schools to cut classes short. >> we'll have multiple reports on the temperatures. kris sanchez in saratoga, where the high temperatures are proving too much for a school district. and then kari hall. >> yeah, it will be hot in most spots just like yesterday, sizzling temperatures and unbearable heat. we do have a heat advisory for all of the bay area. temperatures from 90s to 106. heat-related temperatures will be possible. if you feel light-headed or stop sweating, or you don't feel right, drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. the north bay is 63 degrees. it's cool. 63 degrees in the east bay. look at these 90s and 100 degrees all across the bay. it continues for the next few

days. >> we'll be watching this closely, thank you. as we mentioned before, as we take a live view out us of san jose, there's a south bay school district not taking any chances. many classrooms don't have air conditioning that means the kid, going to get out before the triple digit temperatures set in. >> "today in the bay" kris sanchez is there. >> reporter: sam, i know you have snow days, and you have families laura, where there are foggy days. there it is up in the marquee, i will flash by in just a moment. heat advisory means two minimum days here at the campbell union school district. that means 8,000 south bay kids will get out of school early. not only today, also tomorrow, but possibly on friday as well. that means they'll get out at 11:30 in this district. since the heat cranked up,

teachers were reporting to administration that students were reporting feeling dizzy and sick to their stomachs. one of the district's superintendents told us more than half of the students have no air conditioning so there's no safe way to keep the kids cool. while some parents have criticized the decision, they say they use the opportunity to keep kids safe in the heat. the kids themselves, they're not complaining. well, as school, the football team is preparing for their big home opener, of course, every minute matters when we're talking about high school football. their practice is not cancelled. though, their coaches are moving it indoors in the gym to get them out of the blazing outdoor sun. again, the early release is for campbell union high school district. though, the advice is the same no matter where your kids go to school all around the bay area.

the nbc bay area app. it was five years ago that a massive explosion and fire leveled a san bruno neighborhood killing eight people and destroying homes. >> "today in the bay's" stephan stephan stephanie chuang is live to see how far the community has come. >> reporter: that's right, for a remembrance there, but before that, here at city hall, the mayor talking about what's happened in the last five years in terms of improvement and safety. the memories are still fresh for so many. a huge fireball after a high pressure pg&e gas line ruptured. pg&e made a move to get federal charges dismissed. the utility is nation up to $1.2 billion accused of safety violations and obstruction of justice.

the mayor and other city leaders will continue to fight for more pipeline safety increases. >> it's a collaboration with the utility and regulator, a lot of it in confrontation, and that's a really unfortunate thing, because we all relieny eon our regulators and utilities to take of us. >> reporter: in terms of those criminal charges, a judge will consider that two weeks from now and again in a month. the jury trial is expected to start next march. they've already fined pg&e $1.6 billion. on that note, they want to make sure that they do not benefit from that fine. investigators hope that an autopsy is going to help them figure out what killed a man that disappeared while camping with his wife at angel lake. searchers found him overnight.

he was searched for nearly 36 hours before they finally located him. investigators do not believe that foul play was involved. new this morning, police tell people to be on high alert after they say a man tried to kidnap a girl in fairfield. the girl was walking east taylor avenue about 6:00 in the morning. that's when police say the man tried to grab her and pull her towards a creek. the girl struggled, got free and escaped. the attacker ran away. and a hearing is scheduled for today for chow and between co-defendants. those accused of running a crime organization. they say charges ranging from money laundering from drugs to weapons trafficking. one attorney in the case says he expects a flock of emotion in

the courtroom when chow's co-defendants likely ask to have their cases heard separately. and several published reports say oakland paid the driver of the other car involved in the accident $15,000. a driver also received $11,000 for vehicle repairs. this was cell phone video taken right after the crash that happened in june present she was driving a city-owned car when she collided. and a wild scene, not on the strip, but on the tarmac. passengers had to scramble for safety as their british airways flight caught fire. this morning, we're getting new information. the ntsb just announced they're sending three investigators to mccarron international. look at that, a british airways jet taxiing on the runway about to take off for london. the boeing 777 never got

airborne after it caught fire. emergency slides were activated to get all 159 passengers and 13 crew members out. >> there was a lady with a very young baby not too far from us, she was brave taking her baby off the flight really quickly. pretty much, everyone was trying to help her. >> despite all of the drama marx amazingly, 14 passengers suffered a minor injury. >> all right. certainly hot in vegas this time of year. it's very hot this time of year in the bay area. >> yeah, it's all about the same. if you have asthma, if you're going to be outside, you want to try to limit the time outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. the ozone levels will be unhealthy, especially in the north bay, east bay and south bay. the peninsula approaching those unhealthy levels. that will likely continue all week. officialing urge you to carpool

out this morning after a probe into favoritism. united supposedly started a route between newark and columbia, south carolina, because an official with the new york port authority had a summer home in south carolina and wanted a direct flight. united means a lot to the local economy. it's san mateo county's largest employer. five times bigger than electronic arts. a lot of people in san mateo county this morning are having a look. >> we can cut dr. carson a break. it's not like he's a neurosurgeon. >> yeah, richt. >> or a rocket scientist. 6:18 right now. i department store anchor of several bay area malls could be shutting its doors in just a few months. >> macy's announced it's going to close 40 underperforming stores across the country. the department chain said some

employees who work at those stores may be offered positions at nearby locations. workers will be offered severance pack amounts. no word on which locations are actually going to be closed. there are more than 20 macy's department stores in the bay area. you might want to head to the mall today because that will be a cool thought. air conditioning is free. it's go to be hot across the bay. >> my son likes to go to the library. that's where we go during the hottest hours. >> yeah. >> running around, taking books off the shelves, all that stuff. i think it will be one of those days. it will be sizzling once again. and we're taking a look at a clear sunrise in san francisco, at the bay bridge. absolutely gorgeous shot. all of the people rolling across the bay bridge get a view of that beautiful sunrise. and all of that sun will be heating things up. 65 degrees in livermore and hayward. 64 in concord. not much of a wind just yet. into the afternoon, we've had

not much of an onshore flow. that's the reason why temperatures have been building up. and today, more of the northwesterly wind, it does turn onshore by evening but not really that strong. by then, temperatures will be really hot and highs today in the 90s and even up to 100 degrees. if you're heading to the beach, we will still have hot weather there with the wind blowing in from the north. and pacifica at 87 degrees. half moon bay, 89 degrees. at least the water temperature is cool. water temperatures in the mid-60s. check out santa cruz. it's going to be 95 degrees there today. so get ready for that. offshore winds and clear skies certainly seen the past few days. wind temperatures near 100 to 105 for the next several days until friday. here's something that may change our weather. we've been watching hurricane linda. it is moving just to the west of cabo. into the next couple of days, that will be spreading moisture across southern california and

that may be drawn into the bay area, giving us more humidity, more clouds and a slight chance of rain this weekend into the start of next week but look at these temperatures in san jose. 100 degrees, 99 degrees, 96 degrees, yeah more of the heat. the normal high, 83 degrees. and even by the end of the weekend, we still don't have our average temperatures. a look at all of the numbers across the bay area from 80s and 90s, but at least we're coming down from 100 degrees in the tri valley, make the plans accordingly, something to cool off this weekend. let's see how the commute is moving. >> i like how you said, hey, at least it's not 100. at least we're not stopped, the morning commute, north bay, nothing dramatic. look at the map, we do have the green sensors san rafael bridge to richmond and down to the golden gate bridge as well.

not a backup at the toll plaza because the metering lights are on. no major concern there. but the build is on after 6:00 now, we're looking at southbound 680, southbound 880, with volume building towards the fremont. a crash cleared from the roadway. and eastbound 84 getting out to southbound 680. and the tri valley this morning, a crash on greenville. down on the left side. you see the area, the camera shows you the volume of traffic very manageable. their actions raised a lot of eyebrows. now they've been banned from class but will they be sent to jail. two high school athletes who tackled a referee during a football game could learn their fate later today. it's going to bring the heat with it. yesterday, it was hot today. it's going to be even worse. triple digits across much of the bay area. 'the heat wave is forcing some schools to cut classes short. sfwr we have multiple reports this morning. kris sanchez is. >> and kari hall with the record breaking numbers. >> yeah, we're watching those temperatures. from 11:00 to 7:00 p.m., that's when temperatures will be jumping up to 106 degrees for some of the inland valleys. now, in the low 50s in the north bay. 66 degrees in san jose. and the east bay at 63 degrees but check out these highs. in the 90s all across the board. over 100 degrees in the south bay. the tri valley, a high of 106 degrees. i'll let you know when this all comes to an end. we'll take a look at that

some parents have criticized the district's decision about perhaps they could use the opportunity to talk to the kids about being safe in the heat but the kids themselves, they're not complaining. >> i think it's ridiculous. but i'm not going to complain. >> i'm out of school early. >> it's hard to practice, you feel heavier. >> reporter: it's preparing for the season other than this friday, of course there's no time to waste. but they're not practicing outside. they're moving the practice indoors so the coaches can get them out of the blazing sun. all other outdoor activity cancelled for today. whether or not your kids, that's 8,000 kids in the campbell school district high school, the advice is the same, make sure they have water. make sure they drink their water. and make sure they stay out of the sun as much as possible. in saratoga, kris sanchez.

bruno neighborhood. >> "today in the bay" stephanie chuang is joining us live in san bernardino to tell you how long the community has come. >> reporter: quite a ways. the mayor will be giving an update at city hall. also communities will gather at ground zero at 6:00 tonight for a remembrance. it's a painfully fresh memory for some people who have never moved back in the neighborhood. witnessing that fireball in the sky, the day that the pg&e gas line ruptured that way. and they describe the efforts to enhance pipeline safety as a battle, not a collaboration. he says pg&e has not accepted responsibility for the tragedy that claimed eight lives. >> i know that pg&e is fined $1 billion and they're trying to take say tax write-off for a portion of that money.

her towards a creek. the girl struggled, fought back and she was able to escape. the attacker then ran away. what exactly happened behind bars three deputies accused of killing an inmate are now accused of assaulting another one. er? rah lubrin, matt far reis and rafael rodriguez are favoring charges. prosecutors say they attack, michael tyree who is mentally ill. tyree was found beaten to death in this jail cell. >> those who are supposed to protect michael tyree did not. instead, they killed him. >> a correctional deputies did not enter a plea to the murder charges yesterday. if convicted, they face life in prison. >> the writing may be on the wall, or unfinished wall over that huge $300 million hospital

expansion project of san jose valley. nbc bay area has learned that they've sent a default notice to turner construction, an indication the company will likely be fired from the hospital project. they could also halt work on an underground utility system being built by turner construction. officials tell us that construction at that site is years behind schedule. the county is expected to make an official condition by the end of the week. a battle is brewing between big business and a community inest bay. the issue is toxic material. a green cement plant will replay the general mills plant. they said the plant will generate 20 jobs and green high-performance green concrete. people are skeptical about how many toxins will come along with that plan. >> we have a problem with the environmental impact report. it has a lot of information and tells us a lot about this project. but what it doesn't do is tell

us how much contaminants, and what type of contaminants we can expect. >> environmental impact review has a revisioned map that shows increased cancer risks for this neighborhood. >> we reached out to the city's community and economic development director and have not heard back. some homeowners in movado were stunned to find their dream house was trashed by thieves before they ever moved in. take a look at these pictures posted on facebook. you can see paint on floors and unpacked furniture. they say some teenagers broke in and threw a party. partygoers poured beer in the new air ducts causing thousands of dollars of damage. if you know anything about this illegal house party, people would like to hear about it. 6:38, a lot of people are going to need a cooler place to head do, across the bay area,

with high temperatures. a lot of people don't have air conditioning here. >> yeah, it's really hard to cool off at night, too. especially when we start off with mild temperatures. as you head out today, this is what you need to know, your weather headlines, mostly clear this morning. sunrise happening in about 7 minutes. and rapid warming today. most cities will be anywhere from 95 to 106 degrees. yeah, another hot one. with some decent cooling later on tonight. a high of 100 degrees in san jose. palo alto, 98, silvan, 95 degrees, that's where we were yesterday. widespread highs over 100 degrees once again today. not much of a wide range from the coast to inland area. it is going to be hot everywhere escaping the heat. it lasts for a couple days. i'll take a look at the weekend forecast in a few minutes. let's see how it's going with mike. >> 80s in the marina, and

definitely hot around the bay. over here, a commute once again, across the bay, san mateo bridge, we'll look at the map, because of that volume of traffic moving over the peninsula, taking the volume off of 84. look the at 880. look at 880, and 680 both moving smoothly. towards 84, we had a big jam because of an earlier crash. one lane blocked. a lot of activity there. they cleared that car from a ditch that happened early in the morning. starting back out to the tri valley commute. the rest of the bridge is moving smoothly. the bay area lights are on the top of the screen. the bottom of the screen throws the south bay kicking in now. north 101 at that 680 interchange. heading to the airport. back to you. it is officially a royal record when it comes to ruling england no one has ever served longer than her majesty the

covering apple, some of the best guesses are they'll updating, revealing a new apple tv one that will incorporate siri into its command so users can talk to the tv. and they're also incorporating the technology and found in the iwatch. a 12 megapixel camera that can shoot 4k video. the pressure is on this time around for apple. this soon to be statistically football them without something breathtakingly new. >> i think they want reason to want a new iphone but also to get people excited, for is it apple tv or iwatch or ipad. if you don't have one product, you're going to want one of their other products.

a new audience, inviting people who have never been to an apple invite, much less 10 or 15 of these events to kind of get the excitement back up. the new generation of bloggers who will see this as new. and the third has to do with apple tvs as bob mentioned. we're pretty sure that apple is going to open up apple tv to third-party developers to try to generate excitement in the developer world. because developers can make a vice much more interesting. apple tv doesn't have an app store yet. people love their iphones but it's only partly because of the iphones. it's really the app. apps that have nothing to do with apple. uber makes your phones better. for some people, it's tinder, or angry birds or youtube or netflix while you're waiting for a bus. all of these ideas that apple didn't have to pay for but actually helps to sell iphones. so if they've got really interesting apps off the phone and on to apple tv, a device

>> we know it's been hot all day long, relief -- >> we've been looking at the forecast for the rest of the week. and it's just sizzling out there. near record highs the past couple of days and it continues into today. as we take a live look from the sunrise over san bruno mountain, over towards san francisco, a clear start to the day, once again, just like forever, as we've seen a cloud in the sky or fog in the morning. it has been hot and it continues once again. as we start out this morning in the north bay. look at that, 53 degrees. at least we do have one cool spot. it's already in the mid-60s and heading into the 90s and over 100 degrees across the bay. 97 in the east bay, tri valley, 106. and today, the beach forecast, i'm going to find a place to cool off. it will even be warm at the beach. pacifica, a high of 88 degrees.

half moon bay, 89 degrees. at least the water temperature is comfortable, 64 degrees there. santa cruz, yes, on the boardwalk, it's 95 degrees. answer the offshore flow continues into the next couple of days, warm temperatures heating up to 100, 105 into friday. here's something that may throw a wildcard into the forecast for the weekend and maybe bring the heat here. here's hurricane linda. it continues to weaken and just to the west of cabo and may spread moisture into southern california. we'll see if it makes it into the bay area. but a slight rain chance in the forecast for saturday and sunday. more humidity for certain, as it spreads more clouds into the area. look at the trend of our temperatures in the tri valley, livermore going from 106 today to 103 on friday. and then this weekend, 93. but when you throw in high humidity, you won't feel any more comfortable. so the weekend forecast will be mostly sunny, a few clouds during the afternoon. and highs in the 80s and 90s all

across the bay. san francisco, dropping back to 74 on sunday. let's see how this is moving with mike. >> we're looking over here towards san jose, 101, overall, 101 and 680 and the entire san jose area, we see that general trend starting to build. and the expressway, folks joining the party there, 85 and 80, and in that direction. this is the beginning of a couple hours of very slow hours for the south bay. palo alto looking good. and across the san mateo bridge, the peninsula will first start slowing first at san mateo, and 880, a crash 880 at 8th street a big rig and vehicles currently blocking the slow lane. traffic is slowed there. we should see at least a couple vehicles cleared. the bay bridge, so far the
