the valley fire numbers are growing. the fire is nearly 76,000 acres. the latest live. what is flying at cars? >> rocks and bottles being hurdled at drivers overnight. a bay area school shut its doors opening allegations that its student aide molested a student. "today in the bay" starts right now. and a very good now monday morning to you. thank you so much for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm scott mcgrew in for sam brock. >> i walked out the door at 3:30, 77 degrees. >> it's still very warm across the bay.

you know it's another hot day when we start out at 70 degrees and 69 degrees in the peninsula and 58 degrees in the north bay and all clear skies across the bay area. today's forecast we're still in the 90s and a few spots hitting 100 degrees like in the tri-valley and the east bay it's up to 87 and san francisco up to 85 degrees. still very hot today, but much cooler through the rest of the week. i'll detail that coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike. >> much cooler rest of the week. much easier drive now than later on, but a little slowing on our sensors and nothing reported, but i'll double check and scan whatever else might be slowing things down. a crash over here. that's a pretty remote area for most of our commuters, but a crash, a car spun out and nobody was involved there. the bay bridge has a little backup and i'll show that to you in a second, guys. back to you. now to a developing story, the valley fire numbers are growing. the fire has grown to nearly

76,000 acres. it has destroyed more than 1,000 homes, 6,500 more still in the fire's path. firefighters have surrounded 69% of the fire. they thought a lot of that spread. this is a huge area we're talking about. it impacted a lot of people. today stephanie chuang is live in calistoga and we hope evacuation orders will be lifted. >> that's the plan at 5:00. some people here are waiting for that and others have been able to go home. we have noticed there are fewer tents here and also news some people may be able to wait it out closer to home with evacuation sites moving to middletown. we've got word of that. over the weekend, people were able to go back to see if their homes were still standing and people who live in places like hidden canyon lake and middletown and that's where some of the valley fire victims began their road to rebuilding. it has become a one-stop shop

where people can get help cleaning up and replacing birth certificates lost in the fire. now a great mix of emotion, even whose homes survives are feeling torn. >> it was bitter sweet because a lot of our family members lost multiple homes. >> i was looking around me and i had like survivor syndrome. >> still? >> they have nothing and i was just overwhelmed with sadness. >> reporter: now cal fire says its damage inspection teams are still collecting information in various neighborhood and determine if there is enough danger from the fire to see if they can lift more evacuation orders. again, already some are set to lift 5:00 tonight. now, coming up, calistoga here opened its arms to people.

>> thanks, steph. investigators trying to figure out if a person found dead in monterey county died in the fire or committed suicide. the body was found at the spot where investigators think the ta tassara fire started. the monterey county sheriff's department said it's not sure if the death was an accident or something more. the cause of the fire is still under is investigation, as well. people who have been evacuated are anxiously waiting to see if their homes are okay. deputies will escort them back later today. the fire 30% contained. we'll continue to track all the wildfires burning across california when we're not on air. the latest updates are on our digital platform. new this morning, several people are shaken up after their cars were struck overnight in san francisco. california highway patrol says it happened to two different cars while they were driving on highway 280 near pariposa

street. both drivers called saying they were shot at. once chp investigated more, they say it was not gunfire but most likely a car or a bottle. a cabful of people just arriving to san francisco. >> we got out of the airport and first thing that happened. welcome to san francisco. >> drivers aren't in any dangers on the roads, but make sure you're paying attention at all times. a south bay charter school temporarily shutting its doors. spark charter school in sunnyvale just opened this year but closed to students starting today. according to "mercury news" it hadn't finished its background checks. it will reopen once checks on all employees are complete. the school did not give an exact date. not until police were investigating the molegzation and the child porn accusations that the security came to lapse.

time to check that forecast. a warm one across the bay area, kari, here this weekend. >> let's check out some of those temperatures and show you how hot it was. 93 in san francisco and oakland 94 degrees. livermore 102 and redwood city 98 degrees and we also had a couple of records set in richmond and gilroy with a high of 104 degrees in gilroy and 95 in san jose mountain view and hayward at 96 degrees. it will be just as hot today. we're still talking mid up toer 90s in the south bay peninsula and also 80 in pacifica and san francisco mid-80s and a high of 100 degrees in fairfield today and livermore. i'll talk more about when it cools off coming up in a few minutes and let's see how the commute is rolling with mike. >> show you the live shot, but in the last couple of minutes since then we had the backup over on the right start to ease up. look what they're opening all the toll lanes and this left

despite years of planning, $3.5 million in research, the project hit a wall for good. no one can be convinced to fund the project, which would have turned the coliseum into a huge sports shopping and housing center creating as many as 32,000 jobs. now, city and county leaders are faced with trying to keep the oakland a's and the raiders in town. coming up, it's launched a lot of promising companies very few, a few very embarrassing ones, as well. tech crunch disrupt gets under way in san francisco today. we'll take a look, just ahead. ad lib toss to wx

4:44 on a monday morning. already fairly warm out there. >> yeah, it is going to be heating up again today. this is the last day before it starts to come back down and we officially start fall this week. it is going to be, yes, technically, according to the calendar. let's take a live look outside right now. we're taking a look at the bay bridge with a clear start and, yes, it is mild. no need for a jacket, not so much today. and into the afternoon you can see that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. it is still going to be sweltering out there today. as we take a look at these temperatures now, it is 58 degrees in the north bay and in the south bay, it is 68 degrees. a high of 87 can be expected in the east bay and the tri-valley, still up to 100 degrees. san francisco 85 degrees and 95 in the north bay and still some mid-90s for the south bay and

the peninsula. not much wind today. we will see a calm wind throughout the afternoon. so, nothing to give us any relief until later on this afternoon and even then you see that the on-shore flow really isn't that strong at about 10 to 15 miles per hour. the air quality will be bad when we have the stagnant air conditions and also all that sunshine and high heat. it approaches unhealthy, that means if you have asthma or breathing problems, you should limit your time outside and also in the south bay, it's a little bit better in the north bay, as well as the peninsula. and the rest of the week, we will see those temperatures coming way down. check out the forecast for san francisco. tomorrow, it is going to be in the upper 60s. so, that's going to be much better. i will talk more about that and what to expect this weekend coming up in a few minutes, let's check in now with mike. >> look at 580 in dublin. live camera and an easy drive as you're heading up towards tas

homes. the dow falling 290 points to 16385 and the nasdaq losing 67 to 4827. apple is removing some of the most popular apps used in china from its app store after hackers got developers to use fake software to create those programs. cybersecurity firms say there's no evidence yet any personal data was stolen. apple hasn't said what step users could take to determine if their apps are affected. a black eye for the company which long prided itself on security measures to screen software in its app stores. if you plan on spending sunday on the couch, you were out of luck. amazon chose servers for major websites and the cloud suffered an outage for five hours yesterday morning. netflix, but amazon video, and amazon says its use at its cloud facility in virginia are to blame. >> thank you very much. i know this happened to me

>> you'll want to roll over once you see this forecast and get back in bed. it starts out with mild temperatures. we're at 57 degrees in the north bay and san francisco at 67 degrees and a high of 85 today. still in the 90s and poor air quality today with all of that sunshine and not much of a wind and in the tri-valley, a high of 100 degrees still today. but it does cool down as we go through the week. i'll show you that coming up in the microclimate forecast in a few minutes and let's see how the roads are moving with mike. >> a couple critical points where they're crashing this morning. this one southbound 101, see the flashing lights there. heading away from the bay bridge and that's towards caesar chavez. the flashing lights the first of the incident and there's an overturned vehicle in the lanes and chp says they don't know how long it is going to take, but be an issue for folks out of san francisco. no backup at the bay bridge plaza but over here dublin
