let's check in with kari hall with a look at your weekend forecast. good morning. >> good morning. starting out with cool temperatures and mostly clear skies and we will have changes as we go through the day especially with the north bay with scattered showers moving through. you can see the closer of rain well to the north and sizzling out as it moves farther to the south. we'll be talking about that. now it's 45 degrees in the it north bay and 50 in san francisco and the east bay. we're looking at highs this afternoon in the low 60s, pretty much like yesterday with some showers possible by the middle of the day. i'll talk about that and a look ahead to the weekend. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's see what's happening on the roadways now with mike. >> right now, kari, as you would hope for, light volume of traffic and even lighter traffic for the morning commute than we have all week. 880 moves very well up past high street and we'll track anything that builds and drier roads and the map will show you nothing going on. a little slowing and a construction zone east 24 just

"today in the bay" kris sanchez on the phone right now with our foreign desk and bring us a live update in about 30 minutes. also happening today a somber day for two different communities. thousands will gather for a memorial service for the richmond police officer recently killed in vallejo. >> bob redell live at the richmond auditorium. officer gus vegas touched so many lives. >> he did, laura and sam. not only as an officer with the richmond police department for 15 years. officer gus vegas was also very heavily involved in the lives of foster children. he was actually fostering a child at the time of his death

last week. officer vegas was shot and killed last thursday while off duty inside his home in vallejo. he heard a commotion inside his daughter's room when he opened the door. police say vega killed officer vegas. police arrested the suspect shortly therefore and the grandson was safe and take nn to custody at the time. from 9:00 this morning they will escort his body to the richmond auditorium and head west on 780 to westbound 80 into richmond. this is just a heads up if you plan driving in the area, could be minor traffic delays between 9:00 and 9:45. the memorial itself at 10:00 this morning here at the richmond auditorium.

that service is oepen to the public. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> we'll stay on top of the story throughout the day. our coverage will continue both on air and online. just head to nbcbayarea.com for the very latest. a possible break in the case of police investigating a sexual assault near the uc berkeley campus. berkeley police released this video of a man who could be linked to three assaults in the last week. they say his targets are asian women. first assault happened on february 11th at 9:00 at night. less than a week later a suspect grabbed at a woman. just 20 minutes later a third victim was attacked. many students are on alert after hearing about these incidents. they're now thinking about how to defend themselves. >> freaked me out a little bit. but it it also sent me to a place where i'm not sure if i can do anything about it like

besides make sure i don't stay out late at night. i have to go out, i have to go study. just a scare for me. >> officer os are working to see if the suspect is connected to a fourth incident that happened on campus back in january. 5:35 right now. did we mention this? friday morning. going into the weekend. >> which one of those is more favorable. kari, we saw the fact still some sprinkling of rain before we get to our weekend. >> some showers in the north bay as we go through the day. starting to see some of the showers well to the north of us and it it will take its time before it it starts to work its way to the south. we'll approach the next couple of hours. let's take it hour by hour as we do start to see some of the spotty, light rain by 6:00 in the morning around santa rosa and point reyes and heavy downpours moving through napa and approaching san francisco and we'll see that kind of sizzling out and may not even make it it into the south bay as

exclusive. centers of disease control looking at the tragedies of teen suicide. >> spent $700,000 over the past four years on security guards to protect teenagers. this morning, senior investigative reporter vicky nguyen uncovered. >> struggled since 2009 to deal with teens taking their own lives. their efforts to deal with the tragedy include track watch. the program where the city hired security guards to patrol the tracks. we have seen criminal records and arrest warrants some of the guards had criminal histories, including drug possession and theft and that some continue to commit crimes while on the job. police even arrested one guard accused of burglarizing multiple homes in palo alto during his shift. today leaders declined to be interviewed saying "they had no knowledge of the criminal background." the city has hired a new company

bruno mountain, a nice start to the day, it is cool, too. behind that cold front that moved through and taking a look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. we will have koppel raindrops today especially later on this afternoon. taking a look at the satellite radar. you can see we have rain farther to the north and as it continues to work its way to the south, a lot of that rain will be drying up. oakland and san francisco and 44 degrees in concord and check out livermore now at 42 degrees. looking at the potential of rain today. maybe a quarter of an inch in napa and then a tenth of an inch in san francisco and then look at how it drops off as far as how much rain we can see as you head into the peninsula, as well as the south and east bay. maybe a couple of raindrops just barely enough to be measured today. as we take it hour by hour in berkeley, we will start out at 50 degrees this morning and partly cloudy skies into the day. we will have that chance of rain starting at noon and into early afternoon as temperatures reach into the lower 60s. well, most of oous will see

upper and lower 60s and pleasanton is at 59 degrees for a high this afternoon. this first system moves on through with a cold front that will bring us a shot of some slightly cooler temperatures and it does warm up for the weekend. but here we go with another front that will be weakening and lifting to the north, once again. so, it it looks like after this we may have a couple of days of dry weather for this weekend. we will only see those highs reaching into the low to mid-60s for tomorrow. and then sunday a touch warmer, especially in the south bay where we make it it up to 70 degrees. take another look at the forecast coming up. let's see what's happening on the roadways now with mike. >> very early on a friday and they're not causing any real slowing. that's good stuff. i want to take you over since things are so calm over to the tri-valley. the express lanes opening eastbound and just getting away from the dublin interchange and over towards tracy. for the morning commute, get

weather tomorrow. couple scattered showers, though, today especially for the north bay and approaching san francisco. as we take it hour by hour, we do need the umbrella in the north bay in some spots by 6:00 and then there will be a line of some heavy rain moving through. 1:00 this afternoon approaching napa and then starting to weaken as it approaches san francisco and parts of the east bay and may not make it into the south bay, but we'll see if we'll get a little measurable rain as we go into tonight in san jose. taking it it hour by hour in san francisco. we'll only see the highs today reaching into the upper 50s with that chance of rain starting right around noon. let's see what's happening on the roadways now with mike. >> kari, typical of this time of morning, especially on a friday. very light, very easy. i want to zoom in to a new incident on the chp report right around olympic boulevard right before the 24 interchange. reports of a crash there. sounds like all lanes should be clear in just a couple seconds and i'll track that with a minor amount of traffic.

meanwhile, the golden gate bridge we just missed the zipper truck. there it is right there mid-span and moving that center divide and getting ready for that morning commute. back to you. palo alto police trying to figure out if the burglary suspect they have in custody is responsible for other burglary crimes in the area. they arrested daniel williams yesterday. they say they caught him after a 90-minute chase hiding under a mobile home in neighboring east palo alto. it came after someone spotted him breaking into a home on edgewood drive yesterday morning and called police. he's facing charges of residential burglaries and resisting arrest. a discussion over condo security fences. homeowners held an association meeting last night and explained to police and one city official why they need the fences. 570-year-old man said he was attacked earlier this months by three girls right outside of his condo. >> pulled me down to the ground and i hit with my face here. i hit the ground and was

bleeding. cannot allow to protect ourselves, the police is understaffed. what we have to do. >> but city leaders have a different take on this issue. they believe that private streets should be used for public recreational purposes only. the idea is part of what is called san jose invasion 2040 adopted back in 2011. residents who live in the south san jose condo complex want to reverse that moratorium. an unusual rescue for a petaluma control officer. >> you have to bring those clippers for your nose. a skunk with his head stuck in a peanut butter smell. these are pictures from the put lima animal services facebook page. the officer says he wanted to keep a safe distance so he wouldn't alarm the skunk and its stink bomb. he quietly approached the situation and managed to pluck off the jar with no damage done. >> really? that's pretty amazing. >> very difficult operation.
