6:18 am
mateo and across the north bay, mostly cloudy skies expected there. 58 and 57 from napa and hayward you'll top out near 60 and livermore at 59 later on this afternoon and pleasanton right at 69 degrees. you'll notice the clouds pretty extensive through the day and not expecting the rain until tonight, right around midnight when the sun goes down and we may see some showers fall, again, around midnight. time that out and notice what i'm talking about. the futurecast moves through the evening and dry until about 9:00, 10:00 and widespread rain for most of the bay area. now, this first storm system is going to bring decent rainfall amounts. 0.25 or less than that from san francisco to the tri-valley and south bay. more across parts of the north bay and 0.5 for santa rosa as the next storm system moves in, that one could give us an additional 0.25 which would put our rainfall totals with the series of two storms near an inch in san francisco and 0.75
6:19 am
and looks like 0.75 to an inch for the east bay and more than that for the north bay. so, decent headed our way this upcoming weekend and decent snow, as well. make sure you want to leave, if you are going to be traveling to the sierra, do it today. the snow arrives tonight. it's going to be snowing all day tomorrow and then another storm moves in sunday night into monday. they're expecting a foot of additional snow across the sierra. so, yeah, you make sure you got chains handy if you're doing any traveling, especially across 80. all right, mike, how is it looking on those roads? better across the south bay. >> freeway across the south bay are moving, anthony. all around the bay, a pretty light flow of traffic and 101 through san jose and the rest of the map for silicon valley with those speeds. just 101 itself where we show the camera has that increase. downtown san jose. the biggest concern and we have a crew heading, actually kris sanchez is heading down there to get more details on how long the closure is going on. this is at santa clara and the deadly hit and run crash
6:20 am
happened earlier this morning just before 5:00. a pedestrian was hit and killed on the streets and that is between sap center right here and highway 87. they cut off this whole section here. this is a huge issue for folks coming into downtown and you can only exit over to this side on the santa clara and the other roadways to get back and forth between julian, for example, and park avenue through downtown. those roadways will open for a detour, but that cutting off right there will afolks getting to highway 87 out of downtown. fortunately, that's not the big commute right now and you can use julian and we're tracking that. a matter of hours before they can clear that with the investigation we'll also tell you about that car they're looking for, as well. over here, southbound 880 through hayward with an easier drive and that crash there at eighth street has closed from the roadway and clear into union city and the rest of your bay moves very well as you expect a lighter friday flow. but the backup at the bay bridge plaza and that live shot and the metering lights on. a little activity off to the

the bay bridge toll plaza does have the backup, but the left approach is looking light. the rest of the bay looking light for friday, as well. these freeways not a major concern. 880 for hayward and earlier crashes there. we'll move to the south bay. you'll see, the freeways are moving well down here as you would expect, as well. downtown san jose and locater right here. highway 87 and here's 280 and sap center over there. now, this portion of santa clara from i understand is closed because of a deadly hit and run crash there involving a pedestrian and kris sanchez has arrived out there. kris, you're live with the very latest on the investigation. what do you have? >> we were just talking to the lieutenant of the an jose police department who said it appears the driver didn't hit that bicyclist just once, but perhaps hit that bicyclist twice. he's here with me this morning. thanks for joining us. you suspect that this driver, this pedestrian was hit twice and it was a bicyclist, in fact. >> yeah, so our initial witness statement show that the vehicle kind of veered off to the
6:32 am
opposing lanes of traffic and jumped up own to the curb and potentially clipping the bicycle, maybe hitting the individual on the bicycle once. we believe that the driver at that point panicked and put it in reverse and when he was reversing to flee the scene actually ran the victim over again. and that would be the fatal event. >> now, the description is a vehicle found pretty common. a white full-size contractor-type pickup truck but the damage doesn't, that would be noteworthy. >> the damage would be noteworthy, however from the information that we have and the damage would be pretty minor. the driver side right front fender will have a slight amount of damage on it because he did gently brush up against the wall there but didn't impact it very hard. but there is some scrapes and paint transfer there and then typically, you know, a body is not going to do that much damage
6:33 am
to a truck like that. >> but damage on the back side where that driver backed up? >> potentially, yes. >> closer to where that victim passed away here on the scene. the fact is that people need to stay out of the area, both pedestrians, bicyclists and commuters. >> so, all santa clara streets at the sap center shut down. makes it difficult for people commuting and getting to the train station and so on and so forth. but there is alternate routes. take san fernando to autumn and come up the back way. >> not a homicide at this point. you want folks to say something if they see something. >> absolutely. the truck, you see a white, you know, '80s, '90s construction-style truck with damage in the bed and has damage on the right fender and write down that license plate and give us a call, crimestoppers. you know, this guy killed somebody and we want to find that person. >> thank you very much, lieutenant. >> again, a full-size white
6:34 am
pickup truck contractor style with stuff in the back. likely some damage on the front driver's side and the rear fender. this driver apparently hit this bicyclist twice. he is a 60-year-old man who died here on the scene. if you know something, call crimestoppers, call san jose police department. do want to talk to this person. also be aware that if you're commuting through the downtown area, this is going to impact your commute between santa clara street is closed between the sap center and highway 87. that means closed to pedestrians and bicyclists, drivers and vta is rerouted through the area, as well. you want to stay tuned to mike because he will have the very latest. in san jose, kris sanchez. >> find an alternate route. big story we're also firing gunfire erupting in the parking lot of a busy area mall and police still trying to figure out if anyone was hit by those bullets. >> bob redell is live and spent the night checking with

hospitals to see if they had any victims. >> and so far as far as we know they didn't find anyone. san leandro police do tell us they believe the shooting that took place in this parking lot, scott and laura, was not a random attack. they have not determined what the relation was between both sides or what led up to this shooting. happened around 6:40 last night in this parking lot just outside the bed, bath & beyond and old navy store. >> it is not clear who started the shooting and people in a red camaro and two men walking through the parking lot. police do not believe that anyone was shot. they did check local hospitals to make sure. the people in the car did drive away. the two men escaped into the mall who were later detained by police for questioning. now, a parked car was hit by a bullet and i bring this up because police aring to check your car for bullet holes if your vehicle was parked here between 6:30, 7:00 last night. that information would help with the investigation.
