firefight others to the hospital. it happens hours ago and what they heard as the neighborhood went up in flames. very good wednesday morning to you. thanks for joining us. >> we start out with the forecast. in for kerri this morning and slightly wet start, about to ramp up, right? >> yes. still showers out there this morning in san francisco. 53 degrees, low clouds there and rain spreading from san francisco to the east bay commute and now down to south bay reaching san jose. showers every morning and at lunchtime showers begin to lift and north bay temperatures close to 60 and 67 degrees later on today around san jose. >> the camera where we see traffic still and under that light you so the glow and sheen of the slick roadway passing over here as well.

we have had the rain pretty much touch all over the bay area and there will be slicker conditions. keep that in mind. that person was out of the car waving for help but at least they're out and walking around. chp heading over there. now, the roadway has reopened. the ace train did make it through the area and better news for the commute as well. for now, you have the breaking news, explosion. >> believe been following it all morning, update natural gas explosion near seattle that sent nine firefight others to the hospital. a live picture as they are still tamping down some of the aftermath of that explosion happening at a suburb and we're told the injuries are minor, cuts and bruises. people living near there heard a loud boom and then saw flames. still an active presence in the seattle suburb. we will stay on top of this

story and bring you updates as soon as we have them in the newsroom. the h train already running monday night since monday night's derailment in fremont making its way to the south bay. >> stephanie on that train speaking to passengers this morning. you passed the very spot where the train derailed 36 hours ago. >> reporter: yeah. that's right. i can tell you, that did go very slow. the train was run vertigo slowly. the ace spokesperson said 10, 15 miles an hour. that didn't make sense in terms of what we were seeing, seeing a couple of areas of lit up spots where work crews were focusing. you can see the train is pretty empty, pretty light although i'm told during rainy days it does stack up to be like this. skip bedo here getting off at santa clara, did you get the memo about the service and do you think that had something to do with it?

>> this morning i did, started getting online to see if they were on time. yesterday i rode to the bike station and train decision and turned around and went home. >> you said maybe the memo didn't get out to people that service is back on? >> that's correct. if you don't use the internet to look and see if it's on time you might not know that. all the news was that it was going to be late. not running today. >> reporter: thank you so much. you can see it's pretty empty if you want a spot, you will get one. even though the canyon opened 9:00 last night, there are work crews we saw this morning and union pacific which owns those tracks will be having crews there all day and running these trains slower than usual and putting a rail in spekcspection vehicled to make sure all tracks are ready to go. you can expect some delays. we are keeping track on this

story. we are headed now to the great america stop and santa clara and san jose where it stops. this is the first train and everything seems to be going smoothly and the people we spoke with so far they they're not nervous at all. stephanie chuang. >> thank you. for the 200 passengers on the train when it went off the rails. the shock of that derailment is still sinking in. doug was two cars behind the lead car. he and others sprang into action despite the fact the train was unstable. his mind keeps going back to a prayerful protection he made moments before boarding. >> i believe we had angelic help last night. all the people injured, too, could have been much worse. >> doug nelson happens to be a medical emergency volunteer at his san jose job and his skills definitely came in handy.

road. firefighters able to knock-down the flames in less than an hour and three units damaged and luckily no one was hurt. in berkeley last month there were four sexual assaults against women in the city and so far no arrests. police believe this man attacked the women on the south side of the campus. police updated the city council on their investigation last night. criminal profilers on the case and evidence analyzed. >> i'm terribly alarmed by this person's boldness. he has to know we're looking for him and have video of him and yet offenses continue. that is somebody we're very interested in catching. >> berkeley police say they are doing outreach to try to raise awareness about these sexual assau assaults. we take a live look outside. the transamerica pyramid in san francisco this morning. >> amidst patchy fog, as rob

a school bus overturned on its side. we don't know the extent of injuries or children on that bus, traffic being re-routed in that area. we'll continue to keep tabs right now. looks like emergency personnel on the scene. i don't see any ambulances, perhaps the good news on its way to pick up children. slick conditions out there. we don't know the cause of the crash so far. once again, the extent of injuries so far. >> it helped there were no kids injured. 6:14 right now. an ex marine suspected of sho shooting and idaho pastor arr t arrested far away at the white house in d.c. secret service arrested kyle odom late last night. they said odom was throwing several items over the white house fence, among the items a manifesto mentioning several u.s. house members and senators and the government by name. and he shot the pastor six times and that pastor survived.

the rain line to the north, mid-60s and low 60s in san francisco and all day rain in the north bay and santa rosa high, mid-60s in pleasanton and livermore. north of san francisco, watch these rain rates ratchet up. thursday and friday, a lot of rain and by thursday it calms down. especially sunday, heavier rain comes in. we add all this up. check out the rain totals the next seven days, look out for localized flooding, 3-5 inches of rain expected next week. right now, still seeing light rain for that morning commute. >> that's helping the water shortage but not morning commute. i have to be honest, not so bad. san rafael and looks bad. look at the volume of traffic and speeds very manageable right

the hospital. they said they heard an extremely large boom and then saw the flames. firefighters able to put the flames out. we still don't know if any was inside the building at the time. since 4:30 this morning, we will bring you available updates. >> things are back on track this morning. the first h train to run since monday's derailment just reached its final stop in san jose. stephanie chuang was on that train for most of the ride this morning. >> reporter: actually, the train is at the last stop, san jose, so all the passengers have left. the train was light all morning long because of the rain and also riders didn't know the service was back on. we are at livermore and the canon area where last night's derailment was happening and the train going slower at 10 miles an hour before the tunnel.

there may be delays this morning and eastbound for the evening commute. union pacific crews are working the track this morning and an a spokesperson tells us union pacific will be running a rail inspection vehicle ahead of all four morning trains to make sure it's okay and probably go to sunol and back to fremont. one long time come mutter sa-- said he rode on the h train. >> it can be a little dangerous but not too often. i think they need to clear the hillsides better where there's potential slide activity. >> union pacific is leading the investigation and said they have not had this before. inspectors did take a look at that stretch of the tracks where the derailment happened.

and dublin at 50 degrees, we have showers moving through around the livermore valley this morning in san jose, scattered light rain in the north bay. we think the rain line will lift off to the north as we head to the afternoon. enough to wet the ground at times and we will see higher totals maybe approaching a quarter inch or so. temperatures, 40s and 50s outside. we head towards noon, temperatures in low 60s. mid to upper 60s as things temporarily dry out as the next big event comes in tomorrow morning. a full look at incoming storms in the next 10 minutes. first, we show you the bay bridge toll plaza. water on the lens and the lighter traffic in the lanes s the left. keep that in mind for the traffic pattern. we don't see anything alarming about the commute, it is moving.

bay area. you can see from san francisco into the tri-valley where most widespread showers are, san jose a few hit and miss. and towards the afternoon, we should see most lift off towards the north bay, mostly cloudy y skies through the day today. yes, the chances of showers actually on the decrease by the time we head towards the evening commute. highs today, mid to upper 60s. the showers will linger throughout the day and tri-valley, highs in mid-60s. north bay picks up in the morning tomorrow and south bay misses out thursday and everybody gets into it for thursday night into friday morning, very heavy rain comes in and the pattern that sets up the next few days will keep the heavy rain going throughout the north bay. watch out for localized flooding late thursday to friday. see the rain in the tri-valley.

another strong storm coming in sunday. we add up all this rain between now and monday, you're looking at 5 inches of rain in the w wettest spots in the north bay. 2-3 inches of rain in san francisco, these numbers alone would be the monthly average. we will see month's worth of rain coming down in the next seven days. by comparison, not so bad. we have mist and drizzle and slicker roadways, doesn't complicate things. and mavs and warriors play tonight and crowds about 7:00 on the freeways. south to hayward and 92. 680 southbound still slower than you might expect on a wednesday. we will likely have more folks from the h train driving this

regular riders said probably due to rain and commuters probably didn't hear service was back on this morning. they went past where it derailed monday night and it went much more slowly. for commuters you may have to set the delays. union pacific crews are working the tracks this morning and a spokesperson tells us union pacific will be running a rail inspection vehicle ahead to make sure all tracks are fine. any who left belongings monday night has to go to stockton to pick them up. stephanie chuang, today in the bay. good morning. i'm bob redell live outside san jose police headquarters, offenses still looking for two armed masked men who shot a c convenience store clerk. it happened on locus street not far from the 287 interchange, around 7:00, these two men went
