an eye on it. it looks clear near the golden gate bridge. >> very cool and the roads will gradually dry. we had one last round of rain. most of us got from .10 to .25 inch of rain. as we saw it moving to the east, there's heavy snow and that may still impact your holiday travel, especially if you're heading to the south or to the east. there's still some weather happening there. look at these temperatures now, 30 in napa, 45 in san carlos, very chilly heading out today. heading towards colder temperatures the next couple mornings. leds send it to mike for a look at how the roads are moving. >> the roads are moving well around the bay. we've zoomed down to 101. you can see the water kicking up, slick from the last rain kari talked about.

tonight the sharks are playing and there may be conditions right for a little snow in mmt. not a traffic concern for your morning commute. as we look toward the bay, a smooth drive toward the bay, getting away toward the sierra, those highways have chains required. looking at i-5 still open through the grapevine. we'll track it. back to you. a new twist from a high profile murder, learning more about the gun used to kill a bay area artist. >> bob, a connection that the murder weapon has to a federal agent in san francisco? >> police here in san francisco tell us that gun used to kill a muralist was stolen from a car. it turns out the car and gun was owned by a federal agent with i.c.e. >> you can hear in the video he

was not happy, repeatedly yelling obscenities. his name is marquise holloway, a 20-year-old man from stockton who police say shot and killed antonio ramos as he painted a mural under 580 in oakland this past september. investigators believe holloway was trying to rob ramos of his camera. >> he had taken a break and was taken some pictures to memorialize it and put it up on the web side. he had camera equipment up there. i believe that's what sparked the whole incident. >> in court documents holloway who is the suspect indicates that the shooting was an accident. he never completed his arraignment yesterday in court because of that outburst. he's scheduled to reappear in that oakland courtroom this coming monday. live in the san francisco newsroom, bob redell, "today in the bay." it's 5:02. happening later today, a north bay man accused in the deadly stabbing of his mother and fact

are, 34-year-old nathan wilson was arrested on monday. he stands accused of killing his mother and father earlier in the day. family friends say for a long time wilson struggled with mental health ises. today he'll be arraigned in santa rosa. you should be seeing more police officers on the roads starting tonight. they call this the holiday maximum enforcement period. holiday patrol beeves up staffing because drunk driving becomes such a problem over the long four-day holiday. duis shoot up to over 1,000 in the last several years. enjoying the holiday cheer without the traffic jam. >> some big changes this year you'll need to know about. cars get backed up there, kris. >> reporter: if you've ever been here, you know half of the fapt sizing has to do with being out of the car and not hearing the whining from the back seat. you often had to wait on city streets idling in traffic, telling the kids just a little bit longer. for years people enjoyed this mile and a half spectacular of holiday lights, santas and candy canes, playing basketball, synchronized with music tuned in to the car radio. this is the first time the santa collar rah parks department is testing out a new reservation system. you can pick a day, december 5th are the days you can walk through, december 6th through 31st you can drive through. buy your ticket online, 20 bucks for a car up to 12 people. $50 if you're bringing in a vehicle that carries more than

111-37 to improve to a perfect 16-0 record to start the season. that officially marks the best start ever in nba history. >> they played like the warriors were varsity and the lakers were sixth grade. >> i don't think our guys play with pressure, to be honest with you. i think challenges like this and this streak, it brings out the best in them. next up, can the lakers beat a sixth grade team. the next record the warriors are shooting for is a 33-game winning streak set by a more formidable laker team nearly 45 years ago. out goes the rain, in comes the king tides. waves flooded parts of marin county yesterday. today is expected to get worse. the unusually high tides started rolling in yesterday morning. water was a foot and a half higher than the average high tide. fishermen and beachgoers are being warned to be careful.

there's a bigger concern. climate experts predict rising sea levels and rising ocean temperatures will eventually lead to erosion along the california coastline. >> if this is the new average water level, we have to think about what a king tide would look like on top of that. if we were to have a storm in an el nino year, we could see up to three, four feet above the water level in the future. >> the kingsides are expected to peak this morning. so from the beaches to the sea area, you've got to love california. a recent storm dumped inches of fresh poud tore the region overnight. if you're headed to the mountains, get the chains ready. maybe pack your patience as well. let's bring in meteorologist kari hall with just how much snow actually fell overnight. >> yes. i was just checking some of those numbers. we've had anywhere from 12 to 14 inches. the total snowpack up to two feet in some spots. so looking good there. now our temperatures are in the low 40s and and mid 40s, too.

we'll only head into the mid 50s today. all across the bay area with some sunshine and the winds starting to relax as we go into the afternoon. we'll take a look at all the microclimates and what to expect with freezing temperatures tomorrow. that's coming up in just a few minutes. let's see how the morning commute is moving now with mike. >> kari, it's moving very well. we expect a lighter commute of course. we are concerned about the wet roadways, 580 moving well through dublin. i don't see puddling on the roads, a sheen on the roadway. still slick so we warn folks about possible spinouts. no back up at the bay bridge. things are moving well. not until the sun comes out that things will dry. overnight there were winds that were a concern for chp. but no problem across 92 and the

terror attacks in paris.. at 5:11, as americans head out for thanksgiving, fears heightened following the recent terror attacks in paris. >> the u.s. tightens security at airports. today in the bay's tracie potts joining us live from washington. traci it's one of the busiest, if not the busiest travel day of the year. >> reporter: one of them for sure. with so many people out and with what's been going on internationally, paris and mali, the russian crash in syria. travel alerts and warnings, what does it all mean? president obama gets a briefing in a couple hours. they're finding that fighting fear is just as challenging as fighting terrorism. you'll see more officers at airports and train stations today. this morning president obama meets with his national security team focusing on what's being

done to protect the u.s. as authorities train for the worst, his message -- >> we're vigilant, we take precautions but we go about our business. americans will not be terrorized. >> reporter: in fact, the government says there is no credible threat here. security experts admit intelligence only goes so far. >> i don't think it's realistic to expect we'd ever have the ability to be forewarned to a point where we can predict something is going to occur on a specific date at a specific location. >> reporter: isis is out with a new propaganda video questioning our military's resolve. a new fbi bulletin warns police to be careful, the concern, soft targets, restaurants, malls, places where people gather. the biggest threats, home grown terrorists, copy cats, not isis. the biggest deterrent? you. >> it doesn't mean you need to be fearful, just that you need to be mindful about what it is. >> reporter: ordinary people, authorities say, keeping eyes

>> at this point we don't know. the new safety board will meet for the first time next week. they're from all over the united states. that's the important point, they are all americans. uber is an international company, of course. the board will start with beefing up security and safety at uber here in the united states. the board is full of experts. topping that is the former boston police commissioner ed davis, former department of justice official martin richardson and domestic violence expert sydney southward. rob chestnut, john barton and jessica eaglin. they say don't won't speculate what they may do until they have a better understanding of uber's process which is a sign of their professionalism. we turn to landon doughty for a look at the bell.

happy thanksgiving. >> happy thanksgiving to you as well. the markets looked ahead into the holiday. on a positive note, stocks are higher. closing slightly higher due to a jump of energy prices on the back of a big rise in oil prices. we get tons of economic data on unemployment, durable goods, personal income and spending, new home sales. the dow rising 19 points to 17812, the nasdaq up a fraction to 5102. you may love your fitness tracker, but your doctor probably doesn't. m.i.t.'s technology review journal says many of the doctors are rolling their eyes a bit at patients who come in with reams of data. this is the microsoft band by the way. one doctor says he's taken aback by it. clinicians he says cannot do a lot with the number of steps you've taken in a day.

it's a good thing -- they care, do you get a half hour of exercise every day? when you say yes, they're done. >> i think people are proud of their steps. >> yes, they are. if it helps you do it, you're done. >> if you were a doctor and someone walked in with a spreadsheet, i would be like, get out of here. >> the other one is an english major. >> your five minutes is up. >> thank you very much. >> new york this morning, people are getting ready for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. watching balloons being inflated. participants will walk around with the balloons to make sure how to keep them under control for tomorrow. more than 10,000 people including dancers, singers and other entertainers are all taking part in this year's parade. it will be the 89th year for the parade down 6th avenue in manhattan. >> and we'll have it right here on nbc bay area tomorrow morning. i got to see that parade last year.

it was raining and snowing. it was kind of miserable. >> it was kind of cool to see -- >> we have the gusty winds here this year. so we'll be dealing with the same kind of conditions as we go into thanksgiving and freezing temperatures, too. feels like new york city, too. as we take a live look now in san francisco, you can see the camera still shasking around a bit. but the rain is out of here. if you're getting ready to hit the road, we do still have a heads-up for you. even though it's clear in the bay area, it has not cleared the entire state. some of that rain has now moved to the south. the snow still happening in the sierra. that snow may still be going on for a couple of days. if you're going to the south, heading to los angeles or anywhere towards the central coast, there's still some rain out there on 5 and maybe even some snowflakes as you head up

into the mountains. be mindful of that and allow extra time to get to where you're going. the current temperature continues to drop now that that cold front has moved on to the east. in concord, 40 degrees, napa 30 degrees, and san francisco now at 44 degrees. let's take it hour by hour in san francisco. we will be in the mid 40s at 8:00 and then the low 50s heading into the early afternoon. bundled up all day long with some sunshine. into tonight it will be another cold one as temperatures continue to drop. a look at all the microclimates. look for highs in the mid 50s no matter where you are. after some morning clouds it will be clearing out. we're looking ahead to our next chance of rain after getting .10 to .25 inch for much of the bay area. our next chance of rain comes monday. this may affect you if you're heading back from thanksgiving for the first part of next week, we'll still have showers moving

through. chilly temperatures and another round of rain on wednesday. things start to get a little more active here and maybe el nino type conditions kicking in. great news as far as how much rain we can see in the next week. >> we always warn folks about the lighter flow of traffic for the holiday week, it might have saved us. we still see damp roadways with puddling. be careful out there. the north bay, looks like a smooth southbound direction through san rafael. slim conditions approaching the golden gate bridge as well. watch mill valley by richardson bay. that highway was closed off northbound 101. that might be the same as the king tides come in. the south bay, no problems. we'll look at fremont for a live look at the slight build for that southbound commute. back to you.

unit exclusive. could people's health in one bay area be at risk? that's a question after a hazardous chemical leak was discovered seven month ago. >> environmental health inspectors say the leak may have contaminated underground water supplies. bigad shaban lrnd more about a leak that could be posing a threat to residents leaving there. >> good morning. the leak was discovered at an oil field in alameda county run by a company called e&b natural resources. crews there are still working to clean up the mess that was actually discovered at least seven months ago. county officials still can't answer basic questions about the impact of the leak and whether those living near the site could be in danger. about 400 wells are in the area, but state officials couldn't tell us how many people rely on that water. most, if not all, are private wells, so the water is never treated for possible contaminates before it's used for drinking and farming. in a statement e&b says it believes the leak happened years ago before they ever bought the

morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we are seeing speckles of green on that radar. overnight rain lingering a bit on bay area highways this morning. whether you're heading out the door for thanksgiving or going to work, you might get slick roadways. >> let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. the rain might be over but it will be cool fast. >> it's already dropping across most of the bay area. the temperatures in the lower 30s behind the front that moved through. the last batch of rain moved through probably while you were sleeping. now things are starting to dry out across the bay area. that rain moves farther to the south and now that snow continues just to our east. 40 degrees in concord. oakland is 42. look at santa rosa. napa in the 30s now. that's nothing compared to what you'll feel in the next few mornings. let's see how the roads are moving with mike. >> they're moving well. we always advise folks to slow down when the conditions are

like they r. we talked about the slick conditions, puddling at the off-ramp. as you see folks take the turn, it looks gradual. we're looking toward the maps and we see no major problems through the tri-valley. 684 may be blocking one lane, we'll track it in sunol and fremont. the rest of the area looks great including the bay bridge toll plaza. police have confirmed a federal employee's gun stolen and used in the murder of a popular muralist. >> bob redell has the twist in the investigation. this is a gun stolen from a federal i.c.e. agent's car parked here in san francisco, sam and laura, the same gun used to kill oakland artist antonio ramos last september. yesterday, the man accused in

this murder appeared in an oakland courtroom. as you're about to see and hear in this video, he was not kpopive to say the least, yelled obscenities had to be escorted out. his name is marquise holloway, a 20-year-old stockton man. police believe he shot ramos while trying to steal his camera equipment. holloway has also been charged with stealing the federal agent's done, the. it's been confirmed that a duty weapon belonging the an officer was stolen from the officer's parked car. you may recall the nbc bay area vittive unit recently discovered that i.c.e. agents have lost 165 weapons since 2006. as for the arraignment of holloway, they had to postpone that because it obviously was not being cooperative. they're expecting him back in that oakland courtroom this upcoming monday. reporting live in the san francisco newsroom, bob redell,

"today in the bay." at 5:31, a south bay home a total loss after being gutted by fire. started about 8:00 on wooding court in san jose. a family of three lived there. nobody was hope when the fire broke out thankfully. our crew was still there when the homeowner arrived, devastated but looking at the bright side. >> it's a shame, but heartbreaking. i'm okay. my wife is okay. my son is okay, my family's o y okay. we'll get through this. >> firefighters say they won't go inside to try to determine the cause. new details this morning. russia's defense ministry says one of two military pilots shot down by a turkish missile in syria is safely back at a

russian-controlled air base. both pilots ejected before impact. syrian rebels on the ground killed the other pilots. a russian marine died during that rescue operation as well. turkey says it shot down a plane yesterday after repeated warnings were issued and then ignored about that russian aircraft flying into turkey's airspace. the incident ignited tensions between turkey and russia. russian president vladimir putin is now warning of significant consequences. new this morning, french police are questioning a man they've taken into custody over the paris terror attacks, he's known as the white amir. mohammed amir taught an extreme form of islam. investigators think he may have given shelter to someone linked to the paris attacks. he's in custody and the state of emergency declared gives authorities power to hold people for questioning without charging them with a crime. those worried about their safety getting ready to start

of the santa clara county parks department, trying to make it easier so people are feeling cheerful as they enter the gates. it's a fantastic display. usually before the oohs and ahs. there was a lot of waiting on city streets, people idling along the streets, telling the kids, just a little longer. it's a mile and a half display of holiday lights that are a soft bay tradition, the santas, candy cains, dinosaurs playing basketball. all synchronized to music in the car radio. it's a 30-minute break from the holiday hustle and bustle. the new system aims to take the bah humbug out of the holiday of lights. the parks department will let you pick a day. you can walk through december 5,

sacred heart will take turkeys up until 3:00 this afternoon. they're actually distributing most of the free food today to those needy families. >> i love to see all the holiday season. you need it year-round. >> brings out the best in us which is refreshing. sometimes the news is a bit tough to take. it's refreshing to get some rain as well. we've had some. still lingering around today -- >> clearing out but the roads are still wet after the early morning rain. we have clouds in parts of the south bay and peninsula. you can see the sheen on the roadways. highs today in the mid 50s all across the bay area. very chilly temperatures. but at least it will be sunny and a look ahead to the morning temperature which will be freezing. in the north bay, 30 degrees, 32 in the tri-valley. elsewhere we'll see temperatures slightly above freezing, but expect a hard freeze, especially in those valleys tomorrow

morning. we'll take a look at the rest of the forecast and look ahead to our next chance of rain in a few minutes. let's check in with mike to see how things are going on the roadways. >> if you have a frozen turkey, a reminder, you have to defrost that. that's a rude awakening for some first-timers. an easy drive for the north bay, picking up company and puddling on the roadway. we have slick conditions in many spots. highway 37, a little slowing out of vallejo. not for the upper east shore, not a major concern out of pittsburg and bay point. we have a bigger backup south 680 at highway 84. a motorcycle involved in a crash and now it's in the center divide. no injuries reported. but slowing. we'll bring you more details as that comes in. the rest of the bay moving very well. now to an vittive unit exclusive. a conflict between federal and

an emotionally charged night for two major u-s cities -- as protestors vent their frustration over their . an emotionally charged night as protesters vent their frustration over their police department. in chicago and minneapolis, protesters poured into the streets overnight all demanding justice after two deadly police shootings. in chicago demonstrators gathered after police released a police dash cam video showing a white officer shooting a 17-year-old african-american teenager. warning, the video we're about to show may be difficult to watch. this is from october of last year. police were responding to a young man armed with a knife. then, according to prosecutors, officer jason van dyke opened fire shooting 17-year-old laquan mcdonald 16 times, eventually killing him. the coroner's report shows at least two of mcdonald's wounds were in the back. now many are questioning why it

took more than a year to charge that officer and release this video. >> if these videos are meant to create transparency, they're meant to create a transparent interaction with the concerned public. this wouldn't have gone this way. videos would have been released a long time ago. >> just before the video was released, officer van dyke turned himself in. he's charged with first degree murder. in minneapolis for a ninth consecutive night, demonstrators took to the streets all demanding justice for jamar clark, an ann african-american man killed by police two weeks ago. those protest haves been plagued with violence, including an incident that left five people shot. police are currently holding three men accused of firing at protesters. santa clara police department now has body ram ras, now equipped with cameras after a year of field tests and training. santa clara the latest to adopt

move would be. he was honest. he said i don't know, we'll figure this out, see where the problems are and then we'll fix them which i think is a really solid answer. >> i think so, too, you need to come in and assess before you maybe make decisions. another air bag recall to tell you about this morning. this time toyota is recalling some 1.6 million cars over their detective air bags. they included 22 models sold in japan, italy, britain an spain. in the united states alone, 19.2 million vehicles have been recalled. at least eight deaths are blamed on those air bags. corroding metal inside can break apart and hurt people when they get into an accident. a new worry about a bug. most experts seem to agree there's no real cause for alarm. the centers for disease control is worning about the spread of an insect called the kissing bug

the rain has cleared here, but not the entire region. there's still some rain as you head to the south. some snow in the sierra. if you'll be taking 5 down to los angeles, it may be wet and snowy, too. we've had some snow in some of the higher elevations there. our temperatures are starting to really dry in the north bay. 30 in napa, 34 in santa rosa. san francisco 44 degrees, san jose 43. it will be cold for the next several days. so get used to it. our winds are starting to cam down. we'll have winds of 10, maybe 15 miles an hour during the highest peaks. the calm winds will allow the temperatures to really plummet tonight. that's where we're expecting freezing temperatures in the val liss. highs today in the mid 50s. more sunshine coming out as we go through the day. a calm wind once again. that's not a major concern. looking ahead to our next chance

through. we'll zoom over toward southbound 680. that's where we have the one crash i'm tracking. reports of a single vehicle involved, and it's a motorcycle, trying to find out whether or not there are any injuries or any lanes blocked because we do have a slower drive. last i heard it was the center divide and possibly in the fast lane. but activity might cause a distraction. slowing south from pleasanton toward 84. your tri-valley commute looking good. as we move toward the bay bridge toll plaza and the north bay, i want to point out richardson bay. that's north 101 to highway 1 off stinson beach, closed in preparation for the king tides. they'll likely do that again. as folks come off the roadway and encounter a little water, they could lose control. yesterday everything was safe. they did shut that down for a period of time. we'll get a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. this and 680 southbound are the only issues.

surveillance video helped detectives catch the suspects. nearly 50 million gallons of water was lost and a the damage came in around $8 million. a hazardous chemical leak was discovered more than seven months ago. >> environmental health inspectors say the leak may have contaminated underground water supplies. investigative reporter bigad shaban has obtained stacks of documents to learn more about a leak that could be posing a health threat to residents. >> good morning. the leak was discovered at an oil field in alameda county run by a company called e&b natural resources. crews there are still working to clean up the mess that was actually discovered at least seven months ago. county officials still can't answer basic questions about the impact of the leak and whether those living near the site could be in danger. about 400 wells are in the area, but state officials couldn't tell us how ny people rely on that water. most, if not all, are private
