freeze warning. >> watching temperatures in the north bay and tri-valley and dipping into the 20s for the morning and see the potential for roadway ice, especially in the north bay. look at that 29 degrees right now and daytime temperatures not much warmer. as you can see only low 50s for highs. a chance we could see a few showers in the afternoon, as well. don't need the windshield wipers, but you'll want to crank up the heaters. >> we're looking over here towards fremont where the windshields are moving well and lightly populated southbound 880. just south of this fremont camera we have a crash reported right around the mccarthy onramp to 237. not on 237 will affect the folks and just a tiny bit of traffic coming in out of the ultimaamon. >> as we would like to see on a monday. thank you, mike. a popular san francisco police officer found on the

wrong side of the law. he went viral when this photo was posted online giving him the nickname, the hot cop of the castro. but now police say he's responsible for a hit and run crash that left two people in serious condition. >> stephanie chuang with more on the investigation as we hear from a friend of one of the victims. good morning, steph. >> yeah, that's right, laura and sam. the first time we're hearing from this friend who says one of the victims is his family friend who was heavily sedated in the icu but just thankful that his friend is expected to recover and be okay. off-duty christopher cors that hit two people in his dodge charger and than ran from the scene. witnesses say they heard the crash at broadway and montgomery and saw the two victims lying in the street. we spoke with one of the victims' family friends who said he is in critical condition after suffering a broken leg and

a broken jaw and injuries to had head that required stitches. >> he was with his friend. they had just watched the musical performance i believe a latin jazz nature. we were receiving all our information from earlier news reports that witnesses a say he was crossing the street with his friend and in the crosswalk. other than that, since victor's jaw is broken, he's able to speak, but, obviously, heavily medicated. other than that, we're just taking it step by stope. >> police booked him in county jail and he is out on bail and investigators had been talking to more witnesses taget information and piece together what led up to this accident to this crash of these two men hit and very severely injured. the good news in this, though, is both are expected to survive. live in our san francisco news, stephanie chuang. 4:33, happening today, the man accused of shooting and

killing is headed back to court. after the killing of antonio ramos on october 29th. he created a quite a scene. oakland police believe he shot ramos because he wanted his camera. the gun used in the shooting was stolen from an i.c.e. agent's car. a man accused of stabbing and killing his girlfriend on the peninsula. 34-year-old colleen straw died saturday from multiple stab wounds. his boyfriend seen here is wanted in connection with her death. police say on saturday afternoon they received a call from a woman saying that her boyfriend had stabbed her and then taken off. all this happening in her home on south b street in san carlos. the suspect was no where near the car.

police think an all-out search for them in the weekend shutting down the urgent care center thinking he was hiding inside. when that was not the case, they boarded b.a.r.t. trains not looking for the suspect. he is both armed and dangerous. an emphasis on safety is on top of the list this holiday season in one east bay city. police say they plan to deploy over extras over the next two high-volume shopping months in an effort to creep crime at a minim minimum. park their cars in well-lit areas and avoid leaving packages and shaupg bags and other valuables in plain view and have your keys ready when you walk back to your car. just generally be aware of your surroundings and always report any suspicious behavior. staying warm is difficult and many homeless have been left outside in the cold. today 13 daytime warming centers open at public libraries and community and senior centers

around santa clara county. they'll provide a warm place when shelters are not open, particularly helpful for those families in need. santa clara county opened two overnight cold weather centers because of this cold snap. >> certainly needed it this morning. it was 37 i read on the car temperature this morning driving to work. >> will it go up or down? hopefully a little bit up. rob mayeda joining us. >> 32 degrees, but not the coldest spot in the bay area. up towards santa rosa where it's 29 degrees and san francisco 42 degrees and we'll see clouds on the increase today and this will help keep our temperatures down, not as much sunshine and we may see a few light showers passing by, so, high temperatures today upper 40s to low 50s. 54 degrees in san jose. you can see san francisco low to mid-50s about the same across the north bay and best chance of showers will be there towards the afternoon and tri-valley

at 4:40. happening today, the alleged gunman behind the shooting ram pag in colorado will face the judge for the first time. robert lewis dear had recently moved to the rural town of harts ifville, which is about an hour away from the shooting scene. he lived with a woman in a runned down trailer that has no water, sewer system or electricity. when robert dear was take nn to custody, he uttered no more baby parts. again, peolice have not cited a motive. jennifer was among the victims. a mother of two was originally from hawaii. iraq war veteran stewart from texas was also killed in the shooting. the the third person killed w s

swasey. later today a trial gets under way. 26-year-old william porter charged in the death of freddie gray. porter is the first of six police officers to go on trial. the charges against him include manslaughter and assault. you recall that gray died back in april after suffering fatal injuries while in the back of a police van. all six officers are being tried separately and porter is expected to be called as a witness against at least two of them. the chicago police officer accused of shooting a man 16 times killing him makes his first court appearance today. jason vandyke is charged with first degree murder. dash cam videos show mcdonald being. the officer's lawyer said

seeing temperatures cold enough for that freeze warning that will be up through about 9:00 this morning. live look at the bay bridge, where it's not as chilly closer to san francisco. we're seeing temperatures closer to 42 degrees. right now, as you take a look at san jose, it is 37 degrees right now. south bay temperatures 30s and some 20s not too far away. 32 in cupertino and move up the peninsula here, look at woodside. 29 degrees and stanford 30. as you head over to the tri-valley this morning. 23 degrees in walnut creek and 30 in dublin and, yes, 32 degrees around livermore for this morning. 39 currently in oakland and now san francisco dipping close to 39 degrees. so, we have a cool start to the day and, interestingly enough, some showers that will try to come in as we head through the afternoon. this weather system will push a lot of clouds over the bay area, the sun will have a tough time trying to warm up temperatures today. highs in the low 40s and 50s and

protesters, that was the scene at the market street whole foods in san francisco yesterday. all because of an investigation into the chain's turkey supplier. >> what do we want? >> activists with direct action everywhere wore blue and held pictures of turkeys as they marched around the store yesterday afternoon. they say their protest follows an investigation, the results of which were released last week. the group showed these pictures showing turkeys in crowded barnes and trapped in areas where feces covered the floor. the pictures show the condition at a farm in the central valley. whole foods has fired back after these accusations. they sent osstatement which says in part, it is important to understand the mission of activist groups isn't farm animal welfare but rather a total end to animal agriculture and meat consumption. whole food sent a team to the far within an hour of seeing the
