police finding the body of 28-year-old kyle myrick. a multimillion-dollar home slowly sliding down a san francisco hillside. crews move in franticly as more wet weather awaits. i'm bob redell. we will show you how law enforcement plans on keeping the bay area secure during the week leading up to the super bowl. "today in the bay" starts now. it is friday. thank you for joining us here. i'm sam brock. good morning. >> i thought you were going to say thank god. >> i almost did. i'm laura garcia cannon. let's thank god for the weather out there. we are getting a lot of rain. that's the promise when these el ninos went through. we will have scattered light rain all throughout the day. some of the heaviest rain staying in the north bay. most of us will be measuring maybe up to 0.10 in the south bay and about .25 as we go into the afternoon. temperatures feeling pretty mild in the upper 50s.

that's about where we will stay with a high of 62 in the south bay. let's check in with mike. let's take a look at 580. you do see a nicely flowing but well populated view. i want to show you the maps. a little farther east, it does renlster with wet roadways. that's where it came through part of the system. as kari has been talking about, rain throughout many parts of the bay. your roadways will be slick in most of your commute spots. we don't see any slowing. we'll take you across the bay brinl bridge to show you the low clouds that may be a factor. >> all new. a rough night for one walnut creek homeowner. he woke up to what he thought was an earthquake. was it actually? a massive oak tree that fell down from a nearby park and directly hit his house all over the yard there as well. this happened early this morning on lancaster right near

interstate 680 not too far away from newell. everyone inside the home escaped injury. police did not give an estimate on the damage to the home. damages as in lost money for homes. a developing story. a $2 million san francisco dream home looking more like eye nightmare. it has been torn down. it used to sit on top of a hillside. it is at risk of going down with the landslide. we caught crews working on tearing the house down. we have the latest on this emergency demolition and the family whose house it is, steph, they just bought it. >> reporter: luckily, sam, they hadn't moved in m yet. a blessing in disguise. more rain on the way. the ground are already saturated. this home already moved more than m one foot in four days. other homes here, they are threatened and crews are set to be back here this morning to

continue the emergency demolition. you see all the rubble here. machinery is already in place. that work began yesterday to break down this house. the owner told us he bought it in october. his family hadn't moved in yet. they were planning on minor remodeling. last week, a neighbor called city building inspectors to report a massive crack in an exterior wall and a growing gap between the driveway and the sidewalk. that's something other neighbors reported seeing at their properties. >> the water pressure just pushed up the dirt here and the gravel by, what, six inches or so. yesterday, it was only up to about here. so it has doubled the width. >> that neighbor along with four others here are tasked with getting an engineer to come and inspect the soil in their yard. the city already said the demolished house here is on an active landslide. they do plan on keeping the foundation as something to keep

the hillside more stable with more wet weather on the way and the ground saturated. plenty of anxiety here in this neighborhood. stephanie chuang, today in the bay a tragic end to a near week-long search. friends and family fears came true. the body of kyle myrick was found almost a week after he disappeared. he is the campbell man that was murdered by his co-worker. a tip led investigators to the jameson creek area near boulder creek 25 miles from where he was seen working at gp sports this san jose. the family made the announcement last night and san jose police confirmed it. family and friends hoped for the best. they are finally getting some closure. >> all the love that has been shown in the last few days for him as his father p has been overwhelming. i did not realize how many people my son had touched.

>> still no word on when a funeral will be held. the man accused of killing my rick, his co-worker, steve labo, remains in jail on murder charges. also new this morning, a woman's body found in east bay waters. oakland police made this discovery shortly before 3:00 yesterday afternoon behind a home on fernside boulevard in alameda behind the san leandro bay. the victim has not been identified. no word on what the cause of death was. the police say there were no signs of trauma to her body an investigation is underway following a deadly plane crash in sonoma county after a single engine plane came spiraling down about 7:00 last night into someone's backyard. the crash happened near the end of wood ranch road less than two miles south of the sonoma county airport. the faa says the plane was headed towards the airport as it was flying from palm springs to santa rosa.

a witness said he didn't notice anything unusual around the time. the plane just fell out of the sky. >> there was no fire but there was a little bit of smoke coming off of the rear of the airplane or what was left of it anyway. >> there were two people on board the plane. we don't have them identified yet, a male and female. they appear to be in their mid-60s. we don't know much about them yet. >> weather conditions were reportedly soggy when the plane went down. no word yet on what caused that crash. >> more rain, substantially more rain here today. >> that's right. >> look at this. for some, it is already here. a live look at doppler radar this morning. as the storm moves its way through the north bay. a live outside the golden gate brinl. already, pretty slick out there. >> a couple of raindrops meteorologist, kari hall tracking the system. a wet friday for most people, specially in the north bay. that's where the heaviest

rain will be. you can see the light rain falling there. that is what we can expect all throughout the day. light showers off and on and a breezy wind. not seeing anything that would cause too many problems but, of course, when you get a little bit of rain on those roads, it creates some slick conditions for drivers. so that through the morning commute is what we can expect. light rain across the bay area. very hit or miss. as we go into this evening, the rain starts to taper off. we'll talk about this weekend coming up in less than ten minutes. let's check in with mike. >> thank you for that shot. it is the best illustration of the conditions you need to worry about. the traffic is light. the rain is light as well. as we look at your map, we had a spinout reported south 280 at daly city. that did clear. there are the closures for super bowl city and nfl experience. more activity as we open up this weekend. we'll talk more about that this weekend. we did have some slowing. looks like the overnight road crew has cleared and so has the

rest of the bay roadways. we have a little build coming off the altamont. back to you. you have been reporting on the road closures due to the super bowl, now just a little over a week away. security across the bay area about to tighten from san francisco to san jose. authorities are trying to keep everybody safe. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell live at levi stadium, one of the places federal agents are going to be sparming starting today. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. federal agents want to get in place as a lot of the facilities start tomorrow today, the fbi is opening its command center. it will house roughly 60 members of law enforcement and from there they can coordinate security operations for all the super bowl venues, not just levi stadium but super bowl city and the nfl experience in san francisco.

>> local, state and federal law enforcement will be sharing information in real time so we are all on the same page. that's critical to understanding what the situation is throughout the bay area and then responding appropriately. >> reporter: the feds have called on a lot of resources, including a bomb squad they have brought into the bay area, bomb squad has been equipped with robots. now, yesterday, san jose police also took us inside their command center located inside police headquarters. from there, officers could monitor video cameras set up throughout the city and xhup kate with other law enforcement agencies on a secure network. san jose's merge unit, which is their version of s.w.a.t., also demonstrated their readiness in taking down an active shooter. last week, in the week leading up to super bowl xlix, there were threats. there are no known threats for

$6 million last night. >> quite the event there. thank you, tracy. the democratic front-runner, hillary clinton, also in iowa, running neck in neck with bernie sanders. you can watch clinton on "nbc nightly news" tonight. she speaks to anchor, lester holt, about her campaign and the fight to win iowa. in the meantime, as the government's mandatory health coverage m deadline comes closer. the deadline for open enrollment is sunday. the while house is ramping up efforts to make sure people know about it. healthcare.gov, more people have signed up than all of last year. a kaiser survey finds out that only 15% of the uninsured realize sunday is the open enrollment deadline. it also finds one person in 100 is aware the minimum penalty goes up to $695 this year if you are not insured or 2% of your income, whichever is higher.

walgreen's has sent a stern letter to a bay area laboratory. >> scott mcgrew says, don't test our customers blood in your northern california lab. we are guessing this relates to the government's relapse crackdown on what's going on. >> that's exactly right, sam. we told you about that thursday. the government telling the formerly hot silicon valley start-up, it's labs were a mess. based on that report, the walgreen's drugs store chain has told them not to use their labs to run tests for customers. it is shutting down the only in-store testing center in the bay area we're away of in palo alto. another blow for elizabeth holmes, for at one time was the poster person for young tech entrepreneurs making billions on paper for her invention, a machine that could test a single drop of blood for dozens of ailments. first, it was alleged that the invention may not return accurate results. then, a newspaper reporter revealed the company may not

yes, we will put an end to the dry weather we have seen all week long. it is still dry in san jose. i think we will still have several more hours of dry weather here before the light, spotty hours start to make it into the south bay later on this morning and afternoon. temperatures, as you head out the door, are in the mid to upper 50s. a mild start. as you take a look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, we may only see this for high temperatures as we go into early next week. so it is going to be much cooler. we're heading back to winter. that brings in some wet weather with some scattered light rain. some of the heaviest rain now staying well to the north of us. by 9:00, a wet commute and some breezy winds all throughout the day and then by later on tonight, the rain starts to taper off. we'll see that happening throughout the day on saturday as well. now, looking at the futurecast as we go deeper into the weekend, not a whole lot happening saturday morning or saturday afternoon. so i think you will be able to get out maybe even some breaks

in the clouds to give us some sunshine. we can't rule out a spot shower or two that may pop up throughout the day. it shouldn't do anything to ruin your outdoor plans. then, on sunday, we'll start to see the next storm system moving in. it will stay well to the south of us but still may sling some moisture up into the bay area to bring us a spotty shower or two as we go into the afternoop. th this does not look like a washout. the rain will be m less in areas like san jose, . 10. let's check in with mike and see what's happening in the north bay ghchlt have bay. >> we are talking about the rain. there will be slick conditions in many patches around the bay. we will show you the maps with that live shot. over here in the east bay, the upper eastshore freeway. a spinout farther east, 680 at lavorna. the car hit the center divide

gruesome murder case. friends fanand families learn t tragic news at a vigil. the body of kyle myrick was found in the santa cruz mountains almost a week after he disappeared. a tip led investigators to his remains. friends and family were still hoping and holding on for the best, they are finally now getting some closure. from our sister station telemundo, live in san francisco with reaction, a lot to absorb. >> reporter: good morning, people have been coming here to leave candles for kyle. this is a place where p a week ago, investigators found a crime scene and his body has been located 25 miles from here in the santa cruz mountains. that's where the body of the 28-year-old was located thanks to a tip that led detectives to the area. his father got the news yesterday as a group of family and friends had gathered for a vigil. it was an emotional moment for those who spent a week searching for kyle.

investigators say the gun he used was a stolen gun from a federal agent. today, his attorney is going to request that all charges be dropped arguing that a judge last year made procedural mistakes during a preliminary hearing three san francisco city workers accused of corruption are scheduled to be arraigned today, keith jackson, zulu may jones and former commissioner, natalie mosier, are all facing felony charges. prosecutors say each took money from undercover agents seeking access to the mayor. each was link today the racketeering case involving state senator lee yin ye and gang pin raymond chau. a one time san francisco 49 err now ensnared in a in probe.

festivities kick off tomorrow. talking about that secret command center, yesterday, the fbi gave us a sneak peek inside secretly located with the joint operation center which will house 60 members of law enforcement from agencies at the local, state and federal levels. it will allow all agencies to share information and intelligence in real time at the same time in case there is a threat. the fbi is also asking you at home if you see something suspicious, say something. >> we need the public's help. we don't know what people are thinking. we don't read minds. >> san jose police also gave us a look inside their command center inside police headquarters at the place where they can monitor video cameras throughout the city. they brought up an interesting point. they said, last year, at super bowl 49, which was in phoenix, that city received on afrmg around 15 to 20 threats a day

aimed at the super bowl. this was in the week leading up to the game. so far, there have been no threats against the santa clara venue at levi stadium or any threats at the super bowl 50 activities. reporting live in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay." super bowl festivities ramping up across the bay area this weekend. tonight in san jose, a super bowl 50 celebration kicking off at plaza day caesar chavez park. our crew stopped by to scope out the area and see how the progress was going. live music and food trucks and games and competition for kids and nfl experience in the south bay too. if you can't get there tonight, the celebration continues from noon until 10:00 p.m. each day tomorrow right through super bowl sunday. >> so many big events happening. here are some other ones. key dates leading up to super bowl sunday. >> super bowl city and the nfl

experience, the official one, opens to fans tomorrow. there is also super bowl opening night. it used to be known as media day. fans will be able to see coaches and players address the media at the s.a.p. center on monday and finally the nfl honored. conan owe brip is going to host the award ceremony at the bill graham pacific auditorium the night before the super bowl. >> how many times do we say super bowl. a live look at the golden gate brinl. we knee a squeegee on that lens. a new policy will be in place on the golden gate because of the super bowl. starting today through super bowl sunday, you will not be able to visit this or the golden gate visitors center during peak hours. from 11:00 in the morning to 5:00 at night. you must take a tour bus or taxi or other ride sharing service. the idea is to keep traffic moofk along the bridges.

driver. >> a congressman in washington wants to hold congressional hearings into the software used by juniper network. they found back doors in their software, the kind that spy agencies would put in the software to spy on people. juniper has since fixed it. it is the kind of back door the u.s. government has asked silicon valley to put in their software and we won't do it. a texas congressman, william herd, wants to know, in the case of juniper network who did it. the suspicion is our government did. the spy software is very similar to what the nsa uses and congress is asking 24 governmental agencies if they did it. it is geeky news. but, to review, the government asks juniper and other silicon valley companies to put spy software in the sis estimate. the companies say no. juniper ends up with the software ne a

health coverage deadline nears - some contrasting trends appear to be emerging. ==vo== the deadline for op enrollme is welcome back. as the government health care deadline comes near, the deadline is sunday, the white house is ramping up efforts to make sure people know. healthcare.gov says more people have signed up than all of last year but a kaiser survey finds only in 100 is aware the minimum penalt 15% of the uninsured realize sunday is the end of the open health care deadline. the minimum penalty goes up to $695 if not insured we are keeping close tabs on the threat of mosquitos infected with the zika virus. so far, none have been found. typically, they don't breed in the bay area.
