>> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get to that forecast and see what we are in for on this monday morning. here's kari. >> a quiet start to the day with the exception of mist and drizzle to parts in the north bay, as well as san francisco. temperatures are in the upper 40s to near 51 degrees in the east bay and highs reaching 62 degrees in the east bay. san francisco, the peninsula up to 60 degrees and north bay 59 and the tri-valley look for a high of today of 60 degrees. nice and comfortable. mix of sun and clouds. we keep this weather for a few more days. we'll talk about our next chance of rain. that's coming up in the microclimate forecast. but let's check on the golden gate bridge now with mike. >> kari, the bridge itself, it's fine, folks. we can't see the north end of the bridge because low clouds hovering around and you can see it it in the lights, as well. watching for fog to develop. so far no slowing. in the city we do have all the super bowl closures that have

already started. i want to take you to the rest of the bay. green for the south bay and the peninsula and no delaze right now and we'll watch as the traffic starts to build over the tri-valley. we'll show you that. back to you. a developing story. friends and family of a san jose man still searching for his body. police are directing them to areas connected to his suspected killer. this hardly a peaceful weekend for the family of 28-year-old kyle myrick. reported missing on friday and a day later his alleged killer was arrested. >> kris sanchez tracking what is next today. kris? >> the family of kyle myrick have not had time to morn because they have been searching for hid body along with police. san jose police aren't getting too specific about what they found on that scorched building on their screen that leads them to believe that kyle myrick was killed there and killed by this man, steve hiebo. police arrested him on suspicion

of murder saturday morning. police believe myrick was killed but his body has not been recovered. police are searching with helicopters and bringing in dogs and myrick's family also pounding the ground looking for him, as well. they spent the weekend at lexington reservoir because that's near where hiebo used to live. >> initially lots of friends and family and then their friends and family started coming out and now we have people who don't know kyle at all and it's been really. >> >> we want to bring kyle home. >> the crime scene is next to a motor bike shop in cambreen district. myrick had just started a job less than a week ago before he was reported missing on friday under suspicious circumstances. we're trying to find out what those circumstances were. no motive has been released by police in this case, but we can tell you that his family is, once again, gathering at: 7:00

this morning. >> thank you very much. big loss for them. well, happening today, the sexual assault trial of a former 49er star begins in the south bay. a grand jury indicted ray mcdonald on rape charges in august. it stems from an incident in his home in december of 2014 with a woman mcdonald had just met. mcdonald pled not guilty to those charges. if convicted, mcdonald faces up to eight years in prison. the grand jury also indicted current 49er ahmad brook from an incident involving the same woman on the same night. well, the slate is now officially set. broncos/panthers. that's the matchup heading into the super bowl and now the bay area is starting to get ready for the big game. and with those come the preparations of a nightmare on the roadways. already this past weekend, traffic backed up all around. the detours for super bowl city

"today in the bay" chuck coppola joins us from san francisco with some of the trouble spots that you'll want to avoid this morning. chuck, this is really the first test. the first morning commute since those closures. >> absolutely right, sam. look behind me you, you can see the small tent behind me. they have done some work behind me just of the first two days. southbound embarcadero, for example, is now closed at washington street. the detour for the next two and a half weeks sore so will take you west to battery street if you want to avoid some of the congestion. folsom street. that's your best bet if you want to avoid this area. some 90 control parking officers directing traffic and other personnel to help bus riders by their muni bus lines which will

stop two or three blocks short of where they usually stop. happening while local businesses brace for more customers to put in, but also more difficulty getting to work. >> we're trying to schedule extra people and we're telling people to leave even earlier than they usually do and then just being understanding and flexible and making sure we have the staff. >> it's all for construction of super bowl city, that's the free fan village that the nfl is putting up. that work has begun. pedestrians during construction will be allowed to cross from the ferry building behind me and cut a path through the construction zone. we've saw that put up fences on either side. commuters walk to the foot of the street while construction is happening. afterwards, however, a checkpoint there maybe very slow going to meander through there. could factor that in on your commute to work. reporting live in san francisco,

i'm chuck coppola. >> good information. thank you very much, chuck. here's another look at the roads closed to drivers. most of those closures around the embarcadero. streets around the moconi center are also closed for traffic. happening now preparations under way in the south bay, including san jose. a live look at downtown san jose this morning where there will be plenty of experiences for fans as the big game nears. some of them are actually being set up right now. run of the fairmont hotel is being turn under to an outdoor cafe and beer garden. ready for fans through friday going through super bowl sunday. let's take a look at the countdown clock. just 13 days until the super bowl at levi stadium. raiders fans having food and beer next year. happening today the raiders and the coliseum authority are meeting to discuss a possible lease extension for the 2016 season. here's a live look right now at the oakland coliseum.

mark davis is going to be on hand for that private session. now, earlier this month, the nfl approved the rams move to l.a. and the san diego chargers are in negotiations to make the move to l.a. if the chargers opt not to go, the raiders will have another chance to move to l.a. for the 2017 season. rayers fans made their voices heard about the future of the team. they held a rally at jack london square yesterday. the group also made a video hoping to use it to use the raiders to negotiate a deal for a new stadium in oakland. the organizerser of the gathering said the new stadium should be built on the current site. >> the nfl like what the city is doing and, so, they're aligning right now and to work with the oakland raiders, to get a new stadium in oakland and we're excited about that. >> again, the raiders are expected to meet with the coliseum authority this morning about a possible lease

extension. at 5:07. happening today. the pacifica city council will take a closer look at the damage left behind from recent storms as waves continue to relentlessly pound into the pier and retaining walls, many people being forced out of their homes. today bob redell live with the recently deit it cleared state of emergency. good morning, bob. >> good morning to you, laura. the city of pacifica city manager just declared a local state of emergency from the damage the winter storm are causing to properties like the one behind me here by the cliff in pacifica. as you can see in this video, the pacific ocean is just eating more and more into the cliff that supports these apartments. it's so bad that over the past couple of weeks the city has already told two property owners in the city limits that their homes are just too unsafe to live in. now today the pacifica city council will confirm whether or not city manager declaration. if they do say that, yes, we

agree with the city manager, then the city could apply for emergency assistance from the states and federal assistance. battered pacifica with large waves not only eroding the cliffs but causing damage to the pier and city wall. you might recall when we were out here during the big winter storms i would say about six years ago when the city condemned 320 and 330. those apartment buildings are a couple doors down. they never did fall into the ocean, but they are still deemed too unsafe to live in and now people are looking at 310. we just spoke to somebody who lives here who says that it it is safe and that there's no problem here that there is still plenty of cliff left. again, as you heard from the city manager, they have declared a local state of emergency. up to the city council where to confirm that decision some time later today. reporting live here in pacifica, bob redell. the thing is, more big waves

are on the way. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall on when those are expected to hit. >> even though quiet weather here in the bay area for the next few days. still some storms off shore moving to the north of us and kicking up high waves. that a kerp not only today, but again on thursday. here we start out with, once again, quiet conditions. it is now 46 degrees in the east bay and peninsula and as we drop in the north bay it is now 50 degrees in santa rosa and petaluma. 51 degrees and napa now at 41 degrees. some spots seeing some fog and what to expect over the next few days as we go through this first quiet week of the year. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike to see what's happening on the roads. >> good morning, kari. we like to start the week quiet and then ease in. here in dublin, look at that. drier roads and an easy commute. more on the map coming out of the altamont pass.

week on a down note. futures modestly lower and stocks wend on a wild ride posting the first weekly gain of the year thanks to rallies on thursday and friday. hopefully a bounce in oil prices and no major data today but look for reports on home prices, consumer confidence and fourth quarter gdp this week. mcdonald's reports earnings likely from all-day breakfast. the nasdaq up 119 to 4591. google appears to be doubling down on virtual reality. tech crunch reports the etech giant is looking to build several consumer devices according to new job postings on its website. google sells just the google cardboard product which only acts as a viewfinder for smartphones. americans are buying bigger and more expensive homes for the national association of home builders says the average home up from 2660 the year before. almost half of new homes built

last year had more than four bedrooms ands with room for more than three cars. bigger isn't always better for the housing market. new construction has been tilted towards the high end and builders aren't making as many starter homes due to land prices and lack of available mortgages for less affluent buyers. >> lucky them. bigger and better homes. that's about 0.1% of the population here in the bay area. at least in the bay area they have pretty great weather. digging out from snow as cities try to recover from a nonster snowfall. freezing temperatures this morning and slowing all that removal that they're attempting to do of the snow. in some places, more than 30 inches fell between friday and yesterday. crippled maryland, virginia and here you see new york. in some cities like washington, and baltimore, the situation is set to be so overwhelming. city leaders still cannot give a

timeline of when the snow might actually be cleared from the streets. >> given the condition of many of our streets, i believe it is safest for all citizens to minimize on our roads. >> so far at least 30 deaths are being blamed on the massive storm, including traffic crashes and medical emergencies from shoveling snow. for travelers, at least, a sign of relief this morning. airports appear to be getting back on track after more than 11,000 flights were canceled. all of this since friday. here in the bay area, sfo has 22 total cancellations so far this morning. and there are no issues right nowed out of oakland international or san jose. kind of a mild start, in fact, to our monday morning, isn't it kari. >> it it is. the fog always causes problems at sfo. that may be an issue. we see the fog and the drizzle in parts of the coastal areas and then as we go through the day, it warms up. we have beautiful sunshine and comfortable temperatures. a live look outside now. we have mostly clear conditions

and take a look at that seven-day forecast. it's now coming up at the bottom of the screen. we do have a very nice and warm week headed our way and temperatures even slightly above normal in spots. we're now at 46 degrees in the east bay. 47 in the south bay. let's drop in on the south bay to see how those temperatures look as you head out the door in willowglen, it's 44 degrees and downtown it's 43 and in san martin it's now 40 degrees. so, nice and cool. as we go by hour in san jose, a lot of sunshine today. not much fog. and a few clouds mixing in with that sunshine right around noon. and highs reaching into the low 60s today and a nice little breeze. look for a high of 59 degrees in foster city. san francisco and the marina 57 degrees and we're also looking at some upper 50s to lower 60s in the north bay. oakland up to 62 and san ramon today a high of 60 degrees. the only concern we have this week will be some large waves moving in, although wae don't

have any wet weather here, there will still be some storm systems rolling to the north of us and could create some large waves and just off shore we could have some waves up to 20 feet. so, we'll be keeping you up to date on that. our dry pattern continues as high pressure moves in. it steers the jet stream farther to the north and keeps the storm systems away. that starts to move to the south and that jet stream and allows some of the weather systems to move in before the weekend. otherwise, we'll have some dry weather until friday and saturday. let's check in now with mike to see what's happening on the roads. >> we're hoping that means for calmer mutes this week, we'll see. looking over towards oakland where things are looking really nice here. that b.a.r.t. overcrossing and a little bit farther down. why i turned it south and looking for anything that might slow you down and reports of a fire hose in the lanes that has cleared out from what i understand with that issue and i don't know how the fire hose got there. meanwhile the traffic flows

new video now of the massive earthquake that rocked alaska early yesterday. this is surveillance video showing how powerful the 6.8 quake struck. it hit early sunday morning about 2:00 in the morning near pero bay, not far from anchorage. closer to the epicenter about 30 homes were evacuated after a gas leak. some 5,000 people lost power. >> when it really hit i realize, oh, we have an earthquake going

on and it it took me 20 seconds to figure out maybe i need to get under the door frame because i was shaking really good and the lights were just all over the place and it lasts a led a e bit. >> luckily no one was hurt and no tsunami threat. the terrorist involved in november's deadly paris attacks now part of a newly produced propaganda video released by isis. isis posted the 17-minute video and an ap reporter who viewed it said it showed all nine extremists who died in the attacks that kill 130 people. seven of those men are shown in the video executing prisoners. the video also shows them plotting the attacks. so far france is not commenting on the video other than to say its contents are now being studied. coming up, we're inching our way towards the big game. how the super bowl is turning into a super headache for people living and working in san francisco. and the ways you can avoid the mess. plus, a quest for answers. this as investigators try to

from the toll plaza. overnight road crew looks like they're on the move now. southbound 242 an earlier crash looks like it's cleared to the shoulder and right around willow path one vehicle in the roadway. back to you guys. >> thank you, mike. a developing story we're following. in 90 minutes family and friends will resume their search in the south bay hoping for answers in the disappearance of 28-year-old kyle myrick. san jose man vanished on morning and now police say it's a homicide. >> kris sanchez shows where the search is headed this morning. >> the family of kyle myrick here on this side hasn't had time to mourn because they're searching for his body. this is the man suspected of killing him. he's in jail this morning. jose police are not getting specific on what they found at this scorched building that leads them to believe that kyle myrick was killed there and they say that he was and allegedly killed by a man that he knew, steve hlebo, a 39-year-old man from los altos.

police arrested him on suspicion of murder saturday morning at his home about 24 hours after kyle myrick disappeared. the truck was impounded. police believe myrick was killed, although his body has not been recovered. police are continuing to search for hissy by air and on the ground and myrick's family is doing the same thing. they spent the weekend near lexing reservoir because that's where hlebo used to live. >> initially it was lots of friends and family and then their friends and family started coming out. and now we have people that don't know kyle at all. don't know any of us and it's been really good. >> we want to bring kyle home. >> now, police say the crime scene is next to a motor bike shop on camden and union avenues in san jose's cambreen neighborhood. it it appears at this point that the suspect and the victim knew each other that they both worked at that shop. the victim had worked there for less than a week. now, when he was report missing on friday under suspicious circumstances, the police were

called in and, again, that arrest happened about 24 hours later. now, myrick's family is gathering in about an hour and a half to search the bay's edge to pal ops paloalto. laura? >> thank you. critics are calling it it mixed message from the city of san francisco in its plan to reportedly purchase 150 state of the art cameras. "the chronicle" reports the agency is looking to upgrade its traffic monitoring systems with new high-tech cameras. but the agency is focusing on cameras that are ideally suited for facial recognition. while city representatives insist only traffic will be monitored, some critics believe the cameras may be used as a surveillance tool and that violates people's privacy. it is official, we now know who's squaring off in the super bowl. the panthers and the broncos. they are headed to the big game and as it comes closer, just 13

days away. kicking preparations into high gear this morning. with that comes a mess on the roads for people trying to get around san francisco. this is what some of the traffic looked like over the weekend and with more closures and deit it tours expected to get under way later this week, the congestion is onlied to get worse. will be directing traffic around the construction of the nfl's fan village called super bowl city. they'll also be enforcing no parking on most of the streets around. businesses in the area have been asked to farct in contingency plans for getting their employees also to work. >> we are going to be staffed. the thing is, how, when does it start? when does it officially start? next week, tomorrow. so, we're somewhat ready. >> many coffee shops, cafes, delis, et cetera, expect a spike in business but others will be allowing their employees to work from home. northbound embarcadero street traffic behind me and you might be able to see that and that is going to stay open and although expect it to be very crowded. bumper to bumper for much of the nine days out. reporting live from embarcadero, i'm coppola, "today in the it

quickly. and tomorrow santa coulara county leaders getting a look to renovate the fairgrounds in san jose. hope breathe new life into the santa clara fairgrounds. some visited the site to see where it could use an upgrade. several proposals on the table, no plan in place yet. supervisors hope to narrow down those options during tomorrow's regularly scheduled meeting. happening today, trying to pick up the pieces. today the pacifica city council taking a closer look at the damage left befrom recent storms. bob redell joining us live in pacifica where the waves continue to punish the coastline and, bob, it's so important, because we're expecting more waves tomorrow. >> yeah, i don't know if you can hear. we're at the edge of this cliff here in pacifica. i know you can't see the pacific ocean, but perhaps you can hear it behind me and you can see we're just about ten feet away and behind me is an apartment building.

this is 310 and it's because of the situation this apartment building find itself in is the reason why the city council here in pacifica will decide whether or not to declare a state emergency. whether or not to confirm their city manager's decision. you can see in this video the pacific ocean is eating more and more into the cliff that supports these apartments. it's so bad that over the past couple of weeks the city has already told two property owners within the city limits that their homes are too unsafe to live in and, again, the city council will take up this issue today. if they do agree with the city manager's decision and do declare a state of emergency, the city can then apply for emergency assistance from the state and federal governments. now, this winter storm has battered pacifica with large waves since mid-december. not only eroding the cliffs where we're standing right now, but causing damage to the city's pier and sea wall.

at 5:42. happening now, freezing temperatures are slowing the removal process of record snowfall from the mid-atlantic to the. thousands are stuck digging out of their of their homes this morning. "today in the bay" edward lawrence live in washington where the storm blasted through the weekend. eduard recovery process certainly hasn't been easy for folks.

>> and it it won't be easy for the next several days. i'm calling this the big dig. tens of thousands of people are having to dig out from the outskirts of maryland or from washington, d.c., and also up to the suburbs of new york city. we're dealing at the u.s. capitol with almost knee-high snow still in some area. other areas have not been plowed at all and have o30 inch30 inche street. now, the story turns to storm cleanup. cities dig out while digging with below freezing temperatures. >> the roads, they're okay. the main roads are open, they're great, they're flowing and a lot of spots i haven't touched yet and a lot of mist out there. >> reporter: at least 30 deaths are blamed on the storm. many came from traffic accidents and others from heart attacked related to shoveling the snow after it fell. several roofs also collapsed from the storm. >> getting back to business as usual will take a considerable amount of time. >> reporter: some neighborhoods still buried because flows can't get there yet.

there are no issues reported out of oakland international or san jose. coming up on 5:45 here. how do they do it it? these are pictures released by a jail in santa ana after three men escaped. investigators say the inmates cut through half inch steel bars and proceeded to repel off the roof using rope made out of sheets. the inmates include an accused killer, a man facing charges of kidnapping, torture and burglary and a man accused of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. are warning the public to consider all three armed dangerous and they're encouraging people to keep sending in tips. u.s. marshals are offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the inmate's capture. in a twist of fate now. two men running from police ended up having to call 911 to be rescued by police. it it all started friday morning in eldorado county with a traffic stop for swerving. inside that car a man with four active warrants and a parolee.

the man ran into the woods and officers said they found a gun and drugs inside that car. >> in addition to the firearm, there was at least three different types controlled narcotics in the vehicle. methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana. >> the two men dashed down a canyon and crossed the american where despite being wet and cold, they ignored initial calls to surrender. by nightfall the fugitives were so cold that they had to call 911 begging to be arrested. the pair was rescued and taken to the hospital before heading to jail. the latest tools to track el nino's effect on the california coast. the nature conservancy is asking regular citizens to capture pictures of flooding and coastal erosion and then post them to their website. even a free app for drone owners so they can shoot video of the coast and upload it. scientists hope the crowd source photos will show changing

larger up to 20 feet. as the dry pattern continues, we have high pressure moving in. the jet stream well to the north of us. and it's steering those weather systems away from the bay area but this pattern does change as we go into the weekend. maybe a little bit soggy as we head into friday, as well as saturday. a look at the weekend forecast. we'll see those highs reaching into the upper 50s in the east bay on friday. saturday we'll have also more of the same temperatures, slightly cooler on sunday after all of these weather systems move through. we're talking a high of 52 degrees in the north bay on sunday. let's check in now with mike to see how the roads are moving. >> well, kari, they are moving pretty well. over here northbound 80 moves well up to the coliseum. we're seeing slowing at high street, as well. we'll look at the map and some activity there after work, as. the warriors are playing the spurs and trying to defend the number one spot and that's going on this afternoon or this evening. we'll look towards the upper east shore with a build in the volume and slowing and bay

the bay bridge into the city with these headlights out with the lower deck. that's the san francisco side. on the oakland side, both of the same level and it's the bay bridgep at the toll plaza, not a spliz. as we look at your map, we see a nice, easy drive developing. still some slowing for richmond area and we're seeing more traffic on the roadways. we do have slower spots but, really, the slowest issue is highway 4ing into concord because of that crash which is still there on the shoulder and possibly sticking out to one lane at willow pass road. the rest of the area, though, moving well. south 242 watch it it as you're coming into concord and pleasant hill and a pothole in your fast lane. a bigger commute and that's where see some slowing towards livermore and now developing for south 680 through pleasanton. 1014 off of 680 and a crash reported at mckie and sounds like everything has moved to the shoulder and chp is arriving and we'll get more deit tatails fro
