north bay and south bay and peninsula and south bay 80 degrees and san francisco up to 78 degrees and 90s in the tri-valley today. i'll detail that and what to expect as we head into the week coming up. let's check in now with mike checking the roads. >> no drama in the tri-valley and no major crashes around the bay. as we zoom out we see green where you see the yellows just down to 60 miles per hour. we'll take you for a quick look at the bay bridge and light flow of traffic and columbus holiday for some schools and businesses we plight might see lighter traffic. travel nightmare not over yet. southwest airlines is warning people to be ready for a second straight day of delays. >> kris sanchez and, kris, this computer glitch having a trickle effect even though they got this thing fixed, right? >> right now we walked in and looked at the little self-check kiosk and they say they are unavailable because the flights

aren't going off yet, but already the flight board is showing delays. the advice from southwest, get here at least two hours early. might want to even give yourself more wiggle time. some nice vendors inside. passengers had it the best, their delays less than at oakland and san francisco. add to the frustration, a lot of folks told us over the weekend they didn't get a lot of information about the reason why they were delayed. there was a computer glitch that shut down the southwest airlines website and the ticket centers and everything went old school. passengers and airline workers going manual routes. take a look at the effect down in l.a. where the traffic around the airport was impacted for miles. here are some of the travelers arriving into the bay area this weekend. >> coming from seattle it is about one hour. >> about 45-minute delay. >> so, down at l.a.x., southwest tried to appease passengers with

some pizza. between that and the airline's long history of good customer service, some passengers were willing to cut them a little bit of slack but that good will may not last if the delays continue today. to reiterate, the airline says get here at least two hours early. if you can print your boarding pass at home, you should definitely do that. as soon as you get here print your ticket for your baggage and try to do everything as quickly as possible. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." breaking news we brought you last night, a happy ending for two boys in castro valley. they disappeared yesterday afternoon from old dublin road late last night officer os found them safe at their father's house. no word on where they had been all that time. a plane that crashed over the weekend in south lake tahoe was registered to a man from the bay area, but this morning investigators have yet to identify the victims of that crash. two people are dead and identifying them has not been easy.

investigators say it will require dental records. the single engine beach craft bonanza plane crash under to a wooded housing development saturday night. the plane was registered to 73-year-old conrad of oakley. so far, investigators are not saying if he was onboard. >> do you think he may have rented the aircraft to someone else? >> no. i'm sure no. >> why not? >> because he don't like it that nobody with his plane. he was the pilot. >> chemical engineer and got some smarts upstairs and didn't talk about it too much. >> witnesses say the plane crashed in windy conditions shortly after takeoff from lake tahoe airport near highway 50. more details, a bay area play write saw the crash as it happened. in the south lake tahoe area to see one of his planes perform at a festival. just settled in when the plane crashed nearby. >> the whole house sort of jolted and it felt like an

earthquake and it didn't sound like an earthquake. >> the two went outside and realized it was actually a plane crash. it was only about ten feet from the house and the flames were moving quickly. the two were able to get to safety until firefighters arrived. 4:35. a lot of questions this morning after a bicycle oest was hit and killed by a muni bus in san francisco yesterday afternoon. these are photos from that scene. the crash happened on market near the montgomery street b.a.r.t. station. the bicyclist was between two buses when he lost his balance and he fell. he was crushed by one of the bus tires. police are investigating who is at fault because it's not clear the buses were supposed to be moving at the time. they're looking at surveillance video and reviewing witness statements. it is 4:35 right now and happening today, expect to see lots of officers on the streets of santa rosa, all part of a motorcycle safety enforcement operation. they'll be out watching for pedestrians and bicyclists. officers on duty throughout santa rosa focusing on areas with high numbers of accidents. if you're watching right now, you can say one thing, that

rolling on across. so, obviously, they have to work on this columbus day. and it's nice and cool outside. we are starting out with mostly clear skies, it's 50 degrees in the north bay. in the south bay 58 degrees. a look at those highs today. yes t will be hot. mainly some upper 80s across most of the bay area and lower 80s in the east bay and peninsula and tri-valley highs today up to 93 degrees in san francisco. a high of 78 can grdegrees and much of a wind to give you some relief. our winds coming in from the north, not much of an onshore flow. more of a land breeze blowing off shore throughout the day and our winds only at about maybe up to ten miles an hour throughout the afternoon. so, a look at all the microclimates, once again. up to 89 degrees in los gastos and foster city and embarcadero at 78 degrees and 90 in santa rosa and brentville and danville up to 91 degrees. now, we are dealing with some high heat because of high

pressure. just to the east of us, once again, keeping us from getting an ocean breeze. into the next couple of days, we will have highs into the 70s along the coast and 90s inland. but look at how hose temperatures shift. we will have highs over 100 degrees tomorrow. but the good news is that tracking a chance of rain. one for wednesday, not really being picked up on the computer models and check out what happened on saturday. i know, it's going to be the weekend and watching a chance, a pretty good chance of some rain moving in, at least at this point it lookz like a good chance. we'll keep you up to date on that. mike takes you to oakland. >> driving on the road there, folks. going north past the high street and a good flow of traffic. let's look at your map and show a nice nothingness right here as far as incidents for 880 and not even the early start for ant ya antioch and this construction sign. this construction approaching

incidents. no problems for the bay bridge with a live look just like this. a smooth, easy, light drive and off to the right slowing down a tad bit. a couple cars waiting. if you live in the east bay and notice that your water tastes slightly different this morning, it's fine. still clean water. the san francisco public utilities commission is looking at some changes to the regional water system and they're testing out an aqua duct that hasn't been used in 30 years. now, crews are still making sure it works in case we have another dry year. the test will last until wednesday. the water entirely safe to drink. but chilling it might cut down on the odor or the taste. it's 4:55 right now. it was a feeding frenzy this weekend in the san francisco bay. do want to warn you the video we're about to show you may be disturbing to watch. some visitors of alcatraz caught what appears to be a white shark at lunchtime. we're told it happened about noon saturday and the shark was

eating a seal. whi white sharks can occasionally be seen in the bay, along with a lot of swimmers. but maybe the big alcatraz swim people do, fortunately, no one was hurt. hundreds of thousands of fossils getting new life in the east bay. they have been hidden for most of the century right under the berkeley bell tower. only a few select people have seen what was a restricted area and mammoth tusks and they say the fossils are key to understanding the california ice age some 30,000 years ago. >> we had camel in california and mammals and giant saber-tooth cats. we had dire wolf. >> they are removed from the tower and brought out and cleaned and analyzed. >> experts say the bones could reveal why these animals became extinct and how humans and climate change played a part.
