face some kind of lawsuit in connection with the inmate's death. the fate of two teens accused of murdering a paramedic in the oakland hills goes to a jury later today. jurors are expected to begin deliberations in the trial. both are accused of killing quinn boyer near his father's home more than two years ago. pros durts say it was part of a crime spree by a group of teens that included carjackings, robbery and two shootings. at 5:36 we move on to decision 2016. it's coming to san francisco today. republican presidential candidate ben carson will speak at the commonwealth club.

cars season a retired neurosurgeon who spent his year at johns hopkins hospital gaining notoriety for successfully separating conjoined twins joined at the head. cars season currently second in the republican party polls though he trails donald trump by double digits. he will speak today at noon. you might say it's a political issue here, san francisco city leaders taking step to ease the housing cries. mayor ed lee is going to announce a flu affordable housing initiative later this morning. skyrocketing rents and new construction in places like the mission are forcing so many families out of the city. housing advocates have made many calls for the city to increase the amount of affordable housing options for low and middle income families. the end of burning man means the beginning of longer lines at the car wash. there are pretty deucy cars here. people returning from the desert party in cars covered in dirt and mud and vis inside and out.

orange, that's where the heat advisories are. this is where we're headed today. 100 guess degs in los gatos, burlingame 97, inner richmond and san francisco 92, 98 napa, brentwood 104 and livermore 103 degrees today. unfortunately we are not going to shake this heat anytime soon. looks like it continues through at least the workweek. i will show you the weekend forecast, it's coming newspaper a few minutes. let's check in with mike for that morning commute. it's tuesday and the day after a holiday for many folks, they're getting back to work in full force at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights are on. look at your map, not anything major coming offer of the maze or down the east shore freeway but a good volume of traffic over that bay bridge. some of that volume may be addsed because of delays reported for the bart system right now, still waiting on that all clear as they run those first trains underneath the bay through the transbay tube and along the entire stretch where they did that weekend work. they're running slower, that's the reason for system wide

delays. looking at a smooth drive including past oakland and the coliseum. we do have a disabled vehicle west 580, watch for that distraction between castro valley. i want to take you back and show you the oakland camera. just a couple of minutes ago i did see a train come through the area, there was one scheduled for 5:25. i saw it at 5:5:35. 5:40. we will get a better idea today if san francisco streets are becoming safer for cyclists and pedestrians. a little more than a year ago police and the mta launched a safe street pilot program. it's part of the city's vision zero plan to end all deadly traffic accidents. safe streets is trying to improve public safety mainly through education. today program leaders will update the chamber of commerce on that how that progress is coming along. >> been doing that piecemeal. coming up next, one of the
