day. temperatures starting off nice and cool. we are expecting 90s to return to the map. especially for the north bay. that will be one of our hottest locations, but very comfortable conditions for the coastline. 70s there. 76 for san francisco. mid to upper 80s for the east bay down to the south bay. we'll talk more about this warming trend. but in the meantime, let's check the morning commute. >> sounds like a good day for a midday game. here's 880. a's play at 12:35. easy drive getting your way up to the bay. we do have construction in usual spots, like for example, 880 at davis, that will be a typical spot. a smooth drive through the south bay. there's one signal out at stevenson. it's going to be there likely all morning and into the afternoon. that shouldn't be a major commute issue, though. back to you. breaking news now from saudi arabia. more than 400 people dead, hundreds more injured after a stampede outside of the holy city of mecca.

more than 4,000 workers and 200 ambulances are there right now helping out with that disaster. the stampede happened during one of the last rituals of the hajj season. the annual islamic pilgrimage to mecca. that ritual is known as stoning the devil, where crowds throw stones at three pillars. hundreds have been healed in past years during the same smoich ceremony. a million-dollar home up in smoke. the home caught fire about 1:30 this morning in alamo. crews found electrical wires down and flames coming out of every door and window in the house. they say they had no choice but to just let it burn for a while. fortunately, everyone got out of the house and no one was hurt. according to zillow, the home is 3,500 square feet, it sold for $1.5 million in 2013. prayers this morning at a south bay high school, a freshman student at archbishop high school fighting for his

life. >> students will wear white in honor of their classmate. police say he was running on the sidewalk when he darted out into the street, that's when a car slammed into him. he is in critical condition this morning. the catholic school will hold a prayer vigil this morning on campus. the scene is both suspicious and scary. a green van rolling down streets near schools in the east bay with a man inside of it attempting to lure children. that van was spotted friday morning near ruby bridges elementary in alameda. 20 minutes later, berkley police got calls about two incidents also involving a van. this time, trying to kidnap kids near willard middle school. alameda police are still trying to figure out if those incidents are connected, but law enforcement agencies across the east bay want parents to keep their guard up. >> it makes you cautious. you know, keep an eye out. yeah. not just for my kids, but other kids. >> this morning, alameda police cannot confirm if the green van

attempted to kidnap anyone. it is 4:33. do you recognize this man? san jose police say he robbed a subway restaurant at gunpoint. it happened this monoon a subway near branham lane. if you have any information call san jose police. the man arrested for spraying anti-chinese graffiti in a san francisco neighborhood could find out today if he's going to stand trial. 62-year-old john skinoni is charged with vandalism and committing a hate crime. he's set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. police say he spray painted the words "no more chinese" in several sports over labor day weekend. investigators now say three bodies found near sacramento are likely connected to a missing bay area family. a couple and their 7-year-old son had not been heard from since september 11th. the family was supposed to be spending a weekend near their cabin, and now we're learning three bodies were found in the cabin which was destroyed by

testosterone or just the right amount? >> no, i enjoy it. good friends. >> weather manslaughter, so his twitter handle says. >> yes, good to be with you guys. we are looking at warm conditions today. the second day of our warming trend. second day of fall. tomorrow, temperatures will peak and then we start our cooling trend. if you want to hit the beach, enjoy the day off. if you've got to work, try to find a cool place, because it's going to be hot later on, especially for the tri-valley in the south bay. that's where temperatures will get into the 90s for some of us. right now it's clear for the most part. no fog to report of. 84 degrees for the east bay. 91 for the north bay. 95 expected there. in the south bay, we'll get up to 88. in a few places like gilroy, it will get closer to 90 degrees. in the east bay, it will be a little bit moderate because of the calm winds that we'll see all day long now. if you're headed to the beach, here's your beach forecast. 71 degrees for pacifica later on today. 77 for half-moon bay.

a little bit warmer there. santa cruz will be really nice. don't you wish it was the weekend? 79 degrees for santa cruz. winds will be light, and that's going to mean really unhealthy air quality. we have a cold front sitting off the coast. we'll see a few clouds this morning as we get a little bit of high clouds drifting this way. but as we move towards the next couple of days, watch this. the cold front starts to fall apart. we aren't going to see any showers from it, but our temperatures are going to cool off quite a bit as we head toward saturday, sunday, and monday, the start to the next workweek will be very comfortable. it will be hot for friday. temperatures near 90 degrees for the south bay. as we move towards the weekend, temperatures do cool off. by sunday, san francisco back into the 60s. let's talk to mike now and see how that drive is shaping up. >> i have a very boring shot. 280 coming up. and here's 17. and that's where there's a report of a motorcycle crash.  me show you the map where that is again. over here, very smooth drive.

that's going to continue to build the next couple of days, so it will stay warm and above average until about saturday. but today, it's still going to be warm. we're talking about temperatures near 90 degrees for san jose. morgan hill will be up to 87. palo alto 75. 76 for stoma. up in the north bay, 90 later on today. and a few mid 90s for the tri-valley. let's see how things are moving on the road. >> over toward fremont, this sign just south of that roadway, a smooth drive right there. look at your map, approaching from the north, there is a crash. the updated location on stevenson. there's a signal out. going to be all morning. so we'll remind you of that over and over as that cool drop-off time approaches. the crash in san jose not causing any slowing on 17 at 85. back to you. it might be a lost cause for home buyers. where high demand is leading to sky high rents across the bay area. renters at least feeling the

pain, too. but things could be changing in one community very soon. the mercury news reporting the mountain view city council is trying to find out a way to help the renters. hundreds of people attended meetings this month to demand action on rising rents. the city is also hearing from landlord associations which fear that the possible imposition of rent control could be coming. cal trans says fixing those troublesome ankle rods could talk $15 million and toll payers will likely be footing most of that biel. engineers say the steel rods were exposed to salt water because the contractor failed to adequately seal them. it has led to months of study and delays. officials say future repairs could drag well into the next year. too much noise. that's what many folks in atherton are complaining about right now regarding the increased air traffic at nearby san carlos airport.

the san mateo board of supervisors created a subcommittee to find a way to address the noise concerns. it comes after they wrote strongly worded letters to the atherton city council earlier in the month. the teenager who was arrested for bringing his homemade alarm clock to the school has a big lawmaker on his side. >> ahmed mohammed was arrested at his high school. his teacher thought his clock looked like a bomb. he was never charged, but congressman mike honda says the teen's civil rights were being violated. his calling the department of justice to investigate. mohammed's arrest has made him a very popular guy. he's visited google's offices in mountain view and soon he's going to head to the white house to meet with president obama. coming up, watching for a child predator in east bay. school officials warning parents about a suspicious green van lurking around elementary schools. and tragedy strikes at a south bay high school. a student hit by a car after running off the sidewalk near archbishop mitty. students hold out hope for a
