a few clouds out there. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. >> good morning, sam and laura. a nice, quiet start to the day with fog and drizzle in parts of the bay area. other than that, we have cool temperatures and headed for the low 60s as we go through the day. as we see some of the spots there on the cameras some fog and mist and highs today up to 60 deit gree degrees and the so to 63 degrees. nice, beautiful weather today. and some clouds moving in late to the north bay. we'll talk about that and, also, i'll let you know if we have any rain in the forecast for this week. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike taking us to the east bay. >> that's right. no cloud cover and no glowing lights, really. nice drive past the coliseum. a note as we look at your map. the spurs coming in town and warriors will try to defend the top position here. let's look at the maps through the area and we see a smooth

drive as far as travel flows go. a nice, easy drive across and the bridges this morning no wind advisory and that's good news for everybody crossing the water. back to you. a developing story this morning. family and friends will continue to scour the south bay today in search of kyle myrick. the san jose man disappeared on friday morning and now place say he was killed. >> kris sanchez has more on how the search to find him turn under to an investigation. >> his alleged killer arrested and his family and friends' shocked turned into a search to find his body. a scorched building in the neighborhood that led him to believe that kyle myrick was killed there and they say he was and allegedly killed by this man, a 39-year-old man from los altos. police arrested him on suspicion of murder at his home and

impounded his truck, as well. police believe myrick was killed but his body has not been recovered and that's why his family and friends are doing what you see right now. searching for his body in wooded areas where alleged killer is connected. they spend the day in lexington because that's where hiebo used to live. >> this is los altos which is where the attacker was arrested. >> now, police say the crime scene is next to a motor bike shop on camden and union avenues in san jose cambreen district. he only worked at that shop less than a week when he was reported missing under suspicious circumstances. no motive has been released in this case. his family is gather, once again, at 7:00 this morning. >> another tough day ahead. thank you very much, kris. the stage is now set. the broncos and the panthers. they both punched their tickets

to super bowl l at levi. preparations continue in the south bay and san francisco. super bowl taking shape along the embarcadero the first morning that commuters will have to figure out their way around the closures and crews are setting up the free to the public fan village right near justin herman plaza. expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans over a nine-day period. detours went up this weekend in front of the ferry building and two blocks of market street. >> two blocks from my house and it doesn't matter. but i know i feel for those people who drive. >> there were also changes to muni routes in the area. super bowl opens next saturday officially. to allow time to take down all those installations. another look at the roads closed to drivers so you have a heads up here. most of the closures are

concentraconse concentrated around the emba embarcade embarcadero. well, you know, sam, not just in san francisco. happening now preparations are under way in the south bay, including san jose. this is a live look at downtown san jose where there will be plenty of experiences for fans of tas the big game nears. right in front of the fairmont hotel being turned into an outdoor cafe and beer garden and ready for fans starting friday going through super bowl sunday. all right, so, let's check in with that countdown clock. there are 13 days to the super bowl at levi stadium coming quickly. >> the hours, minutes, seconds getting close, too. today the pacifica city council expected to give damage assessment of eroding cliffs. waves not so big yesterday but you see the proximity to the homes and many of them still in the danger zone along the coast. the damage started to show up in

mid-december. we talked to many folks who say they're being forced out of their homes with little to no warning and they have no place to go. on friday, the city manager deit it cleared a state of emergency. that is the first step towards getting state and federal help to rebuild that city. >> pretty amazing to see the it damage there. >> just a gaping, missing chunk of land there. we need a break. a little one. let's see how we're looking forecast wise. meteorologist kari hall. good morning. >> good morning. storm systems off shore that could bring in high waves as we go into tomorrow. that may be a concern as we go into the next couple of days. otherwise we walk out the door with temperatures at 46 degrees in san carlos and livermore. it is 50 degrees in concord, as well as napa and san francisco. we're heading into the low 60s today in the south bay. around 60 deit grgrees in san francisco and low to mid-60s else where. we'll talk about that and those waves and what to expect through the rest of the week coming up in a few minutes. let's see how the roads are

moving with mike. >> the roads are moving pretty well as we get into the city via the golden gate bridge. it's in the city we talked about the closures starting already and super bowl city and you'll have to reroute big delays expected around the embarcadero area. as we cross over the bay on the san mateo bridge. sometimes the overnight wind advisory. this morning things are very calm here and on to the peninsula and through the peninsula 101 here in palo alto an easy, light drive. >> thank you very much, mike. coming up next, the snow has subsided and now the digging out begins. the massive blizzard hitting the mid-atlantic and northeast leaves behind more than just snow. the death toll from the destructive storm.

new video right now of the massive earthquake that rocked alaska early yesterday. you're looking at surveillance video showing how powerful the 6.8 quake struck. it hit early sunday morning around 2:00 in the morning right near pedro bay. closer to the epicenter in the peninsula, about 30 homes were evacuated after a gas leak. some 5,000 people lost power in total, but, amazingly, despite the magnitude of that quake no one was injured and no tsunami threat. the digging is far from done for cities and town across the northeast buried by a monster blizzard. freezing temperatures this morning are slowing the removal of snow. in some places more than 30 inches fell between friday and

yesterday. it crippled neighborhood across maryland, virginia and new york. the situation is so weroverwhelg they cannot give a timeline of when the snow will be cleared from the streets. >> give on the condition of many our streets it's safest for all citizens to minimize traffic on our roads. >> so far 30 deaths being blamed on the massive storm including traffic crashes and medical emergencies just from shoveling the snow. how about a bit of good news for travelers there is a sign of relief this morning. airports appear to be getting back on track after more than 11,000 flights were canceled since friday. here in the pay area, sfo has 22 total cancellations. that's right now this morning. we'll keep you updated. no issues reported out of oakland international or san jose. things aflutter. top executives leave the already struggling company.

all right. take a deep breath. here we are at 4:45 on a monday. not necessarily everybody's favorite part of the week. >> you can take a deep breath because we don't have storm after storm rolling through this week. we will have several days to just relax, take in some sunshine. even some warmer temperatures. check out that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. as we take a live look now at the bay bridge, things are getting started with some patchy

fog in san francisco. maybe even just enough drizzle to turn on the windshield wipers. but as we go through the rest of the day, all of that clears oout and we'll get some sunshine as we now start out at 50 degrees in concord and 51 in oakland and santa rosa at 49 degrees. hour-by-hour in san francisco and starting out at 7:00 at 50 degrees and some low 50s as we go through the morning. you still see those clouds hovering overhead, but, once again, the sun will start to come out this afternoon and highs reaching into the upper 50s to lower 60s. we're up to 62 degrees in saratoga today. foster city 59 degrees. also 59 in the mission district. and in napa up to 58 degrees. low 60s for parts of the east bay and even up to 56 deit grees in antioch and livermore looking at 59 degrees. the only concern this week will be some strong winds off shore creating some large waves and looks like the waves get really

high tomorrow and maybe even stronger as we head into thursday. so, that a possibility with the beaches and, also, the eroding we've seen recently right along the coastline. as we go into the rest of the week, high pressure keeps us dry. the jet stream staying well to the north. taking with it it a lot of the weather system that could be moving into the bay area, but that starts to shift to the south and we'll bring in some rain just in time for the weekend. a look at thiswalk, we will have hiz reaching into the upper 50s to lower 60s. could be wet on saturday, especially as we head into sunday. so, we'll keep you up to date on that. let's get a check now with the traffic from mike. >> you're talking about still moisture in the air, folks. we want tashshow you the san ra traffic. light traffic, of course. the north bay map all the way down across the golden gate bridge, no problem. same thing with the east/west bridges we should say. no wind advisories this morning.

morning and likely getting a boost from all-day breakfast opon friday the dow rising to 16094. the nasdaq up 119 to 4591. prices at the pump keep falling. the average price of gas dropping 14 cents in the past two weeks to 1. $1 a gallon. that is the lowest mark in seven years and also 16 cents cheaper than a year ago. however, analysts say prices may have bottomed. if the rebound in crude oil late last week continues. meanwhile, google appears to be doubling down on virtual reality. tech crunch reports the tech giant is looking to build several consumer devices according to new job postings on its website. google says just the google cardboard product which works for smartphones. >> sam and laura back over to you. >> that virtual reality includes the giant ice cream sunday that we just saw on the lawn. shakeup at twitter. major changes coming to the

social media company this week. appropriately enough, twitter ceo jack dorsy is confirming on twitter that four top executives are leaving the company. you know the company head of engineering and vp of global media and vp of human resources. twitter's stock has hit the skids recently falling from o$4 share ago. dorsy hopes to revive the company he co-founded in 2006. laura, drones and selfies. the latest tools that scientists are actually using to track el nino's impact on the california coast. the nature conservancy is asking regular citizens to capture pictures of the flooding and coastal erosion and then post those things to their website. even a free app for drone owners so they can shoot video of the coast and upload it. scientists hope the video will help show the changing

landscape. at 4:49. democratic presidential candidates take center stage tonight in a primetime event just one week ahead of the iowa caucuses. hillary, bernie sanders and martin o'malley will take part in a town hall at drake university in des moines. each candidate will take the stage individually to answer questions from the audience. this is the last democratic forum before next tuesday's caucuses. and happening today, former president bill clinton is going to be on the peninsula. he'll be here to raise money for his wife, hillary clinton. then it's off to san francisco for a resepg tomorrow morning. a picture with him, a picture will cost you nearly $300. and just getting into one of the two events, that's going to cost you $1,000. 4:50 right now. telling her story. saratoga teenager andre paut took her life after being sibersi

it is 4:54. monday morning. check the forecast with kari. >> nice and cool to start and mostly clear skies for parts of the east bay. north bay some clouds and some fog in low spots and in san francisco now it's 50 deit grees. let's drop in on the east bay. now temperatures in pleasanton and also through the day warms up. as we go into the lunchtime hour, it's up to 58 degrees in livermore and some sun mixed in with the clouds. we'll see a mixture of sun and clouds there all throughout the day and looking at more of this weather through the week. let's check in now with mike. how is it it looking for some of those bridges? >> good weather. good view across the bridge. no problem for visibility. the winds are calmer today, too. not that issue on the high rise.

we did start off on the high rise of the foster city side and that disabled vehicle i was looking for but pulled over at the pier. not in lane any more. southbound 880 and an easy drive in both directs either into the south bay or the east bay and farther east a quick look at dublin shows you 580 you have company. and no slowing. back to you. we've all been in a plane before and a little turbulence and it scares you a little bit. a flight forced to land due to severe turbulence that injured some passengers. diverted to new finland last night. that flight was bound for milan when it encountered brief, but violent turbulence. an airline spokesperson says those injuries are not life-threatening. passengers describe those intense moments. >> we were just riding along and then turbulence and it just kind of --

>> the plane actually dropped, you know. >> went on its side and everything went flying and people. yeah, it was pretty intense. >> american airlines put passengers up in hotel rooms overnight. the airline says that it's working to get a new crew for the plane to leave new finland. two kayakers are recovering after being rescued by coast guard crews happened nearby cerby cove west of the golden gate bridge. the coast guard said one of the brothers in kayak started taking on water. he called 911. rescuekcuers pulled each one fr the water. set the rebate. approved rebates of up to 50 bucks for people who reduced their water usage by 35%. now the constra costa times says it it has issued $2.5 million worth of rebates. that same time, it only received $2 million from fines for
