"today in the bay" starts now. very good tuesday morning. >> we have a lot to get to, but first a check of your weather. we have one more day of warmer temperatures and then a big change in the works. kari hall here to explain. >> good morning. we're getting ready for some rain finally to return to the bay area. but we do have one last warm and dry day all across the bay area as we start out now for most of us in the mid-50s with clear skies. the winds will pick up today, we'll start to see more clouds moving it in, but still up to 80 degrees in the south bay and north bay. san francisco looking at 76 degrees in the east bay and tri-valley, into the upper 70s. i'll detail all of this it and that rain and give you an idea of the time line coming up.

rifle for a real one. investigators say mitchell's wife reported him missing from their santa rose home over the weekend. they found his car parked in bodega bay sunday morning, but no sign of mitchell. deputies do not suspect foul play. a twist in the investigation of a double homicide at continue peaks. a traffic stop in rich honored lands an arrest. and now investigators say they have caught the gun man. >> stephanie chuang joining us live. we have new details about the suspect that you just learned. >> reporter: yes, good morning. we've learned that the suspected gunman is 27-year-old richard contreras booked into county jail on two charges of murder and one attempted murder as well as carjacking assault a firearm and also possession of a firearm by a felon. so apparently this man already had a record before this shooting early sunday morning that killed two young men at the twin peaks lookout where of course you see this memorial

with flowers, candles and t-shirt also lying there. the search for the suspect ended yesterday in richmond. police pinpointed a dark gray suv they believe he had car jacked after the shooting. just after 2:00 sunday morning. and a traffic stop led to the arrest and search of a home in richmond. so far, though, police have not recovered the gun used in this double homicide that left an 1-year-old fighting for his life and killed a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old. the family says he was a landscaper and just hanging out with his friends when he was killed. so far people have raised $800 out of an $8,000 goal for his funeral and memorial costs. that is on go fund me. police have said this is not a random shooting, that the gunman knew his victims. we still don't know the motive. we're expecting to hear from police later today. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." happening today, a man

suspected in the death of his co-workers expected to be back in court. steve libo is accused of killing a 28-year-old last month. the two men had been working together at a moeltorcycle shop. investigators believe he killed him behind the shop and disposed of the body in the mountains. police say steve libo admitted to getting into a tight with the victim but maintain he was framed. a warning this morning from campus police at uc berkeley. a teenage girl robbed at knifepoint over the weekend. police say the 15-year-old was just walking near the valley life scenes building at 9:30 on saturday night when a man approached her with a knife. that teen was not hurt thankfully during that robbery. rash of car break-ins and stolen cars hitting san jose. one local couple says they have fallen victim several times. several car windows were smashed and both cars and motorcycles stolen. will it happened in a packing

that is because today is the grand opening of the better health pharmacy which really is a celebration of what has been a successful county program for a eight years. back in 2008, department of hub health put together a program to put unused drugs, unexpired drugs in to the hands of people who could not otherwise afford their prescription to the tune of nearly 9,000 prescriptions in that time, $400,000 in savings. the county accepts unused unopened and unexpired meds from state regulated facilities. these are facilities that are licensed owners, pre-screened, as well. anyone who cannot afford a prescription can bring that subscription here and then without insurance or even folks who have insurance but can't food the co-pay, they can get them filled for free. if the meds are in stock, the prescription is filled and there are hundreds of medicine for everything from things line asthma to heart conditions. again, no controlled substances

are on. this morning the search for a lawyer linked to a high profile case. steven mitchell was hired by sonoma county to represent them in a civil suit filed by the family of andy lopez, who was shot and killed by a sheriff deputy who mistook his replica rifle for a real one. investigators say mitchell's wife reported him missing from their home over the weekend. they found mitchell's car parked in bodega bay sunday morning, but no sign of him. deputies do not suspect foul play. a break in the case now, the investigation into the double murder at san francisco's twin peaks took police to richmond and it ended with an arrest. >> stephanie chuang live in san francisco right now. you have a name to go with that arrest? >> reporter: absolutely. richard contreras, 27 years old out of san pablo arrested and booked on two charges of murder

and one of attempted murder as well as carjacking, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and firearm possession by a felon. and this all stemming from a twin peaks shooting early sunday morning that killed two young men. flowers an cap dells really the only reminder of what happened here and that was just after 2:00 sunday morning. police made the arrest about 25, 30 miles away in richmond around 6:45 last night after a traffic stop at mcbryde avenue and hassen street. investigators had pinpointed a dark gray suv they believe contreras had car jacked after the shooting. s.w.a.t. officers helped in the search of a home. so far police have not recovered the gun used in the double homicide that left an 18-year-old man fighting for his life and killed a 19-year-old and 21 jld. -year-old. and his family told us that he was a landscaper and he was just hanging on the with his friends when he was shot and killed. police have said that this was

not a random shooting, but we still don't have a motive. a lot of grief of course, friends raising money a go fund me page. the man accused of killing an east bay police officer could be making his first court appearance. investigators say robert veg today shot and killed vegas at his home last week. officer vegas was the grandfather of the suspect's son. investigators still trying to figure out what led up to that shooting. vegas was a 15-year-old veteran of the richmond department. he will be honored at a public memorial service in richmond this friday. from celebration to panic, a search under way to find a father who disappeared after his daughter's wedding. the search is expected to continue today in the walnut grove area near the border.

>> well, i won't take credit. but it will be another noois ic. this is the last one where we'll have above average temperatures and maybe even setting new records again today. as we take a live look at san jose, we start out with mostly clear skies. despite it saying we will see rain, we will not. and we'll start to see the showers moving in tomorrow. a look at now all of the microclimates in the south bay. it's 52 degrees in san francisco up to 54. east bay, we see it's now 45 degrees in dublin. and brentwood, 7. lafayette, 44. so we have some cool spots. as we take it hour by hour in san francisco, we're in the mid-60s. and up to 70 degrees by lunchtime. it will be another beautiful day, a lot of sunshine, 74 degrees at 3:00.

at at&t park. temperatures drop back in today with clouds moving in. a look at the futurecast, and it does show the clouds starting to roll in later on tonight and the winds picking up, too. it will start to feel a little breezy as the winds rush in toward this approaching cold front and that front will also bring in scattered showers well ahead of that scattered rain throughout the evening tomg aor. most of us may not see the rain until the afternoon. at least for now it does look dry for the start of the day and potential of about quarter to half an inch of rain with that system. we'll be talking more about that. look over toward the tri-valley, a lot more traffic than we saw yesterday. but we're looking toward west 580, i'm pleased with this so far. it's slow out of the altamont toward north 1st where there is a crash in the center divide. a lot of people heading toward

targeting extremists linked to isis. authorities are v. conducted a series of rains in the suburbs around the capital. 10 people are now detained. agents blelieve they have new leads on people who recently went to syria. coast guard hearings will seek answers about why the el faro sank in september killing all 33 crew members on board. the hearings in jacksonville are expected to focus on the events that led up to the sinking as well as search and rescue efforts. a number of crew members families have filed lawsuits against the ship's owners. cliven bundy scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges from an armed confrontation in 2014 that forced federal officials to release cattle near his ranch. he's the first to face charges

in what some advocates have hailed a victory in the fight to turn over federal land to state control. recently bundy's son staged a month long armed sit-in on federal land in orlg organize for the exact same issue. ammon bundy now faces his own federal charges. opening statement today for a suspect accused of being a serial killer. today marks the start of the long awaited grim sleeper trial. the 63-year-old pleaded not guilty to killing nine women and 15-year-old girl over two decades. in each case, the victim's beds were found in alley ways and garbage bins. thrts arrested franklin in 2010. the trial is expected to last up to four months. federal mental health experts arrive in palo alto later today to help investigate that city's teen suicide problem. ten teens have taken their lives in the past six years. almost all the suicides involve the city's train tracks.

today a team from the centers for disease control and prevention will meet with bay area leaders and doctors to examine the increase in suicides. they will also be holding meetings with students and parts parents to help identify signs of a child in crisis. >> this is all on our request. cdc is not coming here to research for them. they're here to serve us pl. >> cal train recently removed vegetation and installed infrared cameras. researchers will look at whether the changes are actually working. it is 5:59. an 80s pop music sensation died yesterday in the east bay hospital after a long illness. >> denise matthews went by the name vanity and was part of a girl group vanity six. it was formed by prince. the group's big hit nasty girl.
