few spotty showers, especially for the north bay. we will continue to have temperatures will be a little bit cool. we will see the fog in the peninsula now as well as the north bay. watch out for patchy fog as you go out this morning and looking at highs today up to 70 degrees in the south bay. we will have a chance of showers in san francisco, as well as the north bay. i'll detail that and what to expect this weekend, but let's get a look at what's happening on the bay bridge now with mike. >> we have the metering lights on. that's not a surprise over at the bay bridge. friday folks were hoping that wouldn't be on and the backup there. 880 past the coliseum, i did catch with the live camera a car that pulled over to the shoelder and then left the scene shortly therefore. no slowing that is where the incident was for hp. slowing south of there as you travel down through union city with the nimitz freeway. over here the dublin interchange is not the issue. but you see from our speed sensors, it may actually be further south. in towards sunol and getting over the hill by fremont because

of the slower pattern there and accident in the middle of the roadway for south 680. south of there, the recovery continues for northbound 101. a crash over at oakland road does look like it is over in the shoulder and a slower drive from 680 up to that scene. the rest of the south looks really good. happening today in court and facing murder charges. the man police say killed his girlfriend, a young mother from san jose set to make his first appearance in the hayward courtroom. >> kris sanchez live in hayward with new information about this suspect. kris? >> good morning to you, laura. we know now that esmid pedraza was in this country illegally and they were in the process of deporting him when he allegedly killed his girlfriend. he is due in court today as you said to be formally charged with the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old stacey aguilar whose body was found last saturday. she had been shot several times. aguilar and pedraza were seen

leaving a party the weekend before. her mother told our partners that she believes pedraza beat her. we confirm with i.c.e. officials before he was taken into custody on february 16th that he was to be deported back to mexico for a dui charge. now, i.c.e. bput a formal requet into alameda county so that he could be turned over to i.c.e. for imdwramigration action. we found that alameda county will only notify i.c.e. before releasing suspects if they have serious gang convictions or terrorist affiliations. we don't know if that is the case with esmid pedraza who is due at court at 2:00 this afternoon to answer to those charge sdmrz thank you very much, kris. 16-year-old boy is in the hospital this morning after he was shot in west san jose. happened just before 7:00 last

night not far from 280 and police say three suspects took off the screen scene, possibly getting into a red car. the teenage victim is expected to be okay. no word yet on a motive. wanted for sexual assault and attempted burglarly. santa clara police are looking for a man who may be targeting women in the same neighborhood. all of this coming after two terrifying incidents happened in just two weeks at apartments on hope drive in santa clara. it's not too far from the river mark plaza. officers released this sketch of the suspect described as a 30-year-old balding man. a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in the bella vista apartments back on february 13th. a week later, another woman said that she scared off an intruder at her home. police hope that people can also identify the suby his voice. >> now, when we get called, we want to know what they look like and if they said anything to

you. >> police believe that both incidents are connected. in the meantime, they're stepping up their paroles around the area. a campus-wide warning is going out to students at cal this morning after four women claim they were drugged at two separate fraternity houses over the weekend. >> stephanie chuang joining us live from berkeley this morning. steph, not just the reported druggings but a sexual assault reported at one of those parties. >> that's right, sam and laura. now berkeley police are investigating and the two investigations are focused here on piedmont avenue, which is also known as fraternity row. one of them happening at the fraternity house over my shoulder where two female students said they were at a party when they were drugged. if you look down the street on the corner the fiji fraternity house and two other female students reported they were drugged at a party there the same night on the 19th. it is unclear if it was one of those two women or somebody else but a person reported to university police that a sexual assault also happened in one of

those rooms between 12:00 and 12:45 in the morning. by the way, this is a fraternity not officially sanctioned by cal. other reported druggings at a fraternity this school year. a campus police alert from october 29th warning that one or more people may have been drugged at an unnamed fraternity. at the time police said they had little to investigate unless a victim came forward. for a bigger picture, we also have recent crime data from the university that shows a big uptake in forcible sex offenses at off-campus sites and seven in 012 and that jumped to 17 the next year. also a new category of report crime for 2014p this morning we found there were 15 reported rapes on campus in 2014. 13 of them in student housing and 14 reported rapes off campus. now, cal has said that it'sed resources to helping students with reporting sexual assaults and university police also expressing, you know what, these are sensitive in nature and reporting will remain

marina district at 59 degrees and in petaluma and 66 in oakland today and dublin looking at 68 degrees. so, as we go into the weekend, it stays like this, but we'll get more sun. i'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, situation in the north bay. >> first of all, san rafael, this doesn't stink just shows a slower drive that is developing as you approach north san pedro road. north bay now. north of there as you're coming past the novato. someone called in and said a truck driving south there is spilling sewage out of the back of the truck. i don't know how they know it's sewage forsu sure. avoid the area. meanwhile, the rest of the bay, a pretty light commute. the toll bridge toll plaza. the crash southbound 680 coming down through the sunol area somewhere between 84 and i say probably because the report is at highway 84 but all the slowing is just south of there. we see general slowing starting

gas prices on the rise this weekend prices could jump by 30 cents a gallon. >> bob redell with the reason behind the looming hike. good morning, bob. >> we're still a little a was off. maybe three to four weeks after a conversation we just had with a patretroleum analyst and the n reason there's going to be a jump at the pump is that refineries will soon be switching to the summer blends of gasoline. each year refineries produce a different blend of fuel during the warmer months. a blend that evaporates slower in the east. but the summer blend is more

expensive than the winter blend which is why we could feel it in the water and fill it first with an expected jump of around 30 cents a gallon. here in northern california, we'll feel it towards the end of next month. >> it could be 15 to 30 cents. time will tell as we progress rest assured a bump up the pump for northern california. it's just a matter of time. >> so, in the meantime, we get to enjoy what us here in california considers to be relatively inexpensive gas. the latest numbers from aaa. the average prices of gas and you can san jose and oakland averaging around $2.30. san francisco they always pay more than us. they're at, when i say us here in the south bay, san francisco is at roughly $2.50 a gallon

versus about $2.66 a month ago. keep in mind, those are average prices. look here at san jose 76 and already approaching 2.60 mark. ware not at $3 a gallon which seems like the norm. but, who knows, they could be coming back. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell "today in the bay." >> one year ago it was $3.08. public comment turning into fiery debate a proposal for a new mosque in santa clara county drew a packed mosque. the south valley islamic community needs a place to worship and wants to build in san martin right along monterey highway. the mosque will serve 100 families but many people in the area are against it. >> the size of the project far exceeds anything we've ever had. >> they are not all going to be in the mosque all the time at

>> he was 10 of 15 from and that is just absurd. >> that's the talent. >> we are very joyful about the fact that we have the weekend right on the doorstep and nice weather and rain in the works. >> little bit of rain in the north bay for the most part later on this evening and take a look at this start to the day and an amazing sunrise, once again. a few more clouds this morning as we take a look over the bay bridge. temperature 53 degrees in san francisco. you still need a jacket as you head out. little bit cooler and not as warm as the past few days and south bay 51 degrees. a look now closer in the east bay and in dublin it's 48 degrees and 52 degrees in alamo and walnut creek at 50 degrees. north bay at 56 degrees. as we go hour by hour temperatures reaching into the mid-60s in palo alto. by 1:00 a mixture of sun and clouds and over the next seven

days that forecast up at the bottom of the screen, you can see, we'll bring it down a few more degrees and start to warm it up next week with a couple chances of rain. we will have scattered light rain today. here's a look at the timeline. we start to see the wet weather by 7:30 this evening. we're just expecting a mix of sun and clouds. later on tonight, we have a chance of some of that rain making it into san francisco and parts of the east bay and then it looks like it just dries up. before it makes it into the south bay. even though the system won't bring us much in the way of rain, it will bring in some higher waves. there is a high surf advisory and some long period swells and some sneaker waves, as well as rip currents we'll have to watch out for not only today, but this weekend. if you're taking advantage of one of the many vacation spots or just place to relax in sonoma, today we will have that, once again, slight chance of rain and temperatures in the mid-60s and upper 60s tomorrow and then on sunday we'll have a slight chance of rain, once again. monterey stays rain free.

high temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s. and in santa cruz, we're looking at 71 degrees today while saturday, 70 degrees and 68 degrees. a few more clouds on sunday. as we go into the next several days, it looks like we only have, once again, a chance of a hit or miss shower. spotty rain. again on sunday and then into next week. we will start out dry. temperatures warm up and we'll have a more significant chance of rain moving in next thursday and it looks like after that looking at some of the and looking forward to that. looking forward to what's happening on the roadways now. here's mike. >> bay bridge toll plaza looks all right. the bay bridge metering lights are on and noes as you approach out of the maze and east shore freeway and coming up out of oakland we're tracking this. a series of reports around the coliseum and some debris reported. haven't seen any traffic breaks but this activity may be aal distraction. i want to show you another issue, this is sunol and live camera showing you the jam up

and taillights lined up southbound. look at that, a few of the taillights move quickly. and they are car pooling and that jam up continues down and around and, indeed, the crash was south of highway 84 and around sheridan and slow you down towards fremont. look at the map, that crash is blocking one of the middle lanes right now. we're still trying to get the right size tow truck out there and backup through pleasanton and sunol and merging with highway 84. that will be the big issue for the tri-valley. very unpexected for friday which we expect to be light. even 101 northbound is starting to clear up after the earlier crash over on shoulder and now getting some activity moving that from the roadway at oakland road. >> thank you, mike. coming up next a south bay teacher behind bars accused of having sex with a student. but it's how parents found out that is raising eyebrows this morning. good morning, coming up on "today" what we're learning about the suspected gunman in

out of kansas is mning - where we are getting our a developing story out of kansas this morning where we're getting our first look at the gunman accused of killing three people and wounding 14 others before he was shot dead by police. police say cedric ford drove through two kansas towns yesterday and fired at people before continuing his rampage at his workplace. court records indicate that ford had a criminal background stretching back to 1996. an officer being hailed a hero this morning for saving many lives by going it alone shooting and killing the gunman. no word yet on ford's motive. accusations have a san jose teacher in jail. >> paolo reyes joining us live with the latest on this investigation. how did this come to light? >> good morning, sam and laura. that is the interesting question here. it turns out, it took a call

from concerned parent to find out already knew that one of their teachers was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student and zachary drew was booked into the main county jail yesterday. he is facing three counts of sexual intercourse with a minor and three counts of lewd and acts with a minor. the student is 17 years old they found out school administrators already knew of the situation and had completed their own internal investigation. a letter was sent to parents by the principal yesterday saying only that a teacher has been arrested for inappropriate activity with a student. that they are cooperating with police and that a third party investigator has been hired to look into the matter. but it's not clear how long drew had been looking at the school or what his exact isignment was. they have 300 students and we're waiting for the doors to open this morning to find out why there was a delay between the

mike has a heads up for those drivers going through sunol. >> bigger issues right here. south 680. look, it is jammed up for all but the hot lanes. they are carpooling or paying to get by. that is the one lane going through the area south through sunol and map from pleasanton past the merge and down past the sheridan report of a crash. hit and run crash and there is now a big rig, i believe, still in one of the lanes there causing all the slowing heading down towards fremont. that is a big problem. a lot of folks not happy about that. if you did see something, a lot of folks to report what they did see for that hit and run crash. if you want to avoid that, take 580 still over towards 880 and off the castro valley wide. that is a lot longer but a smoother flow of traffic. the rest of the bay veriant, though, guys. back to you.

status, in particular, sam and laura. he was in this country illegally and immigration customs and enforcement agents were already in the process of trying to have him deported back to mexico because of a previous dui charge. edmid pedraza will be in court charged with the death of his girlfriend. stacey aguilar's body was found in fremont and she had been shot several 250itimes. they were seen leaving a party the weekend forbefore and her mother told our partners at the telemundo station that she believed it was an abusive relationship. we confirmed with i.c.e. even before pedraza was taken into custody, i.c.e. was trying to send him back to mexico on that dui charge. now i.c.e. did put in a formal request to alameda county that if pederaza is released he is to be turned over to i.c.e. on

immigration action. we found that alameda county would only notify i.c.e. before releasing suspects if they have serious crime convictions or terrorist affiliations. quee don't know if that is the case with pedraza and that is the reason i.c.e. was not notified before. they will not notify in the case of civil cases. pedraza is due in court this at 2:00. we hope to gather more information between now and then. in hayward, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." investigators will continue digging for more body parts in the area of the dumbarton bridge. the torso found sunday night in the marsh lands near the dumbarton bridge belongs to shellie titchener. her husband, paul titchner committed suicide by jumping off the bay bridge tuesday night. now a small memorial outside the couple's brisbane home is growing. the countdown is on for a

homeless camp. those living in the rows of tents have until today to move. otherwise, as the city threatens in a notice earlier this week, police will move them forcibly and their belongings will be dumped. the city's homeless outreach team is encouraging those campers to come a new homeless facili facility. one promoted by mayor ed lee. less than half of those referred there have actually moved. >> they take all our stuff and put it into a container and they won't let us have access to our stuff. i mean, that's basically like being in jail. >> public health inspectors list several reasons that the encampment is a public nuisance. among them they cite garbage, needles and human waste. 6:37 right now. the dispute between apple and the fbi reaches another critical juncture today. today marks a deadline for apple to respond to the justice department order to unlock the iphone belonging to one of the san bernardino terrorists. apple will likely file a formal objection. if the federal order stands to

legal challenges, apple would be forced to create technology it does not have to remove the passcode lockout on the phone. experts believe the legal ramifications are huge. >> if they lose this, then you could argue that the government would always want a book door and they have to keep this into consideration in developing new hardware and software. >> during a hearing yesterday they accused of trampling on the first amendment rights. well, daylight savings time does not begin for another two weeks. what if you didn't even have to worry about it. one bay area lawmaker would like to get rid of this concept altogether. talk today about his proposal to end california's daylight savings time. he says it wreaks havoc on people's body clocks. a lot of you are thinking, tell me about it. and that elderly people have a particularly hard time. calls for california to remain on standard time over the course of the entire year. we'll see if it plays out in the

state level. >> you lose that hour, right? >> i believe that is the case. we definitely know definitive. >> kari hall. >> that is definitely right, kari. >> you fall back. >> you spring forward. you lose an hour. so, you know, you have to deal with that, but you do get more sunshine in the evening and as we see the sunrise this morning, we can see the fog rolling over the hills from timberren and across the bay. this is what it looks like inside that as you try to drive through it going across the golden gate bridge. low visibility in some spots and you'll have to deal with that along the immediate coast. inland we're looking at temperatures that will be cooler than the past few days and warming up to 72 degrees in roy. redwood city 61 degrees and 66 degrees in the financial district. scattered showers for later this evening for parts of the north bay and antioch up to 64 degrees and 68 today in dublin. i'll talk about the weekend and what to expect as we go into the next several days as far as our chances of rain. that's coming up a little bit

later. let's see how that fog or what's happening in sunol now as we check in with mike. >> the fog and low are a note for folks, but not as much as the big issue on the roads right now. you see some of that haze right here. southbound 680, clearly, thes are not moving except for that express lane. if you have fastrak you can go through the area. what's going on. look at your map, we have a crash. a crash involving a big rig. from what we understand, that has cleared from the roadway and a couple stalls in the area. i am not going to say this was a factor, but remember to fill up with gas because you never know when you're going to get stuck. if some folks were stuck in that traffic for the last half hour, they may run out of gas hoping to get it in fremont in the south. your long alternate west 580 through the castro valley wide. it is friday lighter commute and you could probably make that with a little bit of time advantage. meanwhile, approaching the bay bridge, we have no problems but we have the bay bridge metering

falling rock hit her in the head. this happened while she was battling yesterday's brush fire in malibu. that fire scorched about ten acres of land and it led to nearby evacuations, but no homes were damaged. advocates for the disabled on the peninsula accused taxi cab company of hiking up prices for people in wheelchairs. the center for independence of individuals with disabilities filed a discrimination suit against sarah yellow cab. the group claims it did test rides for those in wheelchairs and those who were not. fares were more than three times as high for the exact same ride. we spoke with an attorney for the company who says she hopes to meet with the plaintiff. >> my client is very upset and they would like nothing more than to resolve this. with the plaintiff. and renew their commitment to the disability community. >> the suit demands stop overcharging and establish a monitoring system to make sure

all customers are treated equally. a mu gistic mishap this morning. the search for a missing bald eagle continuing. zookeepers say sequoia away when they took her out for a flight demonstration on monday. they say she was in hot pursuit of a red tailed hawk. now, this is not the first time that she's done this, but it is the longest time that the bird has not returned. sequoia is partially paralyzed and missing part of a foot. the result of being shot out of the sky. where do you begin with this next story. how about a disgruntled unikornl. that led to a not so magical chase through the central valley. her inner mythical beast when she bolted during a photo shoot just outside of fresno on wen afternoon. it turned into an hour's long pursuit involving the chp as she darted in and out of traffic. where is the wizard when you need one. officers eventually had to call in their chopper tahelp find the

>> we're going to have a great weekend. we're going to have some cooler temperatures moving in and we are starting out with more clouds this morning as we getty for a very weak storm system to move in but giving us a beautiful sunrise. taking a look at the bridge toll plaza. we'll check in with mike to see what's happening in the south bay in a couple of minutes. as we take a look at san francisco, we see the low clouds moving in now and the seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. so, as you head out, we're in the low to mid-50s and still some 40s in parts of the north bay and highs today reaching the 60s in san francisco and a mix of sun and clouds and it will be much cooler than yesterday. we had some spots yesterday hitting the mid-70s. today it looks like it gets up to about 61 or 62 degrees. scattered light rain will start to move into the north bay but we're not seeing a wash out with this system and it will be late this evening before it starts to move to the north bay and fizzling out as it moves to the south. not expecting much rain here or the next couple of days, but this system is enough to churn

up some of those waves off shore and creating a high surf advisory with those swells up to 11 to 14 feet with long period swells and wale also have the risk of some rip currents, not only today, but tomorrow, as well. so, as you head out,tures will be in the mid up toer 6 ee eer and chance of showers moving through. once again, we won't see a more significant chance of rain until about next thursday, but looking a little bit farther down the line, we will start to most likely see a active weather system and a weather pattern as we go into march. it is looking better and hopefully we can add more rain to the tallies for this winter. let's check in now with mike to get an update on what's happening in the south bay. >> first, a quick look to show you there is traffic slowing northbound 101. this is your friday commute. let's look at your map and that is really the worst of it. that burst of traffic that hits 680 at 101 and 87 and just starting for 85. i want to take you to much more

dramatic slowing over here in the trivalley and 680 southbound which is jammed up towards sheridan. sheridan on friday we had a crash, we had a couple of stalls reported and a live look shows you why you don't have to use that 580 reroute over through castro valley. you can stick it out because we already see recovery over the last five minutes here and south of highway 84 and things are moving better and still very slow. tough it out. meanwhile, look at the bay bridge toll plaza and kari showed you that beautiful flow and nice flow of traffic getting there and you notice right there in the backup, flashing lights. i will check on that. earlier crash reported around the toll plaza. i don't see any lanes blocked but we'll see what is going on right there. back to you. >> mike, thank you very much. happening later today the largest container ship to ever dock in the u.s. is leaving oakland in just a few minutes. you'll remember "benjamin franklin" mega ship just totally flying along the bay and will be heading back to seattle before returning to asia. looks a lot faster with the time lapse, doesn't it?

suspected killer esmid pedraza and wants to be deported for a separate crime. this afternoon he will be in court to be charged with the murder of his girlfriend stacey aguilar. we confirm that i.c.e. was in the process of deporting him at the time of aguilar's death. we also know that i.c.e. has now filed a formal request to alameda county that if pedraza is released it be into their custody for immigration action. alameda sanctuary policy that they will only notify the feds if a suspect has serious ties convictions or terrorist association and we don't know if that is the case. again, in court, 2:00 this afternoon. in hayward, kris sanchez, "today contin in the bay." >> police are reporting sexual assaults and two druggings at a frat party. two female students said they were at a party friday night,

february 15th down the street on piedmont avenue better known as feemgy. two other female students say they were drugged at a party and also where a person is unclear if this is one of the two women reported to university police that a sexual assault happened in one of the rooms between 12:00 and 12:45 in the morning. there have been other reported druggings at a school year including campus police sending out a warning that people were drugged at an unnamed p pruternity. police are hoping more victims will step forward. live in berkeley, stephanie chuag "today in the bay." and i'm bob redell live in san jose. we just spoke with the senior trollium analyst which tells us the average gallon of gas here could go up from anywhere from 15 to 30 cents a gallon by the end of march. already happening in southern

california. the mainen is that refineries are switching to the summer blend of gasoline. something that is required by state law. it requires that they produce a different blend of fuel during the warmer months. a blend that evaporates slower in the heat. we could feel it in the walletple the prices from aaa, the average for us is still relatively inexpensive when it comes to san jose terms. $2.30 compare that to a month ago a 20 cent drop and san francisco which pays more is averaging $2.50. that is roughly 16 cents less than they were paying a month ago. compared to a year ago, it's not $3. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> regular bargain hunter. >> share the love. >> i did tweet out i paid $1.97 last week. >> i'm not even going to worry about that. >> electric car.
