>> we do. it will not be as warm as yesterday. our temperatures come down a couple degrees in spots but we're going to be in the mid to upper 70s once again and a cool start as we are now at 50 degrees in san francisco and the peninsula highs reaching 73 in the north bay and san francisco, and 79 in the south bay. more about the warmth and a look to the weekend coming up in a few minutes. let's get an update on the morning commute with mike. >> good morning. clear and steady look at the bay bridge, beautiful view of the city by the bay and we still have the closures, super bowl city and the like. you don't see any slowing, didn't see it on the live camera either. the warriors play tonight but much less of a crowd around the bay. more many commuters heading into san francisco and around the bay yesterday. we had some good slowing in smaen spots including the south bay but clear as a bell. back to you. thanks so much. breaking overnight, at least

nine people confirmed dead so far more than 150 others injured from a crash involving two trains directly colliding in germany. all of this happening about an hour outside of munich. in the country's southern region. one of those trains derailed near the city of bad aibling. all of the available rescue teams are in the crash shot. they had a tough time getting there because it's in a very remote part of the country. rescue helicopters carried people on a rope across a river to waiting ambulances on the other side. we're told all survivors are now safe and investigators are beginning the process of looking through that wreckage. turned into a violent flashpoint in hong kong where yesterday's lunar new year went into chaotic confrontation. police used pepper spray, protesters throwing bricks setting fires. the violence the worst in more

than a year. police made more than 20 arrests i should say. activists are angry over a crackdown on vendor sales at popular outdoor markets. back in the bay area a lunar new year celebration took a dangerous turn with fireworks possibly sparking a fire at a south bay strip mall. today in the bay's is live where it all unraveled last night. the fire is out but the cleanup efforts are just beginning. >> reporter: yes. you know fire crews put out the fire around 9:00 p.m. last night but as you mentioned they are working on cleaning up. look at the debris. plenty of fireworks debris. we see the car over there. plenty of debris on it. show you some of the video from last night the fireworks show in front of the grand century shopping mall in san jose and looks to be a tree catching on fire there but, of course, this is all under investigation. and hundreds of people gathered here at this location to celebrate the lunar new year. now i want to point out fireworks are illegal in san jose so we're still waiting to get information on who

authorized the sew in the first place. here's what one witness we talked to had to say. >> really loud. people do nothing. watching the fireworks and the other one watching the tree on fire. >> reporter: so there's still plenty of cleanup that needs to be happening over here, guys. no injuries were reported and none of the adjacent buildings were harmed. as we mentioned the fire is still under investigation. live in san jose, for "today in the bay". >> thanks so much, pete. 4:34 on tuesday morning. moving to decision 2016. some votes have been cast in new hampshire the nation's first presidential primary is getting under way. three small towns voted just after midnight. so far there's no runaway, just a handful of ballots were cast. on the democratic side, bernie sanders appears to be [ inaudible ] because he's from neighboring vermont. >> i will ask you respectfully to please consider giving me the

livermore 43 degrees. and look at these highs again today. up to 78 degrees in san jose. we had so many records set all across the bay area. i do still expect it to reach 80 degrees in half moon bay. yesterday it was 83 degrees. financial district up to 72 degrees. 76 in santa rosa and danville today 77. we'll talk more about this warmth, the records and we'll let you know how long it lasts. let's get an update on the morning commute with mike. >> we'll let you know how long this lasts. fremont looks great, easy drive towards the south bay. that's where the camera is all the way down through the south bay. highway 9 had an earlier crash, looked like the activity has cleared up but never a major issue as far as the bulk of the commute goes. excellent drive. anywhere north of there zoom out and not see slowing out of the altamont yesterday. traffic tuesday we should see a bulk of traffic. folks have to get back to work. back to you. >> got to pay for the weekend.

vaccine research an improving health services. some of the money would be diverted to central and south america where the virus is spreading. there's growing concern ahead of this year's summer olympics in brazil which is basically ground zero for the zika virus. >> it's difficult to give advice to people who have devoted the last x number of years training for that. what we can do at the cdc and nih is give them the facts and the evidence based information. speaking of the cdc it reports 51 known zika cases in the continental u.s. zika is not a big health risk for most people but can be extremely harmful for pregnant women. their babies can be born with abnormally small heads. now to an investigative unit exclusive a federal lawmaker adding muscle to debate about pay per view boxing. first exposed small businesses are getting clobbered by

in the bay area. now a live look at san jose. a cool start. those temperatures cooled off quickly once the sun set yesterday evening after reaching into the upper 70s for many spots. as the seven-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen, you can see that our temperatures will be going down a few degrees each day and we're now at 43 degrees in santa rosa and livermore, concord 45 and san francisco at 50 degrees. here's a look at some of the record highs we had set yesterday in kentfield, san rafael, napa 78 and at the airport 73. in oakland, 79 degrees, san jose topped out at 87 and monterey, 84 degrees. don't tell me that's not a beach day. as we go into the next several hours in livermore, we're up to 64 degrees by 11:00 and another day to take the lunch outside as we reach into the low 70s. there will be some more clouds moving in tonight and this is the reason why. we've had a high pressure slowly

going to break down, move off to the east and allow for some cold fronts to move in, but these fronts moving in will be still very dry. only bringing an increase in cloud cover. we will start to see clouds moving in tonight and slightly cooler temperatures tomorrow. a looks at the five day trend in san francisco, we're still into the low 70s. so maybe some more records set. and then tomorrow we're up to 67 degrees. by friday we're at 64 which is still above average. the average high temperature is 59 degrees and we don't have that anywhere in this five-day forecast. let's check in now with mike to get an idea of what's happening as you head out the door. >> we don't have any real slowing showing up anywhere on my sensors and that's great stuff. 580 here an easy drive. no delays out of the altamont to the dublin interchange. the san mateo bridge, folks coming westbound off the high rose. you see how light the traffic here is.

city council now has 30 days to appoint an interim mayor. that mayor will serve out the remainder of the term. from the bay area to beyond the stars, next year's super bowl is going to be played in texas, also home to nasa's johnson space center. that's why the host committee asked commander scott kelly to accept the handoff, look at the hands on him, from on board the international space station. this launches the third time that houston is going to host the super bowl and the city's mayor says they are already feeling the pressure. >> the host committee of san francisco, of the super bowl 50, let me just say an incredible, incredible job. you all have set the bar so very, very high. >> certainly was a smooth week of festivities here in the bay area. meantime houston's last super bowl was back in 2004. >> we'll see if they have their countdown clock going. drive at your own risk.

temperatures to start off the week in the morning. low 40s now moving up inching our way up. >> moving up, yes, we are. >> take you through the day as we start out for the commute we will be at 50 degrees in oakland and also some low 40s in livermore. heading into the lunch time hour we'll continue to see the temperatures rising very quickly. morgan hills, 72 at noon and napa 66 degrees. during the drive home, we will start to see the temperatures coming back down in a few spots after hitting the high in napa 69, livermore 71, and san francisco we'll be at 68 degrees. we'll take a look at the rest the of the forecast coming up. let's get an update on the morning commute with mike. >> we're looking at a very smooth drive right now. it's tuesday. we expect a bigger build after a lot of folks decided not to commute in last week towards san francisco. over here we're looking at a crash getting away from the bridge. it's at el for tell for east bay 80. car scraped the center divide. sounds like the that's the only

issue. no lanes blocked from what i understand. easy drive through the dublin interchange. little start from the sensors to change from green. no delay of the southbound. a live camera, palo alto, same thing northbound. back to you. one of the bay area's most scenic biking destinations being called one of its most dangerous. cyclists and lawmakers are pressing the state parks department to make mt. diablo safer. they're urging for the department to paint 17 miles of double yellow striping in walnut creek so cars stay in their lanes. cyclists hope it's going to cut down on near collisions like these which has bikers, they say their experiences they've felt firsthand. >> a number have come around a southern corner and seen a car and not having time to put my hands on the brakes and knew it was going to hurt. >> park officials admit the process has been delayed and point to an incomplete survey and plenty of public comments. but they say there are plans to

put that double stripping down by next summer. even so cyclists want drivers to slow down to enjoy the scenery but also to share the road. >> four minutes to 5:00. mounting concerns this morning over crumbling concrete inside t bay bridge's tunnel. see the hole left behind by a two-foot chunk of concrete that it fell into traffic. it did cause minor damage when it fell down ten days ago. no one was hurt but it's sparking conversation about whether it could happen again. we showed this image to an engineer who believes its deterioration was caused by a rusted support beam. >> very concerning because the steel provides a lot of area for corrosion to form. >> it's one of the things we're investigating. at this point we're not ruling anything in or out. >> cal trans won't speculate on a fix until they're convinced they know the extent of the problem. >> coming you up we are tracking the latest on a shooting in the
