a case of cops and one robber who is on the run this morning in his luxury car after holing up the 7-eleven. the person you should trust the most accused of the worst of crimes at an east bay school. san jose soggy. the rain continues through the week, but "today in the bay" starts right now. happy thursday morning to you, thanks for joining us. i'm scott mcgrew. sam brock has the day off. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. good morning. >> good morning. still soggy across the bay area and a little bit of rain still lingers and for the most part we're getting a chance to dry out. scattered showers just to the west of us that will be rolling in off and on throughout the

day. and a live look now at most of the bay area just a couple of spotty showers for parts of the south bay. as we take a look out there now, 43 degrees in the north bay, 47 degrees in san francisco and highs today will be reaching into the lower 50s with rain and even a little bit of sunshine coming out. we'll talk about all of that and more rain to come as we head into the weekend. that's in the microclimate forecast. but let's see what's happening with this morning's commute now with mike. >> kari, much calmer as far as the conditions go and around the bay we don't have much of an issue. the green now really pretty much the speed sensors and slippery in some of the transition ramps. highway 84 at 35, there is a tree down. now, i'm surprised this hasn't happened the last couple of days but a tree down there and your major commute on the peninsula is moving well. there you go, clear and easy across the spans right now. back to you. >> thank you, mike. we're on top of a developing

story for you. the search for a serial robbery or at walnut creek believed he was a robber. police using canine unit there to try to sniff him out. the guy fits the description and mo in several recent other robberies over the past few weeks. in each one the suspect got away in a white bmw. bob redell is also on the trail of that robber. a live report in the next half hour. video capturing a disturbing scene unfolding inside an east bay classroom. shows a teacher's aide assaulting a special education student. >> "today in the bay" kris sanchez tracking the latest on the investigation. that aide is facing charges of felony abuse. >> even before that teacher aide, the violent images are having a ripple effect. one family tells us they pulled that child from that school. the city shows that teacher aide assaulting a special education

student and then the aide stands over him as he's sitting in a desk and appears to abuse him, again. antioch police arrested 26 kamaljot kaur on charges of abuse. toneworld school claimed the 10-year-old boy in that video was back in school yesterday, the day after the video was taken. but the parents of a different 5-year-old boy at that same school said she has seen enough and her son will never return to tobinworld school which is supposed to cater to students with special needs. >> especially when you have a child with special needs that has trouble verbalizing certain things. can't tell you. it's scary. >> now, in a statement tobinworld said, "we immediately suspended staff involved, called the children and family services and notified the antioch

police." we are in the process of conducting a full investigation into the incident. tobinworld takes this event extremely seriously and we'll take all the acts. the continuation of the statement. now, the private school accepts special needs students from more than 15 east bay school districts. it claims that it only learned of that incident after that video went viral. we spoke with an east bay attorney, though, who is currently working with another family that also alleges abuse at a different moment at that same school. laura and scott. >> thank you, kris. i know you'll continue to watch that. police are on a hunt for a san jose man accused of killing his own father. investigators believe he killed his father new year's day. police say the victim was murdered in his own home on neptune court in san jose. his body was found in his car in richmond on monday. police say they've received the information connecting the son

to the murder and at this time they're still looking for him. happening today, we're going to be in court when the grandmother accused of drowning one of her grandchildren is arraigned. dawn rains hughes confessed to the crimes. they have not unveiled the motive. she intentionally drowned her 4-year-old grandson last week. two other grandchildren were in the house at the time and they were not hurt. so much rain in such little time. a story we have been following for days now. nonstop rain dousing the bay area. still, there is more to come. in sonoma county a woman had to be rescued from flood waters. a truck hit some standing water near petaluma and then you see it there, just slipped on to its side. the driver was able to get out safely, but his girlfriend was trapped in the car. she was able to keep her head above water until chp officers freed her. she is now recovering in the hospital. heavy rain also toppled trees in san francisco. one of them smashed on top of

parked cars in pacific heights yesterday. in other parts of the city, roads were closed and parts of the great highway. all because of that flooding. more rain, as i mentioned, is on the way. let's turn to meteorologist kari hall now for the latest storm's path. >> good morning, laura. not as intense as yesterday and not as widespread. little bit more of a break in between those showers but at any time it could start raining, again. as we see the system that continues to spin all across the region, some of the stronger storms have stayed well to the south of us and that may be the case as we go through the day. so now we have the slick roads and spotty showers and then into the afternoon a mix of sun and clouds giving us a brief chance to dry out. and also some rain moving through as temperatures fall quickly tonight, we will have widespread 30s in some spots as the skies clear. but wae will also have a slight chance of some rain heading into tomorrow and another system on

york managed to free 8 miners - who were ap breaking this morning we just learned rescue crews in new york managed to free eight miners who were trapped in an elevator 900 feet underground. this is at a salt mine in lancing about 40 miles from syracuse. we're told those still trapped are not in danger. they've been down there since about 7:00 our time last night. they've been given radios and supplies like water. officials say they're using a crane with a basket attached and lifting those miners out. we'll continue to follow this breaking news situation and update you throughout the morning. at 4:41 right now. san francisco police are developing smartphone app tahelp them track down crooks. the idea is to get you to help them. you'll be able to use your smartphone cameras to record a crime in progress then attach the app and send the videos to police. department brass are not making a formal announcement on the app yet, but the head public information officer just wrote in about it in a police trade

umbrella somewhere close by. keep it in the backseat even if it's not raining at the time, it may just start pouring at any point today. as we take a live look now, san francisco. we do see those low clouds still hovering over head. and not much of a break from the clouds, but it will be nice to get some sunshine today and that will be coming out from those clouds here and there and we also still have a chance of some rain as the system continues to just spin all across the region. now, much of the energy has been well to the south of the bay area. producing those stronger storms. so now as that does continue to shift away from us, we'll be left with the spotty light rain all throughout the day. we can still see some just off shore and that will be moving in throughout the morning. just as things start to dry out, makes it wet, again. now 46 degrees in san jose. these temperatures are cooler than the previous couple of days and that will be the trend, again, as we go into tonight, even cooler now that the colder air will start to roll in from the north. but scattered rain in the

forecast today. the futurecast shows that there will be some breaks and even a little bit of sun coming out, once again. then as we go into this evening, the evening commute not showing a whole lot of rain. this may be our brief break before we have the heavier system moving in into late tomorrow night and early on saturday. heavy downpours, once again, expected into the start of the weekend. so, highs today reaching into the mid-50s. 55 in palo alto. 53 in the mission district and morgan hill 54 degrees. we're looking at 52 in santa rosa and oakland 53 degrees and 54 today in dublin. and, once again, scattered showers and lows dropping back into the 30s. looking ahead, here's a look at saturday with that next heavy round of rain and then on monday we could see some more scattered showers passing. on wednesday morning, it still looks pretty active with several more weather systems moving through and the rain outlook for the next few days looks to bring

us an additional half inch to 1.5 on top of the soaker we already experienced. let's check in now with mike to see what's happening on those roadways. >> not much compared to the last couple of days. calmer commute right now and showing our favorite, that's drier, but still a little puddling and 580 moves well and look over towards the bay bridge. the incline as you come over from oakland side in towards treasure island and san francisco. look at this, good, easy drive. no backup at the toll plaza. again, some puddling on either side of the bay. the freeways move well, except for highway 17 moves well, there was an overnight crash northbound around the summit. car went down the hillside. no, injuries and left the car there until daylight and then they'll have to clear that. back to you guys. there are reports that yahoo! will prepare to cut 10% of its workforce. that and the rest of the news before the bell, landon dowdy is

live at cnbc world headquarters. >> hey, there, scott and laura. good morning to you both. a lot more red arrows on wall street today due to turmoil in china. futures down sharply this morning and for the second time this week, trading was faulted after stocks tumbled more than 7% triggering circuit breakers. chinese regulators gradually withdraw emergency measures after stocks plunged in june. the selloff there spreading to the rest of asia and the european markets today and it's also pulling down oil prices off another 5% this morning to levels not seen since the early 2000 on concerns about a lack of oglobal demand. the dow falling 252 points tuesday to 16907 on oil and geopolitical concerns. the nasdaq dropping 55 to 4836. it is the worst three-day start to a year for the dow and nasdaq since 2008. meanwhile, big layoffs could

5:54. weather has been important throughout the week. let's get right to kari. good morning. >> still some light showers but we're catching a little bit of a break here. you can still see there is more rain where that system continues to spin and a lot of those clouds and showers just rolling on through. but it's not as heavy now. as we look ahead to the weekend, still looks wet at times, but it will be two days with some showers on saturday and also into early, the early afternoon hours with mostly cloudy skies. but check out sunday. this is how it should look. cool, sunny and a bit breezy. we'll take a look at the rest of the forecast coming up, but let's see what's happening on

very good now thursday morning to you. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm scott mcgrew in for sam brock. it's been a soggy week. kari will check the weather. good morning. >> good morning, scott and laura. the brunt of the storm hit us yesterday. that was storm number three and now getting the moisture just wrapping around that area of low pressure and scattered light showers moving through the bay area. this thing is very slow to move on. so, we will still have the after effects of that with some lingering light rain all throughout the day and then temperatures dropping as we go into tonight. now, as we see the rain, most of it well off to the west of us, but that will be moving in and we could see some rain dropping from those clouds at any time today. now, as you step out, it is 43 degrees and cloudy in the north bay and we're looking at highs reaching into the low 50s all across the bay area. i'll detail the next storm system moving in this weekend but let's see what's happening as you approach the bay bridge with mike. >> kari, no drama on either side of the bridge. right he
