jose you can see a little bit of clear skies. it is foggy everywhere. the fog will lift by 9:00. we have a dense fog advisory. after that the skies will clear. 71 for san francisco. it will be warm for inland valleys. it gets warmer tomorrow. in fact, a risk for strong rip currents this weekend. we'll talk more about that and some rain in our forecast. >> that warm weather will get people to the beach. things to look out for the dangers there. we look forward to the full forecast. if you are planning on heading to san francisco, you won't have to worry about the fog a little later. fleet week celebrations are still going on and president obama is in san francisco. in a few hours he'll take the stage with rapper kanye west for a fundraiser. it starts at 10:00 this morning at san francisco's warfield theater. attendees shelled out between

$250 and $10,000 for the vip experience. the president flew into the city last night and kicked off the fund raising weekend with a private round table dinner. all the money raised will go to the democratic national convention. one protest organizer says obama should focus on helping the underprivileged instead. >> 80% of homeless children are african-american children. and the problem is not being dealt with in an aggressive way. >> after the concert, the commander in chief is jetting down to los angeles for three more fund raisers and another private concert. the bay area is always a hot spot for political fund raisers. presidential hopeful hillary clinton announced plans to visit lose altoes last month. one for youtube and another for the genetics company 23 and me. tickets to that event cost

between $500 and $2,700. to a story of a possible mass shooting plot foiled. hercules please say a high school student was planning to shoot up the school as revenge for being bullied. the 15-year-old high school student was arrested thursday. a school employee says he heard the teen tell another student about his plans. the student's home was searched and they found documents confirming the threat. now a story that continues to unfold as each hour goes by. one of the three drifters connected to two bay area killings. and they're now officially charged with murder. the murin county announced the charges. all three suspects were caught in oregon are expected to be exrudited to the bay area. they were charged for one of two murders. the murder of a 67-year-old in fairfax on monday. the three suspects are also linked in the shooting death of

a 23-year-old canadian back packer. her body was found at golden gate park last saturday morning. investigators say the gun used in both crimes was stolen from a car near fisherman's wharf last monthing. >> the vehicle owner believed he locked his vehicle. he did not and the vehicle was unlocked. he had the weapon in his vehicle. >> investigators say the motive for the killings was robbery. he's up and in good spirits. it's been two days since sacramento hero spencer stone was stabbed. there's word from uc davis he's doing much better this morning. doctors upgraded his condition from serious to fair. stone was stabbed three times in the torso thursday during a fight outside a bar in sacramento. a woman who was with him was also hurt but not seriously. police are looking for the suspects. just two months ago. stone was stabbed while taking

it down a possible attack in france. california now has laws to regulate the medical marijuana industry. governor brown signed a trio of bills. it could put an end to federal raids on dispensaries. growers and retailers will nee licenses. local governments can continue to ban or tax pot businesses. marijuana will now be designated as an agriculture product and will have to follow water laws. the new laws could be a preemptive move. it's likely an initiative to legalize pot could be on the ballot next year. in washington all eyes are on paul ryan. will he agree to be speaker of the house? ryan's new answer is maybe. we have the story. >> reporter: with house republicans begging paul ryan to be speaker, he told colleagues

app apple giant. >> this is what he was like, it's up to you to judge did he have to be that way. and the greatness of what he did is in the movie too. >> it's intense and kind of captured you from the beginning and stuck with it the whole time. >> i don't think it demonized him. i don't think it glorified him. it was something in between. >> reporter: cheryl herd, nbc bay area news. they're pretty to look atment could it be a sign of what's to come. thousands of red crabs are washing up in northern california. scientists say el nino might be to blame. during suchworthy events warm water moves north and that might be pushing the crabs. the red tuna crabs are native to san diego and mexico. el nino is on our minds these days. i hear from experts like you if we're talking about rain that's way in the future. >> our rain season has already started but doesn't get going until january.

>> fog season? >> that's here. that's year round. that would be something to see especially if you're headed to the beach. if you're headed to the beach later on this afternoon, heads up we have a risk for strong rip wurn currents. it is going to be choppy in the waters. rip currents from point rays to santa cruz and monterey, some of the south western facing beaches. if you're headed to the beach, make sure you take it easy. the wave heights will be high, up to seven to ten feet. you can see the fog is extensive across the bay area with the exception of the south bay over downtown san jose. it's dense across the peninsula, east bay and san francisco this morning, even for the north bay pretty bad. the dense fog advisory will expire at 9:00. after that we are expecting conditions to improve. look at our highs, it will be warm, 86 with the south bay. 86 for north bay. the inner bay will see temperatures ranging from 70s to

80s. the trivalley will have temperatures near 90. doing any traveling across the state, tyler, 75. nice and toasty, look at la, 92 there. even palm strinprungs 100. high pressure has been the story of our life. we've been talking about clear skies, as rain season starts to get going the storm systems are starting to dive further south. this off the coast not going to bring us shower activity but this will change things up as we head towards the next couple of days. it moves ashore, but there will be a trough that develops across the open waters. that's going to lead us to another chance of rain as we head towards the upcoming week. that will move in by thursday. in the meantime, it's all about the hot weather and all about fleet week. you can still get out and see things this weekend. saturday sunday and monday, we're talking about temperatures in the low 70s. the air show starts at 12:30. temperatures will be night 70.

talked to us. today in the bay peggy bunker has more on their painful and compelling stories. >> it was 1982. i was 24. i was a bartender in reno where he performed. >> reporter: janice baker of petaluma is one of the women in the dateline story and says joining together with other cosby accusers gives her strength. on wednesday a los angeles judge ruled a lawsuit filed by judith huth could proceed. >> i read an article about judith huth. i saw that she was still within the statute of limitations. so i thought if i came forward, i might be able to help her. >> reporter: a massachusetts judge refused to throw out a libel lawsuit. many accusers would like to see the statute of limitations change in california. especially when drugs are used.

>> i know i was drugged. >> very quickly the room started spinning. >> i was holding my head. because i didn't know what was happening. that what was testifying. >> reporter: sexual assaults where drugs are used on victims don't qualify as aggravated assaults. if they did, victims would be able to sue years after the crime was committed. >> under california law, if the allegation is aggravated sexual assault, meaning a weapon is used, there is no statute of limitations. so the prosecutor, district attorney with bring a charge regardless of how old it is. >> reporter: patricia says she was assaulted twice. >> rape was something that happened in an alley at knife or gunpoint. >> reporter: bill cosby has not been charged with a crime. his attorneys say the number of allegations does not make them true. his attorneys have repeatedly

legislation, today's visit was strictly about consoling the families and not about politics. new this morning, uber is failing its female passengers. according to a new lawsuit. the lawsuit was filed on behalf of two women who were allegedly sexually assaulted byiber drivers. they're demanding safety changes. the can't encourages women to call uber as a safe way home h. claimed uber does a poor job of doing background checks on drivers which could have prevented assaults. uber is not commenting on the lawsuit. a small victory for san francisco tenants. it will be harder to evict people for minor lease violations. landlords used to be able to kick out renters for hanging out clothes to dry. not anymore. the law passed late friday after the mayor neither signed or vetoed the legislation brought forth by the board of supervisors. business owners outraged in east san jose say a vta

construction project has put them out of business. and they're wondering if things would have been different if they were in a more upscale part of the city. the vta is adding express bus lanes. a multitude of delays have slowed the project to a crawl. business owners took their complaints to a community meeting last night. we have the story you'll see only on nbc bay area. >> reporter: it's always festive at the western wear shop. it's where people used to flock to buy their favorite boots or cowboy hats. used to because the customers have effectively stopped coming. >> i get upset. >> reporter: because outside his store. this is all he's seen for months. lane closures and construction cones with nobody doing any work. vta is building an express bus lane along the corridor. it had to fire the contractor, forcing the project to be

delayed. possibly by a year. >> i don't know what's going on. i mean, we losing a lot of clients, a lot of business. if this construction took place, this has been bad for everybody. >> reporter: a 40% drop in business says hav area, a 30% drop next door where they'd had to lay off good employees. >> vta has been sincere in an apology with the community. >> reporter: vta since this letter to merchants, reiterating that apology. the agency continues to say the project when completed will be a great community investment. >> it provides fast, frequent service. it's going to be a great amenity for that community. >> reporter: it won't be complete until the end of next year. that makes the agency's policy ring hollow who insist this sort of delay would never be tolerated in more affluent parts of the country. >> this is a hispanic community. we do the same thing everybody

south western facing beaches. you notice the winds anywhere from 20 to 30 miles per hour and the wave heights will be anywhere from seven to ten feet. take it easy if you're headed to the beach. it will be a great day to enjoy the water. never turn your back on the water. south bay recollelooking at sun. you can see where the fog is dense, the peninsula. the east bay looking pretty bad as well. san francisco fogged in from the golden gate bridge downtown. and the north bay looking at temperatures in the 50s. al later on this afternoon we will see a bright day. 71 for san francisco today. 82 for east bay and 86 for the north bay. the rest of the state, sunshine for all of us today, pretty warm across southern california. looking 92 for la. 87 for santa barbara. now we have a storm system sitting off the coast line. t this won't bring us rain activity just yet.

st. jude's hospital. today the founders are joining us now to tell us about the event, all about the cool stuff. but, first, i wanted to get into the most important thing here. not the guitars, not the pictures, but the picture in the corner. tell us about julian. >> julian is our first son. he was born in 2005 and unfortunately he had a severe disease and we lost him after two days. his legacy lives on through the julian rock memorial. this is our fifth annual. our goal is to raise awareness to catastrophic pediatric diseases and raise money so other families don't have to suffer the way we did. >> st. jude does amazing stuff. i want to hear why you chose them. julian only survived two days, there wasn't a chance for the hospital to help them. why did you choose them? >> we chose st. jude because they never turn a child away

fremont... and now we have proof. 12-thousand year old "ice age here's a line i never thought i'd read. wild camels once roamed fremont. 12,000-year-old fossils were discovered three years ago. they were found when pg&e were upgrading a water line. the fossils are going on display on the children's natural history museum. a bison, 11,000 years ago, bison were much bigger than they are today. >> how many times is a child able to say this is a fossil that came from three miles up the road in the area that represents this time period in the history of this place. it's exciting. >> the fossils were found along the fault line, experts believe the bones were brought closer to the surface during a magnitude 7

quake in 1868. high schools are gearing up for homecoming festivities. one decided to go all out with a tom hanks' float. >> hi, everybody? >> the oscar winner filmed that special video for the central valley school. students impressed the oscar winner by channelling their inner forest gump. they had floats based on toy story and big. they were acstatic the hollywood star took the time to compliment the efforts. >> he sent us a personal video from on set of his own movie. >> he also sent the school a signed type writer. to which the kids said what's a type writer. >> he's a legend. >> he seems to be as nice in real life.
