over near the golden gate bridge, mist and drizzle there. even in the south bay we're looking at low clouds reducing visibility. temperatures are going to warm back in the 60s for the inland, san francisco, mid 50s and lots and lots of clouds. we'll talking more about a storm system headed our way by midweek. in the meantime, let's see how it's looking on the roads. the traffic flow itself looking well. over toward the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights are on. look at the bay bridge. it's getting hit by the frog. clouds drifting across our view and it's going to be an issue as you cross over between san francisco and oakland. the map shows you no big deals. fog in the knot bay, tough to see at times. but the south bay you'll have your patches as well. thank you very much, mike. new this morning, a massive earthquake strikes the asian

nation of that jeek stan. the tremor hit east of the capital shaking buildings from cities of afghanistan all the way to india. this video taken from china, a neighboring country shows how intense the shaking was. no word on damage or injuries. in the throes of investigation deemed as act of terrorism. that is what president obama has officially declared last week's shooting rampage in san bernardino during a rare oval office address. >> we have team coverage on the speech and a nu twist in the investigation. let's go to chris sanchez to break down what our president said. his message was very clear. >> he addressed that specifically saying that the world's billion muslims, including the millions of muslim americans in this country should be treated like allies and not the enemy.

before we get hit here at home. >> for the last hour, homeland security secretaonretary jaye j has been specking. scott mcgrew is adrszs part of the story in ten minutes. we're learning more about the shooters in the san bernardino massacre. the fbi has now taken a closer look at the suspect's families for crews. >> bob redell joining us now. that includes farook's mother who is being investigated who was living in the apartment with the couple. >> correct. yes, the u.s. department of justice now investigating the moort of syed farook who along with iz wife shot and killed 14 people last week. the mother lived h her son in daughter-in-law in redlands. the feds want to know if she

knew what the couple was up to. considering that the husband and wife built at least 15 pipe bombs and stock piled nousss of rounds of ammunition in the home. the two rifles they used for bought by a friend and neighbor of farook. that man is so distraught, he stuck himself into a mental health facility, not clear if he's facing charges. investigators don't know what role if any isis played in the couple's radicalization. the wife tashfeen malik pledged allegiance to isis just before the attack. >> she's the girl next door, the kind that's always smiling, nice to you. you would never ever guess that that girlfriend would have tie to isis. >> malik's family also expressed shock believing she must have been influenced by someone. but there is no evidence that isis directed her or her husband or knew who they were before the

justice. more fallout is expected after san francisco opened fire killing a man last week. now many are calling for the police chief to revine. stephanie chuang is live in our news room this morning. the naacp is going to call a special meeting in a call to action. >> it will. strong words from the group which says ferguson, missouri is happening every day on the streets of san francisco. anger still boiling over after a tense community meeting on friday. >> you need to be taken out of office! >> an angry crowd overtaking the meeting. police calling for the police chief to quit after he was trying to explain that his officers shot and killed 26-year-old mario woods because she refused to drop a knife. some made demands for reform if the police department with new policies to curb excessive force and grant's uncle called for the people to organize and pressure

to district attorney's office to place charged against the afpd. this is triggered from the video posted on the social media. police say the smooth happened after woods was talking to himself, swinging a knife and stabbed him in the should are. they first used pepper spray before opening fire. police commissioners plan to review the procedures while the chief is talking with experts on deescalation techniques. but the naacp is saying the mayor needs to step up as well as supervisors calling the special meeting at 6:00 tonight at the third baptist church on mcalister. also happening today, reviewing police policies in the north bay. folks there will discuss ongoing changes that are being made in response to a deputy shooting that drew national attention. sonoma county leaders launched a

task force following the 2013 shooting that killed 13-year-old andy lopez. investigators determined he was holding an authentic looking bb e gun but the deputy who fired was never charged with a crime. they're looking to improve community relations. tonight's meeting is focus tond public's response to the changes. be careful who you meet online. uc berkeley police are investigating a sexual assault. police say the victim met the alleged attacker on the internet. the two met off campus on berkeley. the investigators are not released a lot of information about the suspect, only saying he's a 26-year-old man. now changes are in the works, not just today, anthony, where you're following a lot of fog but for the rest of the week too. >> we're finally in the rain season. the next seven days we have two is storm systems.

miss involving a d a 6:13 right now. bay area man faces possible federal charges after a near miss involving a drone and a chp helicopter. the crew veered quickly away to avoid striking the drone. it happened saturday night. the chopper was flying around 800 feet when the crew noticed a red light coming closer and closer and then the pilot had to take quick action to get out of the way. >> i didn't know what it was. and from our perspective i thought it was, you know, substantial distance away. but we shortly realized it wasn't. >> the pilot says that the drone might have gone through the windshield. he followed it until it land pd. authorities must decide whether or not to file charges. the f action a wants all drones to be register pd. federal agency announced the regulations back in november. they want to be able to trace

visibility outside. lots of fog and mist. >> we haven't seen much fog and mist this season because we've seen so many bright sunny dies. here's a shot from san francisco -- >> what can you see? >> the bay bridge is back there somewhere, trust me. this morning we're looking at cloud cover that's going to be extensive. once we get rid of the fog, we've got a storm system that's bringing rain this upcoming week. it's been range all weekend long across the pacific northwest. and you can see the cloud cover across the poacific. that's our storm system. we're looking at fogs and clouds and mist. by the afternoon we'll hang on to the cloud kor. temperatures are going to be cooler. you can see even aer every microclimate looking at fog and clouds. mid 60s for the inland valleys and mid 50s for san francisco.

san mateo up to 60, 56 for pacifica. san jose you'll see more sunshine than the rest of the bay area, 63 for mill valley. now as we move towards wednesday, fast forward, showers are in the bay area north bay on wednesday morning. it's going to rain all day wednesday and thursday. by thursday the rest of the bay area gets in on the action and'er talking about heavy rain thursday morning and afternoon. and strong winds abz wes well. we're talking of the potential of upwards of an inch and a half. the coastal mountains could see upwards of 3 to 5 inches. in the pacific northwest believe it or not, they're going to get up to 15 inches in places like seattle and vancouver and portland. also expects some big time sierra snow, upwards of two feet of snow on thursday and friday.

where you're talking about the fog, how is it looking? the roads are moving well but looking at the roads, tough at times. there's the high-rise. folks coming out of the fog westbound, you can see the commute is picking up with the volume. traffic is getting along just fine here. you should slow down if you encounter the fog. here's south 880 shows a little slowing but not so bad into fremont. there's some glass debris around 292. meanwhile, the upper east slows down a little bit and recovery from the early morning fender bender. cleared from the toll plaza at the bay prij. orange is where the fog is. and the south bay we're looking at north 101 at san jose just a little bit of backup there. we're going to end with this map and send it right back to you.

lived with farook and his wife in a home where they were stock piling pipe bombs and ammunition. investigators found no direct link between isis and the couple who carried out wednesday's massacre that killed 14 people in san bernardino. the feds also don't know if isis knew of farook or tashfeen malik before the attack. now in malik's home country of pakistan, the interior minister said there is no link between her and extremists in that country. at the pakistani college where she earned a pharmacy degree, she was considered a muslim but not a support of the violence. the school insist shes was not radicalized there. >> radical approach, radical minded culture, nothing like that. >> that's malik's family in pakistan. they're also expressing shock. they believe she must have been influenced by someone but again there's no evidence that isis directed her or her husband or again even knew of them before the attack.

certainly not forgotten. 6:35 right now. happening later today, more fallout expected after the san francisco officers open fire killing a man last week. many are calling for the san francisco police chief to resign. stephanie chuang joining us live from the san francisco news room. the naacp is going to hold a special meeting and a call for action following the latest police shooting. >> that's right. the naacp now calling on the mayor and supervisors to step up if they want to avoid more unrest. heat is turned on the police chief to tried unsuccessfully to calm an angry crowd at friday's community meeting. [ inaudible ] he's saying there let me finish, but there was a demand for the police chief to quick. they shot and killed 26-year-old

mario woods because he refused to drop a knife and moved closer to the officers who fired nonlethal bean bag rounds and used pepper spray to subdue the suspect. some say the answer is reform in the sfpd because the officers were only executing what they had been trained to do. this stems most recently from the video posted on social media which appears to show five police officers opening nier on woods. this is in the bay view district on wednesday. the shooting after after a man told sheriff's deputy he was talking to himself, stabbed himself in the shoulder. police commissioners say in the meantime they're reviewing procedures but the naacp hosting a special meeting asking the public to join at 6:00 at the third baptist church on mcalister. stephanie chuang today in the

bay. happening today, san francisco leaders may try to simplify the play book when it comes to upcoming super bowl events. a lot of ideas has been floatings around about safety. no far nothing has been nailed down. but members of the land, use and transportation committee will discuss the yield signs. bicyclists protested last year. happening right now a potentially dangerous mix brewing in the pacific ocean for boaters and beach goers. large waves and strong rips are forecasted right now through tomorrow morning, especially north and northwest facing beaches. the coast guard is advising anyone who braves the water up and down the coast to be extra careful. everyone should fly near a lifeguard if possible and make sure you use the buddy system. >> don't turn your back on the waves. >> anthony was saying 20-foot

super sized forecast in size for you. >> wednesday and thursday we're talking about the biggest storm of the season moving through the bay area producing inches of rain and feet of snow. we're finding some drizzle this morning ahead of the storm system that's moving through the northwest. that's why we have fog in place this morning and quite a bit of drizzle. we're looking at 50s across the board this morning because of the fog. as we go into san jose, that's the one spot we haven't seen fog so bad. but visibility starting to lower here. the low clouds starting to drift across the horizon. we're going to get rid of the fog but hanging on to the clouds. 56 for pacifica, 60 in san mateo, cloud covered in san francisco so that means the temperatures cool today barely hitting 60 degrees, 57 for so ma, 58 for san jose and near 60 degrees for the east bay.

sunshine-for-the tri-valley, temperatures in the low 60s. as we fast forward, this is wednesday morning. the first showers will start to arrive from the storm system. wednesday expect for on and off showers for the north bay really all day long and that's why we're expecting the most because you're not talking -- we're talking about several days of rain. sunday morning, we'll see showers across the entire bay area all day thursday and that's why we're expecting the potential of upcard of an inch at the valley floor, main an inch and a half in san francisco. get toward the coastal mountains across the north bay, we could see 3 to 5 inches of rain. and again this would be the biggest storm system we've seen all season long if the model projections come through. upwards of two feet for tahoe by the time we get into friday. twosomes co-- we'll talk about e

weekend weather as the morning goes along. let's toss things over to mike now. moving pretty well. we'll show you oakland where a few minutes ago it was tough to see the roadway. now we can see knot bound 880 approaching the coliseum. the low clouds are drifting around between the roof top cameras and the road awawaysroa. drivers don't seem to be having a problem. slow west 24 off the walnut creek roadway. a motorcycle down and maybe two other vehicles involved and we have one lane blocked. that's the big slowdown and that will be clear on aren da. slower drive still for southbound 680 as well as 880.
