nice and mild out there. we are tracking rain, especially across parts of northern california. that's where we have thick fog and lots of cloud cover. the north bay, hard to make out anything. even in san francisco and emeryville, hard to see much below. as we move lieu the day we'll see sunshine at least through the south bay, east bay and peninsula. it will be generally cloudy today. in the north, we'll start to see showers as soon as 7:00 this morning. we'll time out the storm and how much we can see with the latest updates. morning commute is about what you would expect. you see a few cars coming into the city. what you don't see quite so clearly are the lights. a lot of glow and clouds hovering right around that deck. so fog will be an issue as we look at your map. we talked about fog being distributed differently than in the past few days. you see most of it in the north bay. the rest of your bay is smooth. speed indicators are green. back to you. thank you very much, mike.

4:31. a home invasion in the east bay. a nanny pistol whipped in front of a 6-year-old girl. >> this is one of the safest and most insulated neighborhoods in the bay area. you can still see the footprints on the front door where the home invasion began yesterday afternoon. a nanny and karen yim's 5-year-old daughter were inside. a man with a handgun kicked in the door. >> i'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that's happened. obviously startled and scared. a lot of emotions right now. >> they walked through the house going drawer through drawer, upstairs and down stairs looking for money. at one point the suspect actually pistol whipped the nanny in the head, causing a laceration. >> frightening, she is okay. the nanny was treated at a hospital. the girl wasn't hurt. >> the family says they took off

with money and the car. police say the suspect is wanted for home invasion and burglary and could also be facing charges of kidnapping and carjacking. >> it's been exactly one week since the terror attack shook san bernardino. now investigators are tracing a money trail including thousands of dollars that showed up in the suspect's bank account. shooters reportedly took out an online loan for $28,000 weeks before the attackment the money may have been for syed farook and tash feed mafeen /* authorities are still investigating that claim. investigators continue to also sift through evidence for clues. we're getting our first look at the conference room where the couple killed 14 people last

we week, a day first responders say they will never forget. >> there was a female there with a small child that was just terrified, just shivering almost, shaking like a leaf. and i said what i said. i meant what i said. it's nothing short of what any other person in law enforcement would do. i don't feel like a hero whatsoever. anyone behind me or any one of the 300 people who were there would have said the same thing. legislation tightening controls on travel to the u.s. is heading the the senate. the house just approved the bill. among other things it requires visas for anyone who has been in iraq and syria for the past five years. the measure takes aims at the

visa waiver program, it allows citizens of 38 country, most in western europe, to travel to the u.s. visa-free. belgium and france are among the participating countries. the president is expected to sign that legislation if it makes it to its desk. >> back in the bay area, the attack in sbreern has contra costa safety officials rethinking. many questioned whether contra costa county health and social service facilities have enough safeguards in place, expanding i.d. checks and limiting entryways to facilities were among several i.d.s explored at. the sheriff pointed to recent active shooter training exercises. it's 4:35 right now. federal disaster relief efforts are concerned about el nino. the wetter-than-normal el nino

day. temperatures across the mid 60s. cool in the north bay with showers arriving in just a couple hours. things more interesting on your computers than mine. here is the commute westbound through dublin. there are patches of fog around the bay, but not for this portion. one thing that's more interesting, the green on my maps, just the sensors, no slowing outside of the altamont pass and a smooth drive toward the dublin interchange. a little fog farther north of the carquinez bridge. a clear view all across the bridge. you can make out the flat section and the high-rise. >> thank you very much, mike. he's a big warriors fan. a lot of you are, too. they continue their winning ways. 23 now to start the season. also an overwhelming decision helping the warriors with a full-court press off the court as well. >> parents just saying no to game prevention in their children's school. why they say it's a waste of time.

president calls it a relief. >> it's a culmination of so much work. >> any other development on that site consistent with the existing land use n titlements would generate a lot more revenue to the city than this. >> the mission bay alliance has 30 days to take legal action against the project. the warriors hope to be playing in san francisco in less than three years. parents in the east bay not pleased with a new program that just got the go-ahead to be taught to their fifth graders, especially not pleased with who is teaching. >> parents and teachers protested outside city hall in san leandro. they wanted the school board to vote no on a federally funded gang prevention program taught by police. parents say the six-week, six-hour course wastes valuable teaching time and gives officers too much power. the board voted to test the program at two elementary schools in san leandro. schools have the option to opt out. we know firefighters save

seattle and portland. think of it as a pinwheel, a series of storms that will bring several inches of rain toward the bay area. the first one arrives today: you'll notice as we take a live look outside the golden gate bridge, you can see the fog for the past few mornings. we'll get rid of the fog sooner than we did the past few mornings. we have a very active pacific happening right now. you can see there's the mother load i was telling you about. and there's the smaller storm that will be moving into the bay area. it's going to start to move into the bay area as soon as this morning. very fast moving. as we put the futurecast into motion, you'll notice by 7:00, we'll start to see our first showers across parts of the north bay. as we move into about 9:00, santa rosa, you'll see showers. towards noon we may get light drizzle across parts of san francisco. this will fizzle out by today. by this evening, most of us will stay dry. by 9:00, that's when we'll start to see more showers develop

across parts of the north bay. this is the timing to watch for everybody. 4:30 in the morning tomorrow is when we'll see heavy rain approach the north bay. the bachbd's squall line will move through 7:00, south bay, peninsula, that's tomorrow morning. we'll dry out by lunchtime and still hang on to the potential for a few thunderstorms es sprlly as we get into thursday night. micro climate forecast for wednesday, pacifica, unlimited sun, 66. temperatures warming because of the head of the system you get warm air that mixes in. 59 degrees in santa rosa today. again, the north bay will see showers at least by 7:00 this morning. the east bay and the tri-valley stays dry today. temperatures mild, back to the mid 60s. what's it look like along the roads now. >> looking just like this, palo alto, 101, an easy drive right now. we'll look at the map and there is the calm before the storm. also the call for december. we don't tend to see as much traffic flow.

continue. oil is edging higher this morning after hitting its lowest level in nearly seven years. there could be pressure today when the government releases its weekly report on u.s. oil supplies. the dow dropping 162 points to 16568, the nasdaq down three to 5098. many americans are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing rent. a new study shows a record number of rinters are paying more than 30%, and in some cases half of their income on housing costs. those in low and middle income households are over burdened by rent which have risen more than 3% a year. home ownership rates are at 50-year lows, lingering effects. improving job prospects. apple has reportedly shelved plans to develop a live tv streaming service. it planned to offer a bundle of about 14 channels for $30 to $40

but ran into resistance from media companies who want more cash for their content. instead apple says it will be the marketplace for selling to customers directly through its app store. >> landon dowdy, thank you very much. at 4:49. electric vehicle owners have more options when it comes to getting a charge in the south bay. the city of cupertino unveiling several new charging stations. the chargers are going online thanks to a grant from a region-wide effort thanks to the bay area charge ahead project. crews are installing more than 150 charge ports in high priority areas where electrical vehicles are common. it's 4:49. sad news this morning for a well-known bay area company. co-founder of north face, doug tom kins died after suffering severe hypothermia after his kayak capsized.

douglas tom kins helped forge the north face's mantra to never stop exploring from the very beginning in 1966. when he opened the north face in san francisco's north beach neighborhood, the company is now headquartered in alameda. he's made quite a difference. >> it's everywhere. 4:50. you might have heard of this one before. a firefighter going out of his way to deliver a baby in the parking lot. listen to the twist on this one. this time a san francisco firefighter bringing his own son into the world. >> reporter: this calm little baby boy lucas came into this world a lot faster than anyone expected. >> i knew we weren't going to make to it the hospital. >> reporter: michelle was in labor and husband charles was racing them to the hospital in santa cruz. they only made it two miles from home when she yelled it's time. >> his head was peeking out.

it was imminent. >> reporter: charles who is a deputy fire marshal at the presidio of san francisco called 911 and called into the sheriff's substation in felton because he knew help was nearby. >> he did not give me very much time before he entered the world. >> michelle said the baby is coming. she slipped out of the car and leaned over the seat and i got into position and delivered the baby. i believe she pushed two times and the baby was born. >> reporter: but there were other challenges. the umbilical cord was wrapped around lucas' neck. >> he wasn't breathing immediately. it took a while for him to start breathing and he had fluid in his lungs so it was touch and go. we were worried about it. but then you could hear him cry and it got better. >> reporter: a minute later emergency crews arrived. now mom, baby, even dad are all fine. they can laugh about this story they'll tell of lucas' birth. >> i don't think he'll ever live it down. i think he'll hear it for the rest of his life.

convenience store. a warmer day especially pour the inland valleys where we'll manage a little sunshine. mid 60s expected there and even across parts of san francisco. you'll get up to 65 degrees. you always get warmer air ahead of a storm system. then the rain starts in the north bay around 7:00 this morning. we'll track the rain for you and give you the timing. in the meantime, here is mike tracking the morning commute. >> right now things are very calm. we see that zipper truck moving, zipping along the center divide and getting ready for the morning commute. you see the clouds hovering right there and actually touching the deck on the lower side of the golden gate bridge. we're looking at that as an issue. no problems seeing the eastshore freeway, but right above it you can see the glow and the low clouds hovering around. they'll touch your clouds around the treasure island area. we look toward fremont. this is what the rest of the bay looks like. a light traffic flow. you're at speeds for all of your commute. no problems with visibility

other than the fog in the north bay. back to you. >> a massive patch of warm ocean water in the pacific now gone. marine biologists were calling it affectionately the blob. water temperatures as high as seven degrees above normal. the massive warmer water is blamed on causing the food chain to go haywire. large numbers of sea lions have starved. increased toxins in crabs and shell fish. experts think cooler seasonal storms helped to break up the blob. >> two years ago san onofre closed following a generator failure. ratepayers are still on the hook for $3 billion. critics are asking for more transparency in how it all went down. ratepayers are demanding the cpuc release e-mails that may

shed light on the role governor brown had in having san onofre closed. at today's hearing, both sides will try to negotiate a solution. toxic allergy blooting lake del val. even dogs can't get in the water. the toxic algae blooms have hit several lakes in the east way. it causes itchy skin, diarrhea, vomiting and headaches. researchers are trying to discover what is causing the algae blooms. coming up, hope for the best and plans for el nino. san francisco leaders want people to be safe with wetter weather on the way. now we get to find out how they'll make that happen. >> simply shaken up and shocked. an east bay home invasion in far rin da turns violent. the bay area this morning--
