>> good morning. we start out with clear skies, sam and laura, but not as cold as we've seen throughout the week. looking at temperatures now in the upper 40s to lower 50s. and as we head through the day, another nice one, even warmer than yesterday. more widespread 70s across the bay area, but warmer than average temperatures continue for the next few days and we have some rain in the forecast. i'll detail that coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike to see how the commute is rolling. >> we're looking at those roadways and clear skies and here's the bay bridge very clear view and holding steady for our emoryville camera, the most steady shot and looking that roadways and also very steady. a basketball game, as well as the warriors tonight and traffic in the east bay and we'll track that and so far right now, work at this time, a very light drive as you would expect all around the bay, back to you. >> thauk very much, mike. now to breaking news we have been monitoring overnight. more than 100 people being held

hostage as gunmen take over a hotel in mali's capitol. >> kris sanchez keeping track of the latest developments for us from the newsroom. what can you tell us? >> we can tell you this is still a very active hostage situation and that it appears to be an attack, perhaps, fueled by islamic extremism. affecting air traffic in france. one flight between paris is now canceled. these are the first images we are getting from the radisson blue hotel and in those imnls you can see armed men on the street according to a milaian army commander a man stormed the hotel yelling god is great. mali is in west africa. a former french colony. its capital city is fast growing and nearly 2 million people strong. now, the radisson blue hotel used to by diplomats and also

air france crews. we are extremely concerned about the situation in mali and for the safety of oour guests and employees in the hotel, we are in contact with authorities there. now, also, the u.s. embassy staff and u.s. citizens have been told to shelter in place and also private citizens are being encouraged to contact their families and let them know they are okay. now, just back in august, the embassy did issue a security message for foreigners warning of a heightened security risk outside the city. now, again, back to the images we're first getting into the newsroom this morning. the time zone is about nine hours ahead, so, it is about the noontime hour. the situation ongoing as many as 70 people taken hostage. we're hearing that three of them have been killed, 15 of them have been released. and other media outlets are reporting that they were released because they were able to cite versus from the koran. we're trying to get to the

bottom of that. we will hopefully have more information for you in the next half hour. sam and laura. >> a very fluid situation, kris, we know you'll get as much information as is available. we'lstay on top of this breaking news story both here and online. just head to nbcbayarea.com for the latest updates. new details this morning on an intense standoff in the east bay. oakland police keeping pretty tight lipped on the situation this morning but our camera did catch a van on scene this morning. it is not clear if it is the homicide suspect who locked himself in a room at motel 6 after firing at officers. it happened by the coliseum and the standoff shut down the off ramp from interstate 880 for hours. sources tell nbc bay area this morning this man, jason alexander brown is the suspect in thestandoff. brown and another man are believed to have sought two men at the cvs parking lot in

livermore last nunth. one of those victims died, the other was severely wounded. brown is also wanted in connection with killings in fresno and sacramento. the search continues in pairs for more terror suspects after the most wanted man from last week's attacks is now confirmed dead, still, though, one primary suspect in those attacks is on the loose this morning. back here in the u.s., the events in paris have debates about our own immigration policy. the house voted to start taking drastic measures to how many syrian refugees can be admitted. >> what could happen to the thousands of refugees that could be admitted to the united states. tracie potts in washington with the latest developments. >> reporter: in the wake of the paris attacks and isis videos mentioning washington and new york, the obama administration is trying to reassure americans that it's highly unlikely that this could happen here. >> we are not aware of any

credible threat here of a paris-type attack. and we have seen no connections at all between the paris attackers and the united states. >> reporter: still, some in congress want to shut our borders to every refugee from syria and other countries known to harbor terrorists. 47 democrats voted against the president to support that, but it's unclear if the plan will make it to the president's desk. >> don't worry, it won't get past. >> reporter: plan to block syrian refugees is drawing heat on the campaign trail. >> very simply, we can't take them, folks. we can't take them. it could be a trojan horse. >> reporter: ben carson compared it to protecting children from rabbed dogs. >> doesn't mean that you hate all dogs by any stretch of the imagination, but you're putting your intellect into motion and you're thinking how do i protect my children. >> slamming the door on every syrian refugee, that is just not who we are. >> reporter: the effort to block syrian refugees from coming into

be about 20 degrees cooler. prepare yourself for that. we'll have wild temperature swings as we take a live look now in san francisco starting out with a breezy wind and mostly clear skies. it's not as cold as we've seen the past few mornings as you head out, though, you still need long sleeves or a light jacket. today's weather headlines shows us that it will be mainly clear throughout the morning. sunrise at 6:52 and more 70s across the bay area than we had yesterday. yeah, you probably hit 70 degrees at your house, but we'll also see them all across the bay area and then patchy fog this evening. and sunset at 4:54. and napa at 46 degrees. san francisco 53. and we still have this same weather pattern with high pressure just to the west of us and cold fronts rolling to the north of us. into the next few days, high pressure gets weaker and breaks down and starts to move to the east and that will start to allow some of those cold fronts

to move through. that won't happen until thanksgiving and heading into the holiday. so, the weekend forecast, keeps it dry. keeps it warm. above average for the end of november. the east bay will be at 71 degrees today and tomorrow and by sunday, 69 degrees. it will be dropping back a couple of degrees abe few spots with a very weak cold front moving in. if you're coming out to the safeway food drive, that happening all across the bay area, 156 stores participating and i'll be in santa clara. the temperature will pea at 57 degrees during the morning and then warming up to 68 degrees. beautiful weather for that and you can find the details on nbcbayarea.com. let's check in now with mike to see how the roads are moving. >> good morning, kari. we'll take you out to dublin and westbound 580 moves well just as you would expect. it's friday, we're expecting a lighter flow and it's the friday before thanksgiving weekend. and we should, i meant week and we should see a lighter flow overall in general for the next

lighting ceremony. >> that's this weekend, pier 39. so comfortable not even feeling like the christmas season. into the upper 60s at 4:00 and then dropping back to the low 60s by the time all those lights pop on. now, it will be warm the next couple of days, but check out what we're expecting for thanksgiving day. these are high temperatures. only in the low to mid-50s and the morning may be freezing across the bay area. we'll keep you up to date on that and keep you up to date on the commute this morning is mike. >> traffic flow is great right now, kari. tonight be a little more raucous inside there. but over on the freeway, we're moving very nicely past that coliseum, the arena and up towards the bay bridge. foster city side of look how light it is. there's the high rise and there's the flat section and the south bay just like it there. all over the bay you're at the limit. we'll look at the san jose camera and look at 101. decent number of cars but nobody getting into any trouble. that's good for silicon valley.
