suddenly thick black flames covered one of the boeing 777 engines. the takeoff was aborted and emergency slides for evacuation were deployed. >> reporter: the british airways jet was preparing to take off on a flight to london when it caught fire. video shows huge clouds of black smoke billowing. takeoff was aborted. and the emergency slides deployed. and all the passengers and crew on board made it off safely and were bussed to the terminal. >> we received word of 13 passengers who experienced minor injuries from the evacuation were transported to local hospitals. >> reporter: one runway was shut down, but operations continued at the other three. the deputy chief of the fire department said the fire didn't appear to reach the cabin. and while the exact cause has not been determined, all signs point to a possible engine failure.
