looking for we are not going to discuss but we are seeking evidence of anything that had to do with this particular crime. >> with investigators saying teams may canvas neighborhoods the feds are pressing enrique marquez. officials say he is talking to the fbi after going on a drinking binge following the massacre and now feels remorse. police say he bought the assault rifles used in the shooting. he has not been charged in the crime. >> enrique purchased the rifles for syed and his wife. >> many who knew marquez said she didn't know he was married. that wife, a ukrainian national is related to syed farook's brother by marriage. officials tell nbc news they are looking into whether that marriage was a sham, a favor marquez did for farook. investigators say

marquez told them farook discussed staging an attack in 2012. when four local men were arrested for plotting to kill u.s. soldiers in afghanistan he got cold feet. >> i'm not going to address anything to do with mr. marquez. >> reporter: with investigators chasing new leads the fear roles have begun. the first of more ceremonies to come today, celebrating life after death. this morning the fbi won't say if they believe the shooters were here before or after their massacre but they are searching this area for evidence, doing all they can to find the latest leads. >> thank you very much. individual states are taking action in the wake of the mass shooting in san bernardi bernardino. connecticut governor says he plans to sign an executive order banning gun sales to people on the terror watch list.

officials are working with the federal government to get access to the list. already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. a tip from the cia is leading to a new man hunt in switzerland. what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning. geneva is now the city in focus on a heightened threat level this morning. the u.s. embassy is advising americans in the city to maintain a high level of vigilance and take steps to enhance their personal security. this as geneva police are searching for at least four suspects because of a possible terrorist threat. a senior u.s. counter terrorism official tells nbc news that the cia tipped off swiss authorities that several suspects were likely in or around geneva. this morning there are

signs of increased security in parts of the city, a rare site at the united nations complex, heavily armed security guards with automatic weapons there, talks on syria were scheduled to take place today. that meeting has now been moved to a secret location. security has been beefed up at bord er crossings from france into geneva. one paris suspect is still on the run and now a fresh manhunt in switzerland. >> thank you very much. tell you more about a story we told you in the open. a deadly crash of a medical helicopter in california happened overnight and tamron has the story. >> all four people on the helicopter died. now federal investigators are looking into what caused the accident. >> what began as emergency medical evacuation ended in

tragedy when an air ambulance crashed in route to the hospital. officials say it was supposed to be a ten minute flight. the helicopter took off at about 6:52 p.m. less than 15 minutes later ems dispatched failed to make contact with the aircraft during a routine safety check. >> unable to confirm the tail number but it is recognizable as sky life. >> about 15 miles north of bakersfield, california. the medical team's final destination. all four people on board, pilot, paramedic, nurse and patient were killed. their names have not been released but the ceo of american ambulance says they were an experienced team. >> we're rallying together, crying, providing support to one another, telling stories and grieving. >> officials say bad weather made the search efforts

difficult but it is not yet known if the same conditions caused the crash. >> we ran into fog and heavy rain trying to get in by foot. it took us quite sometime to get there. >> this morning the ntsb will begin the investigation. >> at this time we have no idea of what the cause was or what may have led to the tragedy. >> officials are working to contact the family of the victims. >> imagine this, riding a train and realize the operator was not on board. that terrifying situation happened in boston on thursday morning. there were initial concerns that someone may have tampered with the train. ron mott is on this investigation. >> reporter: good morning. officials say the operator brought the train into the station behind me yesterday and then got off to

investigate a problem. >> the red line train left the station south of boston on thursday as usual. only problem is about 50 passengers found their operator wasn't where he should have been. at the controls the sex cars blowing past several stations. >> we were just flying through the stations. >> if we had kept at that speed we would have derailed. >> for nine long minutes the train sped along the tracks mile after mile with terrified passengers. workers realized the problem immediately clearing trains ahead cutting power bringing the train to a halt. only then did passengers discover the reason why. >> the people on the first car were trying to knock on the door of the conductor and we discovered nobody was there. >> expressed skepticism about the cause. >> it is pretty clear that it was set in forward motion which is why it moved in the

first place when the signal was manipulated. >> officials say the operator was placed on administrative leave while investigators probe whether human error was to blame and he received minor injuries as it moved out of the area. this morning passengers boarded the train where the drama began. >> a few years ago cut a second worker from the train and a union official said those extra hands would have been helpful yesterday to get the train stopped much sooner. a spokesperson told nbc news this incident had nothing to do with that. back to you. >> ron mott in boston. >> there is fallout over controversial comments made by supreme court justice scalia on the discussion of affirmative action.

during oral arguments scalia said some black students do better at less advanced schools on slower tracks. spokesman josh earnest said the comments represent a different view from values that the president has spent his career talking about. scalia is a known skeptic of systems that consider an applicant's race as part of college entry decisions. a big story out of oklahoma city where a former police officer accused of raping more than a dozen women was convicted thursday on numerous counts. daniel holtzclaw began to sob when the first of counts was read. the women testified and said that the assaults took place inside his squad car or while they were in custody. the jury has recommended a prison sentence of 263 years.

investigators this morning ar good morning, 7:26. i'm kris sanchez. investigators are trying to sort out what led to a deadly, head-on crash in san jose. happened midnight on alan rock avenue near the kirk avenue ramp. one car had four people inside. two of them died and the chp says the other two passengers left the scene. officers later found each of them at separate hospitals. the driver of the other car, a pickup truck, suffered serious injuries, as well. investigators do not believe that wet roads were a factor here, but they are still trying to determine if the driver who died was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. and speaking of wet roadways, let's check in with meteorologist kari hall whose radar is still working overtime. heavy rain through fremont and

teenager, laquan mcdonald. critics accuse emanuel and the state's attorney of covering up alleged police misconduct, at one point demonstrators staged a so-called die-in by lying down in the street. the search for the brother of tv reality star kristin cavallari has ended. livy was found dead thursday in southern utah nearly two weeks after his car was discovered there with its air bag deployed. officials say there was no sign of foul play. cavallari had been arrested last month for allegedly making threats against a woman he knew. kristin cavallari issued a statement thanking fans for their support and asking for privacy. more than a million bottles of sweet leaf ice tea are being recalled because the company says they could contain glassing fromments. it has received four complaints about glass but no word on any injuries. the recall covers six different flavors of sweet leaf in six-ounce glass bottles. plastic bottles are not affected

good morning. it's 8:26. i'm kris sanchez. investigators trying to sort out what led up to a deadly head-on crash in san jose. of it happened a little before midnight right near kirk avenue. one car had four people inside. two of them died. the chp says the other two passengers left the scene. however, officers later found each of them at several hospitals. the driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck suffered serious injuries. investigators say it does not look like wet roads were a factor. they are trying to determine whether the driver who died was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. we will look at weather and traffic. let's start with mike. >> we are looking over here toward the remnants of rain having traveled through the

>> instead of taking kids who know sports and all that, he takes kids who don't know sports and he encourages them that way. >> i have a son and i refer to him a lot as a miracle baby. he was born at 24 weeks and had a breathing tube and kept pulling the breathing tube out and they finally said he's telling us something and he started breathing on his own and they said that's symbolic of what kind of kid this would be, a kid that would overcome all these obstacles. >> felix junior's passion is photography and his eye for football has brought him and his father closer together. >> this is kind of the base for our relationship, you know. kind of started a new age of understanding with each other. >> if he didn't have this league, i don't know if they would be as close as they are right now. >> i'm definitely proud of him, you know, like seeing how he makes a difference in people's lives. >> hall of famer anthony munoz and his son also run football camps that make a difference in kids' lives.

weekend. investigators do not believe that weather factored into a deadly head-on crash overnight in san jose. one car had four people inside of it, two of the passengers died. the other two left the scene. officers later found them at separate hospitals getting treatment. the driver of the other truck, a pickup truck, suffered serious injuries. investigators are now trying to figure out if the driver who died was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. we want to find out exactly what the rest of the storm shapes out for the rest of the day, we'll check in with kari hall and mike on your traffic right after this.

taking a look at headlines, a new problem is looming for president obama's affordable care act. congress is getting closer to an agreement that would delay the so-called cadillac tax provision for two years. that's the tax on expensive employer-sponsored health plans. it would generate an estimated $90 billion over ten years. it's scheduled to take effect in 2018. and more than a million bottles of sweet leaf ice tea are being recalled because the company says they could contain glass fragments. it has received four complaints about glass, but no word of any injuries. the recall covers six different flavors the sweat leaf in 16-ounce glass bottles. plastic bottles are not effective and the three largest u.s. airlines are now banning so-called hover board because of the potential fire danger from the lithium ion batteries that

power the devices. delta, american and united said thursday hoverboards will not be allowed in checked or carry-on luggage. jetblue airways have always prohibited them. the news comes on the heefls several recent incidents including one at a seattle-area mall in which a hoverboard burst into flames. and now to some stunning video first. it's important to note the cyclists that you're about to see is okay. now, this is surveillance video at a train crossing in poland. the 26-year-old cyclist ignored the crossing gate and blows right past it. he slams directly into a high-speed train and is sent tumbling through the air. a different angle shows the accident on the opposite side of the tracks. amazingly this man is okay. he was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. that is incredible to see that. we've been talking about that all morning let's get a check of something else we've been talking about, of course, the weather with al. >> thanks so much, tamron. let's look at your weekend outlook. here we go.
