difference between winter parka and a nice, thick jacket. temperatures above freezing and temperatures slightly below freezing this morning. as we head towards noon numbers in the low to mid-50s and highs in the upper 50s and low 60s and eventually those clouds will lead to more rain. now for your first check of your tuesday commute, here's mike. >> rob, looking over here towards the north bay. easy, light drive through san rafael. i'll show you on the map all lanes closed and just after 4:00 they reopened lanes after cleanup and a serious crash. we'll talk more about that in a second. laura will bring you that information. as far as the traffic flow goes. traffic reinstated and that is good news to start your day. we do begin with that breaking news you mentioned hillcrest park after a body was found near one of the trails. within the last couple of

minutes police reveal now this is a homicide investigation. police say walking through the park found the person who died from at least one gunshot wound. he is yet to be identified. bob redell is there right now gathering details from the scene. a live coming up in our next half hour. more breaking news. crews battling an apartment fire on joan vista street. so far what we've learned is that firefighters tell us it appears two or three units caught fire out of a total of four units there. but everyone does appear to be out safely. stephanie chuang headed to the scene and give us a live update in our next hour. also, more breaking news, this time from antioch. police swarmed a 7-eleven store overnight after shots were fired. >> an armed robbery turned violent when the suspect shot the clerk. happened at the 7-eleven store this morning. police have not revealed much about the investigation or the

suspect and we do not know the condition of the clerk. as soon as we hear back, of course, we'll bring you that update. also new this morning, wrongway driver caused a deadly crash in the north bay. chp says the car going north on southbound 101 crashed into a fuel tanker just before midnight. it happened in san rafael near the central san rafael exit. the person in that car died after losing consciousness inside the vehicle. two southbound lanes were blocked for several hours while cal trans crews kore s cleaned from the roadway. the search continues in the streets of southern california this morning for a missing man from the bay area. his family is desperately doing whatever whatever they can to try to find eric polar who vanished last week. >> kris sanchez has been tracking the very latest on the search to find him and the desperate plea from his loved ones. >> these are his parents, sam and laura. down on the streets south of los angeles trying to post posters

of their son looking for any information about what happened to him. they say they fear that something bad happened to their son, eric because no one has heard from him since tuesday. now, as lapd investigators, his parents are pounding the pavement down in l.a. where he is a producer at a special effects company. the last-known himmage of him is on tuesday where he was leaving work without his wallet or his bag. surveillance video shows him in his black range rover pulling into a grocery store parking lot and then phone records show that he switched his phone off. part of the reason his parents are worried. he missed thanksgiving with the family in oakley and also a major work deadline. >> he doesn't have enemies. his normal routine is just like any other 27-year-old boy. >> he went to freedom high school in oakley, so his parent are hoping that perhaps he'll

reach out to some friends or family here in the bay area. we are posting that link to that missing poster on our website. nbcbayarea.com. if you know anything, his parents would certainly love to hear from you. laura? >> let's hope people recognize something. thank you, kris. the man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death after a stense standoff on the peninsula. this is video of anthony kirincic being arrested last night in redwood city. it took a couple hours for police to convince him to surrender. he's accused of killing his ex-girlfriend colleen straw in her san mateo home on saturday. investigators eventually tracked him to his parents' home. >> that put us in a better situation to set up a putim rimter and provide for a safe arrest of the suspect, which is exactly what we did. >> police arrested kirincic for

domestic violence. he was ordered to spend 60 days in jail and to stay away from straw. expected to be in court in the next 48 hours. tuesday morning outlook is cold, but not too cold. >> from cold to i guess very cold yesterday. still 40 in san jose and north bay napa just checked, it was 27 at the top of the hour. so, we still have these pockets of cold air up towards the north bay and at least by the numbers your body may not believe you. four to eight degrees warmer at the same time. extra moisture in the air to help keep those temperatures up just a bit. plan on 30s and 40s through 7:00 this morning and as we head towards lunchtime temperatures in the mid-50s. we should get closer to 60 around the south bay today and upper 50s around san francisco and north bay temperatures close to 60 and tri-valley upper 50s to low 60s. get ready for more rain coming up on thursday and closer look

weeks ago has a very troubled it looks as if the tour bus has crashed in san francisco two weeks ago has a very troubled past. records show that washington, d.c., pulled that bus out of its transit service for safety reasons. the chronicle cites public record. they show the bus rear ended two different vehicles in two separate crashes. the driver of the city sightseeing bus that crashed at union square last month said the brakes stopped working while he was driving. that crash injured 20, seven seriously. tears and grief this morning at children's hospital in oakland as workers mourn the loss of one of their own. nurse patricia alvarez was taken off life support after being struck by a suspected tru eed d

that should stay off towards the north bay today. a lot of moisture in the pacific that will come barreling through as we go late wednesday into thursday. the next few days, a few showers possible and our temperatures will continue to rise as high pressure builds ahead of a thursday storm system that is going to be packing some rain and some wind. highs today warmer. into the low 60s for parts of the south bay and peninsula and san francisco and also seeing some upper 50s. north bay, mostly cloudy skies especially north of santa rosa and highs near 60 there. upper 50s to near 60. tomorrow the warmest day of the week. mid-60s for highs around the south bay up into the north bay, but notice thursday. you have some rain there on the map and thursday we're going to be tracking wind gusts into the morning. 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts out on the coast. looks like the thursday commute pretty messy. thursday morning into thursday afternoon and rainfall projections out of the system

of hillary clinton's e-mails. the state department just released 7,800 more pages of them, some light reading. they are from her time as secretary of state and they include information about the government's initial response to the benghazi attacks. one e-mail, for example, is on talking points about the benghazi demonstrations. they suggest saying they were spontaneously inspired. defeating isis at the top of the agenda for the house armed services committee. they will discuss the u.s. military and political strategy for taking down the terrorist group and a hearing on capitol hill. secretary of defense ashton carter and the joint chief of staff chairman will also attend. the current strategy against isis. a real concern coming up here along with hosting super bowl 5 l in the south bay. kick off a campaign to raise

awareness. that campaign will last until february 7th, the day of the super bowl at levi stadium. law enforcement officials say they traditionally see a spike in human trafficking activities. the campaign to raise general awareness and provide people with the resources to report any suspicious situation. 4:50 right now. about ten years ago, san francisco resident jerry tang disappeared from his neighborhood. we still don't know where he is. his wife is pushing a law to help with the case. billy's law being reintroduced to congress for the fourth time. if passed, it would allow law enforcement and the fbi to share crime information with the national missing person's database. void of thousands of cases that are not recorded since law enforcement are not reported to miss anyone missing under the age of 21. her husband disappeared from their neighborhood on november 29th back in 2005. she has searched for him ever since and thinks this law could

yesterday. we're four to eight degrees warmer and down to mid-30s for morning lows. that's better than the 20s we had yesterday. still cold enough for patchy fog and we're seeing 27 degrees out at the airport. so, 30s and 40s and patch/snow freeze warnings for you as you head towards noon, you'll see numbers mostly in the 50s. a few high clouds at time in the north bay. temperatures around the south bay today should manage close to 60 degrees and into the north bay, 60s and upper 50s around the tri-valley. a warmer day tomorrow and get ready for the return of some rain and wind as we head towards thursday. mike? >> rob, we're looking at a very clear view of the bay bridge from our emoryville camera. and that is heading towards treasure island. now, right there, saw some lights kind of hovering around a couple lanes are affected by a disabled vehicles right now getting cleared just past treasure island but you sththe t of traffic flowing past. we'll show you fremont and palo

alto and south bay and palo alto the same thing on the peninsula. an easy drive around the bay. back to you. >> thank you very much. a san francisco elementary school is becoming a target for thieves for a second time now in just two years. visitation valley middle school has fallen victim to theft. police say this time thieves took off with 26 mountain bikes that were stolen during the thanksgiving break. snapped a ceiling panel to get into the outdoor sheds on campus. now, new skrurt measures are going to be in place on campus. >> there will be a lot of changes. two locks, three locks. maybe have them inside and, you know, just a little more surveillance on the area just to make sure that we can protect the things that we care about and the resources that are here for the kids. >> school says that the owner of that local grocery outlet has stepped in to cover the cost of the bikes. the thieves are still on the loose.

today is world aids day. last night hundreds gathered in san francisco to remember those who died from the disease. part of the annual light in the grove event in golden gate park. the memorial was illuminated with the names of people who have passed away. some 3,200 names are etched in stone there. organizers say they're hopeful of a future without aids and hiv. >> 20 years ago, none of us thought that we would still be here, you know, without a cure. but i can personally say that myself as a man living with hiv for the last 15 years that we made great advances. >> people were asked to record their stories of survival or loss for future generations to lose more about the aids epidemic. >> so many people, obviously. 4:56. coming up, children slide swings and crime scene tape. investigators scouring a park in antioch after a midnight call reveals a violent crime. but, first, a live look outside from the south bay this

they look like they just cleared. traffic is jamming up the incline heading around that bend. looked like the incident and the stalled vehicles may have cleared from the span. let's look at the bay bridge toll plaza. that backup to the bottom of the incline has not reached the toll plaza. these folks on the roadway, they actually are waiting for the prices to change. bad, bad, folks. you're not supposed to do that. the span should be cleared in the next few minutes and the rest of your bay moves very smoothly. no problems peninsula or east bay or even silicon valley. back to you. >> very busy morning for breaking news this morning. within the last 30 minutes, crews put out a fire at an apartment complex in the east bay. stephanie chuang is live right now. you're hearing everyone made it out safely. >> yes. that's the good news. everyone made it out safely. no one really hurt, although there is a woman there who seems to be kind of recovering from some panic. apparently she was the one in the apartment unit where this fire started around 3:30 this
