in these windy conditions as they prepare from previous storms. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we saw the red, which means we begin with the microclimate weather alert. a very slick golden gate bridge. the roads are wet all across the bay area as another round of wet weathering ready to make its way through. >> live team coverage this morning and we get right to meteorologist kari hall and the radar still very active this morning. >> still very active and we have the storm system that moved through over the weekend that brought anywhere from three to ten inches of rain and it still continues this morning, even though many of ous taking a break. we will start to see this activity ramping up, again, as that area of low pressure tracks across the bay area and also bring in the potential for some thunderstorms into this afternoon. for now, the roads are wet. we are cloudy skies and cool temperatures. right at about 50 degrees and heading into the low 60s today.

a few more thunderstorms will be possible later today, especially in the east bay and tri-valley. i'll talk more about that coming up and also some more mid-week rain that's in a few minutes. let's get an update on what is happening with the morning commute now. here's mike. >> starting with the commute in general. first, show you palo alto damp roadways and then the big look where the road weather index shows up as green highlighting on our map. damp roadways and that's a concern. some slowing in your typical patterns. we're going to move north of 92 and show you the bay bridge toll plaza with the backups there and also west 24. i think one lane might be blocked by a stalled vehicle just before you get out of the tunnel. keep that in mind if you're heading out of the left and in towards oakland. meanwhile, the rest of your bay looks pretty well. overnight rain left mild flooding in spots and, bob, you're at one of the off ramps that was closed off of 880. >> mike, speaking for the south

bay, i can say this is the worst we've seen of it. northbound 880 here at the alameda off ramp where you can see it's still shut down because of minor flooding in the last hour and half. decreased in size because of 50 yards behind you is where our cal trans crew with a pump trying to get this water out. northbound 880 to alameda still down. fortunately, this is not having much impact on the morning commute. if you look towards the right, you can see the headlights heading northbound and as kari has been saying, we had a really nice break in the weather here. the timing has been good for the morning commute because even though the roads are wet, we're just not getting the rain right now. at least not here in the south bay. this is from overnight a sig alert that was in effect. in san mateo county on highway 92. both lanes were shut down east of 35 because of a tree that was down. but that sig alert has since been left. if you are going to be heading out to work this morning, the good news here in the south bay, it's not raining. but those roads are wet and if

you see standing water like we have here at the alameda off ramp, you want to be careful. reporting live here in san jose. waves as high as 20 feet expected to slam an already crumbling coastline. >> damaged sea wall had raised worries heading into the weekend, steph. now the work to repair is about to begin. >> good morning, sam and kris. the hair band is on because the wind has been very active and crews making repairs to the damaged wall here are going to have to work in these very windy conditions. i talked to kari she said along the coast 40 miles per hour and higher gusts. we are here where the sea wall was damaged by the gusts and the city declared a state of emergency for that. plus, damages to the pacific and totaling $350,000. the weekend storms into the

morning protnemorn morning brought nearly two inches of rain. no signs of significant damage, but pacifica city leaders who say they're nervous say they're nervous because more stormy weather on the way. >> yes, we are. in fact, the strongest storm of the el nino for 2016. >> and, today, the city is set to begin putting up fencing around the apartments at 320 before demolition, i should say, is slated to start tomorrow. the empty apartments have been in danger of falling over the cliff because of coastal erosion and first becoming a problem in 2010. the demolition set to cost the city $200,000. money they hope to get reimbursed by the property owner. one building demolished and another one yellow tagged and there is a special meeting held by the city to determine what the next moves are set for march 23th. live here in pacifica, stephanie chuang. the sierra getting a double dose of snow this morning, as

well. you could see plenty of fresh powder blanketing the area. overnight, parts of interstate 80 were shut down completely because it was just too dangerous. the roadway is open, once again, but chains are required. keep track of the weather by downloading the nbc bay area app. there you can find the doppler radar. it's constantly updating so you know where the storm is and where it is headed next and where your window is to get outside. >> radar never quits. >> never quits. people up and down california dealing with the aftermath of this weekend's storms. the sacramento area, in particular, currently trying to clean up after those storms. northbound lanes on highway 70 outside of the town could be closed for the next several days because of flooding. kris, as you react, that looks like it is pretty deep. water is just sitting on the roadway with no where to go. spots not too far from flooding that claimed a life on saturday night. a woman drowned inside of her car after vehicle that she was in became trapped in flood

walters. very serious. >> don't drive through standing water and don't approach power lines that are down. berkeley firefighters have rescued a couple of people now from burning apartments just a few blocks away from the cal berkeley campus. >> one suffered some sort of fire-related injury and we don't know if burn or smoke inhalation. the fire started just before 7:00 last night at a large two-story building near mcgee avenue. one apartment unit is gutted and is severely damaged. it took more than an hour to get that fire under control. well, brazen smash and grab in the north bay. police are now looking for four suspects in the burglary of a petaluma gun store. you can see them in the surveillance video here. it was released by petaluma police that used the back end of a green honda 1990s accord to smash through the front of the window and then they make it inside. all of this happening at 7:20 saturday morning at the

independence armory a gun store there. the burglars got off with 18 semi automatic gloc handguns. they would have gotten an assault rifle. san rafael looking into tightening smoking rules in downtown and also in public places. the city council is going to take on that issue during a meeting today. right now, people can smoke while they're passing through the downtown area, but city leaders are hoping to put an end to that. city council is also going to consider regulating ecigarettes in public places. microclimate weather alert as we take a live look at the south and downtown san jose this morning. a beautiful start to the day. very dramatic clouds. the worst of the heavy rain slowly making its way out of the bay area, but we are not in the clear just yet. let's check the full timeline with kari hall. >> we will still have some rain as we go through the morning, even though many areas are taking a break, at least from the heaviest downpours.

the area of low pressure and this storm system wrapping up. it will be spinning more rain into the bay area for the next several hours. so looking at the timeline, this last blast of rain after a very soggy weekend may also bring in a few storms and windy and cooler later today and a couple of lingering storms also in parts of the east bay most likely. and then as we head into wednesday, the next round of rain moves in and it will stay breezy and looks like we could see some more storm systems after this. i'll detail what to expect the rest of the week and let's get an update on what is happening in the east bay now from mike. >> i'll reaffirm what you said first of all the glowy lights and wet roadways still damp and slick right now. kari said we're not done for the morning and keep that in mind as you get ready to head out for the morning. road weather index highlights green and slicker roadways and that's much of the east bay. the tri-valley shows the build for the dublin interchange and no surprises there or for 880 coming off of union city and hayward. a stalled vehicle still going

westbound 24. one lane blocked as you're exiting the caldecott tunnel. we're looking to the south bay where the northbound routes are moving well. little slowing for 101 and 87 and little flooding. that's 87 and highway 101. i want to point out the one that bob redell just showed us. santa clara university is just west of the freeway and that might be as an issue as folks try to exit there. and then coming back down southbound getting off, again, at the alameda. if you're heading over towards class or need an excuse, tell them that you heard about the flooding and you had to be safe. professors like that. anyway, we'll send it back to you guys. >> does that count as an excuse. >> better to get there alive, even if you get the tardy. new troubles for uber this morning. the fresh accusations the company is now facing surrounding sexual assault and its drivers. it may be rainy outside, but

==live pix== microweather alert tips this morning after a soggy weekend. not done with the rain just yet. rain will increase in coverage as we go low the morning commute. updates on that and what to expect in the forecast coming up in about five minutes. even if it's not raining where you are, we have the effects of the rain. look the wet roadway and you need the windshield wipers and need to watch that speed. see the folks getting off the ramp and that is a concern. slicker off ramps and talk about what closures are going on, as well. uber right now under the microscope, once again. this time for the reported number of cases of sexual assault against its drivers. in response to a buzz feed investigation, the company said that riders had reported five rapes and 170 sexual assaults but that investigation also says that uber employees had come forward with much higher numbers. numbers that were in the thousands. uber is also being accused of

passing along only some of those sexual assaults to police. many of the claims were not legitimate and when searching commrapts in its system the word rape could be a typo for the word rate. march may be rainy, but it is turning out to be very sunny on the stock market. >> scott mcgrew in like a lion. positive news for investors. >> dow now higher than it has been in two months. above 17,000. we had good news about the american economy and jobs on friday. the labor department said nearly a quarter million jobs were added the economy last month. unemployment stays below 5% at 4.9. now, the fed will take that into account as it meets march 15th, the jobs numbers. the federal market committee lifted rates essentially above zero at its january meeting. traders i talked to said despite the good jobs news another rate hike this month is extremely unlikely. the man credited with

choosing the at symbol as a way to write e-mail addresses passed away over the weekend. here we see ray tomlinson accepting an awart from the internet hall of fame. he chose at because one of the few symbols on the keyboard that at the time nobody was using. businesses show only a third of the businesses are able to read the chips on those new credit cards. they're way behind schedule. they are supposed to have readers by october of last year. stores have an extra incentive to hurry up. normally the banks take care of any false charges. but if there's a false charge on your card and it can be traced back to the corner store where they had you swipe, not use the chip. the bank will hold the store accountable and make the store pay you back. so, if you are some sort of small business, get on this. although, sam, you were pointing out the chip thing takes forever compared to the swipe. >> it is a small century. >> multiply that by five people

in line and it's ridiculous. >> people are giving you stink eye in line. quit taking so long. >> thank you. >> you bet. >> thank you very much. back to our top story and that microclimate weather alert looking live at the radar right now where can see the showers are moving through parts of the bay area. but the brunt of the storms through just a couple of hours ago. doesn't quite seem like it. >> yeah, we see as you said a lot of that green out there. let's take you outside. live look. slick golden gate bridge. a soggy san jose. tricky and dangerous conditions outside. if you're about to head out the door, we're not about to help, we're going to help right now. at 6:16, mike is watching the roads and kari is here and we saw the thickest activity over the weekend, but another round here this morning, kari. >> this one could bring in some thunderstorms as we go into the next several hours. we'll watch out for that possibility. as we take a live look, it's nice to have a break in between the rain and chance for people to get out there on the roads

and not have to deal with the windshield wipers up all the way up on high. now, as we go into the next several hours, we will still see this moving in. a look at the satellite and radar. we see that there is still some more activity over parts of the hills as you go over the peninsula and approaching the south bay and the seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. you'll be able to see how much more rain we'll get over the next several days. we still have this area of pressure still winding up and still off shore. so as that rotates in we may have more energy moving in and still quite a bit of rain. so, looking at the rain timeline, there's still some bright yellows and oronges here indicating some heavy rain, once again. the possibility of some thunderstorms, too. and then by 10:00, we see much of this covering the bay area and then starting to move off to the east. but we're still not in the clear. there will be a chance of some thunderstorms moving through the north bay and peninsula and possibly into the east bay before this all wraps up. the wind forecast shows that it will bey throughout the day, especially along the coast.

look at half moon bay at 5:00 this evening. wind speeds sustained at 40 miles an hour and may be some higher gusts. that's the reason why the high surf advisory does continue into the day tomorrow. then after this round of rain moves through, we'll start to have a little bit of a break in the forecast and then the next round move in late tomorrow evening and into the start of the day on wednesday. we'll have some scattered light showers adding on to the rainfallles for the month of march, which so far has turned out to be very beneficial for us and the sierra. there has been some spots in the sierra measuring over two feet of snow over the weekend. another foot will be possible between now and the next storm system moving in. that subtropical moisture still streaming into the bay area and another storm system moving in on wednesday and then a rainy pattern as we go into thursday and friday. possibly into the weekend, as well. and the seven-day rain outlook shows that we will have the potential of anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 inches for parts of the

peninsula, as well as the east bay and the south bay. where you could see the shades of red. there could be over 2.5 additional inches of rain and just keep in mind over the weekend and some of the mountains like santa cruz mountains we had ten inches of rain and in the valley, the valley floor we had about 3 inches of rain. so, looking pretty good over the next seven days. let's get an update on how the roads are moving now as we check in with mike. how is it looking out there? >> not so bad considering all that rain that you talked about, kari. also the snow in the sierra. they reopened i-80 and had to close it overnight. not a major concern, still slick roadway, though. this is the san mateo bridge as we show you the rest of the bay, showing you that slow westbound in your commute direction and 80 on the east bay side. this crash over here that is just the onramp to get on to for westbound 580. not affecting the freeway but affect your onramp for a little

=am/rada= our live satelte radar - ows the heiest rain is right now at 6:30 a microclimate weather alert. our live satellite radar showing the heaviest rain is on its way out of the bay area, but you still see a lot of that green hanging off the coast, a possibility of showers and maybe even thunderstorms remains. >> that is true. >> good morning, thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. we'll kick things off with meteorologist kari hall. kari, still some water left in that sponge. >> some rain rolling through as we go into the next several hours, even though much of the bay area takes a break this morning and you get a chance to get out there on the roadways before that rain ramps up, once again. tracking some rain moving across parts of the santa cruz mountains and looks to be some

pockets of heavy rain in there and we will see this off and on as we go through the next several hours. even the potential for some thunderstorms as we go through the day. so, now as you head out, it's 47 degrees in the north bay. while 50s else where and we will continue to see those temperatures staying on the cool side today and scattered rain and storms. i'll have another update of what to expect through the rest of the week with more soggy weather, but let's get an update on the north bay now from mike. >> we'll take a look. camera here in san rafael and gray and wet roadways but not the rain and not a big backup. this is a gentle build for this monday as we look at your map. another camera. we have a less gentle build west 92. see traffic slam down from the hayward side across that flat section although it continues to move, we just have the volume which is a concern now. as we look at your map now, the volume off of 880 is a concern. the bay bridge moves well, but the metering lights are on and slowing out of the caldecott stall still outside now and

slowing into it from arinda. wet roadways wherever we register green. the south bay has your gentle build 101, 87 and 85. but over here we also have a closure for our off ramp. this is 880 over at the alameda off ramp. some flooding out there and, bob, can you bring us good news for folks heading towards university. >> absolutely. good morning, i can, mike. as you can see most of that flooding has subsided. chp and cal trans out here. yes, officer, getting ready to open. chp right there telling us right now they're going to start picking up the cones and reopening up this northbound 880 meada off ramp here in san jose. you can see the rain over there drain and that was clogged. a pump out here overnight trying to get this water to come down. we have been talking about this all morning long, mike. this has really been the worst that we've seen here in the south bay, which is good news. this is not a huge off ramp. and it hasn't been causing any

problems. i did speak with the officer earlier. i said, hey, what has been the biggest problem overnight. just coming onshift and he said his buddies said it was solo spinout. people are speeding and not watching these speeds out here on the roads when the roads are wet. so, if you are going to be heading into work this morning, we have this break that kari is talking about. you want to watch your speeds out there because it is wet. the roads are wet in spite of the fact that it's not raining at this particular point in time. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> the road's reopening. stay safe. still on edge right now in pacifica. waves as high as 0 feet expected to slam an already crumbling coastline. >> stephanie chuang is live in pacifica where work to fix that damaging sea wall and more work tomorrow. >> that's right. a couple days worth of work to start, kris and sam.

we're here at beach boulevard where you can see that sea wall that a hole in the ground there. damage from the earlier storms from january. now, look at the waves and it is light out enough for you to see they are pretty powerful. those waves as you mentioned up to 20 feet in some places and waves that caused damage to the pacifica pier. repairs expected to cost roughly $350,000. the weekend storms into the morning brought atwo inches of rain and we could get another 0.25. none at the sea wall but pacifica city leaders say no time to waste. >> it's not safe any more. and if we wait and there is some catastrophic storm or an earthquake or some other event, that building could end up on the beach below. >> now, the city is set to begin putting up fencing today and

begin demolishing those apartments tomorrow. a building that was red tagged when the 2010 el nino storm hit. money the city hopes to get reimbursed by the property owner who filed for bacraeps protection. they will have to deal ri says could hit 40 miles per hour along the coast and this high surf advisory in effect until tomorrow morning at 10:00. >> thank you very much, steph. the latest update from sfo should be encouraging, if you are traveling by air this morning. over the weekend, some arriving flights were delayed more than two hours. other flights were canceled outright. we did just get off the phone with a spokesman and any reports of lengthy delays are a product of the aa not updating alerts from yesterday's weather-related issues. sjc and oakland not reporting any issues this morning. see those updates are so important and that's why you

should get our npc bay area app. that is updated constantly including with the forecast and that way you can track the weather any time of day. just click on the weather tab where you can see the radar and sign up for alerts in your area. happening today the u.s. olympic committee discussing the zika virus. >> that's right. a lot of concerns of the spread of the virus as the world gets ready for the summer olympics in rio. the u.s. olympic committee has formed an advisory group. the world health organization declared zika an international public health emergency just last month. rio organizers say that august is brazil's cool season, so there will be fewer mosquitos. meanwhile, the fight against the zika virus continues. we are expecting the latest information about the spread of the virus today. uc san francisco is hosting a discussion on the risk. experts will also highlight which regions of the world are most in danger.

also several confirmed cases of the virus here in the bay area. a pregnant woman in napa contracted the zika virus while traveling to central america. it is not spreading, although more people are getting it. health official os say she's not showing any symptoms of the infection any more. kris, two bay area companies in pleasanton and emoryville are working on tests to detect zika in the blood supply. "san jose mercury news" is allowing the companies to fast track development of their testing. blood bank experts say a few cases in brazil where the virus was transmitted through donated blood. five million americans rely on blood traps fusions each year. bomb squad defused a sticky situation in the north bay. firefighters were called out at noon in novato and a volatile compound which can explode when it crystalizes. there was dried acid discovered on a container and that could have blown up. so, a bomb squad removed the material and then safely

detonated it off site. now to chemicals. green peace believing that lives could be at risk across california due to the producing, storing and transporting of chlorine gas. according to the "conra costa times" finding that some chlorine pipelines may be susceptible to rupturing or failing. there are eight chlorine facilities across the state of california, that includes one in pittsburg. the risks are due to be a little lower. deadly crash in san jose. we can tell you a man is now behind bars charged with hit and run. police arrested xavier friday afternoon after he fled the scene of this crash, which happened at camden and lee avenues about 3:00 friday morning. investigators say a truck and an suv collided scattering debris along both roadways because of that huge impact. the truck driver was pronounced dead just after police arrived. back to our microclimate weather alert this morning as we

take a live look at the bay bridge. and the brunt of this morning's storm now on its way out, but we are by no means out of the clear yet. we'll get a full check of your timeline right now with kari hall. i see deeper colors in the radar behind you, kari. >> we see this activity ramping up, again. right now heavy rain approaching saratoga and moving through sunny vale. as we go into the next several hours we will see more of this moving through and i do expect the rain to make it into san jose at 6:54 which is in about 20 minutes and continue off towards the north and east. else where we're starting to see scattered showers moving through and the bigger look at the storm system. we have heavy snow coming down in the sierra. some heavy rain in the central valley and then for the bay area a little bit more scattered and the storm system is not over. so, as we go through the rest of the day, this last blast of rain moving through with the potential of some windy and cooler conditions and some storms still lingering into this afternoon. the next round of rain moves in on wednesday with some breezy

winds that lingers into thursday, as well. so, i'll detail all of that coming up in about ten minutes. let's get an update on the morning commute now from mike. >> kari, show folks first of all the volume of traffic and now starting to show a slow down. north 101 at 680 and we expect this and see how wet the roadways are and consider it slick in many parts of the bay. we look at the map. the update. bob was over there. the off ramp at alameda. that off ramp and the onramp is still closed and clear more water there. that will affect folks getting on right there. and there's your northbound slowing. the green highlighting in patches around the bay is where you'll have more significant water on the roadways. keep that in mind. patches like the east bay over here. concord, lafayette, and west 24 does slow and we have a stalled vehicle that was inside the left for the caldecott for a while and it has cleared and only blocking one lane and over towards the oakland side. the bay bridge metering lights

>> we've reported this in the past. the airline was going to do this, but it's actually happening now. jetblue is taking applications for people who have no experience with airplanes offering to train them all the way from ground school to first officer. most european airlines do it this way. american-based airlines tend to take former military pilots or people who have paid to train on their own. either way, you end up with a fully qualified pilot, but two big advantages to training people from the get go. one, you train them your way. no chance to learn any bad habits. secondly, you get pilots from a diverse crosssection of america. people who would otherwise not have had the opportunity. wall street looking over good news about the american economy and jobs. on friday, the labor department said nearly a quarter million jobs were added to the economy last month. unemployment rate below 5%. both the dow and the nasdaq are mildly lower today but doing well. have some news from the world of roller coasters this

morning, also your baby is about to wake up. any time we can show bob redell on a roller coaster. six flags says it will add virtual reality to some of its roller coaster rides. you can wear goggles while riding the thing. what exactly you would see is not entirely clear because the irony is sometimes when people show you virtual reality, they have you sit down in the chair and show you a roller coaster. so, what you would actually think on a roller coaster, i have no idea. >> my eyes are usually closed. >> didn't see anything anyway. >> but virtual reality is supposed to mimic the real thing. >> it's a mystery to me, but coming in the next couple of months. >> all right. well, rain in the bay area real thing. it's snow in the sierra is coming down right now. >> brian hickey joining us live at blue canyon. lots of snow coming down. looks like it's maybe let up a little bit when we saw you a second ago, it was pouring.

>> it is still coming down. you just can't see it now that we have daylight. you can see behind me here interstate 80 the traffic coming westbound right now. a lot of cars getting over the sierra for the first time after they were stuck last night. interstate 80 was sthut down an they got it reopen about 4:00. a slushy, slippery mess. we have a driver who just spun out and he's waiting for a tow truck to come and help him get going, again. under snowy conditions. only at 5,000 feet and i drove through here on friday after a wonderful day of skiing in the sier sierra. now we have 18 inches of snow here at 5,000 feet. this all came down last night am to this morning. and it continues to snow here. looking at some of the web cameras up around the ski resorts. some of them looking like they have two feet of snow at the base. and, again, those were tables

that were yesterday. so, big snow falling overnight here in the sierra. it keeps coming down. if you're heading up get ready for winter driving conditions but one of the deepest powder days of the season so far on a monday. >> a couple sick calls. i can hear them already. brian hickey at blue canyon. now, he's talking about using chains. the number one complaint overnight was solo spinouts. we know that the roads are saturated. >> the are still wet and you run the risk of hydroplaning. we'll check in with mike in just a bit. this sloppy morning commute. even though for most of us the rain has let up and a live look at the golden gate bridge and cloudy skies overhead and the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of is the screen. come on over and take a look. you can see lots more rain as we go the week. and a look now at some of the storm os that i have been highlighting moving across the santa cruz mountains and moving also through sunnyvale. we will see more of these showers kind of off and on throughout the morning. we've seen rainfall rates coming

down. in some, at about 0.25 per hour looking at what's happening there in saratoga and trying to get an idea of the rain coming down. some spots with some light rain and then as we take a larger view of the storm system, it's continuing to spin and will rotate more energy around the bay area. meaning more rain and the potential of some thunderstorms as well. the rain timeline shows that we'll start to see this activity ramping up for san francisco and the peninsula and right at about 9:00 now. that's when many of the commuters are getting out there on the roadways. and then it moves into the east bay, as well as the south bay by 11:00 as you head out for lunch, you may catch a little bit of a break, but some scattered showers and storms. moving through even during the evening commute. but it will be very hit or miss and not everyone will see that rain. now, the wednesday gusts. take a look at the wind forecast. at 6:00 this evening at half moon bay. winds sustained at 43 miles per hour and there will be some higher gusts inland when winds

at 25 to 30 miles an hour. staying windy throughout the day. once again a chance of thunderstorms continues. then activity tapers off tonight and temperatures drop and it will be chilly and then more scattered showers moving in late tomorrow night, which will linger into wednesday and possibly into thursday, as well. so, kind of a wet pattern setting up as we go into the next several days. also this high surf advisory continues with waves up to 20 feet today and also some rip currents. we'll keep you up to date on that. let's an update on the morning commute now from mike. >> kari, looking towards the san mateo bridge. some damp roadways and we're watching for slick conditions. so far things have been much calmer than overnight when we had a lot of solo spinouts. 92 across from the flat section and look at your map where we have slowering registering and take you back towards the north bay. and those areas show a pretty smooth drive. over here we did have a big

pothole reported for 242 just before you got to 68 oand top of the through concord. one lane closed for a short period of time. i don't know if that is a permanent fix or do it later on. meantime, the san mateo bridge and we showed you the slowing and the tri-valley and disabled vehicle at stone ridge. that is a tough spot but a problem for that dublin interchange. flowing well through sunol and the green highlighted, wetter roads than you have anywhere farther south and that is better news as you head down towards fremont. there is the build for the commute. the rest of the south bay and northbound route starting to kick in. we have a couple cameras out here. live one 101 at 680 shows you volume of traffic and slick conditions. another one out there along with my good friend. bob, what do you have? >> yes, i'm bob redell and here in the south bay. tell you how this overnight wet weather is affecting the morning commute. that story coming up. i'm stephanie chuang live in pacifica. here where previous storms

welcome back. keep you on top of the weather that you're headed into. before we hand you off to "today" show. >> bob redell live in san jose. what is the latest? >> well, good morning to you, sam and kris. i tell you this break in the weather, the timing couldn't be better because we're not seeing the rain. we're here at the alameda off ramp from northbound 880 in san jose, which just reopened in the past half hour. you could see it wassed for quite some time overnight. show you some pictures. this is san mateo county highway 92 and both lanes that were shut down just east of highway 35 and those lanes have been reopened after a tree came down

overnight. we're just showing these little snippets of how the weather affected the commute. we spoke with the chp and a lot of solo spinouts overnight which is an indication that some people are not minding your speed. you want to slow down. even though it's not raining right now, the roads are wet and just watch your speed. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> i'm stephanie chuang live in pacifica. the wind has been consistently active all morning. crews will be where they begin these repairs today. repairs, again, starting today. the waves could hit up to 20 feet in some places and so far the storms have not caused significant damage here. and also already in need of repairs. together expected to cost the city roughly $350,000. the city is also said tabegin taputting up fencing today and demolishing the apartments tomorrow. the demolition set to cost the city $200,000. money the city hopes will be
