coming home on a praen into their home city, the bodies of 144 people who left russia for vacation in egypt. this is where they died but why is still a mystery. the debris so scattered investigators say the plane broke up in midair and the tail found three miles from the cockpit. it's a reminder of the lives lost. they're searching for clues and ruling out nothing. >> one of the things you can't rule out is whether or not there was an explosive device of some sort on the aircraft. >> a group affiliated with isis said they bombed the plane but they're claim has been dismissed. the airline says no technical fault could have caused the crash, only a mechanical impact on the plane. the jets had an accident once before. its tail damaged landing in cairo.

it passed inspection six months ago in ireland. the incident didn't effect the plane's safety. in petersburg, a second day of mourning. they know russian charger airlines of a poor safety record. they know too their country is bombing syria and they've been the victims of terrorism before. for now, all eyes are on the black box recovered from the scene. the voices and data on those most likely to unlock this mystery. and terrorism isn't being ruled out. officials here in cairo and rush scha say the most likely cause technical or mechanical failure caused the catastrophic break up. here more of the victims are being returned to their families in russia today. matt and savannah. >> bill, thank you very much. >> within the republican party side stepping the rnc.

sight in the bay area this morning: a very good monday morning to you. it is 7:56. i'm laura garcia-cannon. it's raining, but it is also leaving some roads semisubmerged and slowing things down during the morning commute. the rain left standing water outside the lawrence expressway approaching 101 and the wet weather may have played a role in interstate 280 in the off-ramp. chp is warning everyone to take a little extra time and to take things slow. the wet weather also keeping pg&e crews busy. more than 7,000 customers lost power at one point or another across the bay area this morning. it was our first, i guess, major storm, right, kari? >> yes. it is finally tapering off to the north bay approaching the south bay. expect more of these downpours and heavy rain and the slow commute as you head out this morning.

and we've had anywhere from about a half of an inch to over an inch of rain for parts of the east bay, as you start out this morning it's in the 50s and will only make it into the mid-60s this afternoon. let's check in now with mike to see how it looks for the morning commute. >> we have that rain you're talking about and also complicating things and not the water on the road and although that makes you slippery. we have lumber across the road. this is south 101 down the hill toward lincoln and that's where we have reports of wood all of the way across highway 101 in your commute direction and the map will show you sensors and it is already out of nevada and highway 37 and that was made to a slow start because of a crash around north san pedro early this morning. a very slow drive down the east shore freeway and a lot of rain with slick conditions and watch it all over the bay and both sides of 808 and 101 along the san mateo bridge and we're kicking in with smaller points and flooding off of 280 and 87 and 101.

multitask, and about one-third of the parents say they have used a mobile device to put their children to sleep. well, here in new york, more than 50,000 athletes hit the road on sunday for the 45th annual new york city marathon. temperatures were in the 50s and providing almost ideal running condition. on the men's side stanley bewott of ken roy crossed the finish line in 2:10, and it was mary keitany of kenya who won her second consecutive new york city marathon in a time of 2:24. congratulations to them and to all the finishers. dramatic video this morning of a sky diving adventure gone terribly wrong. take a look this. happened in peru. row can see the sky the diver dangling from right underneath the plane at about 10,000 feet in the air. apparently his jumpsuit got stuck on the plane's steps and he was up there for 30 minutes while they figured out what to do.

brad pitt and angelina jolie got married. >> nbc's tom brokaw recently caught up with them. tom, good morning, good to see you. >> good morning, good to be back. we got together with the newlyweds of the iconic sun setter to hotel in los angeles not too far from their home. i talked to them about their new marriage, how they have rewritten the celebrity guide book on managing fame and life's obstacles especially for angelina have brought them closer together. despite their worldwide superstardom, they sometimes seem just like another married couple. mr. and mrs. jones or smith. so now you're a married couple. you know, seas certified, and angie told me shortly after you got married she thought maybe she should be a more conventional wife and mother and thought about cooking. >> he looks at me because like every three months i'll say, hone, i think i should learn how to cook, don't i? >> yeah. >> and --

in a deeply troubled marriage. was this a big risk on your part? >> well, i think, one, i'm counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all we could never make this film. it's because we're actually very, very stable and these aren't our issues. >> blowing you a kiss. >> i'm blowing you one back. >> reporter: "by the sea" which seems more like a european art film than a traditional hollywood blockbuster is a deeply personal project. it was inspired by her own bereavement and grief after dealing with her mother's eight-year battle with cancer. >> i can't say what the whole familiar is about, but a lot of the film is when i went to visit my mom in the hospital when she found out she had -- she had cancer the first time. had to have her ovaries removed and very upset and feeling like this was taking out her parts that were female and there was a woman down the hall who was wailing, and i later found out it was a young woman who had not

had children yet and that put everything into perspective. >> reporter: angelina's mother, the actress, was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1989 at 49 and died in 2007, this following the deaths of angelina's grandmother and maternal aunt also because of cancer. a few years ago a blood test revealed that angelina carried a mutation of the brca-1 gene giving her an 87% risk of breast cancer, a 50% risk of ovarian cancer, so in 2013 she had both breasts removed and underwent reconstructive surgery emerging as a beacon of hope for women when she told the world. >> well, i feel wonderful, and i'm very, very grateful for all the support. meant a lot to me. >> reporter: have you been stunned by the reaction to this, and are there parts of it that are worrisome to you? >> you never know what a reaction is. you have to just make the

choices you make in life had. i made the choices i made because i believe they were right for me. >> reporter: then in march of this year while she was editing "by the sea" her doctor called with news that another blood test showed she could have signs of early ovarian cancer. she called brad right away. >> i was out in france and angie called me, and i got straight on a plane to return. seeing my wife have to be her strongest and knowing that it's the scare estiest of news is tey moving and not being there is a horrible feeling. >> reporter: together they faced the crisis and though tended up she did not have a full-blown tumor, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. throughout the ordeal, her mother was never far from her thoughts. >> we had some of the same nurses, some of the same doctors so the doctor that did my ovary surgery was my mother's doctor. my mother had said to her promise me you will take angie's

ovaries out and so we kind of got together -- both had a big cry and she said i promised your mother and i've got to do this. >> reporter: less than two weeks after her procedure she wrote an op-ed piece for the "new york times" to make other women aware of what they might expect if they face the same issues. in and leona's case, despite hormonal replacement therapy, her ovarian surgery brought on an early onset of menopause. >> every woman is different when they go through menopause and every woman -- i didn't know how emotionally it would be, i knew the breasts would be physically changing and the ovaries is more your emotions change and your hormones changing but it's different. you feel different. >> reporter: for brad angelina's surgeries and medical challenges these past few years have been inspirational. but she had to make big decisions did double mastectomy and then about having her

ovaries removed. how did you see your role in all of that? >> support, whatever's got to be done to keep the family together and keep the family together as long as possible is going to be done. no question it's a scary decision and there's many things that can go wrong and many different directions, but it was really led by her dedication this is what i've got to the do and this is what i'm going to do. >> reporter: did you have an appreciation of the emotional part of it? >> i just remember there was no vanity to my wife's approach. it was mature. it was an excitement to where this is our life and we're going to make about it. there was a strength in, that just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter. she was doing it for her kids and doing it for her family so she had -- so we could be together which was -- which trumped everything. trumped everything and anything. >> i think for as much as he speaks about my strength, i knew that he made it very, very clear to me that what he loved and what was a woman to him was

somebody who was smart and capable and cared about her family, that it wasn't about -- not about your physical body so i knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn't something where i was going to feel less of a woman because my husband wasn't going to let that happen. >> reporter: and in the long run angelina now thinks that her experiences might help others. >> many of us will have cancer. people all die and so to -- to face these issues together and speak about them and talk about what it is to be human i think can be a beautiful thing. >> as you know, hollywood is not my natural arena, but the fact is i'm very taken with these two because of their honesty. they didn't try to in some way to engage me in a way that would improve on their careers. i think her message is very important to women all over the world quite honestly, and they were going from here, by the way, pack to his hometown of springfield, missouri where he has a compound on a lake, spend

sugar, a little salt -- well, not a little salt, a lot of salt. >> this is thanksgiving, go wild. >> this is just to season the bird and like beer like every good australian does so thanksgiving, if you get the right spices, the other thing i love about this cajun mix, you bring that up to a boil. the -- the beautiful thing about this particular spice mix it gives you a golden brown finish and i feel like we see that so often. once this is dissolved, you know, you want to achieve it yourself. >> we've got our tasters downstairs ready to dig in on this. >> we echo your sentiments, the best turkey ever. >> this is unbelievable. >> i want to east this. >> best, best, best. >> getting a lot of yes votes. >> as soon as your sugar and salts dissolve, i'll going to cheat. pick it up and add it to cold water. you put a little ice in that water and you end up with a beautiful cold brine. you don't want at hot brine so excuse me, go on, matt. wasn't going to make you do

poundings. >> the tank, the jacket and the helmet. amazing. >> last hour we heard such a great interview, tom brokaw sat down with brad and angelina. they are promoting their first film together in 10 years and they talked about everything from their marriage, they got married a year ago, and how angelina's health problems brought them closer together as a family. in march of this year she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed and followed having the mastectomy after her gene mutation. here is what she told tom. >> there is no vanity to my wife's approach. mature, there was excitement to where this is our life, we're going to make the best of it. there is strength in that. it's another one of those things in life that makes you tighter, she was doing it for her kids and her family, so said we could be together, was trumped

everything, and anything. >> i think for as much as he speaks about my strength, i knew that he made it very, very clear to me that what he loved and what was a woman to him was somebody who was smart and capable and cared about her family, it wasn't about -- it's not about the physical body. i knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn't something where i was going to feel less of a woman because my husband wasn't going to let that happen. >> they make a powerful team. she said it. absolutely. they also talked about married life and one of the things that came up was i guess angelina joked she felt she should cook more at home. brad is not into her cooking. >> so now you are a married couple. certified. and angie told me that shortly after you got married she thought maybe she should be a more conventional wife and mother and thought about

right now at interstate 580 in dublin. it's 9:26. i'm sam brock. a quick look at interstate 580. rain on the second day of november. and still plenty more to come. the radar still lit up in shades of orange. it is leaving some roads semisubmerged and making for slow going during the morning commute. the chp is telling everyone to take things slowly and to add some extra final into your drive. the wet weather and slick roads have contributed to more than the usual round of traffic headaches. rain may have also played a role in a crash we saw this morning on interstate 280 near the saratoga off-ramp. fortunately nothing more than a fender-bender. wet weather is not believed to have played a role in an overturned big rig on interstate

580 in livermore. that crash halvf e happened aro this morning. that truck was carrying thousands of frozen chickens. and it left all westbound lanes closed for several hours as responders tried to mop up. the wet weather is also keeping pg&e crews busy, too. more than 2,000 customers are currently without power. if you want to filnd out how muh long this will last, your weather forecast right after the break.

taking a look at the headlines, and e. coli outbreak has shut down dozens of chipotle restaurant on the west coast. at least 22 people have become sick from e. coli, but health officials are expecting that number to grow while they investigate the cause of the infection. the chain has closed 43 locations in washington and oregon. officials say the source is likely a fresh food product that was shipped to the stores. investigators in pennsylvania and new jersey are still trying to figure out who put needles into candy bars that were handed out to trick-or-treaters. at least four children received tampered candy, but thankfully no one was hurt. authorities say they don't know whether the candy was altered by a person passing out halloween treats or by someone at a store or the manufacturer. a growing number of

prominent doctors, scientists and government agent significance around the world are urging parents to limit the amount of time their children spend on smartphones. they warn the phones emit a form of radiation similar to a low powered microwave oven. cell phone providers say they follow all fcc guidelines but those standards were developed nearly 20 years ago. critics say they are outdiscriminate dated. some sad news this morning, former senator and actor fred thompson who is died. he served as a u.s. senator for eight years and ran for president in 2008, but many will remember him from his role as a district attorney on the show "law & order" and for movies like "hunt for red october" and "cape fear." thompson died from a reoccurrence of lymphoma. he was 73 years old. movie-goers were apparently scared away from movie theaters this halloween weekend. according to early estimates, it was the worst box office weekend for the year so far. "the martian" though came out winner pulling in $11.4 million.
