clouds moving in as we go through the rest of the morning and then sunshine again this afternoon. a look at those temperatures now, mostly in the 50s all across the bay, starting out the morning, and highs reaching into the 80s. just a couple of degrees lower than yesterday with more clouds being in late in san francisco and expect a high of 75 degrees. heading into the weekend, some rain possible for the north bay, i will detail that in a few minutes. mike has a heads up for the bay bridge. >> that's right. we are looking over here, the cash lanes are unusually backed up. now, it looks like on either side maybe one cash lane isn't open yet, but we will track that over the next half hour when we should see everything back to normal. no speed sensor issues as you are approaching, just typical road crews, one crash north heading away from the bridge eastbound 80, highway 4 in hercules, a car is on its side, no real slowing, but we will track that. the rest of the bay is just fine. we do begin with breaking

news. chaos in sweden just hours ago, a masked man reportedly armed with a soared attacked several people inside of a school before he was shot by police. we have confirmed from the hospital that one teacher is dead and two students in surgery with serious cuts. students are 11 and 15 years old. the suspect is also in surgery. police say he is in his 20s and was armed with more than one weapon. the school has around 400 students ranging from preschool to high school. more breaking news now. a terrifying night for two people in the east bay, they interrupt add burglary in progress at their home in san lorenzo, then it led to a fight and stabbing. >> it happened after midnight near interstate 880. "today in the bay" bob redell live in san lorenzo. deputies stumbled across quite a scene. >> reporter: you are correct, laura and sam. the aeld county sheriff's office told us they found 200 mature

pot plants in this home. the detectives just received a search warrant so they can legally go back inside and conduct an investigation into whether or not that grow is legal or illegal. deputies made this discovery while responding to a burglary at this home around midnight. two people who lived here were returning home when they found two other people that had broken inside, there was some sort of fight, one of the suspects might have been stabbed, both burglars ended up running down the street and took off in a car. deputies did find a mature pot planned in the entryway with blood on the ground, then a couple hundred more plants downstairs. law enforcement is interviewing the residents who live here and still are looking for the suspects. they believe the burglary is somehow related to that marijuana grow. reporting in san lorenzo, bob redell, "today in the bay." it is 4:33. five girls in the last month, that's how many were nearly kidnapped in berkeley. now this disturbing pattern has parents on alert and more officers patrolling the area.

someone tried to kidnap a girl just before 6:00 sunday night at college and webster. that's where police say a man approached a girl and tried to get her into his van. 15 minutes later it happened again in the same area to three other girls and it apparently also happened last month near willard mills school on telegraph avenue. police are looking for a black full sized cargo van that does not have any side or rear windows. officers believe the suspect is a hispanic man in his late 20s or early 30s with dark hair and a scruffy face. a crash overseas hits close to home. a local family am mourning following a deadly fighter jet crash in england. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us now. kris, his family still too distraught to talk to us understandably. some of the people who lived in his military complex housing

are. >> we always like to respect the privacy of the families within they ask for it. the people who knew this pilot are shocked that he is gone because he was supposed to be coming home. tie lot taj sareen was heading back to the air corps base in san diego from the persian gulf, was supposed to be back home in pills borrow in weekend. he lived in hillsborough where he grew up, he attended the university of san francisco where he double ma jord in political science and economics, also played tennis at usf. the apartment complex where he lived in san diego, that's where neighbors were telling us how shocked they are that he survived six months in duty in the persian gulf and bay ran only to die on the way home. >> super person. would give you the shirt off his back, very nice, a pleasant, great person. i'm devastated that he is not here tonight. >> reporter: the crash is under investigation and the site where that hornet fighter jet crashed in england is under guard.

we do know that major sareen ejected from the f-18-c jet but did not survive. though that fighter jet crashed near home, no one on the ground was hurt. sam and laura. >> so tragic. >> especially because you talk about the sacrifice that our members of our armed services make on behalf of our country. this is not the way parents prepare themselves for possible tragedy and envision it ever happening. very difficult. it is 4:36. we mentioned earlier as you head out the door this morning you can feel that chill in the area, it's nice. >> kind of like a jekyll and hyde thing going on here. >> you're right. by midday it's warm. >> yeah, because, yeah, we start out with the cool temperatures during the morning hours and then it just ramps up as we go into late morning. so we will be just like that. what we've seen recently, cool mornings and very warm afternoons. 54 degrees in oakland, 56 degrees in sunnyvale and san jose and highs today back into the 80s in the south bay, but it will be a couple of degrees lower in some spots.

to a san jose restaurant it's been a couple of days now since we first reported it. a shigella outbreak still growing. >> health officials in san mateo and santa cruz counties say they are also investigating reports of shigella cases. the majority of people who got sick weight at mariscos san juan restaurant number 3 in san jose. shigella is very con taj yous and can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain. we spoke to one person sickened

in that outbreak. he and his lawyer have filed a lawsuit against the restaurant owner >> it is reasonable after the amount of physical suffering i have gone through to have some kind of compensation. >> another reported victim also filed a lawsuit. the downtown mariscos location still close this had morning. the health department says all employees vsh detected and will need to be cleared from a doctor before going back to work. in the south bay a san jose supermarket back open this morning after being shut down for rodents. the health department recently found an infestation inside the mi pueblo market. the santa clara county health department sent inspectors back to the supermarket and found that those problems were fixed and the supermarket was declared good to go and is reopened. >> up in smoke, how the bay area is leading the nation attempt to go improve air quality but at the same time leaving some people out in the cold.

niners at candlestick. >> let's continue this win streak from the weekend. let's take a live look at levi stadium. we are going to fill that up this afternoon and the seahawks coming into town, but it's going to be perfect weather today for some football. a little bit warm, though, i'm thinking like early in the season, not late football season weather as we take a live look at the current temperature, it is 57 degrees in livermore, san francisco at 56 degrees and 50 in napa. we don't have much of a wind today, it is coming in, though, it's blowing offshore, so no cool breeze to help make us feel nor comfortable and the winds at 5 to 10 miles an hour, may get a little more breezy later on this evening. expect a high in san jose up to 82 degrees, san mateo 76, embarcadero at 75 degrees and 83 degrees in napa, while oakland tops out at 77. alamo 84 degrees today.

a lot of sun and we are kpengting a few more clouds later on this evening. heading into the weekend we're looking ahead for next chance of rain. it won't be until sunday. it looks like sunday afternoon with the next cold front moving in, it could bring in a slight chance of rain for the north bay. we'll see how far south that makes it as the computer models don't bring it much into the bay area. we're also looking ahead to the tropics with hurricane olaf now with wind speeds of 120 miles an hour. now, over the next couple of days this will be moving over cooler water and then curving to the northeast. and then a system that will be here by the middle of next week could bring in some more of that tropical moisture. so i will get you up to date on that. i will clear my throat here. in a little bit. i will send it to you, mike. >> it's a little tough for all of us in the morning. these folks still holding up, but the right approach is just fine, it's the left approach to the bay bridge that still has a

earnings from amazon, mcdonald's and many more. all of the major averages on pace to break their three-week streak. the dow falling 39 points tuesday to 17 168, the knack dak down 40 to 4840. youtube is launching an ad free subscription service for $9.99 subscribers will be able to save videos to watch off line and gain access to new an original shows and movies. youtube red users get access to google play music but music where users can build a play list of songs. and the internal revenue service will now recognize same-sex marriages nationwide for tax purposes, even if marriages took place in states that still have not legalized them. the irs announced draft regulations that will interpret the term husband and wife to include same-sex spouses. this comes after the supreme court's landmark ruling in june

legalizing same-sex marriages. the new rules will apply to any federal tax provision, filing is that tut and standard deductions. sam and laura, back over to you. >> part of that historic ruling there. thank you very much. 4449. wood burning stoves and fireplaces will soon be a thing of the past. the bay area is the first region in the nation to ban such devices in new construction. bay area air quality management district says the fine particles from wood burning fireplace right side one of the biggest health threats during winter. officials say no burn days introduced back in 2008 did not do enough to clear the air. >> particulate matter is our largest wintertime air pollution problem and although we've made gains at reducing the par tick particular matter, we still see high levels and many days in the winter months when we exceed the federal health standard. >> if you already have a wood burning fireplace and are planning to sell your home you will need to disclose the hazard

to buyers. the new rule goes into effect over of next year. not in my backyard even if it means more homes in the bay area. that's how some people feel in walnut creek as a new housing project is closer to becoming a reality. dozens of people flooded the city council meeting to discuss increased traffic, less open space and the potential for flooding. now, at issue here a site along tice valley boulevard. right now that land is owned by a jewish community center that is selling five acres of its property. the new developers wants to build 53 homes, create bike lanes and add some parking. they also want to demolish a nursery and community center that's been empty for years, but many say the site is not ready for that kind of development. >> it was supposed to have been a pipe put in down meadow road to at least put us to the 25-year flood line. >> we are going to be creating a neighborhood where there wasn't a neighborhood before and people will be walking and biking and

enjoining the beautiful lush landscaping. >> the next meeting to discuss that issue is going to take place next month. that's when a full committee is going to talk about the environmental impact of the project. as we've been telling you for some time now housing prices are being blamed for the teacher shortage across the bay area. san francisco mayor ed lee said he has a plan time prove the situation. it aims to provide affordable housing by 2020. the plan includes building housing specifically for teachers and renewing a program that offers down payment and loan assistance. coming up next, in the hot seat in less than two and a half hours, secretary of state hillary clinton set to testify before the house committee about the deadly 2012 benghazi attack.

traffic flowing and being building for west 580, westbound in the headlights, taillights going out toward the altamonte pass. in just a few hours hillary clinton set to testify before the house committee investigating the deadly 2012 attack in benghazi. this marks the first hearing since january. it is expected to be about eight hours long. now, a special committee is going to focus on what happened before the attack. republicans say this is their chance to find out why four americans died in benghazi including bay area native kris stevens. e-mails revealed that stevens asked for more security before he was killed, but didn't get t clinton's team says those requests never reached her desk. >> i expect that secretary clinton will push back on the half-truths and the outright fabrications of these crazy conspiracy theories. >> a wall street journal poll found that more than 40% of the americans are not satisfied with clinton's answers concerning benghazi. an answer from vice president joe biden finally. he will no run for president
