north bay and marin county moderate rain coming on in and it's especially those areas that will see the chance for a flash flood type conditions with runoff there into the creeks and streams. this from now until 6:00 sunday evening and the rain will start in the north bay and more or less stall out over the north bay. as we head towards noon and 3:00 today, that's the problem. that's where we'll see a lot of rain adding up to today. south bay, it will take a little longer as the rain moves south and give you the full timeline of the storm coming up in ten minutes. for a check of your morning commute, here's mike. >> live traffic cameras right now looking just fine. this is dublin, 580. this is looking fine, as well. we're looking towards the maps where we'll see the tiniest bit of slowing out of the altamont. the east trains are running and everything should be back to normal through the tri-valley. getting towards the bay bridge, no problem. on the san francisco side, a pot hole repair work southbound 101

at cesar chavez. the search right now on in san jose for a suspect that attacked a man with a baseball bat. >> "today in the bay" kris sanchez following the story for us in the newsroom. kind of unheard of in this neighborhood. >> you don't hear this sort of thing and certainly not while the victim was doing something most of us do every day which was unpacking groceries from his car. he was attacked. the 61-year-old man while he was in his own driveway, as you said. that masked man approached him with a baseball bat out of the darkness and started swinging. he w it was about 8:20 tuesday night when the attacker came out of the blue. he believes the man was looking to steal his car. he tried to protect himself and backed up yelling until the attacker took off and his family came outside and called 911. >> i'm bain backing away like t

and he's trying to hit me and i'm protecting myself. he hit me once, twice. then i'm backing away. >> more and more louder noise and him yelling. i remember him saying, what are you doing? what are you doing? >> now, san jose police searched for the suspect and then could not find him. he is speaking out to warn his neighbors and to ask them to consider what he's considering which is installing security cameras. whether or not there's surveillance video on the street that is helping police, we don't know yet. police will continue investigating this case. in the meantime it, if you find yourself in the same position out in your driveway in the darkness, make sure that you call out to one of your family members. >> someone call 911 immediately. thank you, kris. 4:33 right now and a developing story. five people died and three more injured after a shooting during a backyard party in pennsylvania. that shooting happened a little

before midnight eastern time and that is eight miles or so east of pittsburgh. the shooters fired from different angles and continued firing as the victims were running and trying to escape that house. the gunman got away and this morning still on the loose. neighbors in one south bay apartment complex plan to take safety into their own hands after a recent sexual assault. san jose police still looking for the man who attacked a woman inside her home in february. a few days after that, police believe the same man broke into another woman's apartment. in that case, the woman scared him off. tonight, neighbors will hold a community meeting. he is the head of one of the most prominent law schools in the country, but now he is in legal trouble over sexual harassment accusations. former executive assistant said

that he hugged, kissed and touched her repeatedly when she complained to the school last year. administrators said that choudhry admitted it. the assist said that is not enough and now suing the dean and the law school. the school recently announced, "that suuit choudrhy will take a leave of absence." police now identify him as 45-year-old byron roses of san jose. investigators say he stabbed his estranged wife and her male friend at third and martha street. officers fired at roses when they say that he ignored orders to drop the knife. his wife has now been released from the hospital, the male victim, though, still in critical condition. the suspect was under a temporary restraining order to stay away from his wife. >> quite frightening there. let's check the forecast now with bob. rain already starting in the north bay? >> it may stay there for a

while. you can see the rain pretty heavy up around santa rosa and we'll be watching the russian river as we approach the start of the weekend and all that runoff starts to hit the creeks and streams and a few showers across the headlands right now and as we head through the morning commute, areas north of san francisco see the rain and san jose not so much. mild temperatures for most of the bay in the south bay and then by the evening commute, the rain continues to push to the south. 50s and 60s are starting. you might not need a jacket and let's get through the afternoon, temperatures in the upper 60s with a lot of rain north of san francisco coming up in ten minutes we'll show you some amazing rainfall totals expected out of this storm and another one to follow this weekend. now, for another check of your commute, here's mike. >> checking the san rafael camera and very calm for the traffic flow. very flow. southbound 101, easy. as rob pointed out, that rain is coming in from the sonoma county area and coming down towards san rafael area.

right now an investigative unit exclusive. the safety of the largest bay area development facing new questions this morning. >> calling in the radiation cleanup at hunter's point. anthony smith worked on that site for years and now speaking exclusively to the investigation unit. he claims the contractor overseeing the cleanup did not properly test soil samples. they altered computer data to pass off potentially contaminated dirt as clean. first concerns of radiation back in 2013. tetra tech won $300 million in cleanup contracts, but it has ignored our request to respond to repeated allegations about the work. >> hi, my name is vicky and i'm a reporter with nbc bay area and i can speak to the supervisor on site for tetra tech. >> that's me and i'm not allowed to talk to anybody. >> high blood pressure. very high.

>> that's right. they're on fire. >> been protected from the rain. >> and today we're seeing the rain mostly off in the north bay, not around oracle arena. for this morning, at least, breezy outside. here's a view from the east bay looking out to the warriors logo. the bay bridge there in the distance as you can see. we have temperatures around oakland in the 50s this morning but the south bay temperatures very fascinating. look at san jose to start the morning. 61 in san francisco and south winds bringing in some mild air and for the north bay right now, quite a bit of rain here. we'll take you into santa rosa and see the areas in yellow and orange and indicating heavy rain along highway 101. into marin county you're seeing showers and starting to see a few showers approaching san francisco and it will be san francisco northward that sees the best bet of rain for the morning, not so much around the south bay. a mild start to the day around san jose. probably going to have to wonder about a big storm because most of it is going to stay off into the north bay through about 4:00 this afternoon. so, for san jose, a few showers at time.

upper 60s, maybe close to 70 today. and rain developing into san francisco and highs in the low 60s and near 60 and a lot of rain throughout the day in santa rosa. and we'll see another round, especially for the south bay, heading towards tomorrow morning. those rain rates increase changing over to scattered showers as we go am to friday afternoon. a stormy pattern continues here. where two-day rain totals. look at that in the north bay. this is just through friday night. looking at two to three inches of rain there and half inch to an inch of rain from san jose into san francisco. a lot more widespread rain for tomorrow morning's commute and a brief break saturday for areas that don't include the north bay and then more rain coming in for sunday. so, the active pattern continues and we're looking at rain totals by the time we get into monday, now you're talking about two to five inches plus. locally, higher in those north bay hills which is the reason why we don't have to watch out for spot flooding between now and monday. now for a lookpá your morning

filings for unemployment and investors also eyeing the european central bank. widely expected to unveil the second round of economic stimulus in the last three months. the dow rising 36 points to 17,000 and the nasdaq adding 25 to 26.74. mcdonald's may expand its all-day breakfast menu. testing more items in oklahoma and north carolina and could roll them out nationwide in the coming months. currently mcdonald's all-day breakfast which boosted only offers a limited number of items. egg mcmuffins and hot cakes. saying adios to the most interesting man in the world. replacing 77-year-old jonathan goldsmith. since debuting the ads in 2007 they have seen their sales nearly triple. but it is a good sign, guys, that he had the job until he was 77. there is some hope for us.

>> not kidding. >> i'd like to step into that role, but i guess it's already taken, unfortunately. that sounds like a good job. happening today in sacramento, lawmakers voting on raising the smoking age to 21 years old. the state senate taking on a package of anti-smoking package laters today if the governor signs off. california would become the second state in the country to raise the smoking age to 21. the first one was hawaii. this week san francisco also did the same thing locally. that law will go into effect in june. not today. the demolition of a pacifica apartment on top of a crumbling cliff. 320 will now come down next friday. today's demolition was scrapped because of the expected storm. crews have been gutting the inside of that building, though, all week. the 20-unit building has been red tagged after the el nino storms of 2010. laura, frustrations over a crosswalk in berkeley this morning. some parents are calling on the city to do more after a fourth

grader was hit by a taxi in the middle of the crosswalk. that accident happened on clairmont avenue and clairmont crescent on tuesday night. the crosswalk is directly in front of john muir elementary. the young girl that was hit broke both of her legs. several parents are pressuring the city of berkeley to add more lights in that area. >> i would say every couple months somebody sails right past or screeches to a halt. it's unfortunate that, you know, a young girl has to be hit by a car. but if that is what gets the focus. that's great. >> adding more street lights has been a battle. the city says their past five requests for state grants to pay for it have all been denied. the city will try for the grant again next year while looking for other solutions in the interim. the warriors record run into history continuing after a decisive victory last night over the utah jazz. steph curry adding to a seemingly endless highlight reel. another half-court bank shot that goes down so smoothly. that ended the first half.

4:54 right now. i took a peek and ron already has his radar up. you're seeing activity in the north bay. >> locally heavy rain setting up around sonoma county and creep into marin county, too. right around santa rosa this morning. these areas of yellow and at time some orange showing up indicating downpours and the types of downpours we'll see sustained over a long period of time and increase the risk of flooding concerns especially north of the golden gate for this morning and then expanding southward and between now and all the way through sunday, 6:00 p.m. so, this is a prolonged period of time where we could see localized flooding. notice not just for the north bay counties, but also down along the coast here and the creeks and streams that feed out of the santa cruz mountains into the central bay, as well.

fresh coat of red and white paint, the same color as the graffiti. an important b.a.r.t. etiquette. one seat per rider when the trains are crowded. the etiquette could become a rule and riders who break it could face hefty fines. now, if passed riders who take up more than one seat will be fined $100 the first time. if you're caught, again, the fine goes up to $200. if you do it again after that, didn't learn your lesson, that fine will jump to $500. you're always getting up for the lady. >> chivalry, of course. it's not dead.
