witnessing the changing landscape. >> this summer i saw the effects of climate change first hand in our northern most state, alaska where the sea is already eroding coast lines and glaciers are melting at pace unprecedented in modern times. >> the president is one of 147 leaders speaking about how to slow climate change. we are joined live from paris with more. good morning. >> reporter: busy morning for the president as he met with turkish president as well. yesterday was about creating a sense of urgency. today is all about the money as the make or break negotiations are underway to cut carbon

emissions and help prevent the worst of climate change. president obama joining about 150 heads of state here and there are major disagreements over who should shoulder the burden in paying for going green. there have been two previous attempts in 1997 as well as 2007. both of those were seen as failures and president obama hopes this time will be different. >> i've come here personally as the leader of the world's largest economy and second largest emitter to say that the united states of america not only recognizes our roll in creating this problem we embrace our responsibility to do something about it. >> reporter: president obama also called a global talks an act of defiance against terrorism.

some high profile entrepreneur announced plans. president obama met with vladimir putin and met with the turkish president today to speak about the fight against isis. he is scheduled to hold a news conference in the next few hours before heading to washington today. with about two months left until the iowa cogs, the candidates are making their cases for high powered indorsements. that was the idea for donald trump yesterday in a closed door meeting. katy tur reports. >> reporter: donald trump in spin mode holding a private meeting with black pastors and leaders. >> there were unbelievable solutions i think to problems. >> reporter: the meeting was supposed to result in an indorsement and instead trump's campaign abruptively canceled

the press conference after they had themselves faced back lash from their communities. in an open letter calling trump's words incendiary. >> we made history today because we had meaningful dialogue with mr. donald trump and we voiced concerns that were center to the african american communities. >> reporter: sources tell nbc news the atmosphere was tense as some addressed concerns about a tweet trump sent out with crime stats as well as his handling of a black lives matter protester who was kicked and punched. >> it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing. >> i don't have to support every single thing he says. we duszed it, addressed it and put it to bed. >> reporter: despite the emphatic assurances of a few,

most of the leaders left trump tower without their indorsement. >> are you going to change your tone? >> the tone has brought me to a good position. the beautiful thing about the meeting is that they really didn't ask me to change the tone. i think they want to see victory. >> reporter: leaving many to wonder what indorsement if any will matter. the man accused of killing three people at a colorado planned parenthood clinic made his first court appearance monday where he was told he could face the death penalty. but the proceeding shed little light on what sparked the deadly rampage. >> reporter: robert dear appearing before judge on closed circuit television said little. >> do you have any questions about any of these rights, sir? >> no questions. >> reporter: the 57-year-old to be charged with murder. police say friday he killed

three and wounded nine at a planned parenthood clinic. the president of planned parenthood claims the violence was planned. >> very disturbing that anyone would ever target a planned parenthood or any other woman's health center based on their own opposition to abortion. >> reporter: he lived in a north carolina shack before moving here in colorado. neighbors said he rarely made conversation let alone eye contact. >> just looked like a mountain man. >> reporter: the standoff lasted five hours. 45 people were trapped inside the clinic, including kantanya crayon. >> you could hear gun shots and from there the bullets went through the wall. you could see it, smell it. >> reporter: pregnant, she came accompanied by her boyfriend, the father of two, an iraq war veteran was shot in the parking lot and somehow managed to rush into the clinic and warn others before he was shot again.

>> the only brother that i have. and he took that away from me. >> reporter: jennifer, a mother of two was at the clinic to support a friend. police officer derrick swazy also ran towards the shooter. the father of two loved his family, career and god. >> robert dear is being held without bond and will be formerly charged within the next 10 days. the officer accused of a shooting death of a chicago teen was released last night after posting bail. officer jason vandyke was met by a swarm of reporters and protesters after leaving prison. the police union president says union members helped van dike's family raise bond money. 12 people were arrested at a protest against abuse, including naacp president brooks, who took this picture inside a police van. officer van dike has been charge

would first degree murder in the fatal shooting of laquan mcdonald. dash cam footage shows van dike shashot mcdonald 16 times. and authorities have made an arrest in a threat of violence that prompted university of chicago to cancel classes yesterday. dean was charged with posting an online threat saying he would kill 16 white students monday morning on the campus quadall in retaliation for the amount of times officer vandyke shot mcdonald last year. the school is expected to resume normal operations today. well, it is barely december and the upper midwest is already getting a taste of winter. >> reporter: a brutal wave of ice, freezing rain, and snow, gripping much of the midwest.

weakened. you can kind of see the spinning motion where the center of the storm is. it will track towards lake superior. maybe an additional couple inches of snow. a lot of big snows are over with. here is the big storm. pretty calm weather this morning today. and then a lot of activity in the pacific. active weather pattern expected. one batch of moisture coming in tonight into tomorrow and then could be another storm behind that. this is what we expect a little more acive weather for the west coast. you see the bright white, a lot of moisture with the clouds. the rainfall forecast over the next two days the cutoff line is northern california. real steady rains on the coastal areas. the olympics could pick up possibly two to three inches of rain. little bit less for seattle. portland does have a chance of about an inch of rain.
