injured as firefighters continue to work to knock down massive flames, all this have happening right now off of anchor drive in bay point. our reporter bob redell is out there right now following the very latest. >> that's right. he has been gathering all the latest information. we know firefighters had a very tough time battling these flames. as he gathers that information we will check with him as soon as he is available. we're following more hills, that's where crews are getting the upper hand on a five acre brush fire burning off of bear canyon road. that fire started just after 12:30 this morning t has already burned one structure but it's unclear in f. that structure was or was not a house. no word on any injuries yet. we will be checking back in with these breaking news stories throughout the morning. now to more flames this time in the south bay. crews spent the night checking for hot spots after a brush fire came dangerously close to a mobile home park. right next to the san jose

municipal golf course. firefighters had a tough time getting to that fire. heavy brush in the area helped push the flames towards the river bend mobile home park, about eight acres burned, the good news is the fire is now out, no word on how it started, but there are several homeless encampments in that area. only on nbc bay area, a nurse allegedly the victim in a sexual assault now filing suit against the alameda share his office. >> to valley care medical center in pleasanton. that's where they say the suspect attacked the nurse there. he previously had done time for a deadly stabbing and was later treated at napa state hospital, but the nurse's attorney says deputies never alerted the hospital about the man's violent past. >> nobody was ever alerted to the fact that this was somebody who had been acting out sexually before or that this was somebody who had a significant violent history.

>> we don't release people out of our jail that get on the bus and we don't tell people on butts this guy was in on this charge and had this medical history. inmates have their privacy rights as well. >> the sheriff's office says it would have been against the law to release that suspect's history. calling for more gun control in california following the shooting deaths of a television reporter and photographer in virginia. the group moms against guns is holding a rally today in san francisco demanding officials create new laws to end gun violence. the rally is in response to a plea from andy parker, the father of television reporter alison parker. parker and her photographer adam ward were executed on live television by a disgruntled former employee. similar rallies will be held across the country. the lone survivor that have attack is out of the hospital and she plans to create a memorial for parker and ward.

virginia chamber of commerce official vicky gardner was released from the hospital earlier this week. she was shot several times in that attack. in a press release garner says she is sure there is a reason she is alive and wants to create a lasting legacy for the journalists who are not. well, we do have a bit of good news here. i saw kari's graphic it said not as hot as yesterday, kari. >> but still very hot for the inland areas. along the coast that's where it starts to come down and especially this weekend. a look outside right now, 63 degrees in the east bay and, look, there is some fog in the peninsula along the coast it's 68 degrees and highs today up to 100 degrees. in the north bay, east bay, 94 degrees, san francisco looking a little bit better, how about 84 degrees today. 92 in the peninsula and the south bay today topping out at 96 degrees. still hot in the tri-valley, 105 and into the afternoon we still

feel the sizzle in the air, but this weekend gets a little bit better. i will show you the weekend forecast coming up in just a few minutes, let's see how the commute is rolling with mike. we're taking you out to dublin where it was very hot overnight hours look at the flashing lights eastbound 580 right around tassajara. there's mild slowing rkts not enough to show up on the map. it still registers green as those crews move over in the next half hour, that's the dublin interchange. a smooth drive anywhere in the vicinity. south bay one crash south 101, it sounds like everything is out of the lanes, we don't see any slowing but it's been there for a while. this yellow past the airport and farther south just down to 60 so no major concern. as we move up toward the bay bridge we have a nice smooth flow of traffic no problems for the maze or getting into san francisco. i do want to show you the golden gate bridge, things are changing weather wise and this wasn't here when i was there over the

just been up, never too early to start to tailgate. we have breakfast burgers and brats on the grill after an off-season that's left a bad taste in the mouth of many nfl fans. a lot of people hoping that now the focus will return to the field and it should be an exciting start here tonight. more than 68,000 people expected to be here as the patriots j unveiled their fourth super bowl banner. it should be a big pregame show and then the actual game. one who won't be in the stands, nfl commissioner roger goodell. it's the first time he has never attended the opening game of the season saying they are still engaged in some legal battles with tom brady and patriots, he doesn't want to detract from what's going on on the field. he will go to the packers game this weekend. shouldn't deter from what's happening here. a lot of people excited to get this thing underway, sam and laura, including yours truly. i couldn't wait to start to

we are pairing a little weather and traffic together this morning as we're apt to do. mike is here, laura is here, kari has your forecast. you are going to be outside in this mess later today. >> the kickoff concert for the super bowl snoot temperature not the celebration. >> yeah. well, it is still going to be hot today, even though we are starting to see some fog creeping into the coast, but, yeah, the inland areas no relief there. as you head out we are looking at clear blue skies, beautiful

shot from san jose and our temperatures are mild as you step out the door. as you head out today this is what you need to know as we get a view of the bay bridge, we will have some coastal clouds and fog this morning and the sunrise at 6:48. it stays hot inland, but our coastal temperatures, that's where you can go to find some relief. the fog returns tonight, sunset right before 7:30. now it's 70 degrees in livermore, we are starting the day at 70 degrees there, and it is 62 in napa, san francisco 59 degrees, in san jose it is 69 degrees. so no need for a jacket, just yet. as we go into the afternoon it will be hot once again. lightweight, light color, loose fitting clothing, that's what you need as we deal with this heat once again. not much of an on-shore flow, the wind is so weak and it's doing nothing to carry the cool air inland. so as we do see the winds picking up near the coast the rest of us will still be baking

and we won't get those cooler temperatures until later on this evening. a look at all the microclimates, san jose 96 degrees, burlingame 90 degrees n san francisco mid 80s, napa 99 degrees, antioch 102 and livermore today 105 degrees. take a look at that weekend forecast, it's coming up in just a few minutes. let's see how the commute is rolling. we're looking toward the south bay. tracking two fires, bun in bay point and one in crockett. overnight there was a fire off of 152 and that's got one lane blocked over near dinosaur point. over here we are looking at southbound 101 as we are looking at moffett we do have that crash with activity on the shoulder and folks were out of their cars, but they've moved that vehicle from lanes so no slowing showing up there. approaching the bay bridge no problem and toll plaza looks a little something like that. there you go. a couple of cash waiters. back to you. mike loves to do that reveal. >> it's like a game show host.

get people to make the upgrade. they also say the ipad pro is >> big and too similar to microsoft's tablet. >> amazon is pulling the plug on its fire smartphone a little more than a year after launching the device. the company says it sold all its inventory and won't restock t although it will still provide customer support. the fire phone was met with lackluster phones and they have since laid off several engineers that worked on it. >> thank you very much. u.s. department of justice is taking on big business. new guidelines on prosecuting executives in white cal lar cases not just their corporations. according to the "new york times" this is in response to criticism the obama administration did not prosecute people involved in the financial melt down and housing crisis in

2008. by going after certain individuals the justice department says it hopes to change corporate culture. >> the entire san jose city council under investigation. the mercury news reporting that san jose ethics commission announced yesterday it's launching an investigation into nearly 40 city council members and candidates. that, by the way, including mayor sam liccardo. it's an unprecedented move. the committee thinks council members and candidates may have violated an election law. a civil rights group is calling for change at whole foods stores nationwide after a security guard allegedly beat a shopper unconscious in oakland. since last week's incident whole foods has hired a new security company and eliminated armed guards from its northern california locations, but the group color of change says that's not enough so the group is holding a rally today demanding an end to armed security at all stores as well as a public apology. police are still investigating

the incident. the victim is recovering. a bay area man says he was beaten by san francisco police because of the color of his skin. now that man has filed a civil rights complaint against the department. 23-year-old travis hall says that he was targeted in april, he was with his friends in a car when officers detained them. hall says when he tried to call his mother officers yanked him out of the car and beat him. >> not all police do terrible things, but the ones who assaulted me unfortunately cast an ugly shadow on the rest of the sfpd. >> hall was arrested, charges, though, later dropped. the aclu is helping him file a federal civil rights complaint against sfpd, the officers and the city of san francisco. city attorneys office says it has not had enough time to review the complaint to comment. a follow-up on an apparent hate crime in service. officers arrested john scenone for painting graffiti slurs.

to transportation options. transportation commissioners are recommending the city loosen its rules when it comes to electric bicycles and motorized scooters. right now their use is restricted. the new proposal also seeks to lower the legal age for using nomotorized scooters from 16 to 12. city council members will have to discuss creating a any ordinan ordinance. commute chaos on the peninsula. changes to one road are leading to gridlock and outrage and calls for the city to put the plan in reverse. redwood city is reducing the number of lanes on parts of farm hill boulevard between alameda de las pulgas and canada college. they showed some video of cars snaking their way up the hill during the morning commute. drivers say what used to be two minutes now takes more than ten. just after a few days here many drivers say it's already time to put the brakes on this test run.

>> it's time consuming if you are going somewhere. i have to plan another five to ten minutes everywhere i go. >> city leaders say that the goal is to slow down drivers to prevent accidents. in 2014 there were 24 crashes on farm hill, almost a third of them were speed related. the city of sonoma reportedly getting close to silencing leaf blowers. the press democrat reports at least two city council members continued to push last night for a full ban on all gas powered leaf blowers. the ban would not extend to businesses or city parks. at the same time electric blowers would only be allowed in certain neighborhoods and only for limited hours every day. sonoma's mayor says he still opposes the ban and calls the proposal unnecessary. it has been a rocky start for california's new standardized tests. fewer than half of california students prove to be proficient in matt or english. those results were released yesterday. statewide one-third of public school students tested as proficient in matt for their

grade level, only 44% proficient in english. minority had the lowest scores on smart balance tests. education officials say they are disappointed with the results but not surprised and these first scores should be considered a starting point. >> keep studying, kids. for another year several bay area universities sitting pretty above the annual ranking of colleges. not number one, stand sford tied with number four behind princeton and harvard. uk berkeley came in at number 20. when it comes to public cools cal is number one, the colleges on the list are ranked according to academic excellence, graduation and retention rate. >> not bad representation there. coming up, a delicate issue that is going to reenter the national spotlight later today, gun reform. from coast to coast the families of gun violence victims rallying for finally changing the law

"today in the bay's" bob redell is there. bob, is the fire out? >> reporter: it is. it's been out for quite some time. when you take a look at this video you will get a better understanding as to why it took the contra costa county fire department several h put out the fires and also cause aid lot of damage and destruction. the fire started around 1:20 this morning, destroyed two houses, damaged two more, burned up two cars parked in driveways. the fire started at a house on one side of the street, spraetd to the houses on the left and rate, thed
