morning that is exposing more problems on our coastline. back to school and work today. the wet weather greeting us this tuesday morning. plenty of activity on that doppler radar. "today in the bay" starts right now. a very good tuesday morning, thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. i hope you brought your rain slicker this morning. widespread rain and wind blasting the bay area. take a look at this from san rafael to san jose, everywhere getting a taste of these spring storms. we're tracking the radar as this latest system barrels through. a lot of activity happening right now as your morning commute is getting under way. >> team coverage to help you get out the door and first we go to meteorologist kari hall staying on top of this fast moving storm. zoom in. oranges and yellows in there. >> that shows where the more intense rain is now as it continues to move through san francisco over towards the east bay and over, also, towards the delta. that's where the most intense rain is coming down at this

point. and that may slow you down as you head out for the morning drive, heading to work or school. many people are getting back out on those roadways. as we take a look right now, our temperatures are in the mid-50s and very soggy conditions. standing water, also, on the roads. watch out for that. if water is flowing over the road, you do not want to drive over. you just can't tell how deep it is. today's highs reach up to the upper 50s in san francisco and the north bay. will be drying out later on this evening. most of the rain coming this morning. so, i'll detail that and the next round of rain expected to hit the bay area. that's coming up. let's see what's happening on those roads with mike. >> the shot of the bay bridge toll plaza right here. the volume of traffic not a big deal. just building. rebuilding after the holidays and the holiday yesterday. but look at that. rain on the lens and over here on windshields and wipers going. slick conditions. let's look at your map. a spinout reported on 580 on grand just a few minutes ago. a car went into the center divide and slick conditions,

minor flooding and 880 just off of the downtown off ramps, as well. a crash and minor flooding for 101 and both sides of the bay getting equally stoked. showing that on the radar, as well. smooth drive around most of the bay. foster city side getting off at 92 westbound. kris sanchez on the hayward city side. yourric actually out there, what is going on? >> we're out here. we're safe, we're on the other side of a concrete barrier. we are close to the road where i think it is just time before we get that poured over. we are seeing as much rain as we saw on sunday, but, obviously, at a more difficult time on a more difficult day. lots of folks driving, i would say, in my nonexpert opinion, too fast for the conditions. so, do mind your speed this morning because you don't see the ponding on the roadway until it's just too late. little reminder from the aaa

folks. they say if you hit a skid, let your car go where it is supposed to go. do not give into the temptation of braking this morning. and don't forget the rules are different when we took driver's ed back in high school they said 10 and 2 and the rule is now 9 and 3 for safety. do not be a distracted driver this morning. it is dangerous out here and you want to make sure that you're safe. also, we're seeing the ponding here on the roadway as coming off, you know, 92 and going on to the bay bridge. but the lower level, the street level, the streets, as well. and watch out for kids who are walking to school. the other day my little one got rooster tailed and splashed on her way to school by a driver who was driving just a little too fast through a little puddle and it makes for a long day at scal. so, we're going to watch the wind conditions out here on the san mateo bridge. watching the rain for you, as

well. but i would give you some other advice. blow dry your hair but don't bother with the flat iron. not going to matter this morning. back to you. >> although you're sporting the nbc bay area hat quite well. thanks, kris. stormy weather rattling nerves on the coast. water over the sea wall in pacifica. a live look at the damage left behind this morning. caution tape now up to keep people away from the big hole in the sidewalk. these big waves created. public work crews filled it up with giant rocks to prevent people from falling in. residents with a front row seat to the dramatic seas are now preparing for conditions to get worse. >> right now after being here 11 years, my family wants me to move out of here. they had it. they worry too much about me. >> while crews monitor that situation in pacific the chp is also watching highway 84 in fremont. rocks and mud came sliding down the hillside in nyles canyon

yesterday. a great way to track the storms is with our free nbc bay area app. click on the weather app and you can download the app from google app store or from google play. anger boiling over in two bay area cities. this as demonstrators interrupted the martin luther king jr. celebrations on the right hand side of your screen. a different set of protesters caused a scene on the bay bridge on the left hand side. traffic came to a complete stand still. this as they tried to get their point across. at least 25 people were arrested. thousands more inconvenienced. "today in the bay" bob r deedel live at the bay bridge. what is the fallout from that demonstration as we move into tuesday? >> good morning to you, sam. a group known as black seed who is behind yesterday's shutdown has called for 96 hours of direct action. not clear if they're planning any more protests or shut downs

today, tomorrow or thursday. but yesterday at around 4:00, this is what they did. they parked cars in front of all five lanes of westbound traffic on the bay bridge. some members chained themselves to the vehicles and to each other, which shut down traffic causing a backup that lasted for hours, stranding thousands of drive drivers. the group wants to honor dr. martin luther king legacy and protests in oakland and san francisco. >> i haven't done anything bad to anyone. why have to sit here in traffic for hours. >> the inconvenience that you may have experienced on the bridge, i imagine what it is like to be inconvenienced. having your well being and life constantly inconvenienced. >> they arrested 25 protesters for unlawful assembly and public nuisance, but by late last night all of those 25 people had bailed out of san francisco county jail. reporting live here at the bay bridge toll plaza, bob redell

"today in the bay." >> thanks, bob. that anger, in fact, spread to another bay area event. the martin luther king celebration at the art center. >> we want the police officers involved charged with murder. >> demonstrators forced mayor ed lee from the stage during yesterday's celebration. they're upset over the deadly police shooting of a man last month who officers said would not drop his knife. the family of that man, mario woods, has a high-powered attorney in his corner. burris opposes ed lee. >> doesn't have to appoint and allow chiefs to conduct a review of his own procedure. that should be done by an independent group of people. >> he says several investigations are taking place, including one by the city's police commission. wants the federal government to

look into the officer's use of force. back to our microclimate weather alert. a live look outside from san jo jose. some drops on the camera as wind and rain coming through the region right now in the middle of our morning commute. or at least the early stages of it. meteorologist kari hall monitoring those storms latest path. when can we expect the wet weather to let up a little bit. >> even during the main morning commute, 8:00, 9:00, we will still have the heavy rain rolling through parts of the bay area. we also have the concern of flooding as we've eocene some waves of bright intensities here on the radar with some yellows and some reds. that shows where it is really coming down. so, as you head out this morning, maybe hitting some puddles and the windshield wipers are up on high. as we go into the rest of the morning, we still see some more of this rain coming down. the green shows a steady, moderate rain, but then, once again, it gets the brighter the color the more intense. we are looking at the possibility of some rainfall

accumulations through noon. over an inch, over 1.5 inches for union city over 0.5 of rain. it does taper off as we go into the afternoon. let's see how the roads are moving now with mike. >> the roads are moving well but the conditions are not good. over here towards 880 and rain traveled through this area with the radar and you see it leaves a good, slick roadway here. the volume just starting to build up. as we look at your map, the green and the blue all over. the the blue means some ponding and bigger puddles there and roadway flooding on the shoulders on the slow lanes and over near the center divide. so, just be careful out there. areas like 880 and the downtown off ramps. spinout 880 at grand. the south bay does move well and quick look at palo alto and you still see the lighter traffic flow but the very soupy conditions. >> thanks, mike. coming up next, rivalries.

fire burned through the top floor of the ritz-carlton. no reports of injuries but the chaotic scene caused traffic problems for that surrounding area. it started on the roof, but so far not identified a cause. the hotel isly under renovation and scheduled to reopen in march. now to decision 2016 and the race to the finish. new poll numbers reveal who's top dog for each party just days before the iowa caucuses. tracie potts has been following it all and joins us live from washington, d.c., and the races have tightened. both races. specifically in iowa and new hampshire, tracie. >> in iowa, new hampshire, they have. nationally not so much. our brand-new nbc survey monkey poll out just a couple of hours ago. this morning shows not a lot of difference from last week. hillary clinton in the democratic primary up by 16. and then on the other side, donald trump up by 17. about the same as last week.

in u in our other poll the democrats more than the republicans. donald trump and three other candidates are at the same event in iowa today. ted cruz is packing in six meet and greets in new hampshire. trump's increasing attacks on cruz not mentioning him by name at rallies. >> i heard somebody say, we're going to build a wall. i said, where did that come from? nobody ever says that but me. >> issues are a fair game but he won't launch personal attacks. >> if he or anyone else wants to engage in a battle of insults, he can do so. >> reporter: our polls released just last night show the battle for the republican nomination has given four in ten voters a more negative view of the party. but not having as much of an impact arepublicans. >> you can support someone who has the experience and getting results for people. >> reporter: our polls show more

democrats value experience over change. that could benefit hillary clinton. bernie sanders greets voters in iowa today. >> they want real change in the way we do business. >> reporter: the poll finds more than half of democrats unphased by the tone of their party's campaign. and new this morning, an endorsement for hillary clinton from the human rights campaign, the nation's largest group supporting people who are gay, lesbian or transgender or bisexual. she's due to accept that in iowa next week. >> all right, talking about some of the candidates we know. trump recently challenged apple to bring its manufacturing back home to the united states. >> scott mcgrew, he was not polite about it. >> no, he was not. this was at a speech yesterday at liberty university. he said apple should and i'm quoting, build its computers in america. well, first of all, they're ac computers. trump said he would force apple to move its manufacturing home, despite the fact that in the past he supported a free market.

could a president force such a thing? well, he could if he got congress onboard. technically, yes. but it would be a radical departure from american politics and american business. apple has and does make things in america already. not many things. the mac-pro which is a very minor product line and note all the robots in this video. american manufacturing uses a lot of robots because robots are cheaper than labor. lincoln logs they were once made in america and moved to china and now moved back to maine they're made by robots. the other thing to keep in mind when criticizing apple and china is many of their customers are there. it's a worldwide brand and sells everywhere. same for hp or facebook or clorox. they are based here but sell in asia and europe and worldwide companies. these days the big question whether they'll have the money for iphones.

let's check in with landon dowdy for the rest of that. good morning. >> hi there, scott, good morning to you, as well. wall street will the first two weeks of 2016 behind it. the dow dropping more than 1,400 points on worries about china's economy and tumbling oil prices. but stocks could get a nice bounce today. futures are higher, rather, this morning. investors shrugging off news that china's gdp slowed to the weakest pace in 25 years. oil is higher today, although still below $30 a barrel. look for more earnings today from bank of america, morgan stanley and netflix. on friday, the dow dropping 3 91 points to 15988. the nasdaq down 127 to 4488. scott, back over to you. >> thank you. twitter having some problems la lately, some people getting a screen off and on. it was yesterday, as well something is technically wrong. now, briefly, normally a brief twitter outage not something we would really pay attention to. but twitter has suffered so much

lately as shares were down better than 6% on friday. no trading yesterday because of dr. king's birthday. twitter stock near all-time lows. we'll be watching that this this morning. >> first things first, a technical problem. thank you very much. >> we'll be tweeting out this morning, especially in microclimate weather aright now. that radar has been very colorful. >> yes, a soggy commute this morning. we do have the concern of some urban flooding and some of the low-lying spots. you may want to watch out for some standing water as you head out this morning. taking a live look at the golden gate bridge. you can see the rain through the light just coming down kind of sideways. we will have this wind-blown rain for the next few hours creating a few problems for the morning commute. so, here's what to expect. once again, some roadway flooding possible as the rain continues to pour and we had a lot of it recently. so there's not a lot of places for this to go. this should say morning. and peak wind gusts rolling on through, at least through the

morning hours and then for the sierra, the travel impact we're looking at four to eight inches of additional snowfall. this system moving in, but what i'm really focusing on is the stream of clouds that are well off shore. so, this snow has a lot more energy and moisture that will be rolling on through. until we see this drier air moving in, we will not see this rain cutting off. that may take at least until early afternoon before we start to see some drier conditions. so, looking pretty wet now. we see the bright yellows and reds. that shows where the heaviest rain is falling now. we haven't seen much in the way of lightning. that's good news. but the rain soaking the bay area as you head out. many people getting back on the roadways after the holiday. a look at the rain timeline. we will continue to see more of the rain at times getting more intense. and by 10:00, still a steady rain pouring, but then it gets lighter. by lunchtime, but still some rain and around the bay area. later on this evening, we start to see that rain tapering off as that weather system pushes off

to the east and some drier air moves in. but it will be gusty. here is a look at the wind direction and wind speed. and up to 37 miles per hour in san francisco and oakland. sustained wind and even a little bit higher athe coast. so, that may raise the concern of downed trees and power lines. at least for the next few hours. let's see how the traffic is moving in the tri-valley now with mike. >> it is moving well, but slippery conditions. we want to tell folks to allow a little extra time and, as always, reminding folks for the last few weeks, ease off of that accelerator and definitely ease up on the brakes here. this is the off ramp and slick conditions at many of the bay area off ramps. looking over towards the map, we see the green highlighted all over the map. takes the weather data and applies it to your conditions as you're driving. green is wet and slick and blue means ponding and puddling. we'll get rid of that and easier to see the speed sensors. slowing out of the altamont and

and fans! better protection against concussions. some potentially momentous news for football players and fans. better protection against concussions. this from a new type of helmet. the research that led to its development came from the nfl. the league is under intense pressure right. some calling the current situation with concussions a crisis. some school districts are even ending their football programs over fear of loss lawsuits

involving injuries to players. well, the designers call it it the safest helmet in football. >> layered design and it's completely different from an existing helmet. >> as we compare and benchmark our helmet from other helmets on the market and we're finding significant improvements in the force compared to the current helmets that are available today. >> as the developers mention, that helmet is made up of four layers with a shell that absorbs impact. the developers say that there are some safety tests to perform, but if everything goes well, this could be ready for use as early as next season. some good news for the sleep deprived people out there. it turns out if you catch up on your shut eye during the weekend it may offset health problems associated with sleep laus. small study of young, healthy men shows just four nights of sleep deprivation increase their insulin sensitivity and increase their risk of diabetes by 16%. but after two nights of extra

a very good tuesday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. microclimate weather alert for the second day in a row. a live look at the radar right now. lots of activity all across the bay area. from the north to the south, it's already a very wet morning. a closer look in san jose right now, our camera wet. you see the sprinkles and drops there as the latest storm rolls right through, our second straight morning with rain. >> team coverage as this morning commute gets under way. first, let's get to meteorologist kari hall monitoring this fast-moving storm for us. >> good morning, laura. unlike the storm we saw yesterday, this one last through the morning commute and also into early afternoon for some spots. we are also getting some more intense rain along with the gusty winds and when you have a wind up to 25 to 35 miles an

hour, well, that could bring down some tree limbs and also some power lines. so that a concern as many people get out and about this morning to get the day started. as we step out the door, it's in the mid-50s now and more and more people you can see by the cameras are out on those roadways commuting, heading to work or back to school. temperatures today will reach into the low 60s as we get a chance to dry out. upper 50s for front and the north bay. we'll talk more about how much rain to expect and some of the concerns we'll see through the next few hours. that's coming up in just a few minutes. let's see what's happening as you head through the east bay now with mike. >> kari, we'll show you oakland 880 soupy. we're having trouble keeping track of the taillightsbound and see movement as far as the northbound and southbound commutes go. overall the green painted around the bay, that's where it's going to be wet. and the blue bigger ponding and

p puddling and the latest crash reported there moving to the shoulder. meanwhile, the south bay, although it's wet, it's not quite as bad as far as those conditions go, but those conditions out there, they're a little bit different than you would look at the map. kris sanchez is out there, our friend. things are pretty messy on the hayward side of the bridge. >> you are talking about the effects of the wind and kari has been talking about the amount of rain. we're getting so much in a short amount of time just as the traffic is starting to up this morning you can see as alan has aimed the camera up a little farther how much harder that rain is coming in and coming in nearly sideways, as well. not only do you have to watch for the ponding on the roadways. as you hit the roads this morning, but you do also have to watch for the rain that will make a mess of your windshield. do not forget that the posted speed limit is the suggested speed for the conditions. if the conditions are anything less than perfect, then that speed limit no longer applies and you should really drop your speed, which i would have to say

a lot of folks are not doing this morning. we are aimed towards the bay bridge toll plaza and slowing but only because they have to make it it through the fastrak lanes and we see them approach rather surprise how fast these folks are coming in. a lot of times you don't see the rain on the roadway until it is too late. so, if you come into the a skid and start to hydroplane, remember, let your foot off the breaks a brakes and hold on tight to that steering wheel. it is a very sloppy morning and if we don't have any accidents, i think it will be a miracle. at the bay bridge toll plaza, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> kris, thank you. right now this stormy weather is certainly rattling some nerves on our coastline. live look right now from pacifica. powerful waves have sent water over the sea wall there. but a live look at the damage left behind this morning as we've seen some deterrieration on that pier and the wall there. the retaining wall. caution tape is up to keep people away from the big hole in

the sidewalk that these big waves have created. public works crews filled it up with giant rock to prevent people fromming in. great way to track the storms our free nbc bay area app. click on the weather tab and download the app from the google app store or from google play. from a wet morning commute to a messy evening commute yesterday on the bay bridge. protesters block westbound lanes with their cars and chain themselves to each other. traffic is backed up for hours and thousands of drivers were left stranded. "today in the bay" bob redell is live at the bay bridge and 25 protesters were eventually arrested. >> you're right, lorau good mornimorn morning to you. did arrest 25 people for unlawful assembly and public nuisance. as you can see in this video here late last night all 25 of those people bailed themselves or had someone bail them out of san francisco county jail. now, this stems from a protest here on the bay bridge at around

4:00 yesterday afternoon. this was organized by a group known as black seed. and at that time is what they did was they parked cars across all five lanes of westbound traffic. some of the members even chained them selves to the vehicles and/or each other. effectively shutting down traffic stranding thousands of drivers in the backup. the backup that lasted for hours and inconvenienced many of those people. the group said they're doing this to honor the legacy of dr. martin luther king and also to protest recent police shootings san francisco and oakland. >> i feel like they shouldn't do it it on the bridge because people have places to go and this is a big inconvenience for a lot of people. >> the inconvenience you may have experienced on the bridge, imagine what it is like to be inconvenienced and your well being constantly inconvenienced as a black person. >> the chp did issue a press release in which they wrote,

they recognize the first amendment right to free speech as long as it's not on the bridges or roadways and inconveniencing other people. reporting live here at bay bridge toll plaza, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> we want the police officers involved charged with murder. >> anger also boiled over in san francisco yesterday. protesters shouted over mayor ed lee's speech at a martin luther king jr. celebration. demonstrators say they want justice for mar woods, who was shot and killed by officers last month. police say woods was armed and wanted in connection with the stabbing. an attorney for the woods family is now calling on the federal government to investigate the use of force. a lawsuit by a dozen bullies against the mt. deablow school district goes to court today. the district did not do enough to protect them from martin. he is now serving a 12-year

prison term on 19 counts. the judge removed martin, but the district itself could still be held liable. a call into stanford university for more information on a reported sex assault on campus. here's what we do know. someone reported a sexual battery in the bathroom at 8:00. no word on how the victim is doing this morning. if you know something, you're urged to call stanford police. a masked man with a semiautomatic handgun barged into a five guys restaurant right at the clayton valley shopping center on sunday night. the robber walked in through a side door and confronted employees closing up for the night. the gunman ran off. luckily no one was hurt. well, the woman screams in redwood city appears to have fend off a very scary and what looks to be violent attack. this all hap early yesterday morning. a woman in her late 20s arrived

home and left the front door of her home opened when she was distracted by her dog. the woman's sister talked with us in hopes of getting the word out about the attacker, but did not want to be identified. >> she went outside to take her dogs out and next thing you know somebody was coming towards her. and tried to choke her. he screamed and he said, get up. >> after those screams another family member came to her aid and the perpetrator ran off. if you have any information in this case, contact the san mateo county sheriff department. it is 5:37. battling the clock and the weather. the search continues this morning for a missing ski instructor. 23-year-old carson may was last seen skiing on the back side of sugar bowl ski resort thursday. researchers are scouring the area in two feet of fresh snow. rescue workers are looking in spots he could be sheltering if he is hurt and back country

areas where there were avalanches over the last several days. a live look at san jose as wind and rain continuing to be factors so far this morning and the weather is going to extend. the wet weather into the middle of our morning commute. kari hall monitoring the storm's latest path. >> it won't be until this afternoon. we see the moisture streaming in from the west and you can see the clouds exing well out into the pacific. so, as we go into the next few hours. that will be rolling in and we will have a more widespread rain and some bouts of some heavy rain, as well in the mix as we go through the next few hours. this is the way it looks on the computer models. by 7:00, we do still have the bright yellows and the reds showing that that is where the most intense rain will be. and even by 8:00, we already have a 0.25 on the ground. and it will be slow to soak in. so, that may create some flooding and some of those low lying areas, poor drainage

areas. by 10:00 the rain continues and more steady and becomes much less widespread and little bit lighter, too, through the noon hour and it continues to let up as we go into the day. we will be left with another inch of rain in some spots, but most of us getting about 0.5 to 0.75 of an inch. we'll talk more about that andthex and the next round of rain moving in. let's check in now with mike. >> live look here. 101 northbound and see traffic bogging down. 539. now, this is getting back to the pattern we typically saw before and then things eased up for the end of the year holidays. six weeks before we see this rebuilding. there's 101. not the volume, but as we look at your map. the volume combine would the roadway conditions are the issue this morning. overall i wanted to show you the slowing we on that map and now bring in that road weather index where you'll see the green that is wet and the blue ponding and puddling. that's over here on the peninsula. the weather data translating to

your roadway conditions. minor crashes southbound 680 from walnut creek down to dublin and they're out of the roadway. use caution through that corridor. showing conditions up there very soupy, as well. southbound coming through san rafael and so far you're at speed. back to you. >> thank you very much, pretty wet out there. morgan hill will soon have an inclusive playground built for children with disabilities or special needs. the park behind the centennial recreation center. everything will be built for kids in wheelchairs, as well as children who are deaf or blind. more than 40 volunteers have been working for more than a year to get this park up and running. >> able to do stuff in each areas. they'll have slides anding areas and they'll have teeter-totters. so, they'll be able to do it. the grounds will be wheelchair friendly. we're going to get a wheelchair-type slide, a wheelchair type swing and some

elderly man hit and killed by a san francisco tour bus over a follow up now. the elderly man hit and killed by a san francisco tour bus over the weekend a long-time teacher in the city. 82-year-old peter roel was struck saturday at a crosswalk in lower pacific heights. he was from canada and had worked for a san francisco unified. investigators are still trying to piece together what happened. the tour bus company and the

driver are said to be cooperating with investigators. happening later today, the start of a four-day cpuc hearing looking into allegations that pg&e destroyed records and evidence tied to the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. along with five other explosions between 2010 and 2014. a cpuc law judge is expected to assess whether the utility company broke the law by failing to maintain accurate and safe records. california's puc has already fined $1.5 billion for causing the san bruno explosion. the company could face more penalties in a federal trial, which is expected to take place in march. now, ahead of today's hearing, leaders are going to present what they believe is evidence of shotty record keeping that continued long after the san bruno explosion and said led to a pipeline explosion in carmel. in that case a vacant house blew up in 2014. thankfully no one was hurt, but

weekend, yes, i know it's only tuesday, but this is the second one. bringing a soaking rain across the bay area and as we look farth eer out into the ocean, w do see more of this moisture streaming in and the clouds just targeting the bay area. so, we will see this for the next few hours. bringing in some beneficial rain and, at times, it will be heavy, but most of us seeing pretty steady, moderate rain at this point. we start to see the bright yellows and reds, that shows that the rain will be heavier and that will continue through at least the morning commute. 7:00, 8:00, there's still some rain coming down and then it does get a little bit lighter and becomes less widespread into the lunchtime hour. still a chance of rain. later on today, we will be drying out and the sun will be coming out but it looks like that is right about the same time as the sun will be setting. as we take it it hour by hour, in livermore, we're in the lower 50s starting out the day. at lunchtime, not a day to take the lunch outside. it will be 57 degrees and most

protesters are expected that state capital. flint's water supply has been contaminated with lead for months comes after it switched water supplies to river water. a move to cut costs. michigan is providing lead testing, filters and bottled water to try to stem the crisis, which is now declared a federal state of oemergenemergency. unfortunate news for those in southern california made sick by a major gas leak. looks like the supplier in the region is going to meet a state deadline to do something. southern california edison says it's giving up on trying to trap and burn that gas. this is in porter ranch. thousands are being forced to move. state regulators gave the company until today to do something. but edison says burning off the gas catastrophic explosion and won't be until late next month until they can reach that well and plug it up. happening today, testimony in vermont that could one day impact the rest of the country.

weather alert. this as we take a live look outside, a live look at our satellite dar. you can see heavy rain blanketing of the bay area as we speak. >> our team here in the bay area are ready to get you out the door if that's where you're headed. let's start with meteorologist kari hall. how long will the rain stick around? looks like we're getting a lot of it. >> widespread and will last for a few more hours. this impacting the morning commute as we get a closer look at the scans as it moves around the bay area. right now some of the heaviest rain is moving into the south bay. so, just south of san jose. heading up 101. there may be some standing water on the roads, so watch out for that. as it continues, slick conditions downpours and some breezy winds. we may, at times, haves up to 35 miles an hour. as you go through the morning commute, still very soggy, but this evening it will be drying up. so, i'll detail that and look ahead for the next chance of rain that will be here by the end of the week.
