>> if you have kids, you will probably fall ready because they will wake you up and be ready to open presents. we could have a little christmas miracle in the bay area. do you see the rain to the north of us? it's cold in spots and chilly enough for there to be the possibility of snow flakes flying across the bay area, and now we see spotty light rain in some of the higher elevations in the hills. look at the temperatures in the north bay. it's 29 degrees, and in the south bay, it's 37 degrees, and highs today will be to the lower 50s with a lot of sunshine once this last batch of rain or snowflakes moves through. i will detail that and what to expect coming up in just a few minutes, sam and kira. we are getting new images of the tornado spotted over the el dorado hills to folsom lake

around 4:00 p.m. no injuries, but the twister left a trail behind of damage. the national weather service says it's possible a second tornado touched down near modesto, and they will survey the area today. there were no tornadoes in the bay area, but some places saw this hail. pea sized hail thanks to dropping temperatures there. believe it or not, some of the higher elevations like mt. hamilton did see a dusting of snow. this is the view from the lick observatory around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. i-80 shut down after a b rig lost control and collided with a highway cruiser. this meant drivers going at slower speeds and stopping to add changes to their tires. 22 more inches are expected, and you can get personalized holiday

forecast for yourself here on your smartphone or tablet. by the way, the app is free. the man accused of threatening to kill muslims in richmond is out on bail this morning and his release is sparking concerns among many community members in that city. he allegedly shouted death threats at muslims earlier this month and police found a pipe bomb at his home. there has been a growing number of threats and violence towards the muslim community. muslims and nonmuslims gathered to stand in solidarity. >> we have children and families and we have come here and this is a safe place and we have been in the community for long time. >> this belongs to everyone. who lives here.

>> selly is due back in court for a preliminary hearing. richmond police say they are running extra patrols by the islamic area and sully's neighborhood. a son was shaken at the hands of the babysitter. 17-month-old thompson died in her care. they believed the babysitter was innocent until police say she confessed to them. >> she had a hard day, and she just grabbed him and just started shaking him uncontrollably and said that he slipped out of her hands and

fell to the floor. i know no punishment will bring my son back, but she doesn't deserve to be able to come back and do this to anybody else's kid. >> earlier this week the babysitter told our sister station kcra in sacramento in a jailhouse interview, she is innocent and never touched the toddler. dozens of people filled city hall in san francisco yesterday. they want the mayor to take action over the deadly shooting over woods. that demonstration was described as loud but peaceful. mario woods was shot 14 times by police officers earlier in the month. police only opened fire as he moved towards an officer with a knife in his hands. the chief has defended his officers' actions saying the

officers were threatened and woods' family agrees and filed a lawsuit and there are at least three active veinvestigation in the shooting. pg & e crews were able to restore power last night, more than five hours after the garbage truck pulled down the fire lines. it happened near 3:00 p.m. near story road. 800 homes were left in the dark. >> the power lines were flashing. i thought this telephone pole was going to fall down and it started flashing over here in front of my house here, and, yeah, it was pretty scary. >> this affected people in the allen rock neighborhood. if you did not make a last-minute rush for christmas gifts last night, you have to make them yourself, and most of the stores closed for the

layers. we have one last batch of rain to the north of us, and a wintry weather mix in there, and it's still dry in the bay area, and mostly clear skies. 41 degrees in san francisco, and look at the north bay, it's 29 degrees, and in the east bay, it's also in the low 30s in some spots, and very close to freezing in doubling and walnut creek and the castro valley now at 35 degrees. and the future cast brings in that rain shortly before 9:00 this morning, when temperatures are very cold, and then the rest of the day we get some sunshine as we dry out. we're only looking at highs in the 50s for the next few days, but the mornings will be the big story as we have freeze warnings in effect and i will show you how low the temperatures get, and that's coming up in less than ten minutes. coming up next, fedex ran

out on the roads this morning, and i was like, where are you going? as we look from san bruno mountains, there's still a breeze and you can tell by the camera shaking around. we will have one last potential for snowflakes across the area, and our temperatures continue to dip in that system. it's 29 degrees, and 39 in the peninsula. a closer look at the khrout bay where we are in the 30s, and willow glen, 33 degrees, and downtown, 33 degrees, and in the peninsula, 39. the winds staying breezy coming in from the north, and we can tell by the camera we have at least a 15-mile-per-hour wind, and that stays with us throughout the day and afternoon and then tonight the wind shift from the north calms down, and then in the future cast shows

spotty light rain for parts of the north bay, and once again, temperatures there are very chilly. and it moves into san jose by 7:00 this morning, and that may still produce a little snow on mt. hamilton, and we will watch the santa cruz mountains for that batch of light rain that could produce snowflakes, but not expecting anything that can accumulate, but beautiful on this christmas morning. as we go into the weekend, another chance of rain late sunday evening into early monday, but the highs staying in the 50s from all of our microclimates. once again, that weekend forecast brings in some cool air the with highs in the 50s for both, friday, saturday and also on sunday as the rain moves in. expected low temperatures are still expected to dip down below freezing and that's the reason why we are do have a freeze warning in effect, and it includes the central valley, but those lows dipping into the 20s
