clamping down on security measures as we go full swing into super bowl weekend. don't be surprised when you see fighter jets, police forces and canines patrolling our skies and streets. plus, finding a way around the bay this weekend. b.a.r.t. numbers are about to pop as football fans and partiers pour into san francisco and santa clara. what's a super bowl party without another fireworks show? city leaders want to avoid the pitfalls of the last celebration when fireworks washed ashore. weather with meteorologist kari hall. another weekend to bundle up as we start out with temperatures in the upper 30s and fog in some spots. else where it's clear and temperatures in the lower 40s and we will be reaching into the 60s today. mid-60s for the peninsula and the south bay. in san francisco up to 63 degrees. our temperatures continue to go up heading into the weekend. i'll detail that coming up in a few minutes, but let's check in now with mike giving us a view of the san mateo obridge. >> a clear view it is. looking at a clear drive from this shot however eastbound going away from foster city up the high rise reports a fender bender, minor crash there, but a deit straction and anything over the water could be an issue if we don't see the volume of traffic, still. the commute direction is with the arrow coming in towards foster city. we'll track that while it's still on the report and zoom up here. the upper east shore freeway will look great and a patch or

two of fog developing later on. right now the drivers, no problems reported by chp. back to you. >> mike, thank you. gearing up for game day. law enforcement officers are preparing both on the ground and in the air to ensure everyone's safety at the super bowl. >> "today in the bay" bob redell live at the stadium where men and women will be out in full force. what is their game plan? >> even though there is no specific threat that has been directed towards the super bowl, the federal government does consider this venue to be a potential terrorist target. that's why the department of homeland security has classified this event as a level one security event. something that the agency has done for the super bowl for the past ten years now. more than 60 agency from the federal, state and local levels involved in securing levi stadium and all the super bowl venues. this is the scene yesterday at the transportation security headquarters where roughly 30 canine teams arrived from

seattle and atlanta to secure the largest mass transit system which will be carrying fans to and from sunday's game. no agency will confirm the exact number of police officers in the renalen this week, only to say it's in the thousands and at the bay area airports and deit apartment of homeland security increasing its use of the so-called behavioral detection officers. the agents look for the smallest hints in someone's mannierisms to determine if they pose a security threat. the local emergency operation center has been activated. right now operating at a level one. come sunday they will increase that to a level three. reporting live here from levi stadium, "today in the bay." >> no doubt one of the safest places on the planet. another fireworks show is planned for tonight at super bowl city, even though the smoke is yet to clear from the last show and the smoke we're talking about is really what happened the day after. that's what lots of burned out

fireworks, canisters and casings washed at aquatic park. the show's sponsor, macy's is talking about the matter and talking to the production team. while the park service is not blaming macy's other firework shows in the past have not led to the same problems. >> could prevent people from enjoying the beach and also prevents people from enjoying the lagoon. >> and the pyrotechniqck team said it probably came from a bad mix of wind, tide and current and plan to boost efforts to minimize the impact. happening today, a live look at san francisco's super bowl city where excited crowds getting larger by the day checking out all those nfl events. the puppy bowl continues, as well, as puppies from the bay area animal shelters will be running some plays on a mock field set with the hopes of finding their forever home p.

san francisco and it it will be much more comfortable with not as much wind into the weekend, we're getting ready for highs in the 70s in some spots. i'll detail that coming up in about ten minutes. let's see what's happening on the roadways now with mike. >> karia good commute as far as the speed sensors and we'll show that. a good amount of vehicles. westbound 580 and the off ramp and a clear visibility here and look at your map and we don't see any slowing, just a good number of cars and moving nicely through the altamont and move your map out and show you the south bay with no delays. santa cloira the sight of the super bowl but we'll see activities today, tomorrow and on super bowl sunday. keep that in mind. the area right around levi has been closed all week. over here super bowl city in san francisco. other ways to get into the city. b.a.r.t. has been doing great as other mass transit. the roadway physical you're driving, they're fine right now. back to you. >> let's hope it stays that way. coming up next, the case of

new details on an east bay homicide. police stepping up their efforts

to find the person responsible for killing a san leandro man back in december of 2014. the reward for information leading to an arrest has doubled and now stands at $50,000. joe ramirez was shot and killed in his driveway after coming home from his girlfriend's house. police believe the shooter mistook him for a nearby pot grower, but ramirez was not tied to any criminal activity. >> we started to learn some things about joel. joel not only being a good member of this community and being a college student, he had an aspiration to be a police officer. he could have been standing shoulder to shoulder with any one of us. >> we want to make sure the person responsible for this gets put behind bars. >> well, right now in terms if you have any information regarding this case, contact san leandro police immediately. a chp officer stabbed in the throat earlier this week is getting better. he's still in the hospital, but

no longer in critical condition. andrew sirinko was attacked tuesday near a homeless encampment to an on ramp in the bay bridge in san francisco. stabbed the officer several times, including in the neck. the motive for the attack remains unclear. he made his first court appearance yesterday. the chp officers were in the courtroom with a show of support. an east bay man reportedly facing charges after authorities say he triggered a pipe bomb scare. according to contra costa times it happened in a strip mall. the man was in the midst of an altercation and threw a pipe into another man's truck. a bomb squad showed up right after the device turned out to be fake. but right now the charges are still pretty real. the man is being detained that county jail. coming up, the biggest half-time show in recent history. the performers are arriving in

weather and traffic together. it's friday morning. hello. >> the other end of the desk. >> what do you have on your end? we know we've been seeing cold starts to our days this week. that trend continuing again today. >> it will be getting milder heading into the next couple of days and this afternoon will be

very nice. so, make sure as you head out the door, you're wearing long sleeves and you have some short sleeves you can wear as temperatures warm up. take a look at the seven-day forecast as it comes up at the bottom oof the screen. our temperatures will be much milder heading into the next few days but it is cool out there now. in the east bay, 38 deit grgree. north bay we had some fog and still in the upper 30s. as we get a closer look at the east bay now. livermore is at 39 degrees and dublin is at 36 and lafayette is now at 34 degrees. in san francisco, it is 44 degrees. as we take it hour by hour in the south bay, our temperatures start out at about 43 degrees, but all of that sunshine warm those temperatures up very quickly. and by this afternoon we're up to 66 degrees by 3:00. and as you get ready to head home during that evening commute, we are still in the lower 60s. and we will have some mid-60s in parts of the peninsula, like palo alto 65 degrees and the

mission district 63 deit grgree 65 in oakland and san ramon looking at 62 degrees. so, heading into the weekend, there will be a couple of weather systems, but moving farther to the north and kind of fizzling out before that cold front gets here. and in the meantime, high pressure will continue to nudge in from the south and that will keep our weather dry and allow our temperatures to continue to warm. that warming trend continues into the start of next week. as we do keep it rain free, it would be nice to see some showers in the forecast, but as you can take a look at the bottom there, you can tell we have nothing but sun icons for every day into next week. so, we are enjoying some milder temperatures that's in the low to mid-60s. upper 60s and even 70 deit grgrn saturday and more widespread 70s and up to 73 deit grgrees for s bowl sunday in the south bay. let's see what's when you cross

the san rafael bridge with mike. >> clear roadway. that's okay i'm in tstanding in the middle of it. little slowing towards that richmond san rafael bridge. the toll plaza where it was red earlier. the speeds are improving and may have been a road crew that cleared the area recently. registering some fog in the north bay as kari talked about patches or two. a crash north 242 that just registered on our report from chp. they don't have a lot of detail, but doesn't sound serious and some debris in the roadway. this other crash getting off the san mateo bridge and high rise from the hayward side and no slowing as far as our sensors go. we had a quick look at fremont behind me there. no problems, guys. back to you. >> mike, taking that man on the street approach to a whole new level. thank you very much, mike. super bowl sunday is not only about football, obviously, it's also about the ads and this year they're going for praty

penny. >> i'd say. maybe a little football news, as well. look at that jersey on landon dowdy today. >> is that a cam newton dare i guess? sam, you got it. good morning to you both. we'll get to the jersey in just a second. quick check of your markets. the dow moved from negative to positive more than once before ultimately closing up 80 points. wall street will be watching for today's january jobs report at 8:30 a.m. eastern. economists are expecting 185 thousand nonfarm payrolls and unemployment rate of 5%. the jobs report will have a big impact not only on today's market movements but on the federal reserve. a strong number could encourage them to raise interest rates and could persuade them to move off. the nasdaq up five to 4509. get ready for some football. super bowl sunday is here and that, of course, means lots of

viewers for advertisers. the cost of a 30-second ad is $5 million. that's up 11% from last year. car companies, financial services and food companies are spending the most this year. the most commercial time with 3:30 ads include mercedes and go daddy. i do pride myself on being an unbias journalist and including in football -- >> look at that. >> she's double faced. >> manning in the back. >> and panthers in the front. newton in the front. that's pretty cool. that's neat. >> i think landon is a carolina girl. are you from carolina? let's get it out there right now, landon. >> i do have to say, i probably won't be turning around a lot today. >> okay. you know what, we'll check back on monday. thanks a lot, landon. see if she turns that jersey around or not. a bay area football team

playing in this year's super bowl. but the bay area's rich super bowl history will be on display during that coin toss. >> they're all participating in the coin flip and that includes steve young there. look, he's wearing his red tie now. most valuable player awards and where do we begin? how about with three-time mvp joe montana flipping the coin. joining him jerry rice and steve young and meantime for the raiders we have former super bowl mvp marcus ellen, jim plunkett. >> you can expect a lot of entertainment during the super bowl half-time show on sunday. coldplay will be headlining act. the super stars say they're a bit nervous as they think about the size of the oaudience and te musical performers. >> everyone who does this show knows it's the biggest on earth, the biggest privilege. they put their life in solitude.

we watched all the other half-time shows many times and most of them are fantastic. >> cold play won't be the only ones taking the stage at levi stadium. yes, beyonce will also be joining them. coldplay says there will be a third act on stage, but, so far, they're keeping that a secret. if you want me to talk a little longer to show beyonce, sorry. >> it's her fierceness that we're admiring right now, laura. who is going to win the super bowl? jimmy fallon brought out the parade of puppies, tonight, of course on "tonight show" to make their prediction. >> big bundle of love there. the puppies chose between panthers and broncos food. what are they going to? pretty obvious. the broncos their pick. you're probably asking how accurate are fallon's puppies. they picked the ravensver the niners and last year's kentucky derby winner. >> that was like a split

we are now another day closer, which means that the pressure ticks up, kari, as we look at super bowl weekend. >> it's all eyes on sunday and, of course this forecast is what everyone wants to know how to dress going to the game and, of course, it's just a jersey. 68 degrees. some sun blocking the sunglasses and all that stuff, but it will be beautiful for the game. let's check in now with mike to see what's happening on the roadways. >> looking over here towards the roadways at 101. people have to remind me. looking over towards palo alto. other live shots will show you a similar volume. san jose northbound 101, some cars but not much problem. the speeds are at the limit throughout silicon valley.
