president obama. russian president vladimir putin spent sunday defending his country's military intervention in syria's civil war. in a "60 minutes" interview, president obama revealed the u.s. had, quote, pretty good intelligence of russia's intn intenti intentions, even before the leaders met last month. he said the expanded role for russia doesn't equate to good international leadership. >> today, rather than being able to count on their support and maintain the base they had in syria, which they've had for a long time, mr. putin is now devoting his own troops, his own military, just to barely hold together, by a thread, his sole ally. >> he's challenging your leadership, mr. president. he's challenging your leadership. >> steve, i've got to tell you, if you think that running your economy into the ground and having to send troops in in order to prop up your only ally

special committee. a select committee. what are her numbers today? >> reporter: after criticism for that remark, mccarthy withdrew his name from the bid to become speaker of the house. amid the chaos, a push to recruit congressman paul ryan. even some republican hard liners said they'll support him. >> i think he'd be a wonderful speaker, like i thought he'd be a great vice president or president. >> that was nbc's kristen welker. southwest airlines is warning passengers they could be in for another day of huge delays and massive lines due to, quote, technical issues, which already delayed hundreds of flights yesterday. one passenger in las vegas described the hour long lines as pure hell. workers at lax handed out water to those waiting. the technical glitch affecting the mobile app and centers force workers to manually enter

tickets. southwest said passengers should arrive two hours early and precipitation border passes beforehand. a waterspout was caught on camera as it tore through a u.s. postal service tractor trailer in florida yesterday morning. the truck was passing over a bridge near tampa when the water sprout flipped it over and sent debris into the bay. the driver was not injured. waterspouts are essentially tornadoes over the water and rarely cause damage on shore. our meteorologist has your forecast. >> hot day for much of the country. also a quiet day for most. that's the good news. no major weather problems on this columbus day. look at the heat we're expecting, once again. temperatures in the 90s for las angele angeles. temperatures running 15 degrees above average. that stretches to texas, as well. temperatures in the 90s. san antonio and dallas, 94 degrees.

turkey is mourning today after the country's deadliest attack in years. according to turkish government, 97 people were killed and 245 were injured in ankara when two suicide bombers attacked a peace rally over the weekend. no one claimed responsibility. turkish authorities say kurdish rebels or isis militants are to be suspected. >> it's more likely it's isis or isis-related forces in turkey. unfortunately, it's not an unexpected event. >> yesterday, pope francis led a silent prayer in the vatican for the victims of the deadly blast. in afghanistan, five were killed and five others wounded in a helicopter crash on sunday.
