campus. >> just confirmed report this is a long gun. >> the students here in oregon, they never expected it to happen to them. >> we dropped everything and ran. everyone went every which way. >> my teacher had come running in a very big panic telling all the students, twenty plus to come in the teachers room in the back and hide and shut off the lights and don't make any noise. >> the shooter gunned down but not before killing at least nine students and seriously injuring seven others. >> we have at least two heroic officers which responded into the building within minutes and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. >> assailant's father in southern california says the family is crushed. >> obviously it's been a devastating day. for me and my family. >> president obama says we have become numb to this. >> this is a political choice that we make.

this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in america. somehow this has become routine. the reporting is routine. my response here at the podium ends up being routine. the conversation in the aftermath of it. we've become numb to this. we've talked about this after columbine and blacks burg, tucson, new town, after aurora, after charleston. it cannot be this easy for someone who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun. had news organizations tally up the number of americans who have been killed through terrorist attacks in the last decade and the number of americans who have

been killed by gun violence. and post those side by side son your news reports. >> all right. so here they are for you. side by side on the left. the most recent data we have according to the cdc. more than 316,000 were killed by guns in the decade between '04 and 2013. this number includes suicides. in the middle the number of homicides committed in that time span. more than 118,000. and finally according to the global terrorism database the number of people killed by terrorism here in the u.s. in that period, 38. the 2016 presidential candidates reacted on twitter. the front runners, hillary clinton called for quote, sensible gun control measures to save lives. donald trump offered his condolences. and jeb bush said he was praying for the victims and their families. and meanwhile bernie sanders appeared on all in with chris

we've seen rain over the carolinas the last several days here. minor flooding. add joaquin to that mix and the rain it could bring -- even though not expected to make land fall, it is still going to create problems. there have already been evacuations in areas that are only serviced by ferry. all the ferries going out right now. making sure people get to high ground making sure they are not cutoff by the high waters. people preparing to make sure they have food and water enough to sustain a few days without electricity and making sure they don't have to get out in these flood waters which could be severe in several areas. a lot of concern from officials here that people won't take this seriously, seeing the track move to the east. but they warn flooding is going to be a major issue starting today and moving through the weekend. they expect to see high water, heavy rains and a lot of problems here. so joaquin may be tracking away from the coast here. but it is still going to pack a punch and cause some problems

the region. now back to the coast we have a lot of humid air with a lots of moisture available heading towards this, at the same time cooler drier air at the surface and it is just going to wring it out right over the carolinas the next couple of days. flood watches from d.c. all the way down to georgia. we're expecting upwards of over a foot of rain in some areas. charleston, maybe 15 inches for you. columbia, same. that's why the bull's eye. we really got to target southern carolina, north georgia and all of south carolina. and horrible coastalthern calif california in the mount nous areas. and beautiful weather continuing throughout much of the rockies
