again today standing out there in the lines or whatever you have planned to do today as we take a look now. it is 58 degrees in the north bay and the peninsula is at 64 degrees with mostly clear skies. we have a little bit of fog here at the coast. today, look at the highs, 90 degrees in the south bay, 93 in the north bay, san francisco 83 degrees, east bay 87 and 98 degrees in the tri-valley. i'll let you know when the heat backs up coming up in the next forecast. let's check in with mike. we're looking eastbound, an easy light drive. westbound, your commute is easily as light. looks like everything has cleared just past the toll plaza. that's right about where it happened. we don't see any slowing past where they talked about the crash. near the toll plaza, and a smooth drive awe off of 880. the rest of the bay moving

nicely. an over night shooting involving police. investigators say they were checking on a personal welfare check when something went wrong. >> chris sanchez is live. what do we now? >> reporter: it was a welfare check that police officers were called out to the scene on monterey road to check on someone. when they arrived on monterey road, that is when the shooting happened. let's give you a little bit of a seen setter right here. according to the spokesman for sjpd, the person was north of south lake drive. this is a part of monterey road where the neighborhood is separated from the busy roadways by a retaining wall. at 6:30, the officer made contact with the person. and although the spokesman wouldn't say what prompted the officer to use deadly force, we know the person was shot once. their condition has not been released yet this morning. we can tell you that no officers

were injured in the shooting but monterey road was shut down for quite some time. police being tightlipped but say they'll release more information information after the preliminary investigation is found. this is the ninth time that police have used deadly force on a person in san jose. in five of the instances, the use of deadly force has been deadly np in fact in this particular one, we believe that the person is still alive in the hospital but we're working to get details on that for you this morning. >> chris, thank you very much. a scary scene in santa rosa, firefighters busy putting out names at a home there. the explosion happened around 10:30 last night. it forced people living nearby to evacuate. one person was taken to the hospital being treated for burns. the fire was isolated to the shed in the back yard and people were able to return home once crews were able to extinguish

the flames. investigators say they found a hash oil lab inside the shed but have not officially confirmed the cause of the fire. >> what appeared to start out as a friendly gesture turned violent. uc police say two men offered to walk a woman home on campus but then sexually assaulted her instead. happened late wednesday. the victim told police she knew one of the suspects. the incident has many students on edge. >> no close to home, just being here and know that it happened a couple of blocks down. who's to say late at night it could happen to somebody on campus as well. it's just very -- you know, it's disappointed. >> under grad students at uc berkeley are currently mandated to complete an online course about how to prevent and report sexual assault. the fate of the hayward skul superintendent unclear this morning. two members of the hayward board of trustees filed police reports

after they say the superintendent lashed out during a closed meeting last week, saying that stan dobbs were shouting, cursing and physically threatening people. the board discussed his possible dismissal in a special meeting last night. but before they met in public, several people defended dobbs. >> what have i observed? sarcasm, vail threats and just plain rudeness toward the superintendent. >> he's here serving because of the children. the school district needed one to challenge the status quo. >> it's not clear what the results of the private meeting was. it is 4:35 exactly on friday morning. people getting ready for the weekend. i know there's a lot of people on the roads getting a jump on it as well. weather going to hold up? >> it's going to be hot. maybe they're trying to get out there and get things done before the temperatures go way up into the afternoon.

and it is now 59 degrees in san francisco, 64 degrees in sunny veil and 65 degrees now in livermore. here's a look at the highs today. san martin at 97 degrees, palo alto, a high of 89 degrees and the mission district at 80 degrees. also some 90s for the north bay, upper 90s in fairfield, oakland 89 degrees and pleasanton will see a high of 97 degrees. let's see how the roads are moving. we're looking at 101, moving just fine, 680 away us northbound. we're talking about a light flow of traffic all around the bay. northbound around mcco-we had a car go off of the roadway. you might see some flashing lights but no one is blocking the drive. swoels the rest of your bay, getting across the san mateo bridge, toll plaza, ale lanes closed. no backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. you see an easy flow of traffic

across the bay area. i know a few spots in fran yesterday hit 90 degrees then we had a large temperature spread. get ready for that today. we start out at 7:00 in the morning at 58 degrees. mostly sunny skies throughout the day, some spots will once again be hitting the 80s. and then the clouds move back in later on tonight. into the next couple of days we'll have some changes heading in. but the fronts are weakening as they move in. we'll be watching the next system moving in, it won't bring us any rain unfortunately but it will be cooler into the start of next week. there's so many events going on this weekend, in pacifica, the fog fest, it will be 69 degrees, no fog on saturday. but maybe you'll get a little early on sunday. a high of 66 degrees. let's check out more events going on and i'll show you the rest of the microclimates for the weekend coming up a little

sleeps. he's continuing his historic tour in new york today. after thousands welcomed him to the city late yesterday afternoon. >> it will be a very busy and important day ahead for the pope. here's today in the day's jay gray with more. >> in all pope francis will spend just over 30 hours here in new york. but much of that time will be spent doing what he seems to enjoy most, greeting the faithful face to face. as they have on each stop of this historic tour, thousands greeted pope francis as he arrived in new york yesterday afternoon, waving flags and banners, raising their cell phones for a picture. many waiting hours just for a glimpse of the holy father. his first and only stop late thursday, st. patrick's cathedral where we took part in vespers or evening prayers. >> thank you for stopping by. >> the pope's day in new york
