he said it is colder in alaska. he has a lot of friends. >> i was jealous of the hawaii weather. alaska, not so much. >> you will be out there soon enough. >> it's coming. >> al, we will see you in a bit. looking forward. let's start with the top story on saturday morning. two police officers now under arrest in the shooting death of a 6-year-old in louisiana. sheinelle is here with the latest. what do we know? >> it happened during a confrontation with the boy's father. this morning, it is the officers who are facing justice. officers norris greenhouse jr. and derrick stafford are facing charges of second-degree murder in the death of 6-year-old jeremy mardis. he was killed when the city marshals opened fire on his father's suv. chris few was critically injuried during the police chase. jeremy buckled in the front seat was struck several times in the head and chest. in a press conference on friday,

colonel mike edmonson declined to say why they were in pursuit of chris few. an investigation has been under way with the 911 calls and witness testimony and body cam video worn by the officers which has not been released. describing the video. >> i can tell you as a father this is one of the most disturbing things i witnessed. >> jeremy's father indicated the boy was autistic. >> he did not deserve to die like this. that's what's important. that little boy was buckled in the front seat of that vehicle and that is how he died. >> two other officers were involved in the incident, but the superintendent declined to say whether more arrests would follow. guys. >> sheinelle, thank you. homeland security is working with foreign governments to tighten security at airports with direct flights to the united states. this, of course, comes in the wake of the russian plane crash

over egypt killing all 224 on board. with tens of thousands of russians now stranded in egypt as well, we have nbc's chief correspondent bill neely joining us from sharm el sheikh. bill, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. the latest count is 93 russian planes on stand by to fly here and bring home 50,000 russian tourists. extraordinary. there are also 20,000 british holiday makers. it is looking like a mass exodus from here after an event that is looking more and more like mass murder. the flight recorders revealing a violent and sudden event. investigators cannot find anything mechanical to match it. a child's book amid the wreckage of the crash french investigators are now convinced was not caused by a technical failu failure. sources told french media on the cockpit voice recorder, the

sound of an explosion could be heard, before that, the cockpit was absolutely normal with no technical failure reported on the second black box until the moment of the explosion. this doesn't solve what caused it. >> it could have been an explosive device that was put on the aircraft or it could have been the sound of the aircraft going through what we call an explosive decompression. >> reporter: but u.s. officials tell nbc news that intelligence intercepts reveal isis fighters in sinai promising something big before the crash, then bragging just after it, to their leaders in syria, that they had taken down the plane. the growing suspicion it might be a bomb convinced russia to stop all flights to egypt. 50,000 russian tourists now in sharm el sheikh where the plane took off. it was the intelligence chief who recommended russian planes

stop flying here. intelligence shared with the u.s. and britain. almost unprecedented. we still don't know what the intelligence is. british officials now believe a bomb may have been put in the cargo hold inside or on top of luggage. airport workers and equipment thoroughly searched while we filmed, but suspicion is falling on staff and lax security here. egyptian security officials are searching an airport under scrutiny in a region where isis is known to operate. tourists, victims and tourists trapped here. tens of thousands of them now waiting to be evacuated home. and in a few hours time, a major statement from egypt which is leading the investigation. no one is yet ruling out mechanical failure. i don't believe egypt will.

the reports of the fabrication. >> i offered a full scholarship at west point. >> reporter: west point never accepted carson. he now acknowledges it was not anything formal. >> several of the high brass told me i would be somebody they would be interested in in the military. i interpreted it as an offer. >> reporter: this is not the first time carson has been accused of embellishing and whether he had a violent temper to his youth. it is all a new level of scrutiny as carson shares frontrunner status with donald trump who did not waste time. wow, he wrote, one of many lies by ben carson. big story. chris christie weighed in too. >> dr. carson will have to answer for it. he will have to answer for the voters. they have to decide. >> reporter: how the campaign suggests the competition is spreading lies. >> suddenly we are number one.

what is the impact of this particular issue on his campaign? >> most of us judge on historic historical. 2016 has alluded all analogy with trump and carson so far ahead. the past may not be much of a guide here. i suspect it is a bump in the road for carson. as mentioned a second ago. it is an unconventional campaign in an unconventional year. the conventional rules of how campaigns can go off track sometimes probably don't apply. >> it is something we will be following closely. talking about your book, it made headlines this week as we learned more about george h.w. bush's view of his son's insiders when he was in the white house. elder bush saying cheney had his empire and rumsfeld had a lack of humility. jeb bush, the third bush in the equation.

we asked him and he said his dad was trying to create a different narrative for his brother. is that your take? >> i think president bush 41 was speaking to history. he thought that at times, the style of the 43 bush administration was hawkish in a way that probably did not represent the substance of that administration. this is a work of history. it was the long view on 41's part. i think the key thing about this is the president 41 was making a point that diplomacy and force are not competitive. they should be complementary. that was the view in the second term that bush 43 came to as well. >> we bring bush into the equation, there is some concern about the timing of the book by those in his circle and whether or not it could have a negative impact on his campaign. i think most people agree 2016

is not a conventional campaign year. is this the thing you think could impact jeb bush's campaign? >> i honestly don't. i have been surprised by that line of analysis. it seems to me that the story of his father, remarkable american odyssey, youngest pilot in the navy. young man who joined the navy on his 18th birthday. shot down over the pacific at age 20. served his country for a half century. you know, the story of his father, who is arguably the most inspirational and important man in jeb bush's life, seems to me more people who know about bush 41 might take a look at his son with another clearer set of eyes. if anything, it seems to me, that the conversation about the bush family is neutral on 16 and arguably possibly positive because it does remind people of the family's remarkable legacy of public service. >> i have to admit, i just got it last night.

the officers actions seemed to start with a case of jay walking. it was captured on tape and several people crossing the street were confronted by police. the eyewitness video described police punching the men trying to detain. police will look into whether this is a response to resisting arrest. police in austin are also investigating the shooting of a state judge. district judge is recovering from what doctors are calling a serious injury. she just driven into her driveway when the shooting took place. the subject of the podcast is getting an appeal. the right to bring new evidence to overturn his murder convicti conviction. historic talks are taking place today as leaders of china and taiwan meet for the first time since the civil war in 1949. taiwan maintains its rights as

it is not producing several inches of rain, but maybe 2 from dallas to houston. it is extending into the gulf coast through louisiana and through the day you see it exit texas and along the coastline from southern louisiana to mississippi, alabama and panhandle of florida. we could see locally heavy downpours because it is tropical in nature. in a brief period of one to two hours, you could have 1 to 2 inches of rain. the bull's-eye is northwest of alexandria in louisiana. high pressure is building in. temperatures are cooler than they have been good saturday morning to you. waking up to clear skies in the south bay. across most of the bay area we're not seeing a lot of fog, even in san francisco. the north bay is chilly. we're talking about temperatures in the 30s. a little bit cold right now. later on this afternoon north bay you'll be up to 70. still cool in san francisco, 65.

making headlines on saturday morning. two police officers in louisiana under arrest in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy. he was gunned down riding in his father's car. after a confrontation with the boy's father. officials calling the body cam footage disturbing. homeland security is asking countries to increase security after u.s. officials tell nbc news they picked up chatter from isis about bragging about bringing down the plane. and the 18-year-old boy reported missing is now speaking out. the teen releasing a statement on friday saying he wants his privacy. we start this half hour with a sexting scandal rocking a small town in colorado. teenagers accused of taking and

sending nude photos. the school district has started suspending those involved, but this could be the least of their worries. nbc's blake mccoy is following the developments. blake, good morning. >> reporter: craig, good morning. a criminal investigation has now been launched. the students could be facing felony charges. what started as a game is having serious consequences. a colorado high school in crisis. nude and explicit photos of minors being collected and traded like baseball cards. >> it is a contest. >> reporter: the school superintendent says the 1,000 kids attending canon city high school, at least 1/3 are involved. some at least as young as 13. one photo taken on school grounds. the police department launched an investigation. >> we do have a telephone with several hundred images on it. >> reporter: authorities now have three cell phones in their

possession and say kids were hiding the images using photo vault apps on their phones. apps disguise themselves as calculators or other tools so parents don't suspect what is really inside. some students have already been suspended. and the football team was forced to forfeit last night's final game because it is unclear how many of the players are implicated. those not involved feel unfairly punished. >> i did not expect the season to go out like this. >> the few kids that ruined it should not have ruined it for the team. >> reporter: a school once in contention for the state championship now under investigation. the students are facing possible charges of possessing and distributing child pornography which could be a felony. they could have to register as sex offenders. the d.a. wants to know if any students were bullied or coerced into sending photos, which would

>> reporter: good morning. lots of stranded tourists here and at the latest count 93 russian planes on standby to fly here. and take out 50,000 russian passengers, extraordinary numbers, also 20,000 british holiday makers. so a mass exodus after a crash that's increasingly looking like mass murder. the plane's flight recorders seem to reveal nothing mechanical. french investigators who listened to the black box recorders saying there was a sound of a massive explosion before that absolutely nothing abnormal. and the second black box recorder recording nothing technical. so some of the evidence pointing toward an explosion. russia clearly concurring with that and it has suspended all flights to egypt. u.s. officials picking up that isis chatter, isis operatives promising something big before the explosion, then bragging to their leaders in syria after it,

that they had taken down a plane. british officials saying they believe or suspect that a bomb was probably smuggled onto the hold of that plane, possibly by airport workers and they are looking at lax security. all of the focus certainly is on terrorism. and there will be a major statement from egypt which is leading the investigation, that's in just under two hours time. remember, nobody is ruling out mechanical failure as a possible cause, but more and more evidence is pointing to terrorism. >> it's concerning. thank you. here at home there has been an arrest nearly 40 years in the making. a convicted ohio murderer who escaped in 1978 has been arrested in minnesota where he has been living for 20 years. 56-year-old oscar was apprehended in st. paul where he had a job delivering newspapers. he was sentenced to life in prison for aggravated murder but escaped after two years by
