6:09 am
been outlining. now, she can at least take a bit of a breath this morning because a day here of calmer conditions. kari hall joining us live right now and, kari, looking good for today in terms of mid-50s temperatures and maybe warmer than that. >> little bit warmer. feeling like spring, sam. but it is cool to start and some upper 40s now for the east bay and parts of the south bay. look at these highs this afternoon up to 63 degrees in san jose and 62 in palo alto and a mixture of sun and clouds. 58 in napa and 62 in oakland and livermore up to 59 degrees. nice, quiet, calm start to the week. we'll see several more days of that. we'll look at that and more coming up in the forecast and the next chance of rain coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike and see what is happening on the roadways. >> chance of rain in the future. over here towards the san mateo bridge and a good chance this will get more back up here. westbound moves well and we look at the map and only slowing

around the toll plaza. westbound direction. look over here 880 southbound direction. your commute at a street. the a street off ramp just reported blocked by chp. they say there is a crash there. they're still arriving. we'll see additional slowing start to development. that is the pattern there as well as southbound 680 and both heading down towards fremont. that is your commute direction. also here the upper east shore freeway builds through richmond and the bay bridge toll plaza has your metering lights on. towards the toll plaza, but looks like the lanes are clear now. we'll track that. that earlier crash in concord set off some slowing and still there through the area. jump down to the south bay where the only issue 101 showing a little slowing as well as 280 and the build coming up towards the overcrossing. up towards cupertino and up the peninsula through los altos hills and san francisco. >> thanks a lot, mike. coming up next, currency, sure. but no cash allowed. the country making a big push to do away with cash altogether in the next 15 years.

"today in the bay" bob redell live in pacific that city could
6:16 am
declare a local state of emergency to get money for help. good morning, bob. >> yes, laura. you might recall just last week that the city manager here in pacific already declared a local state of emergency and now up to the city council to deitted dec whether or not to confirm. now, this is a 20-unit apartment building. as you can see in this video you can see the situation it's in. right up against the cliff and with the high waves we've been seeing since mid-december that cliff is eroding more and more into the ocean. now, no one here at this location has been asked to leave. no one is saying that, but it's something that the city is concerned about and they want to keep an eye on that. let's say that the city council does agree to declare this state of emergency, then the next step for them is to then apply for money from the state and federal government to get assistance. not only perhaps with this location, but also with the sea wall in the city and the pier which, again, have been damaged

during this winter storm. as you might recall the winter storms of 2009, 2010. it was 320 and 330 which are just a couple buildings behind me that were actually deemed too unsafe to live in. they still stand here on the cliffs, but are still uninhabited. reporting live here in pacifica, bob redell "today in the bay." >> right now not too tough to start off your monday morning here because we haveerate conditions. how about that. completely different than a week ago. >> no need to lug around the umbrella today. we've had to keep with us somewhere close by the past couple of weeks. as we take a live look right now at the bay bridge, things are slowing all across the bridge there and no low clouds and fog, at least there. we've seen it in other spots especially in the north bay and coa close to the coast. 47 degrees in the east bay and south bay and as we drop in on the north bay, take a look at that. 50 degrees in petaluma and santa

rosa. 49 degrees in napa. not a bad way to start out the day and as we go into the hour-by-hour forecast in oakland, still some clouds throughout most of the morning and then the sun starts to peek out right around noon. so, a great day to take the lunch outside with our highs today reaching into the lower 60s. in the south bay, for the next three days, our highs getting warmer. 68 degrees on wednesday and a mixture of sun and clouds. we'll see about the same in the peninsula and san francisco in the lower 60s. so, feeling very comfortable and in the tri-valley up to 65 degrees on wednesday. we'll also see some mid-60s else where. so, even though we don't have any weather systems moving in, we will still have high waves because of storm systems moving to the north of us. so the concern of some high waves and beach erosion still exists and we may even have some higher waves on thursday. our dry weather pattern continues as high pressure builds in keeping the jet stream

farther to the north. taking with it those wet weather systems. but our pattern will be changing as we go into the weekend. the cold front dropping in will bring in a chance of some rain on friday into saturday. so, friday's forecast still looking fairly mild. up to 59 degrees in the east bay. 58 degrees on saturday. it may be a lit bit wetter on saturday but then it all moves out on sunday. high temperatures in the upper 50s. where it will be a touch cooler in some spots, especially like the north bay. we're in the mid-50s and 57 degrees for the south bay. but no rain until friday and also into saturday. let's check in now with mike to see how the roads are moving. >> kari, so far the roadways are moving well. we talked about that mist and watching for any effects of fog on the roadway. we see the glow for the lights but no problems for drivers. the north bay just a note, you may see low clouds and fog and we see the glow in san rafael. the map will show you we don't a lot of slowing but good stuff through this portion all the way across the golden gate bridge and visibility is just fine

there so far. slowing for the richmond area and no surprise there's and, of course, the bay bridge the metering lights on and the backup now 285 towards 24. a new crash south 680 and sounds like three vehicles involved there as we're getting towards the walnut creek interchange. other than that, no surprise for the area. concentrating on san francisco, no deit lays for b.a.r.t. let me point that out. you get off at the embarcadero station and come up on city streets and that's what chuck was talking about. the construction zone for the super bowl activities. reroutes for even pedestrians. be aprized of and chuck will be up in a few minutes to give you more deit tails on what is going on right now. the roadways are moving well, but we have that build and traffic is back after the end of the year break in december. we're looking towards south 880. that crash is consolidated and there is a distraction going by, but not a lot of extra slowing. some build over towards the peninsula on the san mateo and dumba dumba

damage. including right here, a few docks that simply floated hundreds of feet away and landed on somebody's driveway. in another part of the town, you have a boat landed on somebody's driveway. and you're seeing some of the cleanup now. the problem is that sea wall that is just beyond that simply collapsed. and the bay during the storm emptied into this town with about 800 homes and most of them were surrounded by water and, so, although a lot of -- excuse me. a lot of the jersey shore really dodged a bullet, this place really didn't. you have at least 100 homes with water inside. you had dozens of rescues going on during the storm. governor christie is back on the campaign trail, but his lieutenant governor is going to be out surveying the damage later this morning. laura? >> tough go of it it there, thank you so much, jacob. jacob along with the whole "today" show team is spread out across the east coast live reports starting right after "today in the bay" at 7:00.

certainly give you some perspective, no question about that. coming up on 6:47 on your monday morning and a nice, pleasant start here, kari. >> so busy there cleaning up on the east coast and meanwhile some nice, quiet weather. for once, no weather system after weather system expected as we go through this week. so, as we take a leave look now at san jose, we start out with the roads slowing just fine and no wet weather, once again. and we'll see this trend for the next few days. but it is a little cool as you head out the door. it's 47 degrees in the south bay and east bay. as we get a closer look at the east bay and dublin now it's 44 degrees. 47 degrees in hayward and walnut creek at 45 degrees. 49 degrees now in the north bay. and as we go hour by hour in livermore, a mixture of sun and clouds. by 1:00 we're at 58 degrees. up to the lower 60s today and then more clouds moving in later on tonight with lows dropping down to the 40s. the next three days, once again,
6:48 am
look nice and quiet. no rain. and our temperatures warming up. above average in some spots. we're up to 62 degrees in san francisco as we go towards wednesday and in the north bay, up to 63 degrees by the middle of the week. 65 degrees in the tri-valley. now, even though we don't have weather systems moving here, there are still some across the region and off shore that could create some large waves. that raises the concerns about coastal flooding and erosion with some strong waves and high winds as we go into the next few days. our dry weather pattern kicks in as high pressure continues to keep those weather systems farther to the north. but then we will see things changing as we go into the weekend. by friday, we'll have a cold front moving closer and we could see some rain between friday and saturday. so, look at the weekend forecast. we will still have the warm temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 0s starting out the weekend. but it will be a touch cooler by sunday by the time that cold front sweeps off to the east. we may only get up to 54 degrees

and walnut creek. a note for the pittsburg and heading out of there for that one particular b.a.r.t. line and more details as it affects the rest of the commuters. san rafael slowing on a map and the reason is just the volume of cars. look at that commute. glowing lights and no problem for visibility and at least not reported by chp. back to you. >>, thanks so much. happening later today, the raid the coliseum authority planning on meeting to discuss a possible lease extension for the 2016 season. here's a live look at an empty oakland coliseum. raiders owner mark davis on hand for that private session. earlier in the month, you remember the nfl approved the rams move to los angeles. the san diego chargers also inations to make the move to l.a. but if the chargers decide not to go, the raiders will have another chance to move to los angeles for the 2017 season. raiders fans made their voices heard about the future of the team. they held a rally at jack london square yesterday. the group also made a video urging the raiders to negotiate

a deal for a new stadium in oakland. the organizer said the new stadium should be built on the current site. >> the nfl is -- they like what they're doing and they're aligning right now and to work with the oakland raiders, to get a new stadium here in oakland and we're excited about that. >> again, the raiders are expected to meet with the coliseum authority this morning about a possible lease extension. okay, coming up next, homicide, an arrest and no body. the prt seardesperate search th morning for a south bay man who they say likely was killed by his own co-worker.

6:55 am
police continue to search for myrick's body and directed volunteers near lexington r reservo reservoir. >> a lot of friends and family and then their friends and family started coming out and now we have people that don't know kyle at all. don't know any of us and it's been really good. we want to bring kyle home. >> now, the suspect and the victim worked at a motor bike shop in cambrian district. they impounded his white pickup truck 2003 gmc sierra 1500 truck. this is not it. where it was friday evening at 5:00 and saturday morning at 2:00. myrick's family is gathering in about five minutes or so to search the bay's edge. hopefully they will find some answers. sam? >> most certainly. thank you, kris. in san francisco, people will notice the impact of the super bowl this morning. the first morning commute with road closures in effect. >> here we go. "today in the bay" chuck coppola

with how to get around the mess. good morning, chuck. >> good morning. you were seeing the first very little bottleneck. this is washington street. they've closed washington street behind us for the construction of what is going to become super bowl city. we have some pictures of that construction that began this weekend. if you detour from street, by the way, while this construction is going on, it will take you for the next 2 1/2 weeks west to about battery street. battery street is your first option to continue south. any street west of there take you south oor north of the area. on the south part of this super bowl city, folsom street is probably your best alternative or any street south of there. but for any place around the ferry building if you work around here and if you live in this area, try to take mass transit if you can do so. local businesses are bracing for more customers once super bowl city opens. but getting here during construction and definitely after the city is up and running and there are security checkpoints, it will be much more difficult getting through
6:57 am
here. the construction of justin herman plaza, of the super bowl city at justin herman plaza is beginning now and is going to be for the next two and a half weeks or two weeks until the construction is finished and the city is up and running. it will also be up for about four, five days after the super bowl. so, this congestion is going to continue for some time. reporting live in san francisco and i'm chuck coppolla. city needs help fixing cliffs and roadways damaged by the recent storm. >> you saw how far back the cliffs eroded. bob redell live in pacifica. some of that video pretty amazing but not for the people who live there. >> unfortunately, the people are still allowed to live here. this is the property that the city is perhaps most concerned about and you can see why. there's not much backyard left. it's just a cliff, a straight drop that is probably about 10 to 20 feet away from the property line. this is a cliff that has been

eroding during the past several weeks since mid-december because of the winter storm. the city of pacifica manager last week declared a local state of emergency but also because of damage done to the pier and to the city's seawall. today the city council will decide whether or not to confirm that state of emergency and if they do and, as you mentioned, suspected they will, then the city could start applying for assistance from the state and federal government. again, the city council expected today to confirm that there is a local state of emergency because of what the winter storms have been doing to the seaside town. reporting live here in pacifica, bob redell, "today in the bay." a mild start to our morning today, but you expect big waves to return. >> yes, tomorrow. there will be some storm systems off shore but not moving into the bay area. we'll keep our dry weather and now temperatures in the upper 40s starting out the day as we go into the afternoon. we're looking at highs in the low 60s and all across the bay area up to 62 degrees in the east bay. 59 in the north bay and san

francisco topping out at 60 degrees. mike, you're getting a little bit of help this morning from chuck coppola on the ground. the rest of the bay. >> big warning for folks in san francisco. the weather is great, but zee the volume of traffic restoring. so, actually, we'll start in the south bay where traffic flow northbound and you would expect that to be the direction. we see more traffic we have at this time for the last, i think for about the last month. southbound 680 and 880 bothing towards fremont. so, no major incidents but again that volume of traffic bigger than we've seen for the last month. folks, the commute is back. the north bay a nice, easy drive. it's slow. watch it towards the golden gate bridge where see the live span and mist on the screen, as well. kari has been talking about that. as chuck said, all that construction in, super bowl -- >> that party is coming. 13 days away. >> any picks in that game? >> niners. >> if only they were in the game. >> that's what's happening
