the mid-50s to lower 60s as you head out the door and today we'll see some warmer air moving in compared to yesterday because of the lack of cloud cover, we'll get some sunshine today. 80 degrees in the south bay. 79 degrees in the north bay and san francisco today reaching 71. the tri-valley up to 83 degrees. we continue to warm heading into the weekend. i'll have more on that coming up. let's say good morning to mike. >> good morning, kari. we're looking over to the cash payers waiting on either side but the right approach just start to clear and more people reporting for work. no problem for our speed sensors and concord, walnut creek a couple incidents. i want to start with this one. 180 over at hilltop and no slowing off the carquinez bridge. to this developing story now, a rain, a welcome sight at the valley fire as it continues

to smolder. but crews continue to gain more ground on those flames day by day. the fire is more than 76% contained and nearly 600 have already been destroyed by the fire. we are learning another death amid the destruction. stephanie chuang live with details on details of a second victim found. >> we're still waiting to hear from the sheriff's office who that late victim was. we are saying four people are still missing. one is 69-year-old who was a reporter until 1985. he lives on rose anderson road where houses were burned through. a lot of video of the fire there. cadaver dogs did not find any trace of him. on saturday afternoon ness told his wife he was ignoring a warning to leave because he did not smell smoke.

coastal towns. the 8.3 magnitude quake hit yesterday afternoon. emergency crews sent out tsunami warnings and watches up and down the california coast and in hawaii, as well. "today in the bay "bob redell live at uc berkeley where we're learning more about this, bob. tell us about the danger to california, if any. >> if you talk to seismologists here at the u.c. berkeley size mu logical lab. there is a warning in effect. we're talking about 45 miles southeast of los angeles up to 50 miles northwest of san luis. this is the result of the 8.3 magnitude earthquake that struck off the northern chile coastline causing small tsunami waves that flooded coastal towns in that

country. across the pacific they are expected to hit the california coastline in about ten minutes and the hawaiian islands after 6:00 this morning. >> just an advisory. actually downgraded from a watch. so, the likelihood of something devastating is fairly low. no relationship between earthquakes in chile with earthquakes in california. we locally certainly have nothing to worry about. >> several video cameras caught yesterday's quake in chile. caused buildings in the capital city to sway. forcing many people to run out on the streets. there have been several aftershocks including one that was at least a magnitude 7. "today in the bay." >> bob, thanks. live cameras set up in southern california when that wave comes at 4:47. right now it is 4:35. that means it is time to check in with a look at that forecast. >> as we get a closer look at

that tsunami advisory. once again make it into southern california by 4:46 and then by 5:06 it's around santa barbara and 5:10 where the waves will be at about one to two feet. we'll watch that as we go through the morning, of course. looking here at home, our beaches are going to be fine and we'll see the highs today reaching into the upper 70s to lower 80s and a few clouds this morning and then some sunshine this afternoon. temperatures coming up a few more degrees. 70 degrees in the mission district and oakland 75. pleasanton today topping out at 81 degrees. let's get a morning look at the commute with mike. >> things are looking good as far as our speed sensors go. talked about the crash right around hilltop and no slowing there for the upper east shore. highway 4 just before you get to 680 and concord, an earlier crash happened and still over on

the right shoulder and maybe one lane blocked and no slowing for our sensors and same thing heading down towards walnut creek. we'll zoom the map out and show you folks across the san mateo bridge and dumbarton bridges are moving smoothly. no slowing just yet and a live look at the san mateo bridge itself with no problems across from the peninsula. coming out swinging. the winners and losers of last night's republican debate, next.

at the republican debate last night.. but carly fiorina landed decision 2016. donald trump came out swinging at the republican debate but carly fiorina landed a couple punches. >> frontrunner donald trump certainly gave as good as he got and in typical donald trump fashion he took aim and his fellow candidates did fire back. the 11 leading candidates squared off for more than three hours talking issues from immigration to iran. they talked jobs and the economy and, of course, taxes. the candidates also talked about looking forward instead of looking back and some mention was made of george bush's

administrations. carly fiorina who you mentioned had had some surging poll numbers and that landed her on the main stage for the first time this season. she, though, was not the only one to violate ronald reagan's rule of attacking a fellow republican. >> i think women all over this country heard very clear what trump said. >> we don't need an apprentice in the white house, we have one right now. >> she's the real opponent, she's the real problem. >> that she is, of course, democrat hillary clinton. the only democrat mentioned in that three-hour debate. the next republican debate is not until late october. now the wait is on to see how the poll numbers show how the candidates resonated with voters. a lot of back and forth and a lot of time violation. >> flags thrown. >> animated. we'll call it very animated. coming up, the act that saves lives. >> 911, what is your emergency.

now at the bay bridge, we start out with some clouds this morning. they'll clear out and we'll have some bright and sunny weather later on this afternoon. the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. you can come over and take a look at how our hempttemperatur will be going up. a look at some of the rainfall totals from yesterday. middletown had 0.3 and san francisco much less just 0.04 and in berkeley.02. now that the rain is gone, mild temperatures in the lower 60s. livermore at 63 degrees and with a shift in the wind, we will have some of that smoke coming in from the valley fire into the bay area today. the winds coming in from the north will carry that smoke and possibly some ash, too, with the gusts up to 20 miles an hour. so, the air quality will be lower today and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s all across the bay area.

outer sunset today 64 degrees while napa tops out at 80. into the next couple of days, our temperatures will be heating up. now that the cooler air continues to move to the east, high pressure building in and that will keep our onshore flow from being as strong and our temperatures will be going up. so, in the south bay, tomorrow, a high of 87 degrees. and then up to 98 degrees by sunday. we'll see widespread 90s and even a high over 100 degrees in the tri-valley. it will be hot as we head through the weekend. let's get a look at the commute with mike. >> we're looking at a nice, easy drive for the south bay. no drama for silicon valley and earlier incidents but those have all cleared from 680. watch that washington boulevard off ramp and might be activity at the bottom of the ramp. westbound highway 4 still have that crash approaching, approaching 680, no problems for

walnut creek as far as any slower and bay bridge toll plaza. less approach still does have these folks paying cash. they have to pause to pay. back to you. happening right now. taking a live look at newport beach this morning where a tsunami advisory is now under way. >> we've now passed 4:47. this is the time in which the big wave and by big we mean one or two feet was to have hit. kari, feel free to jump in here. this is not any danger to anyone. this is just an unusual wave. >> they just ask people move away from the coast and move away from the ocean just in case we have larger waves moving in. you can see that. at 4:47 who is laying out on the beach. this is probably the best time for us to have a tsunami advisory and the waves are coming in. nothing too crazy about this one to two feet and there may be some more that may get higher as we go into the next several minutes. >> this is, of course, coming

from the 8.3 magnitude earthquake in chile. this is catalina island, as well. would be the leeward side and you can see the lights are on and everything seems to be fine. this is long beach. this is where we'll see the wave come in just a minute. 4:48 right now. just as the department reached a settlement when general motors over its faulty ignition switches. >> let's turn to landon dowdy. good morning, landon. >> hey, scott and laura. good morning to both of you. stocks rose again on tuesday ahead of the interest rate decision by the federal reserve as energy stocks were boosted by a big jump in oil prices. on whether the fed will pull the trigger on the first interest rate hike in a decade. look for data today on unemployment, housing starts and permits. the dow rising 140 points to 16739. the nasdaq up to 2849.

here we go already inching towards the weekend. want to get a check of that forecast with kari hall. >> today will be a beautiful day across the bay. we will have a little bit more sunshine this afternoon. highs near 80 degrees in san jose. gilroy 82 degrees and pacifica 72 and the mission district at 70 degrees. the morning clouds and we'll see the sun coming out later today.

calistoga and san ramon 79 degrees. we may have smoke filling the air and you may want to limit that time outside. let's see what's happening with the commute now with mike. >> looks like we're on a regular schedule here for the trivalley westbound. flashing lights. no reports right now as you're traveling towards that interchange. watch that for a second. that looks like it's on top of the shoulder. we'll track that. we'll look at the maps and we don't have a lot of unusual slowing coming into that area. grant line road, west 580 a motorcycle down and the rider is up and now everything is in the center divide and little slowing and your typical build where that crash is still there west 4 approaching 680. back to you. >> thanks so much, mike. 4:54 and the fight for affordable housing in san francisco continues this morning. at 11:00, a public hearing held at city hall on the proposed five-mile high rise project at fifth and mission street.

will hear concerns from people who currently live in that neighborhood. many of whom are worried about being priced out. the developer of the 740-foot high rise says a good percentage of projects will be affordable housing. an environmental group raising concern to bring down a big part of that old bay bridge. crews are dismantling the eastern span piece by piece but a 260-foot piece of concrete with explosives. ed to an environmental group will oppose that plan at a public hearing. the group says using explosives could spread concrete debris into the bay. caltrans says it will contain that rubble. a man has tested positive for the west nile virus in marin county. the 57-year-old is recovering at home this morning. it's not clear where he contacted the virus. west nile is transmitted from human from mosquitos.
