it's thursday, march 10th. coming up on "early today." breaking overnight, five people are dead and at least two gunmen are out there. police are scrambling and asking the public for help. historic rain and flooding continues to wreak havoc while a new storm is brewing out west. democrats square off in miami, making big promises before the next primary. and an isis operator tells of the chemical weapons plans. thousands pay their last respects to former first lady nancy reagan, as her daughter opens up. and then to the shots of the day. dead, three others injured and at least two gunmen are out there, after a mass shooting in wilkensburg, pennsylvania. four of the victims, three females and one male, died at the scene. a fourth female was pronounced dead at the hospital. police say there were multiple gunmen. >> there's ballistic evidence that leads us to believe there's at least two people that discharged weapons into a backyard party or cookout of some sort. it looks like they were ere fleeing towards the back door of the residence when the second gunman fired from the side of the yard and they all seemed to get caught on the back porch. >> they haven't said what the motive was and are asking the public for any information on the shooters. at least three deaths are being blamed on a series of storms that have been battering the gulf coast and the south. 25 million people could get flooded and thousands have

already been evacuated. some of the worst flooding is in louisiana. where the governor declared a state of emergency. people are still trying to fly through the roads. a section of interstate 20 was shut down after floodwaters pushed two semis into a median and other off a road. and here is a drone video showing us how widespread the flooding is and what residents are having to go through. >> we're dealing with the potential of up to 25 inches of rain when all is said and done. last year's red river flood was different animal than this. frankly, no one has ever experienced that. when you're dealing with this much rain, it's serious. >> meanwhile, in east texas, major flooding has closed all road in rust county. meteorologist bill karins is here. this has been an historic flooding. >> and bad and if not worse than we thought it would be.

in northern louisiana, 12 to 16" of rainfall with this storm. pretty incredible stuff near the shrevport area. all of that water now has to go downstream. it would only get worse. we still have all of these ars in red under flash flood warning, about 4 million people and they've been under a flood emergency in northern louisiana for a while now. 23 million are in watches. an additional three to six easily. some area could pick up another foot of rain especially down toward the new orleans area. you saw how bad the pictures were. now thunderstorms are training and heading up over those same spots. we're not going to be watching it get any better for probably two or three days. all that water has to make its way down to the gulf of mexico through the river. >> i can't imagine having to deal with all that flooding. >> lot of water. >> and cleanup. that's tough. hillary clinton and bernie

sanders faced off last night for their fourth one on one debate and first since sanders' upset victory in michigan. the debate centered on immigration and for the first time clinton broke with the obama administration on the issue, vowing she wouldn't deport undocumented immigrants in thes who haven't committed crimes. sanders agreed with her. >> i do not have the same policy as the current administration does. i will not deport children. i would not deport children. i do not want to deport family members either. but of the undocumented people living in our country, i do not want to see them deported. i want to see them on a path to citizenship. >> i happen to agree with president obama on many, many issues. i think he's done a great job as president of the united states. he's wrong on this issue of deportation. i disagree with him on that. so, to answer your question, no, i will not deport children from the united states of america. >> after the debate, clinton headed to another event in miami

got a big celebrity endorsement, actress, eva longoria. >> we saw two candidates on the stage tonight but there really is for me, and for our community, only one candidate who is speaking to us. please help me welcome the future president of the united states, hillary clinton. >> clinton, no doubt, helps longoria's support will help her with latinos on tuesday. and right now polls show her leading in the sunshine state. in ohio there are 160 delegates up for grabs. she has a smaller advantage there, with only nine points. the polls had her ahead and sanders ended up winning there. for the republicans, 66 delegates are on the line. kasich is trailing trump by six points. in marco rubio's state of florida, trump is also ahead by

23 points. rubio's poll numbers have been tanking. last night, he said he regretted making personal attacks against trump. >> in terms of things that have to do with personal stuff, at the end of the day it's not something i'm entirely proud of. my kids were embarrassed by it. a and, you know, if i had to do it again, i wouldn't. >> meanwhile, former candidate jeb bush is meeting with rubio, cruz and kasich, but not trump. he hasn't said whether or not he will endorse anyone before the primaries tuesday. special ops in iraq has given them key information about operations. this detainee used to work for saddam hussein. isis has already used artillery loaded with chlorine and mustard powder. former u.s. air force mechanic from new jersey is guilty of trying to join isis.

after he travelled to turkey, he tried to join the fight for jihad. he faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced in september. and former first lady, nancy reagan, will lie in repose at the reagan library for a second day. a private funeral service is scheduled for tomorrow. first lady, michelle obama, former president george w. bush, former first ladies laura bush and rosalynn carter were just some of those who showed up. secret service members will serve as pall bearers. patty davis spoke to maria shriver and her mother. >> i feel very complete in my relationship with her. and i think that whatever aloneness i might feel, there is that, and then that's very comforting.

>> that exclusive interview airs later on "today." firefighters say a massive explosion that leveled several buildings in seattle yesterday morning may have been caused by a gas leak. nbc's gabi schwartz has the details. >> dispatch. mayday, mayday, mayday! >> reporter: a frantic call over the emergency radio after a catastrophic blast. >> i have firefighters missing. >> reporter: followed by an incredible response. >> all members are accounted for. >> reporter:. >> i do have injured firefighters from flying debris. >> reporter: all told, nine firefighters injured but all of them alive. minutes earlier, the firefighters had been searching for a gas leak near three businesses, now totally obliterated from a blast that sent debris and a shock wave throughout the neighborhood. >> i woke up to a huge boom. >> i looked out the window and my neighborhood exploded. >> reporter: someone called in at 1:00 am, reporting smelling

natural gas. it registered as an earthquake, it was so powerful. the blast caught on this store surveillance video. >> we know, as firefighters, this is a very dangerous job. >> reporter: each year natural gas explosions wreak havoc. in 2014, another explosion in harlem killed eight and injured more than 70. and in 2010, eight were killed and entire blocks leveled in a pipeline explosion that rocked san bruno, california. today in greenwood, the neighborhood coffee shop, convenience store run recognizable in the rubble. but the entire community, even children in the playground are giving thanks that every firefighter survived. >> investigators say they don't know what caused the explosion, but it did cost $3 million in damages. nbc meteorologist bill karins is back with more on our weather. >> west coast storm.

louisiana, obviously, was horrible. we still have a bad going tragedy there. incredible winds last night, coastal areas of the northwest. the rain is starting to set up into northern california. it will be with us the next couple of days. as far as the rainfall totals, the next three days, we are going to see the blue and pink. that's a possibility of one to two inches along the coastal areas. the heaviest rains from crescent city southwards into the san francisco bay area, and the mountains could pick upwards of 6" of rain the next few days. this is a moist flow coming in. could see as much as two inches of rain. more beneficial march rain for northern california. l.a., we're not going to get it down to you. 6 today. phoenix, 87. windy and rath of san francisco later today and into tomorrow.

leading the news today, in the "chicago tribune," pro gun florida woman accidentally shot by 4-year-old son. just hours after she bragged on facebook that her 4-year-old son gets jacked up to target shoot, that same kid found her .44 caliber gun on the floor of her pickup truck and shot her in the back while she was driving. she's in stable condition. on nbcnews.com, raw milk sickens law makers. west virginia recently passed a law, allowing people to drink raw, unpasturized milk. and to celebrate, they toast a glass. and it may be coincidence, but several of them got sick. looking worse for the wear.
