more wet weather this week and let's get right to that forecast with anthony slaughter in for kari. >> we're waking up to some clouds and even light showers this morning come across parts of bridges and you'll notice a light green that you'll see on the map. a lot of it is very scattered and most of it as it moves through is falling apart. we will not see a lot of rain and not an all-day rain that we do see. temperatures are back into the lower 50s. upper 40s in the north bay and we do have the showers coming in from the north bay and across the golden gate bridge and the san rafael bridge, as well. we'll continue to see the light showers this morning. we'll see a good mix of sun and clouds this afternoon and temperatures back into the mid-50s for day time highs. let's talk to mike and see the morning commute shaping up. >> you head over to the big box to show folks, yeah a couple drops and little sprinkle going on and no windshield wipers for folks across that bridge and watch for damp roadways continuing. as we look at your map, smooth drive across 101 and anthony talks about 580 westbound and that bridge toll plaza does show

some wet roads, as well. slowing westbound 80 down through mnd. your metering lights on and that is the only issue for the maze. mores on the roadway than we did last week. west 580 shows slowing towards livermore and slowing for hayward and osouth bay no major concerns but a little build there. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. now to an unexpected death of rock royalty. a career that spanned five decades died after a long battle with cancer. the news is less than 12 hours old, but tributes are streaming in. here's a memorial that popped up innen. bowie is originally from england and he had been living there for many years. ♪ ♪ let's dance >> so many fantastic hits. his death comes just days after he released his 25th studio album. bowie's first hit "rose to the

top of england charts back in 1969. a strong stream of top ten songs and albums followed. morphed from persona to persona and he experimented with musical styles. his refusal to play his old hits in an interview in 2003. >> it's a struggle to understand how i am no longer 20. i don't know. i don't know anybody else this has ever happened to. most people they get to 20 and then they stay 20. it didn't happen for me, though. i just went on. >> the man was just a genius. everything he did, he did brilliantly. whether it was music or art. this man did it all. >> another good one there. bowie's death comes just days after he celebrated his birthday. david bowie dead at the age of 69. he played in the bay area, actually, several times. one was at the warfield market street. this is a live look at the venue

this morning. bowie last played there in 1997. what a great show that must have been. the news of his death making waves on social media. madonna took to twitter to say, "i'm devastated. this great artist changed my life. first concert i saw in detroit. rest in peace." kanye west "one of my most important inspirations. so fearless, so creative. he gave us magic for a lifetime." we'll, of course, have more reaction and more from his hollywood hall of fame and that's coming up for you at 6:30. sam? chaos on b.a.r.t., laura. this morning police searching for the man who opened fire onboard a crowded b.a.r.t. train killing another passenger. for more on this developing

story we turn to "today in the bay" kris sanchez live at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. police closely reviewing video still trying to identify a suspect. >> right, everything is back to normal here at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station for commuters this morning. b.a.r.t. police trying to track down the killer of another passenger. a man who was shot on saturday night and b.a.r.t. passengers are starting to talk about the ordeal they went through. take a look at one of the videos that was shot by a b.a.r.t. passenger on saturday night just moments after the shooting. b.a.r.t. rider looked up from a video he was watching on his phone and found chaos around him. just moments after that gunman shot a man onboard a san francisco-bound train in the car just behind his just before 8:00 on saturday night. >> someone next to me was sort of diving over me because i was in the aisle seat. and i didn't really hear the shots. i don't think. i don't really know. it was just so quick. i jumped.

i sort of like got down. what the heck is going on? >> now, brad chapin said he held up his backpack as a shield and documented the scene. another passenger told everyone to get down in order to be safe. the man next to the man who was shot started cpr and that wince says nurses emerged from the crowd, as well, to try to save that man. but it was too late. b.a.r.t. police searched for the shooter for hours and came came up empty. they are trying to track down the killer. the coroner could release the identity today following an autopsy. we'll continue to press b.a.r.t. police for more details. as of thissing they say there is nothing new in this investigation. oakland kris sanchez, "today in the bay." happening today, police are expected in court on christmas morning murder that happened in san jose. three suspects are in custody charged with stabbing a man to death. all three are suspected gang members. all due in court this afternoon. investigators think the three

believe the victim marin was a member of a rival gang. that's because he wore red shirts when he left his house that morning. well, the search is set to pick up this morning for a missing uc grad student. crews tell us they found several items belonging to her on a cliff near the point reyes lighthouse. her mercedes-benz was found over the weekend. the 22-year-old was reported missing on saturday. she was depressed andably suicidal. she was last seen 1:30 wednesday. it is 6:06 right now. jewelry and electronics stolen from a home in the east bay, but they were the least of the homeowner's worries. the most prized possession was one taken with four little legs. zz a brown and white shih tzu was in a closed pen on friday. a burglar got into a home through unlocked door.

zz is a pure bred purchased from a breeder and had stitches removed recently from being spayed the day before she was taken. >> i want you to return the dog to me as soon as possible. you don't want to reveal who you are, you can just return her to aer so they can contact me. that microchip says the owner's contact information. fremont police scouring the internet asking for the public help, especially if the thieves happen to put zz up for sale. >> reporting about her return. meantime, less than a month away now from super bowl l at levi stadium. preparations are about to kick into high gear. this afternoon, the nfl turf guru is going to be in santa clara. talk about field preparations for the big game on february 7th. everything from painting the logos to the grass itself is going to be mapped out very carefully over the next few days. and not just a game. the surface has to be able to withseveral hours of rehearsals

for the half-time show. >> remember when they couldn't even get the grass -- >> i was just thinking the same thing. the battle between nfl and santa clara youth soccer league will play out, once again, in court today. nfl crews worked on the city-owned soccer fields next to leviium. they're building a media center and security center for the upcoming super bowl. parents in charge of youth soccer league say it violates an agreement they had with the city of santa clara. it calls for light use of the land. they'll be in court again today in hopes of getting that work stopped. >> there is no battle with the wet weather. it's coming. we should embrace it. >> we have no choice. >> you know, it is a good thing. it is one of those things you have to fight and try to get around, especially when you have lots of activities happening like the super bowl coming up. yeah, maybe having a wet super bowl here across the bay area. we're in the heart of el nino right now. >> cold play, cold day.

>> all right, hashtag that. let's talk about this rain. the first system moving in right now. not going to bring a whole lot in terms rainfall and one that will move in for wednesday and that one you want to be concerned about. walk around and even the drive around you'll see a lot of those leaves are starting to clog the gutters if you want to get out there and make sure you prepare for wednesday's rain. right now looking at drizzle and that's what we'll find this morning with afternoon sunshine. san jose back up to 58 degrees and same deal for san francisco, mid-50s there. across the north bay, that's where yowlver the best chance of seeing any measurable prec precipitation and con56 degrees and more sunshine for the tri-valley and mid-50s expected there, as well. as we move athead the week ahead. wednesday, the storm system we were telling you a. a lot of reds and orange and rain moving in for wednesday morning commute and sierra snow, as well. thursday night on the heels of that one and another storm system moves in and that could bring us another inch of rain. both systems can drop an inch of rain at the inland conditions

and at the coastline 2.5 to 4 inches and we'll continue to track that. again, now is the time to plan. mike, how are those roads looking? >> more traffic volume than we did last week and we'll see that build through next week. we don't have a full commute just yet. after an early burst we see things holding steady and the lights are up for the signs and getting ready for business. we'll look at the map and show you into the full business here. but by the time we reach basically airway, at the speed limit for the dublin interchange. the build is on, though, for south 682 and pleasanton and sunol. showing more for the tri-valley. no major concerns concord and upper east shore freeway. bay bridge toll plaza one of your focus points and no problem for the walnut creek interchange over here. south bay, a live look. san jose north 101 had an earlier burst of that was about 20 minutes ago kind of calming down more and more traffic starting about 6:25 this morning

and that's when we see the south bay start to build. so far south bay and peninsula no major problems or slowing right now. back to you. >> mike, let's stay in the area, shall we? vta rolling out an experiment. flex on demand. the idea is to speed up commute using public transit. they are offering an on-demand service that connects areas of high-density. it may start today. vta leaders are waiting until thursday to show it off. that apparently will give them some time to work out any kinks. the owners keep coming for sacramento's own spencer stone. one of the man who helped take down a suspected terrorist. this very special event he's headed to tomorrow. man, a tough week on the stock market last week. he got two things that should help today. we'll tell you all about them coming up today in "business and tech."

one of those terrorist train heroes from sacramento will it is 6:14 on a monday morning. new this morning one of the terrorist train heroes from sacramento will see president obama's last state of the union address in person. spencer stone will be in the first lady's box. quite a few months since this summer's foiled terrorist attacks. stone and two of his childhood friends are credited with stopping the gunman.

since then the staff sergeant has been promoted and received a purple heart and an airman's medal. now, to decision 2016. a new poll out this morning shows ted cruz out ahead of donald trump. but that's only in iowa. it's the first state to weigh in on the presidential primary. now only three weeks away. in the next state, new hampshire, trump is far out ahead of cruz. senator marco rubio comes in second in new hampshire. as for the democrats, hillary clinton in a statistical dead heat with bernie sanders in both states. this as the two of them talk up their own ability to stand up to the gun lobby. >> the only industry in our country where we have given that kind of carte blanche to do whatever you want to do with no fear of legal consequences. >> when gun manufacturers, for example, are selling guns into an area and know that those guns are going into the hands of

criminals, absolutely those gun manufacturers should be held accountable. >> clinton over the weekend picked up a key endorsement picking up the support of gabby giffords and her astronaut husband. clinton will also appear later today on "ellen degeneres show." in the pretaped interview she talked about the challenges she's facing as a woman candidate. >> i think it's still hard to run. if you're forceful, you're too forceful. if you're not forceful enough. >> she talked about her appearance last year on "saturday night live." the surprising secret that she's learned from kim kardashian. that interview airs today at 24:00 p.m. on nbc bay area. wall street saw the worst start to the year ever on wall street. >> scott mcgrew some hope.

>> some things have changed. first that good jobs number on friday wherely 300,000 jobs were added in the month of december. that's much better than expect and caps off an incredibly strong job growth for the year. when you actually look at the numbers, unemployment rate sticks at 5%. when you delved into these numbers you found all kinds of important bits. when we look at people with just a high school education. those are some people with the worst unemployment rates but they are getting jobs. it's a sign of very strong job growth. not every category did well, as you might imagine. oil workers, miners anybody involved in commodities facing tough times. we saw layoffs at chevron and two things changed. the first one was the good news on jobs and the second is changes to the chinese market. you know, chinese stock markets crumpled last week. so badly on several days the so-called circuit breakers kicked in that actually ended the trade. and american investors freaked

out. you heard the, oh, circuit breakers tripped on chinese markets. that panic what did the chinese do? they got rid of the circuit breaker, problem solved. like a ship captain telling them to get to a life boat. tesla showing off the video over the weekend. an update to software that will allow you to park your tesla in the garage and it will do it all by itself. and then in the morning, it will come meet you out on the driveway. now, tesla turning off some automation, as well. you can't drive hand free down any residential street any more. >> you know, once it cleans my garage, then i'll be impressed. >> enough room in the garage. yeah. >> maybe you can drive my car, you can also park my car. thank you very much, scott mcgrew. it is 6:18 right now.

a mysterious mess of plastic debris causing concern in san francisco. small pieces of plastic along the stretch of ocean beach appear to be the result of recent storms and high surf. the golden gate national recreation area said people started reporting that trash last week but not easy to clean up because of so many small pieces. no indication this is tied to a recent cargo container that washed ashore near baker beach last month. 6:19. right now lots of things washing ashore. really washing on to the land over the next couple of days. anthony, we'll look at more rain. >> more rain and high surf as we get towards mid-week. winter storm watches posted for the sierra. here we go, again, more rain coming our way and you'll notice that as the seven-day forecast at the bottom of your screen and pick out those days where you will want to plan indoor activities. bay bridge move in without a problem and mike will be along in just a minute to talk about the traffic.

storm system moving through right now and a weak one and not produce a lot of rain. the next storm system move through for wednesday and pack quite a punch. clouds this morning and a little bit of driz and ground wet in places but a lot of the activity is very light and spotty. not everybody will see the rain for today. temperatures right now starting off mild in the low 50s across the south bay. the east bay, the peninsula. there's the showers i was telling you about across the golden gate bridge. a little bit damp here and across the san rafael, richmond bridge. the east bay, san francisco and the north bay. the best chance of seeing any pressurable precipitation today. the north bay a 0.01 and lesser amounts for san francisco and the east bay. temperatures today going to be cool back into the mid to upper 50s for daytime highs. there is a storm system i was telling you about on its heels. and overall it looks like we'll continue to see this trend of storms every other day not only for this week, but all the way through the end of this month. it will be very active month as we with this el nino pattern.

you'll notice by noon a few spotty showers across the north bay and san francisco but most of the day will stay dry for the east bay, the tri-valley and south bay. by the evening, we'll continue to see those showers across the north bay and then we'll start to clear out as we head towards sunset. now, here's a look at the rainfall amounts. again, not impressive at all. less than 0.01 with this system but as we head towards wednesday, this system, this is the one that is really going to drop rainfall amounts. the potential of an inch to 2 inches to inland locations and higher amount across the higher terrain. as we head towards thursday and friday, storm system moves on in and that stays with us as we head towards saturday. so, it's going to be a wet week overall and just getting ready for it as we start off this monday. you'll notice rainfall amounts expecting 2.5 to 4 inches for san santa rosa, san rafael and the north bay mountains and san francisco you can get 2.5 inches out of this and 1.5 to 2 inches across the east bay and south bay. get those storm drains cleaned

out now because we have a rainy week headed our way. mike, how are the roads looking right now? >> looking really good. with weather conditions we'll have to have you slow down. here's the berkeley curve and coming off of the maze not so bad. but you see west 580 does slow making the merge to some of those transitions. there's the bay bridge toll plaza and the upper east shore freeway and behind me is concord. southbound 680 slows a bit down toward the walnut creek interchange. nice build for hayward and across the san mateo bridge. over here the tri-valley moves well. more traffic in each spot causes more slowing and we'll zoom out and no drama and just build for 101 and 87. the live look does show you have company out here. north 101 slows a bit towards university and nice, easy drive through san mateo. back to you. this floored a lot of people. coming up sean penn and el chapo. the actor's connection to the

headed to el chapo looks like he is headed to the united states. they only recaptured the drug lord on friday. joaquin guzman's lawyers are trying to keep him in mexico. but mexican authorities want to talk with actor sean penn. the actor showed up yesterday as author in a "rolling stone" article about guzman. turns out penn traveled to mexico to meet with the notorious fugitive in secret. penn says in the article that guzman talked of trafficking heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs. fewer teenagers are smoking today than ever before. but a new study out this morning also finds something disconcerting. centers for disease control and prevention says that nearly half of nonsmoking kids in middle and high school encountered second-hand smoke in 2013. thez are the latest figures. earlier studies have suggested

a very good monday morning to you. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. another active weather week. tonight we start off with a light warm up. for more on that let's get a look at your microclimate forecast with anthony slaughter. >> started off with a little bit of rain, not much. just enough to get the ground wet. continue with the clouds throughout the day. not a whole lot of sun and we'll see mostly cloudy skies and the showers we're looking at will fade away as we head towards the afternoon hours. we're looking at wet roads across the north bay and spots in the east bay and we'll head down the peninsula and the south bay and that's where we're seeing drier conditions. later on with a spot shower possible we'll see temperatures back into the mid to upper 50s and bigger storm system heads our way for next weekend. eright n all right let's toss things over to mike. >> a smooth drive, but we do have more crowded conditions, as well. more crowded than last week.

101 at 680 and look at your map. the slowing is more widespread than the one spot we saw last week. more slowing towards capital expressway and up towards the airport around 87 and 87 itself slows into downtown. just keep in mind the south bay showing a little earlier build. we should have more slowing than you expect considering the last couple of weeks. small brush fire 101 reported on the residential side and not on the freeway side. we have folks checking that out and see what's going on. so far no reports of any injuries or any structures involved. over on the eastbound side we have some slowing. the tri-vally and the upper east shore freeway. typical patterns, just, again, more traffic than we saw last week. we'll send it back to you. >> thanks, mike. police are looking for the gunman behind what is believed to be the worst deadly shooting ever on a b.a.r.t. train. a man seated on a b.a.r.t. train saturday night as it pulls into the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. he is able to escape before police arrived. the station was closed overnight

as police searched for the killer. other passengers tried to help, witnesses say someone started cpr on the victim. ers found nurses in the crowd and tried to shield upset riders. >> someone next to me was sort of diving over me. because i was in the aisle seat and i didn't really hear the shots, i don't think. i don't really know. it was just so quick. so, i jumped. i sort of like got down and was like, what the heck is going on? >> that brad chapin and he reported the frightening and confusing situation in his train car. police are checking surveillance tape and interviewing witnesses. vallejo police are investigating that city's first homicide of 2016. a man was shot and killed last night near maple and reece avenues. police say the 22-year-old was found dead when they arrived. he had been shot multiple times. police have not released his name and they are not saying anything about a possible suspect. meantime a newly released report

isry ve revealing more of a san clara county inmate. walter roches died back in september from natural causes. happened one week after guards sprayed him with pepper spray and forcibly removed him fro his cell. they said roches died from a blood infection and other chronic health problems which included high blood pressure and drug use. his death is one of many controversies facing that jail including three deputies that are facing charges after the death of another inmate, michael tyree. he was severely beaten by the guards. police in santa cruz have a warning this morning, beware of a kidnapping scam. three families were almost scammed over the weekend. the victims say a person called and claimed family members had been kidnapped. they would be returned safely only after a cash payment. officers say the calls were prouven en proven to be a hoax when those family members were found safe.

they came from blocked or restricted numbers and they advise anyone who receives a similar call to contact police immediately. at 6:33. leaders at sfo launching new efforts in the fight against human trafficking. this is, of course, the super bowl quickly approaches. the airport today is going to play host to a human trafficking awareness training session. the goal is to make airport workers more aware of the signs of identifying victims of humaning and taking proper steps when human trafficking is suspected. members from the group airline ambassadors international are going to be on hand. that group plays a major role in the global fight against human trafficking. the search is on this morning for a woman police say tried to run down a police. police are looking for denise davis after detectives say she purposely hit an officer with her car in daly city. this is not the first time she's done this. davis was wanted for striking another person with her car. if you see dave or know her

whe whereabouts, daly city police would like to hear from you. at 6:34. decision is expected tomorrow over a controversial plan for students in the south bay. parents packed a south bay high school auditorium over the weekend to let their voices be heard. the issue is enrollment at lindbrook high school. school leaders expect enrollment will decrease bay more than 200 students over the next five years. they're proposing redrawing school boundaries to include students from the park neighborhood near 280. many parents are pushing, instead, for an open enrollment option and flooded the meeting to support it. the move would give famies a choice in schools. >> if you're just waking up right now at 6:35. the world remembering a musical icon. rock 'n' roll visionary whose career spanned five decades. with his family by his side, david bowie died last night after battling cancer in secret for 18 months. annette from our sister station in los angeles knbc joining us

live at bowie's star in hollywood and we're watching as a growing tribute there build up by his star. >> sam, a very sad and somber morning. not only here in hollywood, but all around the world as tributes continue to pour in for the british rock legend who was a trailblazer and trend setter in so many ways. fans in southern california have been leaving candles and flowers and pay their respects. he was a singer, songwriter and producer with his music ranging from punk, rock and his influence, fashion and even gender identity. he married international super star back in 1992. bowie had just released his 25th alb album last week and we were speaking to fans flocking to his star and talking about their favorite hits and some of their favorite memories. bowie is survived by his wife and two children and a

spokesperson for the family mentioned that he had died surrounded by his family and loved ones. david bowie was 69 years old. reporting live this morning from the hollywood walk of fame. >> annette, thank you so much. never, of course, be another musician like him. the news of bowie's death making waves on social media this morning. comedian, actor and golden globes host ricky gervais tweeted "i just lost a hero. rip david bowie." elan musk wrote, "sad he hear david bowie died. he was amazing." music great, sam, already in mourning will say a final farewell today to grammy winning artist natalie cole. she died from heart failure at the age of 65. she will be buried next to her parents in southern california. chaka khan is expected to sing

at today's service. >> very heavy day, obviously, in the music world. we'll provide you with coverage and updates. >> their legacy really continues through their music. >> they're shaping artists even to this day. 6:38 right now. a wet start, once again, on your monday. >> yeah. we'll see a pattern of off and on again rain, right, anthony? >> yes. in fact, we're getting going on this monday. showers across parts of the bay area and not amount to much. the system issing apart as it's moving through. we have another storm system on its heels and that one is expected to move through on wednesday bringing more substantial amounts of rain and very gusty winds. right now clouds in place that you can see a little bit of green starting to fade away and that shows the rain that we're seeing, at least the drizzle, is starting to dry up and we'll continue to hang on to the clouds, as well. highs mid to upper 50s. 58 for sunnyvale and a brief, passing shower even for pacifica and 55 degrees at the embarcadero and, again, the better chance for rain today

exists across the north bay. santa rosa up to 55 and napa 54 and mill valley at 56. later on more sunshine for the tri-valley and the east bay once we get into the afternoon hours and livermore at 55 degrees. if you're traveling across the sierra over the next couple of days you may want to consider a winter storm watch in place for tomorrow night and wednesday and expected an additional four to eight inches above 5,000 feet and another foot above 7,000 feet. here's that storm system that has that winter watch in place. for us it means rain. very heavy rain expected for wednesday morning and afternoon. we'll dry out by thursday and by friday another storm system dives our way and that will keep rain in place. overall, rainfall amounts look really good this upcoming week. the potential for an inch from each storm system that we see wednesday and also for friday and saturday. so, that will leave for about 2 moit2.5 inches and across the s cruz mountains and the higher elevations in the north bay. you may get 2.5 to 4 inches of

rain as we round out this upcoming week. we have three additional storms head our way this upcoming week. temperatures tomorrow warmer and a little bit dry, as well. wednesday the rain returns with a vengeance. roads looking more crowded than last week and looking towards berkeley. west 80 is fine here, but let's look at your map. that volume of traffic and one incident causes much more slowing and one lane is blocked and we do have three vehicles involved right around highway 4 and a smoother drive through richmond. over here that issue for 24, it is eastbound getting away from the bridge and we don't see any slowing just outside the cald caldecott tunnel. the tri-valley shows that build for west 580, as well. south 680 and no drama at the dublin interchange. northbound directions for 101 and 85 showing some slow downs and 87 and we are back to what we expect to see through this

"mr. robot" won for best drama and the amazon streaming series "mozart in the jungle" won for best comedy. 6:45. some rare green arrows on wall street this morning. >> a lot of folks sweating out the first couple weeks of the year here, scott mcgrew. >> it really is. boy, was it rough in the last couple of weeks because the chinese markets and other concern. this morning dow industrials gaining 50 points. apple is doing much better. though still under $100. twitter is doing much better. though still under its ipo price. we have a long way to go. tesla says you'll no longer be able to take your hands off the steering wheel in residential neighborhoods roads where there's no line down the middle. this comes after tesla became concerned over some of these videos it was seeing. so, people playing with that new self-driving feature safe enough on the highway, tesla says you shouldn't be using it driving down wisteria lane.

we've updated that software. now, tesla taketh away and also parkth. the company is adding a self-parking feature way more simple than the hey, i'll help you parallel park. drive itself into your garage. tesla drop you off at the driveway and drive inside, close the door behind it. in the morning, hit the button on the remote and the car will meet you out on the driveway. tela says eventually your car will drive across country to meet you. uber says don't get too lazy, though. the company is noticing people kind of holed up in their homes this time of year and get out less and therefore there are fewer uber users. uber is discounting the price of its uber x ride by 10% in san francisco and 20% in the east and south bay. we'll watch this, guys. basically the opposite of surge pricing they more driversnd the anti-surge where they try to drive in more users. will the drivers show up for less money? >> that's interesting. >> already worried about making

a living wage. 6:46. expect lots of dreaming this week about ten-figure bank accounts. you're already smiling. as in $1.3 billion. >> well, it's a lot of money, but how hard is it to win it? that's the estimated world record jackpot for this wednesday's powerball drawing. because no one matched all six numbers in last saturday's draw. that's what makes it crazy. powerball jackpot has grown to unprecedented height since the start of november when it began at $40 million. >> no one took home the jackpot on saturday. so, people can be lined up buying tickets for the rest of the week. but someone in fremont did get a great consulation prize. a 7-eleven store there sold a ticket matching five out of six numbers. the payout for that $780,000. it will make you drop a lot of things when you find out you made that kind of money. >> drop your coffee mug. no kidding. >> buy a new one. >> they should divide it up. so huge. >> they should divide it up

amongst everyone you see on your screen right now. >> we'd still have something. >> yeah, really. >> you know, the good news is we're tracking more rain. so, if you are trying to get out and do that, maybe get some more lottery numbers. today you can do that. yeah, look at that beautiful sunrise. right here on this monday. waking up to dry conditions across the south bay. the great news, if you are trying to get out today and do anything, we're not tracking any heavy rain. that's great news. still get out with dry conditions. we do have some clouds in place this morning as you see from that sunrise. by wednesday when they make that next powerball drawing, we'll have that rain in the forecast that day. so, good luck for us all around. we're watching clouds this morning and clouds will be in place through the afternoon hours and that will lead for a cool day back into the mid-50s. ing temperatures right now in the low 50s for the most part. we do have some drizzle right there across the east bay, across the san rafael richmond bridge and same deal for the golden gate bridge and across parts of the north bay.

now, as we move through the day, we'll see temperatures rebound back for the south bay and ninsula and the east bay, san francisco and the north bay. we're expecting showers to continue. again, it's going to be on and off and not an all-day rain. we'll see a good mix of sun and clouds and storm system we're watching for wednesday and another one on its heels and that will move in for the weekend. three storms to go as we head towards the next seven days. again, as i mentioned, we'll see the showers fade away and you'll notice that by the futurecast as we put this into motion by noon, still a few spotty showers to the coastline and san francisco and parts of the north bay. once we the afternoon hours, we'll start to clear out and the showers will remain across the north bay today and we may see 0.01 or less. the rainfall amounts not impressive this go around. even san francisco a trace of rain there, even across parts of the south bay and across the east bay and the tri-valley. wednesday, though, here comes our next storm system. this thing is a big one. it will pack quite a punch as it moves through wednesday morning

and bringing gusty wind with it. winter storm watches already posted for that storm. thursday night we get a break and then friday another storm system dives in from the north and that will bring rain in for the weekend and keep that in mind as you make your weekend plans. overall, this is how much rain we're expecting from all of the storms headed our way this upcoming week. 1.5 to 2.5 inches that valley floor. that includes livermore, san jose and even down near morgan hill and gilroy. across parts of the santa cruz mountain and we may see an additional 2.5 to 4 inches of rain and that is a lot of rain. so, clear out those storm gutters because you know what happens when we get into the rain, things start to flood. prepare now. mike, how does it look on those roads? >> good, good. with all that rain things start to fall down. mudslides and trees down sometimes. right now much calmer than that and all these cars north 101 at 680. let's show you, not the only slowing for san jose. worst slowing coming up to the area. we just heard about a crash north 101 right by capital

expressway. we do have three or four vehicles involved. two middle lanes and that could be a big backup and still getting updates from chp as they are yet to arrive on scene. also 87 showing a slower drive from capital expressway from downtown. commute really kicking in for many parts of the bay. much more than last week. the dublin interchange looks good. 80 southbound showing slowing towards sunol and the border between union city and fremont. be careful out there for 8 0 southbound and we'll take a live look at east shore freeway. a smooth drive. a nice move towards the maze and over towards the bay bridge. slowing at the maze. the bay bridge metering lights are on and a smooth drive into the city on the bridge itself. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. if you are an oakland raiders fan, you may also be a dallas cowboy. cowboy owner jerry jones has formally proposed a st. louis rams and san diego chargers share a stadium in engelwood. that would be in place if the

looked up from a video he was watching on his phone and said it was chaos around him. a gunman shot a man on a train bound for san francisco saturday night. >> someone next to me was sort of diving over me because i was in the aisle seat and i didn't really hear the shots i don't think, i don't know. it was so quick. i got down and was like, what the heck is going on? >> he says he held up his backpack as a shield and then documented the scene after another passenger told everyone to get down to safety. the man next to the victim started cpr and the witness says that nurses emerged from the crowd to try to help that man, as well. but it was too late. b.a.r.t. police searched for the shooter for hours and came up empty. now sifting through surveillance video and witness accounts trying to track down the killer or at least the better description. the coroner could release the victim's identity as early as today. we're hoping for new details from police, as well. in oakland, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." 6:57.

green fading away as we move through the morning hour and that is the drizzle we are watching all morning long. east bay san francisco north bay and the best chance of seeing this drizzle this morning. after this round of showers moves through this afternoon, we'll see a good mix of sun and clouds and that will leave temperatures close to 60 degrees across the south bay, peninsula. still cool in san francisco and the north bay and mid-50s there? >> good to know. mike was telling us about an accident in the south bay. >> northbound approaching capital expressway. you see the slow down right by the arrow. we have the details and sound like four of the vehicles and five were involved and four remain in the middle lane there at northbound 101 just before capital expressway. this may force some folks over towards 87 or monterey street as alternates. shift your commute coming out of the south portion of san jose. rest of your bay looking pretty good. you see more slowing for the tri-valley and down the east shore freeway and i to show you the live look at the san mateo bridge. really kicking in the last five minutes slow from 880 across the flat section.
