big super tuesday winners are donald trump and hillary clinton. trump won arkansas, vermont, georgia, massachusetts, virginia tennessee and vermont. clinton also won seven taking massachusetts, arkansas, tennessee virginia, texas. and bernie sanders managed four victories including his home state of vermont. ted cruz won three states, home state of texas, oklahoma, and he alaska. marco rubio pulling out a victory in minnesota. >> meanwhile, a calmer and more measured version of donald trump is already looking ahead to hillary clinton and also house speaker paul ryan. >> this has been an amazing period of time. it's been amazing for me even from an educational standpoint. and, honestly, we've done something that almost nobody thought could be done. and i'm very proud of it. i want to leave you with this.

[ cheers and applause ] >> ted cruz surprised some political watchers by taking oklahoma. he had an impressive win in his home state of texas, as well as a late victory called in alaska. he pitched himself as the trump alternative. >> for the republicans that don't want to see donald as the nominee, i would welcome and encourage them. we have to come together and unify. the only way to beat donald trump is for us to stand together united. if donald trump is the nominee,

i think we lose the senate, lose to hillary, lose the supreme court for a generation and the bill of rights. it's my hope that as party we come together and say stop this madness. do not nominate a candidate who will drive the party off a cliff. >> cruz was able to pick up 171 delegates, rubio, 82 and the big winner, the donald, who won 210 delegates. that brings his total to 292. cruz is in second with 188. marco rubio has 98. now bernie sanders says he's not too worried about those numbers. >> you're going to see a lot of election results come in. let m remind you what the media forgets to tell you about. these are not -- this is not a general election. it's not winner take all. if you get 52%, 48%, you roughly end up with the same amount of delegates in a state. by the end of tonight, we are

going to win many hundreds of delegates. [ cheers and applause ] >> sanders picked up 295 delegates last night while clinton won 461, increasing her lead 979 to 382. after spending nearly a year in space, astronaut scott kelly is feeling the full gravity back here on earth. scott and his twin brother, former astronaut, mark, are helping scientists learn about the impact of space on the human body. now, while he was on the space station, scott observed 5,400 earth orbits and nearly 11,000 sunsets. we're expecting to hear all about that later today. president obama tried to hash things out with republicans

over the supreme court vacatinc. the meeting which lasted less than an hour and featured mitch mcconnell, democratic senator, patrick leahy and vice president joe biden. it was the first time leaders have met since justice antonin scalia died. republicans reiterated their stance they have no intention of considering an obama nomination. afterwards, the two senate leaders expressed their drastically different points of view. >> if the shoe was on the other foot, the democrats the majority would be confirming a republican president's nomination in the last year of his term? of course not. >> we just want them to fulfill their constitutional duty and do their job. and at this stage they decided not to do that. they're going to wait and see what president trump will do, i

guess, as far as a nomination. >> senator reed added after an impasse, they spend the rest of the time talking about basketball. hello, meteorologist bill karins. what do you have for us on this wednesday? >> change is in the air. you know they say march comes in like a lion? not yet. the trend over the last six weeks or so, a bunch of storms like this one here, the one up into the northwest. that's the storm pattern up into british columbia, avoiding much of california. here is what's going to change, though. this is what we're watching. this is an active subtropical jet stream. we expected it during a lot of the winter, moving across the pacific. it will provide us more additional moisture in the mountainous areas, areas that need more precipitation. that's in the cards for the next couple say five to ten-day period.

high pressure deflects all the rain to the north. that jet stream will move in. we watch it go through thursday, friday and saturday. here comes that southerly jet stream, additional moisture. rainfall totals, estimates over the next five day as loan are impressive. pink and orange in northern california, two to five inches of rain. and that is just the start. it's going to continue past five days. monterey, you should be dry. then this next storm system will be missing you to the north. a lot of people are excited. people are getting worried we missed out on the blockbuster california rain. it looks like march should be rewarding. >> they must be too excited about that. >> they love it. >> thanks so much. just ahead, we'll find out who the biggest climber on the forbes list of richest people

well, super tuesday certainly lived up to its name. for more on last night's results, let's go to tracie potts live in washington. how are you holding up? >> reporter: it turned out to be a very long night but an interesting one. for republicans, the voters in all but one state, vermont, they set record turnouts yesterday during super tuesday. and then we're also looking now at these delegate counts for hillary clinton, good. for bernie sanders, he has a way to go. rubio, not where he wanted to be. and cruz still has trump looking over his shoulder. >> we're going to go to florida. >> reporter: donald trump and hillary clinton.
