learning about a killing spree in michigan as the suspect heads to court. "today in the bay" starts right now. good morning to you, thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> clear to start off your monday but ends amazingly. let's keep that streak going. >> we need some rain, too. unfortunately, we're not seeing a lot of that. temperatures are heating up, but enjoy this while we start out with some chilly temperatures this morning. look at these high temperatures this afternoon. 72 deit grgrees in the south ba the peninsula and east bay up to 71 degrees and in san francisco up to 68 degrees. very warm this afternoon and a lot of sunshine. we'll detail that and talk about our next chance of rain coming up but you may be making it through the trivalley a little bit faster. here's details from mike. >> we're looking over here towards the express lane. we have an additional lane and

up until a couple seconds ago, that was allowed for everybody. but now you have to pay your toll if you want to use that lane. we'll watch for the morning. look at your map talking about west 580 coming out of the alta altamont and express lane open this morning. you have to pay if you're not koor pooling. we'll track that and see how it plays out for the morning commute. the rest of your bay very easy, not really any major incidents. back to you guys. now to this developing story a man shot dead in the middle of the day in san francisco and the search is on right now for the gunman. >> this crime happened at the mcdonald's on golden gate avenue and fill more street right across from a police station there. bob redell live with what we know about the suspect. bob, what do we know? >> unfortunately, sam and laura, not much. young man in dedaark clothing i the only description. what is frightening about this

crime the time and location took place right there in that mcdonald's parking lot. this is in the middle of the day. there is the mcdonald's and right over here is the northern district for the san francisco police department. this happened just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. a driver and passenger in a white dodge sedan. they were trying to leave the mcdonald's parking lot when the suspect walked up to the right side of the car and looked inside and fired several shots into the passenger. >> if the victim's vehicle wanted to leave, they couldn't because they couldn't go forward and they couldn't go back. traffic had backed up and the car was a sitting duck, if someone wanted to take a shot at someone inside the car. >> the passenger who was in that white sedan managed to fall out of the car, collapse. was pronounced dead later at the hospital. the driver was not hurt and according to police is cooperating with their

investigation. the shooter escaped through the parking lot and got into a car and drove off. police are not sure if this crime was random or if the victim was targeted. they do have witnesses who they have been speaking with and also checking nearby surveillance cameras. there is one right there inside the mcdonald's parking lot and also one here inside the northern district police station. >> bob, thank you. another developing story now. the search has come to an end for a south bay mother who was missing for a week. police found the body of 22-year-old stacy aguilar. they found her body in hayward on saturday, but they have not specified exactly where. they're calling the situation a homicide. aguilar from san jose was last seen leaving a friend's birthday party in hayward eight days ago. police have not made any arrests in this case. >> our investigation has led us to believe that the homicide occurred here in hayward. >> witnesses say that aguilar

left the party with her boyfriend. her stepfather told us that police questioned that boyfriend and then let him go. her stepfather said someone has been using stacey's credit cards since she disappeared. police will hold a news conferen conference. a deadly car crash yesterday in vallejo. a second victim has now died from her injuries. it happened in a park lot on sacramento street. police say the 72-year-old driver could not make a turn and crash under to a cement wall. the passenger died at the scene and the driver later died at a hospital. investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role. pretty scary moment for people who live in an apartment complex on the peninsula after a truck drove through a wall. this is a picture of the aftermath. a man accidentally backed up his ford f-150 truck into the wall of this unit. it happened on the complex in belmont. the man told officers that his foot got stuck on the gas pedal.

luckily no one was home at the time and the driver of the truck was not hurt. >> could have been a lot worse than that. 5:04 right now. police in daly city looking for a man who exposed himself to three teenage girls. this is the man police are looking for. shoulder length brown hair. that photo captured on the surveillance camera of a walgreens on mission street. saturday at 1:30 in the afternoon the man exposed himself to those teens. police are investigating a mugging in the parking lot at a popular mall in pleasanton. according to "contra costa time" approached several teenagers walking outside stoneridge mall. one man got out and approached the 17-year-old girl and then took her purse. police say she struggled with the thief and then punched her before the men took off. lifting you up now on your monday morning at 5:05. those temperatures are staying about where they've been here,

kari. good morning. >> good morning. it is cool as we get the day started and get this workweek under way. it is now 46 degrees in the south bay and 37 in the north bay. the closer look at san francisco, we have some upper 40s and right at about 50 degrees and looking at 68 degrees today in the financial district. half moon bay 73 deit gree degrw 70s and for most of us across the bay area, except for livermore, you're up to 68 degrees. we continue to see our temperatures climb as we go through the week. i'll detail that coming up in less than ten minutes. >> kari, no big incidents on the roadway. we have a big deal. looking at 88 o0 past the coliseum and traffic flows well on the nimitz and we'll show you that section on the map, as well. speed sensors tell the tale there and coming out of the east bay, as well. highway 4 moves very well through antioch and no problems either. south bay just to reassure folks

that is the case. over here the only real slowing we see other than the green colors is the red and the yellow coming out of the altamont pass coming in towards livermore. i'll let you guys handle the good news. back to you. warning people not to get tickets. well, happening now, the new westbound 580 express lanes are open in the tri-valley area. here's a live look from our camera in dublin. the two eastbound lanes opened on friday. the lanes are free to use for carpoolers, clean air vehicles, buss and motorcyclists. however, solo drivers have to pay to use those lanes between the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and that is monday through friday. 5:07 right now. after a long fight, bill cosby's wife will take the stand. details we could learn in court later this morning. new twists this morning in the fbi case. >> i'm kris sanchez in the control room where we are watching the developments as a suspect suspected in a shooting spree heads to court in michigan.

a developing story now. a series of explosions in and near a suburb in damascus are reported to have killed 130 people in syria. isis claimed responsibility for two of the bombings near damascus. the blast took place as john kerry announced a provisional agreement on a cease-fire reached with russia on syria.

world leaders pushing for a halt in that country's nearly five-year-long civil war. happening today at 5:11. the demand police say is responsible for a string of killings in michigan over the weekend. the first time since jason dalton went on that shooting rampage. six people were killed, including a teenage girl and a dprup of women heading home after seeing a play. many of the victims it appeared to be an ordinary weekend until those shots rang out. >> kris sanchez tracking the latest developments for us. police say the violence appears to be random. >> it itappears to be random ana neighbor reports some disturbing behavior with a gun before all of this started to happen. 45-year-old jason dalton will be in court today to face more than a dozen charges, including six charges of murder. a neighbor tells the "new york times" that dalton was nice but

that he would also sometimes fire a gun in the air outside the door of his home. we haven't determined if that is the gun he allegedly used to gun down people in three different locations where a mother of three was shot while she was protecting her children. she will survive. just after 10:00 that same night a father and son were shot at a auto dealership where they were shopping for a new car. 16 minutes later four women were shot as they sat in their car outside a restaurant. they did not survive. now, police have confirmed that dalton was an uber driver. one passenger who sat right next to dalton that night told investigators that a jason picked him up for a $5 fare in kalamazoo he didn't know at that point it was the same uber driver. >> and i kind of jokingly said to the driver, you know, you're not the shooter, are you? and he gave me some sort of a no

response and shook his head or he said no and i said, are you sure? >> now, we are horrified and heartbroken at the senseless violence is the statement from uber. it continues on. we have reached out to police to help with their investigation in any way that we can. that is joe sullivan, the head of security for uber. now, dalton is due in court this morning which will do very little to answer questions for the people who lost loved ones in this massacre. he is a married father of two. people just don't understand why this might have happened. >> thank you very much. it it is 5:13 right now. the wife of comedian bill cosby is scheduled to. cosby is accused of defamation by a group of women who claim he sexually assaulted them decades ago. cosby's attorneys late yesterday lost their bid to post-pone the

deposition from camille cosby. for years she worked as cosby's business manager. while conversations between a husband and wife are protected by law, business conversations are not. >> this is a thicket. there is no way to predict what she has to answer and what she doesn't because everything she's going to talk about is both marital and business. >> camille cosby is scheduled to provide her deposition in a massachusetts hotel room. it is believed to be her first deposition since sexual allegations against her husband became public knowledge. family members of those lost in the san bernardino shooting are to crack open the shooter's iphone. >> scott mcgrew, some questions as to how that data became locked in the first place. >> remember the phone in the center of all this controversy was owned by the county, not the terrorist. either the county or the fbi appeared to have changed the password for the icloud account

linked to that phone right after the shooting. that's totally understandable. we did not know at the time if farook had conspirators other than his wife who might have wiped the phone remotely using i icloud. but in the process set up the problem they're trying to solve now. if they hadn't changed the iphone password, they could have the phone's data when it it it automat backed itself up. if you're an iphone user you're probably following right along. debating it requires everybody involved who wants to debate understand both the technical side and the state. congress would like to talk to apple ceo tim cook about security. both state security and the state subcommittee has invited cook to testify in this letter. it's not a subpoena, but it's an invitation. they have to tell them yes or no by wednesday. cook no stranger to testifier

peninsula and san francisco also 48 degrees. grab a jacket before you head out. we're at 44 degrees as we get a closer look at the south bay. now it's 44 in santa theresa and morgan hill 43 degrees and 45 now in campbell. let's take it it hour by hour in livermore with all of this sunshine. we those temperatures going from the low 40s to start out the day into the upper 60s this afternoon. so, mostly sunny skies and a light wind all throughout the day. we will continue to have a drying trend as we see high pressure building just through the east of us. it's fighting back any of those cold fronts that could be moving in. there will be several moving in from the pacific this week and the rain just dries up as it approaches the coast. we'll see that over and over again. the next chance of rain on sunday looks like high pressure weakening and maybe get showers in here. so, into the next three days. after today we're looking at some warming temperatures close to 80 degrees in the south bay on thursday. we could be talking about record

highs, once again, because we're supposed to be in the low to mid-60s this time of year and you can see we are well beyond that. into the weekend, we're looking at slightly cooler temperatures in some spots. san francisco 66 degrees and 65 degrees on saturday as you make those plans. we may have some rain on sunday. let's see what's happening in fremont with mike. >> kari, first of all assure folks that freeways look really good as far as speed sensors go. build out of the altamont and the possible shift you might see this morning. some folks getting the benefit and some folks not. over here in fremont, right around peralta somewhere where they have the weekly farmers market an overnight crash there and still police activity. there will be traffic control. peralta technically highway 84 through the area. i want to give that a shot out. dumbarton bridge is clear. the other side of the bridge at palo alto.

stabbed two men early saturday morning. it it happened outside the elegant pub on south white road in the evergreen section of san jose. still an active police investigation. they're looking for a motive. they're asking anyone with information to come forward. at 5:33 this morning. to this developing story. a brazen shooting in san francisco. a man shot to death in the middle of the day right across the street from a police department. >> laura, this happened at the mcdonald's on golden gate avenue and fill more street. bob redell joining us live in san francisco with what we know about the suspect at this point, bob. details kind of thin. >> well, the description is vague, sam and laura. a young man dark clothing. that's all sfpd has put out on this so far. one factor that makes this crime so unnerving is location. right here this is the northern district police station for sfpd and right across the street, that is a mcdonald's. that is where the shooting took place. just across the street from law enforcement. it was around 2:45 yesterday

afternoon when the driver and a passenger in that white dodge sedan you should be seeing on your tv. they were trying to exit the parking lot on to fill momore b they were stuck, sitting ducks, according to police. the suspect walked up to the right side of the car and looked inside and fired several shots. >> i heard pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. i looked back and i just ran thing lot and a i just dove out of the way. >> the passenger in that white sedan was hit several times. was able to crawl out of the car died later at the hospital. the driver was not hurt and according to police, he's cooperating with the investigation. the shooter escaped and ran through the parking lot and then hopped into a car and drove off. police are not sure if this was a random crime or if the victim was targeted. as we mentioned before, they're speaking with witnesses and also

checking surveillance cameras. there is at least one here at the mcdonald's and they might have captured anything. reporting live here in san francisco, bob redell, "today in the it bay." >> thank you so much. a proposed change to emergency services on the peninsula sparking a lot of pushback. daly city will meet tonight to discuss dispatching the city. the deal would save about $1 million a year, it is drawing anger from police officer os, dispatchers and their unions. they claim the money saved would be far less than that and that public safety would be compromised. well, a mountain lion back in its natural habitat this morning after it it was spotted near downtown santa cruz. here is a picture of the young female after wildlife game wardens tranquilized her. the department of fish and wildlife also posted a video of the big cat being released back into the wild. the cat was spotted in a foothill neighborhood basically

chronicle." earlier this month a driver wassing through the tunnel when a chunk of concrete came crashing down about the size of a tire. the driver wasn't hurt only the car's tire was bent. it it was an isolated incident. now to an investigative unit exclusive. their job is to help protect human health and the environment, but nearly 100 bay area epa workers say the building where they work is making them sick. union leaders representing all of the region's nine epa workers in san francisco reached out to the investigative unit for help. they say the air quality is so bad some workers have to leave their shifts after just an hour. >> it it just seems crazy to us that someone would be risking their health by coming in to the office to work on cleaning up the environment else where. >> the man in charge agrees, but says the epa is not to blame. >> i'm at my wit's end. we pushed every avenue from

>> scott mcgrew how many cars are out there on the road. >> quarter billion. we're talking about one in every three cars driving down the highway that is the car in front of you and the car in back of you that may have an unsafe airbag made by takata. we're talking about a potential recall 18 times as big. we're still waiting to see that recall will take place. reuters say the u.s. regulators are thinking about it. the airbags in question have two problems. number one, the explosive they use can become unstable when it gets damp. something that happens in humid climates and that sets off the airbag random. the way it is manufactured increases it will drive small metal pieces, shrapnel into the driver. in one of the first cases of an exploding airbag police thought that the driver had been shot. wall street had the best week of the year last week.

today and the next several days as high pressure sits just off to the east of us. it's also fighting back any cold front that looked to be approaching the coast over the next few days. so no rain and our temperatures will be going up. in fact, there will be at least three cold fronts moving, approaching the this week, but we won't see them producing any rain or giving us cool temperatures because of that high pressure just kind of blocking everything from moving in. we are look at highs that will be topping out in the upper 70s by the middle to end of the week. 75 degrees in the peninsula and in san francisco, also looking at some lower 70s. 78 degrees in the east shore on thursday. and this weekend, temperatures start to come back down a little bit and we will have our next chance of rain not until sunday. so, until then, some very warm and some dry weather. let's see what's happening in the east bay now with mike. >> kari, we'll start all over the bay. south bay where we have this jam up now.

violence every one of them tells us that this level of violence created mental trauma living with this violence every day. experts compare it it to veterans returning home from war, except in one important aspect. it it is very different. we spent the last six months walking the streets of oakland and talking to victims and perpetrators of the gun violence there. mental health experts say they're now seeing evidence of post-traumatic stress among residents living in these communities. that's ptsd. we all know about it. the same thing that veterans suffer when they return home from war. one important difference, that people living in these neighborhoods often don't leave and often return to the very scene where they were shot or almost shot. experts say that could have a profound and deving impact on all the people who suffer from ptsd. see the entire report on this, just go to our web page,
