a suspect search--- swarming the south bay agencies trying to track down a a suspect search swarming the south bay overnight with three different agencies trying to track down a man running from police. why they'd stopped looking for now. robbed at one of the most tourist friendly places in san francisco. an attack on a sightseer that has city leaders doubling efforts to keep folks safe out of the super bowl. swiped from a b.a.r.t. police locker. the agency is now taking heat this morning for how someone broke into a secure area in the first place. another morning to bundle up. at least we don't have widespread fog across the bay area. as we go into the afternoon, it it warms up nicely. let's see where we begin now in the north bay. it is 45 deit grgrees and 46 in peninsula and south bay. highs up to 67 degrees in the south bay. could start to see those showers moving into the north bay by this afternoon. and then the tri-valley we're up to 65 degrees. we'll talk about that, the rain and a look at the weekend, that's coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike and see what's happening on the nimitz freeway. >> a light volume as you would expect at 4:31. the morning we were watching a crash and it's over on the shoulder, no injuries. look at your map and closer to the bay bridge. another fender bender off the east shore freeway and no major concerns. of course, all the super bowl activity in san francisco and we'll continue to remind you about that and pointed out that orange patch that is way out and

the only sign of low visibility. as kari said, they're looking great. great visibility right now. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. breaking news we're following and the search for a suspect on the run in the south bay. police in sunnyvale tried to pull over a car. the car had three people in it it it leading officers on a chase down highway 101 in san jose. all three eventually ran out of the car in east san jose in the area of kammere rerx. officers spent the past few hours searching for that man, but no longer canvassing the neighborhood. we are making calls to confirm, we are hearing reports the chase started after a home invasion on matilda avenue in sunnyvale. stephanie chuang tracking the story and bring us an update in our next half hour. someone stole a stockpile of police riot gear right oout of

storage locker. the door to the storage room found propped open when that gear was stolen. a riot helmehelmet, a gas mask with uniform and boots all snatched. you see the list of items right there. now, some b.a.r.t. riders are worried what the thief would do with that riot gear. >> everybody around here should be aware. it it is kind of alarming that stuff like this is happening. >> so police did not provide any description of a suspect. they say that all that gear together is worth about $1,000. 4:33. a tourist robbed in the middle of the day at one of the most famous lookout points in san francisco and all comes as millions of people descend on the bay area for super bowl l. happened yesterday on twin peaks. the victim was in the breathtaking views of the city when she was attacked. >> as she walked down the hill, she was met by two suspects who approached her, maced her and

proceeded to rob her. >> it's not the first incident to actually happen there. police say the robberies are actually happening and becoming a big issue in that area. now, they're putting officers and undercover units to try to combat the crime problem. meantime, do you recognize these guys? there we go. san jose police recently released this video of four men want trd stealing from a nike store last month. it it happened at the west gate mall just several days before christmas. police say they left in a bronze hien day. they have not made any arrests yet and they're looking for your help. a san jose man sexually assaulting and killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old son is expected to be in court. police arrested manuel lopez on tuesday two weeks after the child died. autopsy results showed signs of sexual abuse and lopez was allegedly linked to that crime. a look at your microclimates this morning. for the most part, a pretty

similar story. a lot of temps in the 40s right now, kari. >> that's where we start and where we warm up as we go into this afternoon and it it will feel very nice after a cool start. a heavier jacket needed this morning, but not later on today. it's now 48 degrees in san francisco and the peninsula at 46 degrees as we drop in on the east bay, we have some lower 40s in some spots. and a look at, once again, all of our microclimates and temperatures making it into the low to mid-60s. even some upper 60s in spots like oakland where we get up to 68 degrees. we'll talk more about that, the rain moving in and a look ahead to the weekend. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's check in now with mike and see what's happening on those roads. >> not a lot around the bay area. one spot over here on 580 i found. westbound your commute direction moves well and you have company almost any time of day. we'll look at the map and show you not westbound. it's eastbound getting over and reports of an earlier crash and looks like slowing on scene and may be moving some vehicles from

tazman drive is going to be closed for more than a week. some restaurants in the area are a bit concerned that that closure will steer business away while others are stocking up. but everyone is preparing for a traffic nightmare. >> i think we're going to be really busy that day. that whole week, actually, is going to be crazy. >> it is a parking lot, you know, normal commute hours. >> so, just imagine what it's going to be like during the height of the super bowl. some folks who live in the area say they plan to leave town entirely for the big event. or rent out your room. >> you can always head to san francisco, as well, as we're just days away from the opening day of super bowl l. metal detectors, fences, lots of police will be at security checkpoints and by saturday bags will be restricted to 18 by 18 inches. san francisco's police chief says there's one more safe guard he wants, but might not get. a no-fly zone.

coming up right now on 4:45. we're all smiles this morning. hopefully you are, too. >> it's almost friday. >> 24 hours to go and a different story not just because the end of the week, but also a lot rainier on friday. >> yes, we will have some rain off and on and dry all week and we're getting ready for that to change as we go into the next 24 hours. so, as we take a live look now from san bruno, we, for once, don't have the low clouds and fog this morning. and doesn't mean it will stay that way. we may see some fog developing in some spots. as the seven-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen, you can see how our weather will be changing for the weekend and

into next week. and looking at where we do see some of the fog now over the delta and for the inner bay, but, once again, it's not really thick and it hasn't caused any problems as far as you heading out for work or school for that morning commute. so, it is looking good for now as we continue on with our chilly temperatures only starting out in the 40s. as we go hour by hour in san jose mixture of sun and clouds throughout the morning and temperatures warming up to the mid-60s today. it will feel so nice. up to 65 degrees in gilroy. pacifica 70 degrees and nice place to relax and embarcadero at 63 degrees and 60 in santa rosa and oakland looking at 68 degrees and in the tri-valley we're up to 67 degrees in danville. but all this warm air will quickly end this weekend. getting ready for not only some chilly temperatures, but some rain. it starts out later on this afternoon for the north bay. but we won't see anywhere else

getting in on the showers until tomorrow. as that system kind of stalls out just to the north of us and that's where the heaviest rain will be. we'll see off and on showers all throughout the day on friday, but it looks like it will wrap up by saturday. and then as far as rainfall totals. we will, once again, see the heaviest rain from santa rosa oover towards napa and then you go to san francisco and it really drops off to about 0.5, maybe 0.75. and then in san jose, we're looking at maybe 0.1 or just a little bit more. checking out the sierra. if you're going there this weekend, be mindful that we may have a foot of snow in some of those higher elevations. let's check in now with mike to see what's happening on the roads. >> very calm, again, by comparison to what is going on in the sierra over the next few days. the south bay a smooth drive. 101 looks great from this live camera and show you overall the south bay also looks great. green indicating speeds at the limit all over there. in fact, all over your bay.

no delay towards the bay bridge and all the activity in san francisco because of those closures. super bowl city around the embarcadero area and on the embarcadero and nfl experience. let's take a live look at the north bay and san rafael. southbound 101 an easy, light drive. the view of the roadways is great from our cameras and no problems for fog this morning. back to you. >> awfully clear out there, thank you very much, mike. amazon expected to advertise during the super bowl for the first time. >> for more on that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to landon dowdy. i love the commercials, landon. >> me, too. that's the only reason i watch the super bowl. i'm totally kidding. stocks look to rebound today and the futures are higher. the market osold off wednesday on partially disappointing earnings and investors keying on the fed which kept interest rates unchanged and leaving the door open for a hike in march even as they admit that the economy has, in fact, slowed. we get data on unemployment and pending home sales and earnings from ford, amazon and microsoft.

the dow falling 223 points to 15944. the nasdaq losing 100 to 4468. watch shares of facebook today. they soared 12% in late trading wednesday. beat earnings forecast on continued growth in mobile advertising both on its site and instagram. the company is exploring a possible standalone site where users can watch videos. facebook stock is adding to zuckerberg's fortunes. the sixth richest person in the world according to forbes. amazon is getting in the big game. they will air their first super bowl ad this year. it features amazon's echo speaker, which has a virtual assistant named alexa. this helps them plan a super bowl party. a 30-second ad costs $5 million this year. guys, back over to you. >> wow, pretty penny. >> that's because everyone

watches for the commercials, landon. thank you very much. >> i'm with landon. it is 4:48. decision 2016. tonight gop presidential hopefuls have one last chance to impress iowa voters oon the debate stage, that is unless you're donald trump. trump still insists he'll be else where when the red light goes on from the camera it's all the buzz in politics. boycotting the debate over fox news moderator who trump does not like and fox insists will not be going anywhere. trump is still doing well in the polls in iowa. the question is whether his hard line will help or hurt his chances after losing last monday's caucuses. some rivals are intere s ars ar. >> this is not a show. this is serious. you don't walk away. >> you stand up and fight. >> trump is planning to stage a benefit event in iowa honoring veterans tonight. that is happening that same time

as the debate. at 4:49. happening later today, what is in a name? for the golden state warriors, it means big bucks. a major announcement that will be made that will name the team's new arena in san francisco. the team struck a deal with jpmorgan chase deeming the new arena the chase center. unclear the bank named for those naming rights but some analysts figure it could be more than $200 million. some fans say they'll have to get used to the name change when the new arena opens in 2019. >> kind of associate oracle with the crowd noise and everything and the build up of the warriors. so, i think, you know, it's not going to have the same ring to it coming into chase as opposed to coming into oracle arena. >> but it could be appropriate since players will be chasing around steph curry on the court. the ceo of chase, jamie diamion was at last night's game.

the two are planning to make the official announcement later today. the mvp steph curry also expected to be there. >> you get good seats. verizon has until this afternoon to get rid of this big ad in san francisco. have you seen it? it sits on two sides of the embarcadero high rise. the problem this type of ad is illegal under city rules and the city attorney wants it down. he sent a letter to verizon and manager of the building that says if the sign does not come down, the city will sue to have it removed immediately. a super bowl committee spokesperson says they're working to modify the banners. happening later today. the largest retailer in the world. walmart is officially shutting down more than 100 stores. that includes one in san jose and another in oakland. the company made that announcement about two weeks ago saying it's now focusing on super centers and ecommerce. a major overhaul to a popular bay area park. this bringing relief to many, quite literally and quite publicly.

we like to call it friday eve around here on a thursday which means we're taking a peek at the weekend already and that includes a forecast, kari. >> it starts out wet tomorrow and then as we go into saturday, looks like most of us will be taking a break, maybe a light, spotty shower or two. and then we'll have another round of rain moving in on sunday. but it looks like some of the trends have taken that rain little bit farther to the south. so, the weekend may not be a washout, but it it will be much cooler. we'll talk more about that coming up in just a few minutes. let's check in now with mike and see how traffic is moving. >> it is looking great. golden gate bridge. these folks moving these cones. two heading north and four heading south. that is the traditional pattern distribution for traffic flow

there. that truck had just a bit of a problem. make sure they clear the golden gate bridge without any delays we see there and an easy flow across the earlier slow down has cleared up. little slowing out of the altamont. a typical pattern just now coming in towards that tri-valley. back to you. >> mike, thank you so much. san francisco reopened one of its most popular park, dolores park after a $20 million renovation. what is everyone talking about the next day? lots of buzz about one tiny cement urinal. you think think you're in europe if you just walk by and you might not realize what that is. what it is is a quick place to relieve yourself. planters put it in as an alternative to the bushes that they say some park goers always seem to use. people we spoke to believe it's out of the way enough that it probably won't be a nuisance.

>> i'm sam brock. the strategy this morning, bundle up and enjoy this day. we have one more kari. >> we do. temperatures very warm especially in the south bay. another one that feels like spring, but we're about to head back to winter. as we start out now it's in the mid-40s in the north bay, as well as the south bay and highs today reaching 64 degrees in san francisco. we will start to see some scattered rain moving into the north bay while the rest of the bay area stays dry and we're looking at 65 degrees in the tri-valley. we'll talk about that weekend rain that's coming up in a few minutes. let's see how the roads are flowing now with mike. >> karia little concerned about that zipper truck moving across the golden gate bridge. it took them just a couple of minutes and got back on the move, again, clearing towards the north side. no problems here and no problems to or from that north bay commute. visibility is great all around the map and no major incidents. there's a look at your freeways and the little orange you see
