although patchy fog in spots. >> you'll have to watch out for that. that may be the only thing that slows you down as you head out the door. we are starting out with cooler temperatures in the upper 40s all across the bay area as you take a look at those cameras. you can see there are spots where the visibility is low. temperatures will top out at 65 degrees in the south bay. the peninsula and the east bay, as well as san francisco up to 62 degrees. 65 in the tri-valley. in the north bay looking at 63 degrees. let's check in now with mike to see where the fog may affect your commute. >> the fog is very evident right here. this will be a factor for folks. let's look at your map. golden gate bridge in the north. here is san rafael towards santa rosa. also showing up in patching through the oesk land hills. our oakland camera, we'll look at that in a couple minutes.

i'll show you how things look. eastbound 80 away from the bay bridge there's a minor crash. overall, your speed sensors showing you at the limit. back to you. >> right now we are tracking breaking news on the peninsula. that is where police in san mateo right now asking people in one neighborhood to shelter in place as they look for a burglary suspect. this in the area of west hill dale boulevard and countryside drive. officers say about 2:45 this morning, they got a call about an interrupted residential burglary. once they got there, officers chased a female suspect who they shot at but did not hit. she was taken into custody. they're still at the scene looking for a male suspect believed to be hiding somewhere in that area. people living in the area of west hillsdale boulevard and countryside drive are being asked to stay indoors while they look for the suspect. "today in the bay's" bob redell will give us an update as soon as he goats the scene.

a developing story. a greyhound bus overturning in shaig killing two people on board. >> here is what we know so far. the bus trip started in los angeles overnight with planned stops in san jose and oakland. the chp say it is long trip may have contributed to the crash. the driver, 58-year-old gary bons letter told investigators he felt tired. two people killed, nine others taken to the hospital. >> here is "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd with more. >> the driver left los angeles at 10:30 heading to the bay area. he was scheduled to make several stops including gilroy, san jose. pass jers claim he seemed tired and nodding off at the wheel. the chp says he told investigators he was tired but

did not tell them he fell asleep. >> he said he remembered the bus striking -- there were black barrels out here before the collision which you can see beyond the bus now, and then the next thing he remembered is the bus on its side. >> reporter: passengers say he grabbed a coffee. there are also reports it skidded on the rain slicked road. >> the bus did stop in gilroy, as i mentioned. there were two passengers, a scheduled stop at gilroy. >> reporter: according to u.s. department of transportation, in 2014 driving beyond regulated hours is the number three driver violations in roadside inspections for trucks and buses. greyhound officials say they have strict regulations in place. >> federal regulation requires drivers to get at least eight hours of sleep before driving a

bus. >> reporter: greyhound requires its drivers to have at least nine hours of rest when driving ten consecutive hours. the chp would not confirm how long he had been driving. according to social media, he was brought of his work, posting his picture of himself in his greyhound uniform. >> that was cheryl hurd reporting. the new details now on a different story, and they are not good. this on two missing uc santa cruz students. the coast guard officially giving up its search. late monday a big wave came up and knocked three people into the water. one of the hikers managed to get back up tont rocks. the other two, a 19-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man have not been seen since. the coast guard tried to search yesterday. you know what the weather was like, drenching rain. the man and woman were part of a group of five students south of

davenport. >> the winds were causing a delay with helicopters. for us, getting off rode with our engines and not getting them stuck, that's been an issue, also. >> investigators are not revealing the names of the two missing students, but they are both said to be originally from san jose. >> it is 4:36 right now. we check our forecast. a little break in the rain we've been having lately, but fog to go with it. let's check in with kari. >> looking forward to warmer temperatures. cool to start, concord at 47, 48 in oakland, san francisco and santa rosa. as we take it hour by hour in san francisco, in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees as we go through the mid morning hours, still more clouds hovering overhead. we will get more sunshine this afternoon and high temperatures reaching into the upper 50s, maybe hitting 60 in a couple spots. looking at 64 in los gatos, san

carlos t marine in at 60 degrees. in the north bay, 63, oakland 62 and 65 degrees in pleasanton. i'll let you know how long the warm weather will last in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike. >> we talked about this, over in oakland we said we'll take a look and we are. 880, lower clouds hovering around. some of the areas where there's more foliage and more moisture in the soil. towards dublin we have nice greener areas through the hills but also low cloud cover hovering right above that road deck. as we look at your map, the road weather index shows fog through portions of oakland and the north bay. the south bay peninsula cleared as far as the speeds. >> up next, it's back but it's back. a coveted statue is recovered, the unlikely place and condition it was found. >> san francisco mayor yielding his power on so-called

the value southwest mated at $80,000. there are now questions as to whether it can be salvaged. students and parents in san leandro wondering what's next after teachers voted to authorize a labor strike. those teachers who voted voted to authorize a strike if the new contract agreement can't be reached. the cash denise ilitch strapped district saysist cannot meet union demands. the district also says a strike is not allowed under terms of the current contract. there's no walkout date set, but before classes begin today, some teachers are planning on picketing. >> a big veto coming from san francisco mayor ed lee is not happy about it. the mayor fell through with the floej veto the bike yield law. mayor lee says the legislation trades safety for convenience. an officer ticketed cyclists for rolling through the stop sign.

as we go into the rest of the day, it's looking beautiful. once that fog rolls out, we'll have sunshine and warm temperatures to go along with that. let's take a live look outside right now, san jose. the clouds make it hard to see in some spots. we will continue to see the visibility getting lower as we go towards sunrise. temperatures as you step out are a little bit cooler because we don't have that rain. it is now 49 degrees in san jose. it's 49 in napa, and in concord it's 46 degrees. also 46 in san car rose. as we go hour by hour in livermore, we will start to see the sun peeking out once the fog lifts. it will be mostly sunny by lunchtime and into the mid to upper 50s in the afternoon. we will still see the clouds hovering overhead and we're getting ready for the next weather system. heading into the next few days, temperatures will be very comfortable, even above average in san francisco. between today and tomorrow in the low 60s.

still above average on friday. as the rain moves in, we'll be cooler behind the next system moving in, bringing us slightly cooler temperatures for the weekend but only by a couple degrees. this next area of low pressure looks to arrive late thursday night into early saturday morning. may bring us a little bit longer time period of light rain and the potential of about 2.5 inches of rain in some of the higher spots where we see the most rain accumulation. in the futurecast we see a lot of clouds overhead today. most of the day tomorrow. once again, the rain moving in late into early friday night. as we look ahead into the weekend, temperatures start out in the upper 50s to lower 60s. we'll have more of about the same as the rain moves out on sunday, just a couple degrees cooler in a few spots. let's check in with mike to see what's happening on the roadways. >> kari, you talked about the fog. we can catch that in many of our live shots. in fact, this one in san rafael

was just at the top of the screen and moved down to influence much of this shot. you see a lighter flow of traffic. on your map, that's on the top of your screen over here, you're getting into a foggy area which continues to grow as far as the orange highlighting. novato, santa rosa down into toward san rafael. earlier crash eastbound at abian way, it looks like they cleared it. we showed you the shot of growing fog for 580 as well. speeds show up at the limit, but there may be an issue of visibility as we have more cars on the road in the next half hour. back to you. a new report finds millennials are ditching driver's licens driver's licenses at an al alarming rate. >> for and the rest of your news, we turn to landon dowdy

there's no rain today. a little break in the clouds for us, kari. >> it's looking good. this morning, though, we are dealing with some fog. so that a concern as you drive to work or school this morning, and then in the south bay looking at 65 degrees today. that will feel really nice. 66 tomorrow. friday there's more rain coming in. more of the same in the peninsula. up to 60 degrees by the end of the week in san francisco, going from the low 60s to the upper 50s. over the next three days in the north bay, east shore and tri-valley, looking at 60s, but dropping back into the 50s as the rain begins to pour all through out the day heading into friday. let's check in with mike to see what's happening on those roads. >> kari, it's not raining right now. there's a lot of moisture in the air. looking at the grinl, where they're moving that center divide so you see the lights,

but you also see the glow from the lights and that zipper truck because there's fog right there at the golden gate bridge. look at your map. we're showing the road weather index. denser fog more to the north of san rafael and santa rosa. in the east bay, we've seen it drift through shots of oakland and livermore as well. we also have speeds at the limit for those commuters. this is pretty cool, mike, a real treat for sky watchers. starting friday, all planets visible to the naked eye will be lined up. the show lasts for nearly three weeks. mercury, venus, saturn, mars and jupiter will appear in a single arc. the best viewing will be a few hours before sunrise in southwest and southeastern skies. you won't even need telescopes or binoculars. new details now, the san

francisco bay bridge will shine again, a different kind of light show here. the look at a pretty dark morning so far. this is pre recorded. that's soon going to change. the 25,000 light will illuminate starting next saturday. the ceremony will be held just in time, coincidentally, for the super bowl. new step by cycling enthusiasts to gain access to the western span of the bay bridge. there's already a path for pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge's new eastern span which will eventually terminate at yerba buena island. while they've looked into extending the path, the price tag will be high. members will attend the meeting to provide feedback on possible options. a huge emergency drill happening later on the day.
