c kari hall. >> as we start out now, it's mostly clear. these temperatures are very warm to start out the morning in the south bay, but cooler in the north bay. it's 58 degrees. today's forecast brings it down from the 90s into the upper 80s. i guess that's an improvement. 85 degrees in the east bay and the tri-valley up to 93 dries, san francisco, 77. rain chances in the forecast. let's check in with mike. how is the bridge looking this morning? >> cooler like your forecast is talking about. we'll welcome back the fog. not a lot of traffic and great viewing. looks like we'll get off this shot and show you the maps coming across from the north. watch for the fog, vice president had that for a while. approach to the bay bridge is fine, but construction for 580 around 24 at west grand, we'll watch as that clears over the next half hour. a minor crash near the san mateo

bridge. i'll check 92 around the toll plaza area. you a bigger crash, a bigger issue in the south bay. >> an overnight crash in san jose that killed two and critically injured two others. it happened off east santa clara street and 22nd late last night. crews stayed on the scene well into this morning investigating. >> tod"today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live from the scene. it looks like a sprawling scene behind you. >> i just saw one of the vehicles being towed away on the flatbed truck. the only thing recognizable about that car was the color. it was silver. the scene is still out here. you can see the crime scene tape. this is santa clara street between 21st -- south 21st and south 24th. traffic still closed in one direction. if you look far behind me, you can see the orange cones the investigators have out here on the scene. they are trying to figure out how it is that this crash happened.

still debris on the roadway, and we also see some tarps. we do know two people died. we're getting reports that a third may have succumb to injuries. we know two other people were transported to the hospital in pretty bad shape. witnesses out here told crews last night it appeared it was a street race, and i can tell you that driving down just one block over, we saw plenty of skid marks. so we know this is a night flat spot where people could gain quite a bit of speed if they were inclined to do some street racing. we are waiting for the spokesperson for the san jose police department to arrive out here on scene. we know the traffic investigators have been out here investigating since this crash happened around 11:00 last night. we are working to get more details for you. we're going to step away and talk to police right now. we'll have more for you in the next 30 minutes. kris sanchez torques day in the bay. >> kris, thank you very much. some of the largest bay area transit agencies back up and running. good news. this comes after a day of deadly

crashes involving four trains in two hours. a perp was hit by a vta train around 4:30 yesterday. that train was heading northbound when it struck the individual south of the fruit dale station. the tracks were closed for nearly two hours. in san bruno, a second deadly encounter, this time involving a b.a.r.t. train at the san bruno station. it shut down that station for almost two hours, causing major delays to trains headed to the east bay and sfo. >> at 4:34, also last night, two more crashes, an amtrak crash happened at santa clara and agnew road. the driver of the car did suffer injuries. but expected to be okay. another pedestrian hit at san mateo caltrain station. the victim was alive when rescued. they were rushed to the hospital. we don't know that perp's

condition right now. >> in just a few hours from now, the three drifters accused in two bay area deadly shootings will face a judge for the first time since the cooling. more son lampley, the one on the right, as the man who actually pulled the trigger. still all three could be looking at the death penalty. they're suspected of killing canadian tourist audrey carrie and instructor steve last week. they gathered at a small shrine at a fairfax trail where he was shot. >> at least now we know who did it, even though it's awful, and they were so lost to do something like that. at least we have the comfort of knowing there's not a murderer running around somewhere. >> police say the same caliber gun was used in both shootings. a controversial plan to put violent inmates on the front lines of california fires is no more because of safety concerns. california is still looking for

ways to increase the pool for potential firefighters. the state wants to expand its program to include inmates who have up to seven years left on their sentences, that's instead of the current five years. currently about 3800 inmates help professional firefighters in california. >> you just said the word pool, i believe. that's where most people are looking to find a spot right now or this week because the heat has been quite koes stay. kari, will it continue? >> we reached the peak of the heat yesterday. we're heading in the right direction. also turning our attention to the swirl of clouds that will spread clouds and higher humidity into the bay area today, may even spark a few isolated storms especially in the south bay and along the coast. highs today will still be very warm, up to 86 degrees. burlingame, 79 degrees. in the upper 70s in san francisco. 90 in napa.

sk >> you may have wondered, what is that? also, what is this stuff falling from the sky as we go through the next couple days. we do have rain in the forecast. let's take a look at what we're seeing now as we take a live look from san francisco toward the bay bridge. it will be another warm day, but not as warm as yesterday. we are heading in the right direction. also showing something, haven't seen a lot lately, swirl of clouds, some rain moving in from southern california. as you can see, there's not a lot of it. just mostly some spotty showers in the mix. that's what we can see as we go into this afternoon, into early tomorrow. our temperatures are very warm to start out the day in the east bay. it is 68 degrees and it is 58 degrees in napa. san francisco, 63 degrees. we will have a little more cloud cover. this is what the radar and satellite could look like. here we are at noon.

we're seeing breaks in the clouds, still coastal fog. we start to see green popping up in parts of the inner bay and the south bay as well. some spotty showers will be possible all across the bay area. this is what our high resolution computer model is picking up on, the possibility of rain also in the north bay later this evening. we may see this very spotty, so not everyone will see the rain, but it is a definite improvement over the high heat we had yesterday and the day before, but it will still be a warm day until we start to see those showers moving in, mostly highs in the 80s and low 90s, and mid 90s still likely in the tri-valley. as we head into the weekend, we'll have another chance of rain on saturday, but even that looks like it's continuing to fizzle ourt with the possibility of very light rain measurements, up to maybe .10 inch in the north bay in ukiah. we'll keep you updated with the forecast. now mike is keeping you updated on what your commute looks like.

unmanned drones could interfere with commercial flights is being put into focus by law enforcement today. a new task force made up of members from the fbi and fa gathering at miami international airport. officials say just last month a jetblue pilot making his approach to land in south florida reported seeing an unmanned aircraft at 5,000 feet which aviation experts say is extremely high for a drone. the faa says from january to august of this year, there were 764 encounters between drones and manned aircraft. >> we need to actually come together and be able to work in a collaborated effort to minimize any risk factor that's out there. >> the task force is expected to present new drone regulations by the end of the year. new this morning, uber is the latest company to link to the amber alert child abduction system. uber says its drivers will receive geographically targeted

information whenever an amber alert is issued. many major tech companies already partner with the amber alert system including apple, google and facebook. the flight delays will keep coming. that's the warning from the union representing air traffic controllers. union leaders say the federal aviation administration failed to hire enough controllers for the last five years. now they say air traffic is increasing at a time when more controllers are retiring. controllers at some cities have been working six-day weeks for years. the peace corps passed a peak not seen in decades. the international service group says the number of applications this year reached its highest number in 40 years. 23,000 applications which is a 32% surge over just a year ago. president kennedy helped found the peace corps back in 1961. coming up, former nba player and reality television show star lamar odom rushed to a nevada hospital overnight, found

tomorrow. we'll have another chance on saturday and temperatures that will be much more comfortable heading into the end of the weekend. by sunday highs will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s all across the bay. let's check in with mike with a live look at traffic. >> tri-valley heat in the 90s. look at the flashing lights behind me, just larger loads. those trucks right there they have a wider load on the back of their truck, just flashing lights to warn folks. in the south bay, no surprises. light volume north 101, 280/680 across the top. coming across the golden gate bridge you might have lower clouds, fog impeding your view of the roadway just a tiny bit. light flow of traffic and no problems from the north bay into or out of san francisco. back to you. nearly 24 hours later officers in the south bay still looking for a hit-and-run driver. police believe this man was driving the car that struck and killed a 60-year-old man in san

jose yesterday. this screen shot is taken from surveillance video from a nearby bakery. take a good look there. employees say a suspect bought a pastry roughly 30 minutes before the crash. police say the suspect was driving this truck, a white full-sized pickup with tipted windows, black rims and a loud exhaust. former nba and reality television star lamb more odom is fighting for his life this morning. he was found unconscious at a brothel yesterday afternoon. two people reportedly found him passed out at the love ranch, about 70 miles outside of las vegas. paramedics were able to stabilize him before rushing him to the hospital. no update on his condition so far. a plane crash set two mobile homes on fire in florida. someone caught this entire aftermath on their cell phone. the plane came falling out of

it was so hot yesterday afternoon, just unbearable out there. as we go into today, we will start out with warm temperatures and still a very warm afternoon. talking upper 80s in the north bay and the south bay. the peninsula and south bay will be 84 to 85 degrees, and very warm in san francisco, too. we're tracking a couple of storm chances in the forecast. i'll detail that coming up. let's check in with mike. how is it looking in the east bay? >> very easy. i want to show folks oakland our view southbound toward 98. we don't see slowing, but a crew in san leandro to the south. no drama from 580. this one incident is 680 northbound of highway 4. reports of smoke and maybe flames with a truck. it's counter commute. it could be a distraction. send it back to you.
