>> you'll want to roll over once you see this forecast and get back in bed. it starts out with mild temperatures. we're at 57 degrees in the north bay and san francisco at 67 degrees and a high of 85 today. still in the 90s and poor air quality today with all of that sunshine and not much of a wind and in the tri-valley, a high of 100 degrees still today. but it does cool down as we go through the week. i'll show you that coming up in the microclimate forecast in a few minutes and let's see how the roads are moving with mike. >> a couple critical points where they're crashing this morning. this one southbound 101, see the flashing lights there. heading away from the bay bridge and that's towards caesar chavez. the flashing lights the first of the incident and there's an overturned vehicle in the lanes and chp says they don't know how long it is going to take, but be an issue for folks out of san francisco. no backup at the bay bridge plaza but over here dublin interchange for botouth 680

and we'll give you more details as we get them from chp. back to you. the valley fire numbers are growing. fire is now nearly 76,000 acres. more than 1,000 homes are destroyed. 6,500 more still in the fire's path. firefighters have surrounded 69% of the fire. they stopped much of that spread. >> a huge area we're talking about. it impacted a lot of people. steph, some evacuation orders will likely be lifted today. >> that's right, scott and laura. set to happen in 12 hours at 5:00 tonight and some people have already gone home and they're back at the evacuation center here because their houses have burned down. everyone trying to figure out how to move forward and to help here schools here in calistoga for the time being. very welcome news as more people were allowed back home this weekend. not 24 hours ago families were

allowed to return to the area of hidden valley lake and bus canyon road where pg&e crews were still trying to fix power lines. grateful for the step forward but it is daunting thinking about what lies ahead in the struggle to rebuild. >> i was lying in our hotel room in ft. bragg just wondering where do you restart, you know . >> a lot of questions. also this weekend, people were allowed to go back to middletown. many starting at the senior center and that has become the go-to for people seeking help to replace birth certificates and help with cleaning up. there are even therapy dogs there to help with the emotional support of it all. there is also word that a new evacuation site may open up in middletown at the twin pine casino and that is to help people wait it out closer to home instead of having to make this half hour drive from calistoga. >> steph, thanks. investigators trying to figure out if a person found

dead in monterey fire died in the fire. where they think the tassajara fire started on saturday. destroyed ten homes. the monterey county sheriff department says it is not sure if the person committed suicide or died in the fire. the cause of that fire still under investigation, as well. this morning, the people who have been evacuated are waiting to see if their homes are okay. deputies will escort them later today. that fire, 30% contained. we'll continue to track all the wildfires burning across when we're not onory or go to our digital platforms. startled to a stop. shortly after leaving sfo a taxi full of tourists targeted on the freeway. >> chuck, the taxi was hit by some sort of flying object. >> that's right. the chp and san francisco police

both investigating these incidents and commuters coming into san francisco on the northbound 280 extension might want to be aware. someone overnight was throwing objects that struck a taxi with passengers inside who had just arrived at sfo from australia. another vehicle was hit, also, sustaining even more damage to its windshield. the incidents happening just before midnight. fortunately, neither incident caused the drivers to lose control, but they did shake up people inside. >> drove in here and the first thing that happened. you know, welcome to san francisco. >> and so loud that the parties reported it to be a bullet but once we got on scene and oophan after speaking with the drivers we established some objects other than bullets because the physical evidence shows those are not bullets. >> chp and san francisco police

sunnyvale. kris, is the school closed for good? >> this is a temporary closure as approved in a special boardmeeting here held right on the blacktop last night. now, the reading says that it was by the principal's decision to close the school, but it really is by order of the santa clara county office of education, which granted the school charter contingent upon proper background checks and fingerprinting of the staff. within the first month of the school's operation a cafeteria worker molested an 18-year-old girl on the campus during the school day. arraigned on friday on charges of mololestation and child pornography. that's when the county office of education it did not meet the requirement of fingerprinting all employees. the school has 160 students from kindergarten through sixth

more degrees heading into tomorrow. we'll talk about that and look at the rest of the week coming up in a few minutes. >> i've turned the 580 camera over towards the dublin interchange. both moving equally and smoothly, but you see some flashing lights. more flashing lights. let's show you what's going on here. west 580 at wi680 a crash. we had slowing in both directions. the san ramon a big rig and a fire reported for that big rig and then no details after that. also a motorcycle crash nearby those two may be related. but, again, slowing we saw earlier there starting to clear up. no problems that bay bridge, just a little build there. southbound 101 getting out of san francisco and caesar chavez has two left lanes blocked heading towards 280. chp says they're not sure when maybe half an hour and that could be an issue. the rest of the east bay and north bay looking good, though, guys.

much, not today. >> not today. >> come on, kari. >> the rest of the week is looking better. let's hope we can just make it through today. the rest of the week, you'll be able to turn off the ac, at least for a few hours in many spots. let's take a live look outside right now in san jose. when you step out the door, you're like, wow, this is kind of warm out here and it's going to be hot, again today. as you take a look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. you see the trend and the temperatures going down as we officially start fall in the middle of this week. it's 57 degrees now in the north bay and 68 degrees in the peninsula and all clear skies across the bay area and our highs today reaching 92 grees and 87 degrees in the east bay and tri-valley still up to 100 degrees in san francisco and 85 to bay and the south bay in the mid-90s. we go into the early morning afternoon and not seeing the

winds picking up unet later on today 10 tee 15 miles per hour. that onshore flow not being that strong. still a day with poor air quality in the east bay as well as the south bay. approaching moderate levels in the south bay and the peninsula. just a day if you have breathing problems to limit your time outside and try to exercise during the hottest times of the day. we will have some fog rolling right across golden gate bridge and along the immediate coast and that will keep those temperatures down there as we go through today. the next few days, a stronger onshore flow will bring in much cooler temperatures. it will go from 85 degrees today to 68 degrees for the high tomorrow in san francisco. let's see how the roads are moving now with mike. >> kari, we're looking over towards a couple crashes for the trivalley. the crash on the shoulder, minor distraction, but that's a critical point. all this traffic slows approaching dublin. south 680 a lot of early slowing and you still have at least one lane likely blocked with crews on scene from two crashes that

whole rebuilding process. over the weekendal were able tago back to hidden valley lake where the senior center is a one-stop shop for food, help with cleaning up, insurance forms and replacing birth certificates lost in the fire. the work to resume life is prit daunting for many people. but as we've seen and heard over and over again the valley fire victims are doing a lot to work to stay positive. >> we have to be the phoenix that rises from the ashes. those of us who have a place, you know, to start with and we can help the ones who don't. >> and part of rebuilding includes school, of course, for students. all kelseyville schools resume class today and the hope is that middletown schools may be able to open thursday. that's dependent on cleanup. all families have the right to immediately enroll their kids in schools where they're temporarily living without any sort of documents. i mean, they can just get their kids back in class where they are including here in calistoga.

meantime, those back in middletown there is a water boil notice to boil your water for a minute before drinking and the other evacuation orders to be lifted are set to happen at 5:00 tonight. live here in calistoga, stephanie cahuang. the butte fire burning, as well. as of this morning, everyone is being allowed back into their homes. all evacuation orders have been lifted. the cleanup is going to take a while. that wildfire destroyed more than 500 homes, also burned through nearly 71,000 acres. firefighters have a little bit more work to do, but containment is at 72%. another deadly fire is burning just south of the bay area in monterey county. we're learning there has been a death in the tas sajara fire. this morning it's burned more than 1,000 acres and destroyed ten homes. monterey sheriff department said

according to chp in san francisco cars northbound interstate 280 just before mariposa street on a 280 extension. two overpasses just before marposa and shortly before midnight two vehicles were struck in their windshield. >> we pulled over and then the people behind us pulled over, too. >> we have not found anybody. if anybody has any information please call 1-800-call-chp. all the public help is appreciated. >> neither driver lost control and was tapull off to the 300 block of king street where investigators determined that bottles were the principal objects thrown. it is a misdemeanor, but could be a felony under certain circumstances and how unnerving to think bullets have struck your car. >> chuck, thanks. the father of 8-year-old maddie middleton will hold a

rally today just before her accused teenage killer heads back to work her 15-year-old neighbor, adrian gonzalez, is charged with murdering her six weeks ago a few feet from her home in santa cruz. her father is calling on the community to join him outside the courthouse to help him keep the focus on maddie. gonzalez is expected to enter a plea to charges of murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. the woman who jumped off the bay bridge and vanished for weeks is back in court today. sanchez edwards was arrested in oakland. the chp says she crashed her stolen car on the bridge last month and then tried to get away by jumping off the bridge. roughly a six-story fall. sanchez edwards swam to shore and went back to shore and apparently hitched a ride home. she was intoxicated and working as a prostitute that night. she is now facing several charnels. the search continues this morning for a person suspecked of armed robbery at an east bay

gas stashtion. the suspect used a handgun. this happened about 4:00 in the afternoon. the cashier says the gunman got awith an undisclosed amount of cash. the chp helicopter searched the area but couldn't find him. following accusations that a teacher's aide molested an 8-year-old student. >> kris sanchez live in sunnyvale, and the school just opened year. >> within a month's time that employee was arrested. accused of molesting a girl right here on campus during the day. now, board members held a special meeting right here on campus to approve the principal's decision to close the school temporarily. now, the notice of that special meeting may read it was the principal's decision, but it really was by order of the santa clara county of education which granted the school charter contingent upon background checks and fingerprinting.

down in oakland. city council issing public comment today on the possible shipment of coal through the city. protesters plan to rally outside the meeting. city council is considering coal to to the old army base for export. possible hazard from shipping and storing coal in west oakl d oakland. those would impact workers and residents. one of the wealthiest cities in the country and in palo alto business is growing quickly but the housing market is not keeping up with thing boom leaving a lot of workers with no place to live. the city council will meet tonight to talk about establishing a 50,000 square foot annual cap on commercial development in the downtown area. right now palo alto has three workers for every residence. supporters hope the limit on office development would make room for housing projects. oakland city leaders could pull the plug this week on the ambitious city plan. despite years of planning and

$35 million in research alone, the project has hit a wall for good. no one can be convinced to fund the project, which would have turned the coliseum into a huge sports shopping and housing center, creating as many as 32 jobs. now, city and county leaders are trying to keep the oakland a's and the raiders in town. a wedding ring and a urn and a yoga mat a few items collected during the coastal cleanup. the oakland tribune says volunteers across the state collected more than 341,000 pounds of trash on almost 50,000 pounds of recyclables. the coastal commission says that's equalled to nearly 14 cool buses worth of stuff cleared out of the waterways. wondering about that wedding ring being held by park rangers in hopes of finding the owner. >> what about the yoga mat? it is 5:39 right now. all right, let's move on. it's going to be a hot one across the bay area. >> right now it's already 69 degrees in livermore.

67 degrees in concord and san. here's a look at the highs. the microclimate up to 95 degrees in san jose and burlinggame and nice and much cooler there, 78 degrees. and 94 napa and antioch at 99 degrees and livermore 100 degrees. and mike's tracking some problems in the valley. what's happening there? >> we just got the update. let me step into this shot. this crash southbound 680 what we were thought were two crashes. a big rig and a motorcycle involved there and one person has died. we believe, obviously, because of circumstances, likely the person on the motorcycle and we only have the slow lane open. this will be quite some time because they have just called the coroner's crew and that takes about 90 minutes at this time of morning. out of danville in towards san ramon, very crowded in this morning's commute. 580 out of the tri-valley that could result in lighter traffic for castro valley. no good side to this crash if
