pass. that's a little unusual for this time of morning. a new crash just in before 101. we'll get more details. don't see any slowing there or on the approach to the bay bridge. back to you z. >> at 5:01, we do have an update to breaking news for you this morning. human rights activists say russian war planes have destroyed a doctors without borders facility in northern syria. they say ten died, dozens others were hurt. one activist tells the "associated press" the entire building collapsed and all medical team members inside the facility were killed. syrian troops have been on the offensive in northern syria. under the cover of russian air strikes. just on friday, the u.s. and russia brokered a truth for a cease-fire in syria. a popular bay area tourist destination has turned crime scene and police are trying to

piece together clues into a double homicide at twin peaks over the weekend. >> stephanie chuang is live there with the latest. >> good morning, steph. >> good morning, laura and sam. on a clear day, i can see the golden gate bridge, the bay brinl. these are the views that draw crowds, including people that have been here throughout the early morning. there is one patrol car over there and another san francisco police car there. officers saying they are here as security because of the large crowds through valentine's day. san francisco police have been walking and driving around this area, twin peaks look outsince just after 2:00 yesterday. it killed a 22-year-old man and almost killed an 18-year-old man. neither have released their identities. we do know investigators are

looking for a man they believe targeted these three victims. >> the city is pretty safe in general. >> there were so many people around. >> reporter: san francisco officers have started to add officers after two people attack and robbed a tourist almost three years ago on january 27th. police say the woman was walking down the hill when suspects maced her and robbed her. this area is notorious for car break-ins. police have been talking about not just patrol that are visible but undercover. there are some security cameras that we can see from here. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." police found a loaded gun after reports of shots in fairfield. it happened at 3:30 yesterday afternoon near santa clara

state. police found no victims but an alert scitizen noticed a man looking in nearby bushes. he ran away before police could catch him. officers found a loaded handgun in those bushes. police have released this picture you see of the gun. if you have information about the shooting, you are asked to call police sfwchlt cl a developing story in the south bay. many lingering questions this morning after a car crashed into a pole which turned into a homicide investigation in san jose. "today in the bay," bob redell, joining us live. bob, we spoke with the man who owns the car and he told us what he knows. good morning. >> reporter: we have spoken to san jose police who tell us they are still looking for a suspect in the shooting that took place just over 24 hours ago. this happened in the alleyway in the valley. it was around 3:45 yesterday morning. someone shot and killed the driver of that black, 1993

oldsmobile. you can see the driver's side window was shot out. the car ended up crashing into a pole. as you mentioned, we did speak with the owner of that car. he didn't want to be identified. he tells us he believes this was a random act of violence. >> my son uses my car. my son got home from work. his roommate went out to park the car for him. rolled up back here to find a parking space. somebody shot him. >> his roommate. >> someone shot his roommate. >> nobody was chasing him t was just somebody was out looking to do some damage. >> another person tells nbc area they saw four people in dark clothing roaming that neighborhood. not one was armed with a gun. >> residents called that area south of blossom and west of the expressway the crime zone. police tell us yesterday's shooting does not appear to be gang-related and there was

nothing in the victim's backound to indicate why he would be targeted. >> thank you very much, bob. at 5:05, an east bay man driving to work says his truck was shot by a crossbow. it happened last wednesday afternoon. he said he was driving when he heard something hit his work truck. when he got out to look, he found a crossbow arrow sticking out of the truck. >> what year are we living in? >> 5:06. addressing a growing problem. ten palo alto teenagers have committed suicide on caltrain tracks in the last six years. county leaders called on the centers for disease control and prevention to try and help out. tomorrow, a five-member team is going to study how to strengthen suicide prevention efforts. that team will be in the bay yar for about two weeks immediating with local leaders and doctors. it follows three months of research. bring in your pets at night,

advice from the department of fish and wildlife after a new study found mountain lions are eating an alarming number of house pets. the san francisco chronicle got ahold of the study. it found more than 40 mountain lions had eaton a dog, cat, or other house pet last year. they say it is best to keep your pets indoors. department is holding public meetings in brisbane focusing on pet safety. one is later this month. the other nis march. >> that's pretty scary there. 5:07 right now. on the up and up. good day to take the animals outside. even to the beach. >> enjoy it. we will have major changes on the way as we go through the rest of the week. nice and mild to start. upper 50s, low 60s as you head out the door and look at where we are headed today. i do expect to set minirecords. we are up to 78 degrees. san carlos, 74.

death of supreme courjustice antonin scalia. as names of possible what a fallout this morning over the unexpected death of supreme court justice scalia as names of possible replacements start to trickle in. republicans are pushing for president obama to hold off on naming a successor. >> kris sanchez tracking the latest developments and when we will find out who could replace justice scalia. >> the biggest question will not be who will it be or will it be possible. the constitution requires that the president nominate a new justice as soon as possible but the republicans, as you might imagine, say it is just too close to the election and that the next president should decide. the body of the 79-year-old justice arrived in virginia

overnight. he died this weekend at a texas ranch of an apparent heart attack while bird hunting with friends. he was appointed by president ronald reagan in 1976. a known conservative and often the tie-breaker. president obama has said he will appoint his successor and it is the senate's responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and also a timely vote. we'll hear from president obama in the next half hour. here are some of the folks under consideration this morning. the first is a 48-year-old judge on the u.s. court of appeals who won unanimous senate psri srinivasan, and paul watford and when he was nominated, he had democratic and republican support. also, patricia millett, not sure

when you do wake up, it is going to be amazing. you are in for a great monday. we are going to have a lot of sunshine and some very warm temperatures but don't expect it to be like that all week long. we'll talk about that in a second as we take a live look outside. you have clear conditions and a nice start to the day. it is not as cool but a little bit of chill to the air as we start out now in the upper 50s and the south bay and east bay. the peninsula at 54 degrees. let's drop in on the east bay. economic it out in livermore. 61 degrees and 65 in castro valley. this may be how we see those high temperatures m, where we see those high temperatures by the end of the week but we have been talking about those records. here is a look at some of the numbers. some of them said just last year. now, as we go into the day, we are looking at a high today in santa rosa, up to 82 degrees. the record is 6 76 degrees. in san francisco, very close.

in oakland, we'll smash that old record. it is all because of high pressure that continues just to the west of us. it is bringing in more of the northerly wind into the middle of the week. we'll see the rain return. this is a look at wednesday night. we'll see a lot of green. this is what the radar will look like showing some showers falling as we go into the day. our temperatures will be changing too. we are in the 60s and 70s. widespread today. even some 80s. we'll see the same thing again tomorrow. then, as that rain moves in, we will start to see those 50s moving into the coast and low 60s for the inland area. initial look at how much rain we could see shows the possibility of half an inch to maybe an inch and a half. nice little soaking before the dry weather returns. let's check in with mike to see what's happening on the roadway. a great look ahead. >> a look right now at oakland shows you a smooth flow of traffic at high street coming up to the area. we had the camera turned. let's show you the map. we are looking for any

court. we turn to "today in the bay" tracie potts. it looks like we may have to check back in with tracy. the dynamic of the supreme court has most certainly changed. it was evenly balanced between conservatives and progressives and now with scalia's death, it leans with progressives. are. two people shot dead at twin peaks. they are piecing together clues to try to nab the gunman. stephanie chuang is live there with what we know so far. we are going to get to steph coming up in just a moment. you can see that police officers are still heavily patrolling the area. it is so popular with tourists. they have had some problems there. we will check back with steph in a moment as she is gathering information right now.

>> in in the meantime, 5:35. a memorial service for an east bay police officer shot and killed in his own home. the service for richmond police officer sergeant gas vegas is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on friday. the 58-year-old veteran police officer was killed in his vallejo home early thursday morning. police arrested robert vega in connection to his shooting. he is the father of officer vegas' grandson. the sergeant was a 15-year veteran. friday's memorial is open to the public. members of the church came together to remember their spiritual leader, their pastor allegedly killed by his own son. officers says 54-year-old kamen bostick was found stabbed to death inside his apartment on friday. he was the pastor of mt. olive apocalypse holy church in menlo

park that his parents started. during yesterday's service, they remember bostick's dedication to god. pastors from other churches spoke in his honor. bostick's son, isaiah bostick, is now in jail accused of his murder. he was found at the apartment with blood on his hand and clothing z. >> a developing story, a car crash in san jose turned into a homicide investigation. a family is left with many lingering questions. stephanie chuang is there live with what we know so far. >> reporter: there are security cameras here. i spoke with two officers that said they are extra eyes for everybody coming in and out of this lookout. this parking lot all early morning long. you can see why. look at that view. the bay bridge, golden gate bridge, the entire city, very popular. there is extra police yesterday for valentine's day. it should continue throughout this long weekend. police have actually been here patrolling since the shooting after 2:00 yesterday morning when officers arrived. they found three men shot, a 20-year-old and 22-year-old died and an 18-year-old is still fighting for his life at last check. we don't know who these three men are. we do know investigators are still looking for the gunman who targeted his three victims and took off. >> it is pretty shocking, yeah. it is so uncaharacteristic of or

we have anything from 49 degrees in santa cteresa to 62 in campbell and 64 in sunnyvale. we do have a wide range in temperatures. we will see that for this afternoon as well. are looking at the records, a few spots to pick out where we are expected to reach well beyond the record high like hayward. the record was just set last year of 75 degrees. today, up to 75 in oakland, up to 80 degrees. about 7 above the record high. in san francisco, we may not set a new record but we will be watching that very closely. in san jose, we will most likely set a new record there. by lunchtime, here we are, 70 degrees. into the low to mid-70s today with mostly sunny skies. high pressure just to the west of us giving us a northerly flow
