oth right side. the car with the doors open you see the windows look shot out happening after 1:00 this morning. people reporting they heard g gunsho gunshots. you can see nearly a dozen evidence markers. police did not find a victim here. a man shot multiple times ended up on someone's porch for help and a woman 15 minutes later dropped off at a hospital, both suffered serious injuries and fighting for their lives. homicide investigators search for the shooter or shooters and working the case still. it's very busy for berkeley police. this is the second shooting in less than 24 hours. they went door-to-door searching for a gunman shot off university avenue in the morning. the condition of the victim unknown and still no arrests made for this double shooting as well. no big search of the gunman in

the contest might already be determined by that point. you can go to get all the results and check out what candidates are saying as this race moves forward. 5:07, to breaking news, following overnight to nigeria, where a suicide bomb attack killed at least 22 worshippers during dawn prayers at a mosque. one bomber blew himself inside and the second waited outside as survivors tried to escape. it happened in an area controlled by boca hko haram. no group has officially claimed responsibility for that attack. a pedestrian struck and killed southbound on las gots to. -- los gatos, they walked on the freeway and they closed the off-ramp for two hours. today marks four years since sierra lamar disappeared.

>> police believe se rare lamar is dead. >> live in morgan hill at the bus stop sierra was last seen. hard to believe it's been four years, bob. >> reporter: well, march 16th of 2012, laura and sam, four years ago today sierra lamar was supposed to catch a school bus at this intersection behind me. the 15-year-old high school teenager student never made it here. she disappeared at some point between here and her house, and was never seen again. for months you might recall volunteers mounted an intense search of the south county to find her remains. the santa clara sheriff's office does believe she was abducted and killed by torez. the grand jury has indicted him in her murder.

his trial is scheduled to start next month on april 5th. his attorney tried get the indictment thrown out the argument the grand jury was never instructed to consider an aiding and abetting rule that he was involved only in aiding and abetting. they said they were only challenging the instruction given to the grand jury. the judge denied that request. s as far as that remembering her in the bay area, it will be here. the ninth circuit court of appeals ruled yesterday the federal government cannot be held responsible for jay see dugard's abduction in 1991. she was held captive for 18

any with information is urged to contact police. when it comes to serving your city, one santa fe councilmember went far beyond the call of duty this week and helped take down a carjacking suspect off the st. >> councilman peralaz took him down and he is a former police officer and new protocol. when he heard a crash outside he went to look. a carjacking suspect was trying to flee the scene after being chased by the victim's two children who were in another car and that's when he sprung into action. >> the suspect was trying to take off. the two kids were yelling s saying, stop, he just stole my mom's car. >> the fire chief, robert sapien, also helping out and the pair together restrained the suspect until officers arrived. that suspect is accused of stealing a work van with a worker inside.

lamb is now facing three felony charges. a quarter after 5:00. a follow-up on a school mascot dividing an east bay community. this morning, students at san lorenzo high school say they officially no longer have the rebel guy as their school mascot. >> what symbol will represent the school and what will happen to the name. last night, the school board voted anonymously to ditch the rebel guy. he had been causing controversy for years and now the community has the task of figuring out what to do about the rebel name. >> the name rebel is directly tied into slavery, directly tied into rape and torture and hanging. >> i remember what it was like when it wasn't rebel guy and colonel red and i remember they ran the confederate flag up and down the football field. i remember seeing the confederate flag on letterman jackets. wow, this is 1994, why am i seeing this? >> school board officials say

ashley b.a.r.t. station. stephanie has been life at the scene and joins us with what she knows so far. what can you tell us? >> reporter: the concern is the shooter or shooters is still on the run, a primary focus or homicide investigators and officers who are still here. this is a mostly residential area. the other side is the san francisco institute of architecture. investigators are still here more than four hours later focused on that white car where windows are shot out and where they believe the two victims were sitting when this incident happened. there are markings to mark the bullet casings. police did not find the victims here. a man shot several times tried to get help on someone's porch and ended up at the hospital and a woman dropped off 15 minutes later is at the hospital and both are fighting for their lives. this is the second shooting in 24 hours. officers went door-to-door after

area. at 11:00 a.m. in the rose garden, 2 1/2 hours our time the president is planning to make this announcement. in an e-mail this morning he said it's his constitutional duty and he consulted legal experts, people inside and outside the government with political views. every single senator, remember, they promised to block this nominee and not give the person a hearing. the president said he looked for someone independent with extraordinary credentials, a master of law, someone who believes in a limited role for judges. that could be important for republicans who someone who is not an activist judge and understand these are not theoretical decisions, they have real impact on people. the short list includes a nominee from the d.c. appeals court, mary garland, the chief of that court and of interest to you, paul watford on the california appeals court. he would be only the third african-american, if confirmed to the u.s. supreme court, born and raised in orange county.

graffiti would cause terror. that message was found on a san leandro school district office and since been removed. officers arrested him after finding matching paint on his butt. a san francisco nightclub closes its doors to the public coming after a popular d.j. was stabbed to death outside that club. it happened in january in the cellar, and he is also an analyst for am. no one has been charged in his death. they have surrendered the liquor license and entertainment and still open for private events. there is a way to get college students automatically registered to vote, called the student voting act. two will introduce that legislation later today. if it is passed, students at state's public colleges and universities will automatically be registered to vote when they

>> the police assumed her to be dead. volunteers are getting ready to conduct another search this saturday. >> reporter: the search for the 15-year-old girl who disappeared on her way to this bus stop located at this intersection behind me there, sam and laura. this volunteer search will comprise of volunteers, family and friends, taking place at 9:15, we eastman canyon road at morning gan hill -- morgan hill. one of many that have taken place since she disappeared a couple blocks from her family's home. she disappeared somewhere between the dus stop and her house -- the bus stop and her house. she was 15 years old and a student at morgan hill high school. they mounted an intense search of the south county to find her remains. as you may recall. the santa clara sheriff's office does believe she was abducted

and killed by torres and the grand jury has indicted the morgan hillman in her murder and trial scheduled to start next month. thank you. sheriff laurie smith is laying out a new 13 step plan to make sweeping changes to santa clara's trouble jail system. according to the news, smith presented her recommendations to the public safety committee coming on the heels of a mentally ill inmate. the proposed changes are boo boosting access to medical care and the appointment of a civilian board. >> how much to get your car back after it's been towed in san francisco? typically about 500 bucks. that could be changing. one supervisor in san francisco is calling this tantamount to highway robbery especially for low income residents. while the city's transportation agency agreed to lower the t

74 degrees. tomorrow will be the walmart rmy of the week and 74 degrees on friday. in the peninsula, some upper 60s today. 70s tomorrow in san francisco. close to 70 degrees for thursday. we will see 70s elsewhere and a few more clouds in the mix on frid fridays. here's what's happening. the jet stream winding up over the weekend that brought us all the rain now that has shifted farther to the north and the rain to the pacific northwest as high pressure blocks the rain from moving to our area. we're looking at more sunshine, mild weather for the next few days, temperatures continuing to warm up, once again staying dry. heading to the weekend, this is what we can expect. high temperatures reaching 72 degrees in the peninsula and san francisco will be in the low 60s. a few more clouds on sunday and we will writibring it back down couple degrees, overall staying dry, our next chance of rain not until early monday morning.

no incidents here and san mateo bridge we end with the westbound commute picking up the volume just a tad. san francisco supervisors throwing support behind dog own owners. they are howling mad over a plan to reduce park access for their four legged friends. >> supervisors voted 10-1 at the national park service to limit dog access in all golden gate national recreational locations. including golden beach and lands end and one other. no action expected to be taken before may. you howling mad. look for changes on stay in gram. they will be test agnew algorithm. instead of seeing photos and videos in chronological order, instagram will please them in the order they think you most want to see them. similar to what facebook has done. no word on when that change will take place.

a compact for the homeless. promises 25 housine ining units available for the chronically homeless and brings together the housine ining association and a that assists women and children. san jose saying homeless will have a home by the end of the year in downtown san jose for housing for homeless and plan to turn the santa clara inn in alameda into another homeless hotel. there is a push in california to get college students automatically regist registered to vote. called the voting assembly act. a councilman from san francisco and oakland will co-introduce that legislation today. if passed, students at state colleges and universities will automatically be registered to vote when they sign up for their classes. two uc berkeley law students
