warm air settling in, once again. we will keep the freezing temperatures as we go into the late night and early morning hours. still some rain farther to the north, but i think a lot of nat will be basically fizzling out. some rain moving off to the east and wet roads left behind. 38 degrees in the east bay and looking at highs today reaching into the low 50s. it will at least be sunny as we go into the day. i'll detail that and what to expect into the next several mornings. >> water happening on the roadways in san jose. look at that. you kind of see it kicking up between these few cars. there you go. so, that's the green on your maps right here and thank you for that timing. now, looking over here, the only thing of note, really, because of the wet roads. they are starting to taper off and wetter conditions for 580. west 580 coming in towards north

liv livermore avenue. sound like a single car on the shoulder. now to breaking news, a deadly fire at an apartment complex in oakland this morning. fire departments were called to apartments just up from the oakland coliseum a little after 1:00 in the morning. they found a couple apartments on fire. after they extinguish the flames, they found two bodies in the unit. right now he's gathering more details and an update from damian in our next half hour. as temperatures continue to plummet, thousands of customers are without service this morning. >> yesterday the area experienced a loss of pressure and may be linked to the recent cold snap. about 200 workers sent to try to resolve the issue and they shut off valves to make sure the gas wouldn't get into homes. in one neighborhood, folks spent the evening in the driveway just trying to warm up.

>> there's no gas. we took out the fire pit and we had all christmas leftover dinners and came over and heated up in the microwave and all ate here. >> they're going it together. pg&e along with the red cross opened two warming shelters located at timber point elementary school and discovery bay community center. pg&e does not know when gas services are going to be restored. the big question facing investigators is if is a hate crime. you can see here there's little damage, nevertheless, just one of the series of attacks mosques send across muslims across the country. last night the islamic center for alameda had a forum. the interfaith gathering was aimed at getting people to talk about this problem. they want everyone to take a stand against hate crimes.

>> obviously, there has been a political rhetoric going on in our country the last three months or so and unfortunately from political candidates and people making inflammatory statements about muslims suggest different things to keep people out of the country. it's not acceptable. >> the attack on the tracy mosque was one of two on friday and the other one was at a mosque in houston, texas. arson there caused quite a bit of damage and police don't know who did that either. disturbing video that captured national attention of a woman in fairfield hurling her dog to the ground. this video may be difficult to watch. police identified the woman here as brandy chin. as you can see, she's carrying her dog by the collar and just tosses him across the street towards her ex-boyfriend's. it was the heat of the moment ki kind of thing. >> why did she lose her cool? >> we were arguing about some

personal things and just got blown up into something else. and i think maybe it just got out of hand. >> that video was posted on social media and since she left fairfield we're told that the dog, though, is okay. fairfield police are asking for help. one person is hurt, all investigators can say at this point is three people forced their way into the a room at the hotel. this was just before:00 yesterday morning on central way. some kind of fight happened and the victim was shot in the hip. three people got away in what is only described as a green sedan. anyone with information is asked to call fairfield police. we mention the fact that it's very cold outside right now. tough times to be without heat and we hope all the folks in discovery bay get it soon. kari hall joins us with much

more on that. good morning. >> another cold front rolling across the bay area. most of the rain has rolled on off to the east. but we're still left with wet conditions as you drive out this morning for work or hitting the road. driving family out of the area as we go into the regular pattern heading into new year's day. now, we are now feeling temperatures at 38 degrees. it's 39 degrees in santa rosa and san francisco is at 43 degrees. it will not be a warm day, once again. even as the rain clears out, we get a little bit of sunshine today and highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. a breezy wind and freezing temperatures again tonight. i'll let you know how cold it gets and it's coming up in the microclimate forecast. >> i was just about to sneeze and i caught it in time. 580 westbound. looks like slick roads and, again, right there. the off ramp as these cars hit it. this is our example because that's why you're going to watch still slick roads in the south

chp is cracking down on drunk drivers during the holidays.... and they've busted welcome back. we have been telling you that the chp has been cracking down on drunk drivers during the holidays and busted a lot of people already. since christmas eve officers have made 600 dui arrests in california. 150 of those happened in the first six hours of the crashdown. san mateo county is also doing its own enforcement. daily city police say they made 85 arrests so far. that's 29 more than last year. well, new year's means new laws especially at the dmv. starting january is, the new motor voter act goes into efeblth. what does that mean? anyone over 18 who applies for driver's license or submits a change of address is required to vote. also starting next year, it is

illegal to wear earbuds or headsets in both ears while you're driving a car or riding a bike. and uber and lyft will have to review programs through the dmv. notify those companies if their drivers have any violations on their record. in anticipation of super bowl l, paramedlics are going to learn how to navigate through sfo on bikes. expecting a lot more travelers and the bicycles make it a lot easier for paramedices to get to an emergency scene faster. they're in training right now learning how to navigate in and out of the terminals. super bowl l will take place january 7th at levi stadium. card club in the east bay facing a massive fine from the feds. the oaks card club violated a bank secrecy act according to the bureau. it reports that those in charge of the emeryville club and they

weather and traffic to start off your monday. maybe some light roads, i would think. getting all the holidays. mike will check in with us in a second. >> it is 4:44. usually a lot of traffic at 4:44. >> not only that, but it's wet. so, if you do have to head out, maybe just allow an extra minute or two to get to where you're going. slow it down. it's cold out there, too. you need to bundle up this morning and for the next several mornings. we have not been able to shake this cold and it will hang around for a little while longer as we take a live look now at the bay bridge. mostly clear skies as the system rolls on out of here and, once again, it's leaving behind some wet conditions on area roadways. taking a look at the rain as it continues to move farther off to the east, some snow in the sierra, once again. some rain farther to the north, but this looks like it is fizzling off and most of it stay off shore as it continues to dip to the south. as this rain clears out, we're still tracking some rain for the

far south county. else where, we're still seeing the clearing skies as our temperatures start out around 40 degrees in concord, oakland, napa and san francisco now at 43 it grees. going hour by hour in san francisco, you'll see these temperatures don't really move too much as go through the day. up to 49 degrees by 2:00 this afternoon. and this system rolling off to the east, it's moving out of the bay area, we will have a couple days to dry out. but another storm system starting to move into the pacific northwest as it approaches the north bay. some showers possible. but the rest of the bay area most likely not see a lot of ra rain out of that one. temperatures stay cool. only making it mid up to eupper 50s for the next three days. and looking ahead to the weekend, wow. hard to believe that it will be 2016 and we'll have still the same old weather we've had to deal with throughout the end of december. highs in the upper 50s to lower

talked about having moved off to the shoulder a crash 84 at 680 and also clear of the connector. we'll take a look at san rafael, no problem, guys. back to you. >> looks good out there, mike, thanks. for the second time in a week, a southwest airlines flight had to make an unexpected landing. southwest flight took off from sacramento around 3:00 and it was supposed to go to denver but the pilot discovered a mechanical problem onboard. the plane then circled. it spent most of the time before landing safely at oakland international. on wednesday of last week another southwest flight was forced to make an emergency landing. you are watching video of that plane as it landed it safely. that flight was supposed to go to chicago, but that plane had problems with the landing gear. the largest cargo ship to every visit the u.s. headed to the bay area this week.

take a look at the benjamin franklin. 1,300 feet long and hold up to 18,000 of those large shipping containers. the ship launched from china last month and it is expected to arrive at the port of oakland on new year's eve. as far as the benjamin franklin is concerned to get the full scope of the ship's size. here it is compared to a semi truck. a small circuit at the bottom. take a look at the ship compared to a jet. finally, here is the ship compared to an aircraft carrier. >> oh, my gosh. how does that even fit in the bay area? now, to a british man who says he's the first person to roll solo nonstop across the pacific ocean from north america and took him nearly seven months. >> here's the man. john bedin who is arriving in australia yesterday. spent 200 days at sea after setting off from san francisco back in june.
